I have lived all over the country over the past ten years, and never ONCE has a UPS deliverer EVER actually attempted to deliver a package by actually knocking or ringing the doorbell! At least not on the first attempt. I know this because due to my job I'm often home during the time when they claim they've delivered it. I also often have very loud doorbells, so even if I was in another room, or even the shower, I'd be able to hear it. And my doorbell has never been broken in these situations - I've always tested them immediately after (and this is in apartment buildings where you couldn't just knock, because it is just the door to the lobby or front gate). Sometimes if they've actually bothered to leave a delivery attempt notice (which now they rarely do), I can get them to actually deliver by first contacting support and then leaving a detailed (and yes, patronizing, but that's what it takes) note instructing them how you 1.) ring the doorbell 2.) wait for an answer and 3.) give me the package. On the first attempt they claim they don't have key access inside the gate to the apartment building (it's also a very small building, mind you, not one that would take me minutes to meander to the gate - the gate is like 10 feet from my door), which is a lie, because back when they actually made second attempts, instead of leaving it at the access point, they would open the gate once I reminded them that they do have key access. So ringing the the doorbell is the best practice and should be standard.
Now I guess after the first "attempt," they just leave it at an "access point," because they say they "assume if no one his home at the first attempt, they won't be home at the second." Well, it seems the whole time they already assume no one is home during business hours, and just leave attempt notices without actually attempting! I can't be the only one who's experienced this, right? How do they stay in business??
This whole UPS "access point" thing is ridiculous to begin with. UPS lies and says they make one attempt, but I was home, and they did not even ring the doorbell. Now, instead of making a second attempt, where I could call them out and tell them to actually do their job and ring my doorbell and attempt to deliver the package, they just send it straight to this "access point," First of all, this is on a very busy street with only street parking, so if I'm trying to get a large package, it's very difficult. Either I'll have to park far away and carry it a long way, or I'll have to keep circling and circling and fight with all the other cars for parking. Second, the woman working there took the opportunity for me coming in just to get my package (which should have been delivered to my house) to try and sell me things. I'm sure UPS promised her that taking on this job would get her more business, but I already didn't want to schlep out to get my package, which I ordered online specifically so it would be delivered to my home. So no, of course I'm not going to be in the mood to buy some random stuff, and it just makes me annoyed and less likely to shop there. I see their reviews are going down on google because of this access point thing. If I were them, I'd quit cooperating with UPS. UPS is hurting their business and everyone else's! We shouldn't be encouraging them to deliver packages to these "access points" instead of people's homes as the requested and paid for!
Calling them does nothing. I called UPS and was hung up on (sent back to the queue) because I gave them the tracking number and not the claim number or something, which I don't think I even had. When I told them that, they just said "ok" and hung up on me, instead of explaining where I could find it. After speaking with 2 other reps, I was told I would get calls from 2 managers regarding these 2 employees within 1 hour. When I talk to customer support, they tell me the local office will call me back within one hour, yet they NEVER call me back! read more
