I would highly recommend not using this moving company. Yes, the price was reasonable and crew was nice and chatty. One of their crew members was showing off and decided to take off our heavy and large armoire off the truck by himself and dropped it on the driveway/ground. They provided us with a minimal fee to repair the armoire. The entire crew was very reckless with our furniture and boxes, as well as the interior of our brand new home. They unloaded the truck disregarding our instructions and posted signs in home and placed many boxes in the wrong location this requiring my husband and I to move numerous heavy boxes to their correct location. When we hired a third party to come to our home and assemble our pool table, they discovered we were missing the end panel that holds the pool table together. We contacted this moving company and they had the item sitting in their lost and found, with our name on it and no one bothered to contact us and return it. This irresponsible error cost us additional money for the third party to come back a second time to finish assembling the pool table. Do yourself a favor by not adding stress and headaches to your move and consider another reputable moving company. read more

My boyfriend is in the military, and they utilized different companies for our move to MI. University were responsible for the storage and delivering our goods. The two individuals were pleasant; however, a few days later, as I was unpacking my belongings, I realized my game console, some brand new games, and electronics were missing. They were in a clear Rubbermaid box so you can clearly see the items. I don't know which company my boyfriend ended up filing a claim with, but I just know it was denied on the grounds that there is no proof my game console and games were in that box since it was labeled Living Room Items by the packing company (it was in his living room afterall). I can't prove who from which company stole my belongings (I'm using that word, because the box arrived, but the contents were partially missing). I can't get the picture out of my mind when one of the movers, upon wheeling the box to us, asked if there was anything wrong with the boxes. He didn't ask about any other boxes, and I wasn't sure what he was referring to, but I remember my clear Rubbermaid box being amongst the stack of boxes. Whichever company my boyfriend filed the claim with, asked us not to file a report with local authorities (as suggested by Nintendo) while they try to "trace the missing items"; however, I have the serial number and the cops should be able to find it once someone logs in with the device. read more

Used them several years ago for a large move and they made the experience horrible. moving is difficult enough, and they made it worse. Salesman lied about what they would do, or at the very least vastly overstated what his ability to deliver was. A large amount of damages due to carelessness, a large number of missing things. They made claim settlement difficult and drag on for over a year. Repeat phone calls, and messages to management to get things settled were ignored and not returned. Use them only if you don't mind a bad experience. read more

They helped me move into my new place back in September, with all my belongings in their storage for about 3 weeks prior as I was still trying to find a new home after having to leave the old one at the end of August. At the time of the move, they seemed very friendly and helpful, but after unpacking I have found that many items are missing, including several video games and a dozen or so movies. Some missing items were inside boxes I taped shut myself. I know they weren't left behind at the old place because I checked there thoroughly before leaving the last time, and I have checked and rechecked all of my boxes after unpacking everything. I sent them a list of all the missing items nearly a month ago, and got no reply. Many of these items will be very expensive to replace, and some may be impossible to replace. I also found several items broken or disassembled despite being in boxes clearly marked "FRAGILE". Do NOT employ their services if you want ALL your items returned to you! read more

We booked our move with this company to move us to South Carolina. Nothing went as they told us it would. First don't let them touch a thing in your home until you look into the truck and make sure they have enough room on the truck to take all of your things in the same truck. Next even with receipts for your belongings that's not proof you still owned the items and they actually moved them. Take pictures of everything and it's not a bad idea to run a constant video of everything they touch. Number your boxes and keep your own records. Make sure that the movers that are in your house wrap your furniture before they take it out of your house. The guys actually doing the work do not work for the moving company they are sub contractors that have no interest in your possessions! They picked through our stuff and stole my Bose sound system along with other things of value. They finally brought our broken furniture 16 days late and basically told me that it was our fault for the problems. Kevin our representative was certainly on top of making sure he got our money but fixing anything or concerns about our situation was the last thing on his mind!! An accurate summary of the following would be: there were countless times when I seriously wondered if I'd hired a legit company. We hired University Moving & Storage Company to move our things from Traverse City, MI into their storage facility for about a month and a half, then down to our new home in San Antonio, TX. I saw their BBB rating and a few other reviews that made me feel it was a good decision, which is why I'm taking the time to detail our experience so you can see what it really means to hire UMSC. Due to COVID, my husband and I stayed away from the movers, but the little I saw looked promising, so I wrote a glowing email of praise to our moving coordinator, Kevin N., hoping such recognition would lead to continued luck. It wouldn't, but only because the movers hadn't been as great as we'd thought...and neither was Kevin. The movers lied about the pre-move condition of several of our things on the inventory/moving forms and damaged/ruined items by dismantling seemingly anything that wasn't a solid piece of wood or metal. Like most, our furniture is in varying degrees of "loved," including a few brand-new pieces we'd protected by keeping toddlers & cats far away from, but it was all described as some combination of "worn," "scratched," "dented," etc. In one case, I happened to see a mover drop a crib mattress into the dirt, which was not a big deal as it's plastic and covered in a washable cover. Post-move, however, we'd discover a note written on the mattress box claiming the mattress had had one side covered in dirt when they found it. Great. And imagine finally getting your furniture and realizing you now have to figure out what's missing, find said missing parts, and put it all together. Some things had already been reassembled, but badly, bearing the marks of a wrench or missing a track to a desk drawer, or on backwards. It's the gag gift that keeps on giving. The most dependable thing about Kevin is that he isn't, unless you need a quick-witted excuse. We wanted the movers to arrive the day after we closed on our home (the 11th) and needed to book hotels for our trek across the US during a pandemic (with twin toddlers and cats). It took Kevin two weeks to give us 4 possible delivery dates, but we wouldn't actually own the house for 3 of them. Finally, after 5 more weeks of emailing, calling, and wondering if I'd hired a legit company, Kevin sent an email on the day of our closing, to tell us the movers would arrive on the 15th, 4 days later than we'd wanted. So, we camped out in our empty new home for 5 days, planning where everything would go, making fun memories with our twins, and looking forward to the day when we would return to sleeping on a bed and sitting in chairs. Normalcy. But the movers wouldn't arrive on the 15th...the 16th, or even the 17th. In fact, we'd camp out for 3 more days or 8 days after we closed on our home. When things go wrong, you want someone you can count on in your corner, so Kevin was completely useless. He kept promising to look into things and call us back, but never did. I had to chase him down every time, culminating in a moment that belongs in a cringe-worthy comedy, not real life, and certainly not when you're standing in the middle of your empty home, wondering how you're going to tell your husband that he was right to question the company you've repeatedly defended: Kevin told me he was on the other line with "the guys in San Antonio" and asked me to hold. About a minute later, I was "accidentally" taken off hold in time to hear an angry Kevin berating the thin air as he pretended to fight on our behalf. Then, he "came back on the line" to tell me it'd be another 3 days. He even referenced his passionate skit by commiserating with me and saying he'd "had to use some not-nice words" to tell them what he thought. So I was done with Kevin. He passed me on to his manager, John Luke, who was a huge improvement as he actually apologized, seemed to genuinely care, and tends to respond. I really appreciated John Luke's efforts, but, here we are nearly 4 weeks after he promised to send a check reimbursing us for the extra storage and the $50 per diem for the late delivery, and we have nothing. So this has completely wrecked my faith in people. And, every week that passes, we find yet another couple of items bearing wrench marks or broken from the ridiculous dismantling process. I have never come across a more unprofessional company. They under estimated the move after we had reviewed all items several times. The move was separated into two days. After the first move with still a lot to move they sent a small truck with one person. They did the best they could but obviously it wasn't all going to fit. When I advised them that we had two days to remove all items and leave the house they said they would work on it. After hearing nothing for two days I arranged the move myself, having to rent a truck, hire movers and move items myself despite having a serious back injury. I submitted my invoices and was basically jerked around and lied to for over a year. I highly advise you to use a different company. read more

