I had a great first experience at Upper West Spa. I came in for laser hair removal, and was a bit nervous about it. Joanna immediately put me at ease. She was very warm and reassuring, and insisted that there was no pressure and that we could take breaks or even do it in multiple days if I wanted. She performed the procedure expertly, explained aftercare, and was responsive over email when I had questions in the following days. I really liked the coziness of Upper West Spa, the friendly staff, and of course Joanna's warmth and professionalism. They take COVID precautions seriously, which I very much appreciated. I'm happy to go back for more laser sessions, and will definitely look into massage and other treatments that the spa offers. read more

I recently moved to the UWS and have been searching for a new massage place. I had a fantastic 60 minute Swedish massage with Magdalena. She was very kind and very skilled! The room was small but it was clean and had a dark, candlelit experience with peaceful music. Unfortunately, this is not the type of place where you can sit in a robe before and after treatment to relax. But if you need a massage and don't need the frills, you can get that here! The staff members were friendly and offered beverages and little snacks while you wait. If you go to their website, you can get 10% off your first visit which was a nice touch! Lucyna at Upper West Spa is simply AMAZING!!! I have been going to Lucyna for regular facials for over 8 years, and I cannot recommend her MORE! I've seen other facialists while traveling, including ones at various 4 Seasons, Mandarin Orientals, and at Canyon Ranch...and I can safely say that Lucyna beats out the competition! Even when I moved way downtown for a few years, I made the trek uptown just to see Lucyna--because she is THE BEST! She caters her facials for your specific skin, and also takes in to account any additional factors that may be affecting your skin on a particular visit (stress, lovely lady hormones, seasonal issues, etc). She does everything in her power to make you as comfortable as possible, from changing the music, to adjusting the table or room temperature. She is meticulous and gentle with her extraction technique--I feel completely clear after my facial, and yet my skin never looks beat up which is a plus if I'm going somewhere directly after. She always suggests a peel, and my skin glow peaks at about 5 days after the facial and continues it's peak for about 10 days thereafter. Her face and decolletage massage technique is incredible and I sometimes find it more relaxing than a one hour full body massage! I feel confident that my skin is in it's best shape possible because of my regular visits to Lucyna. I've followed Lucyna over the years, and most recently visited her at The Upper West Spa which opened in Fall 2018. The staff all used to work at the now closed Feline Day Spa, which is where I first met Lucyna. Upper West Spa is a street level space on Amsterdam Ave, with an intimate and sophisticated vibe. It's extremely clean, they use (and sell) top of the line skin care products, and there's a calming feel as soon as you walk in the door. Overall, it's a no frills spa experience, which I personally prefer when going for a facial or quick massage. So if you're looking for the whole robe plus steam room extended day spa experience, go elsewhere. But if you want to enjoy a calming cup of tea followed by a FANTASTIC and well priced facial to keep your skin looking fresh and youthful, go see Lucyna at Upper West Spa!...and then continue seeing her about every 3-4 months!! read more

I had a facial here in late November/early December, done by Joanna. I can honestly tell you it was the best facial I have ever received. I have very sensitive skin and it tends to react to new products or anything out of my standard and very ordinary skincare regime. Joanna inspected my skin upon doing anything to it and also asked me a variety of questions ranging from diet and exercise, stress levels, cleanliness, etc. to get to know it better. Joanna then treated my skin in a few different ways. She explained everything as she was doing it and the purpose of what she was doing or applying. It was very informative, while still being extremely relaxing. Typically after a facial, I'm subjected to hide since my face is red from the extraction, but have had the extractions done in the middle of the treatment, I was able to confidently go to dinner afterwards without worrying whether or not I would be all blotchy. Not only did my skin feel clean and wonderful but it as glowing! It did have your standard reaction the next few days, as it was purging all of the toxins, but it subdued quickly. I can't wait to make my next appointment and share the Upper West Spa with all of my friends and family! read more
