BEWARE. I feel sick to my stomach. I've had the most horrible experience with this company. As a gift for my sister I rented her a car using Upshift, at her request. It cost about $1,000 for 10 days. Unfortunately, instead of a $1,000 gift to my sister, I just discovered that I was charged about $7,000 in aggregate charges since then, across about $1,000 monthly charges. This is $6,000 more than what I expected. I called the owner of the company in disbelief and to request reimbursement for the $6,000 in monthly fees he's been charging me for services we have not used. He was not sympathetic and said that we were signed up for a subscription service. The cars are new, clean, awesome with a full tank of gas. On top of it they got delivered to your door which is amazing (no more painful quests to find hidden getaround cars). Upshift team is super friendly and responsive and always strive to help their customers with the requests. There are several full EV options including Tesla and Hyundai Ioniq in their fleet. Upshift has been great for my wife and me. We have found many things you can explore easily from the Bay Area if you have a car. The 4-day-a-month plan has really both enabled and encouraged us to get out and explore more. I was a bit hesitant about using this vs. Turo or similar at first. After using Upshift for a year+ I don't think I could go back to Turo. Having the car delivered, easy to work with support and a consistently reliable car is worth so much in preventing headaches. I've been using Upshift for 7 months now and still impressed by the quality of renting service they provide. As far as I live in San Francisco, I decided to not have a personal car because I don't use it on weekdays and I hate looking for parking in my area. Actually, Upshift fulfills all my needs. I make a request in advance (1-2 days) and get a car at any time I need. I really appreciate self-pick-up service at my location - I just leave my building, send a text message when I'm near the car and it gets unlocked and ready to drive me wherever I choose. There wasn't a situation when a car was unavailable - even during the first 3 months of membership when a car was not guaranteed on the holidays, I got it. Upshift is about Toyota Prius. I don't need to get used to a new type of car since I get the same one all the time. Moreover, the park of cars is constantly improving. Recently, I've got Prius of the 2019 year and was the lucky one driving it the first time. A couple more things I'm really happy about. The support service is great. Response time is about 5 minutes in working hours. They addressed all questions instantly via text message or chat on the website. The cleanliness and equipment of cars are perfect. I haven't noticed any defects. On the contrary, I had a phone holder and cables, wipes and a full tank of gas in all the cars I drove. It's not even necessary to refuel a car when returning it! You will be charged for the gas later based on market price with no additional fee. Isn't it great? However, there is still some field for improvement. Concierge hours when a car can be picked up by them are from 8 am to 8 pm. I wish Upshift extended the working hours and I would be able to drop a car off on the streets with the constraints starting from 7 am. Also, I'm eager to see Upshift in Los Angeles. It would help me to take the one-way trip on Prius and therefore I wouldn't use other renting companies at all. It would be spectacular! I'm absolutely happy being a member of Upshift. We've been Upshift customers for nearly 3 years and can't recommend them enough. It's a car service that's has THE BEST customer service, convenience and is so much more affordable than buying/ renting a car. When we first started with them, we thought it sounded too good to be true, but after all these years, I can attest Upshift is the real deal. The team here is doing awesome work. Some examples on convenience / customer service / affordability ... - you text them /online book a car and a new, clean Prius / RAV4 is dropped off to your front door -  talk about white glove service! And returns are just as easy. - when we got a flat tire (darn Bay Area roads!), they met us in 20 mins with a brand new car so we could go about our day (and they took care of staying behind fix the car). Was almost always able to get a car when I wanted and when they were out, Ezra and Ayako did everything they could to find an alternative solution. The service is really convenient in the city and the self-checkout feature allows you to drop the car off whenever and wherever you want on the street. Upshift is always available to give you advice on parking and other issues as well! The cars are all in great condition and have always been clean. The "as-is" toll and gas service is also a fantastic feature in the Bay Area and tolls can be a pain if you leave and come back onto the Peninsula. I don't think I ever had to go to a gas station and one tank easily gets you to wine country and back at least. read more

This is cool. It's competitively priced with Zipcar and the cheapest (10 year old prius) Getaround cars. Upshift will deliver you the new Prius anywhere in the delivery zone. I know that Audi does this as well - but their cars are quite expensive. Then, when you're done, you can just leave it anywhere in the same zone! In between, unlimited miles are allowed. They've made it super seamless and easy to do car rental. I usually use Getaround, but there's so many times when I need to pick up a car near my house and end it near work, so Getaround doesn't work. It's much more convenient to be able to drop off the Upshift car. We took Upshift up to Napa to go wine tasting. I loved not even having to *think* about filling up gas, much less bother finding a gas station! read more

7PM on a Friday night of Labor Day weekend, my girlfriend and I weigh on taking a last minute trip to the Los Angeles coast. The deciding factor - can we get a rental? After filtering through the usual overpriced, overcomplicated rental places and dreading the idea of having to leave the city to pick a car up, I stumbled on Upshift. The process was extremely simple; enter your phone number and exchange a few texts confirming trip logistics. Although their service hours are 8AM - 8PM, they still allowed me to confirm a rental for the next morning. AWESOME! Ezra, the Upshift concierge dropped the car off at 8AM as arranged, explained everything about the vehicle, did a walk around of vehicle damage and let me be on my way. The car was delivered clean and all fueled up. Driving it was a pleasure. Post trip pickup was a breeze, again Ezra picked the car up at my house at the arranged time and we wrapped up the transaction within 5 minutes. You don't even have to refuel the vehicle if you don't want to, they will do it at market rates and bill you afterwards. Found myself in San Francisco with an unplanned meeting in Palo Alto and had to quickly get from my event to a meeting without a car. Found Upshift out of the blue, and couldn't have been happier with the service. The best part of this service: 1) reliability: the car arrives on time, not once did we face an issue, and the car are always well maintained. 2) human touch: the messaging service helps a lot. expect prompt and courteous responses all the time. i dread calling those rental car companies and dealing with their staff. ezra has been exemplary and we had great experiences each time during the handover 3) priuses: while it would have been nice to have other models to rent, but these priuses are reliable and fuel efficient! After 17 years of renting cars on a regular basis (4 to 6 times year), I have finally found a rental agency I can rave about. Every car in their fleet is a Prius - fantastic gas mileage and environmentally friendlier (relatively). They drop off, putting a bike in the back seat to get back home after they drop off. And when you return, they come back on their bikes to pick it up. They refill the gas tanks themselves, charging your card the pump price (and not as much of a fillup because of the aforementioned gas mileage). They use Fastrack, so no need to prepay Golden Gate Bridge fares. Just mention which tolls you took and they'll bill that at the same time they bill the gas. I will absolutely contact them again next time I need to rent a car. read more
