If Grandma made beans this good, half the family would've never left home. But even though theirs isn't my usual style, I'd eat a five-gallon bucket of it without apologizing to anybody. The brisket sandwich? Lawd have mercy! Tender enough you don't hardly need teeth. The waitress treats you like you've been neighbors for twenty years, keeps your drink full, and makes you feel right at home. That's the kind of Southern hospitality folks are always talking about. So quit fooling around with the same ol' drive-thrus and chain restaurants. Gas up the truck, tell your wife you're "running an errand," and head over there. The crowd was playing all kinds of games. The vibe was different from the usual sports bar scene. We enjoyed watching what was going on and feeling how much fun everyone was having. Barbecue sauce is usually the soul of a place like this, something that tells you the story of the pitmaster and their craft. Here, there was no story, just packets of Kraft BBQ sauce. The potato salad and baked beans tasted like they came straight from a grocery store container, unseasoned and uninspired.