Don't select them for a cross country move. They promised a lot, we bought the best insurance, and had them move our household of 34 years across the country. They switched drivers on us, stored our stuff in the warehouse where it was damaged, then had a mover from an affiliate drive our stuff to CA. We had high value items in perfect condition that were "fully insured." Some of these important items were damaged and lost, and the settlement from North American did NOT cover the damage or the lost item. We have gone back and forth with the company. They have not been honest with us about the coverage or even that they would take send proper payment. Communication is terrible. I waited to write this review to give them a chance to make things right, but they walked away from us and closed the settlement without our input or arbitration. Sad. read more

We have lived in Michigan our entire lives so when we mad the decision to move to Colorado it was a huge undertaking for us. We contacted several interstate moving companies. University was low bid and performed outstanding. Once we had a move date we were plugged into the system everything went as planned. The loaders were professional and courteous and did not waste any time. The driver (Gary) was very thorough and considerate. Our planned delivery date was originally not going to happen until the following Tuesday and we explained to Gary that if he could do better we would be very happy. He actually made the delivery on Sunday which helped us immensely. The unload crew was efficient and timely. We could not be happier. We are still not done unpacking everything but so far there has been no breakage or damage other than a martini glass that my wife admits she packed wrong. read more

Excellent moving company! They came out to give me a quote the next day after I called and they gave me a price on the spot. They gave me an excellent pick up date and the crew that came to load couldn't have been more competent, professional, careful and great people! The coordinator, Brad, was fantastic!! He kept me informed every single step of the way and couldn't have been more pleasant. I had a really great experience with University Movers. I was moving out of state and on a tight timeline. I first requested an estimate and Kevin got me a quote within four days. Once I accepted their price (the lowest quote out of 3 estimates) we had the pickup date and time scheduled within a week. From estimate to drop off the whole process took less than 3 weeks! Mark and Jimmy loaded my belongings very quickly and carefully and I was amazed how fast they got things into my new place (in a 3rd floor walk up)! My furniture was in perfect condition and they were very careful of the walls and floors in my new apartment. Best of all, they were friendly, polite, and professional. Brad, (the move coordinator), was always in touch and kept me abreast of the progress every step of the way. I only have good things to say about the Team at University Movers! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!!! I purchased the total insurance package with them--my delivery was delayed--I can understand that. But the service was terrible and slimy! They lost several boxes and after TWO months of "investigation," I got a letter telling me that they found no loss. Really??!! And the letter purporting to tell me they could not accept liability for the loss told me they were sorry for "concern in (my) relocation from Texas to Virginia." I moved from Michigan to Seattle. Several boxes were clearly missing--the people who delivered were in a hurry--the movers totally messed up my wall--it was newly painted. They did NOT identify every box--in fact, there were several missing. This place is the WORST!!! I have moved several times across country and never had anything this bad. Their claims department is an absolute joke. It is some kind of contracted service called SIRVA out of Fort Wayne. I don't think the people there even know English--very inappropriate e-mails. And kiss all those wonderful promises of great service from the University Moving Company in Grand Rapids good-bye once the truck hits the road!! They apparently sub-contract their moves with independent contractors. When the truck broke down--there was no assistance from NorthAmerican--all of the sudden you are dealing with a sub-contractor. As far as my lost items--I got a few sentence letter stating that "there is no indication that any loss occurred while the shipment was in our possession." EXCEPT THAT I DID NOT RECEIVE ITEMS!!! How's that for an "indication?" GO ANYWHERE ELSE!!! They may be a few dollars cheaper but I regret the minute I made the phone calls to these characters. And the extra money I paid for insurance???? What a joke. read more
