Eric was extremely friendly and answered all questions I had. He explained every step. I highly recommend him.

Project Overview I rarely leave negative reviews, but after spending nearly $16,000 with Universal Pest & Termite, Inc., I feel others deserve to know about my experience. I hired them to remove a serious rat problem and encapsulate my crawl space. The salesperson, Brandon, did an excellent job explaining the process and setting expectations. Unfortunately, almost none of those expectations were met once the work began. Communication Issues The project started late, and throughout the job there were multiple days when no one showed up without any communication. I repeatedly called and texted Brandon looking for updates, but getting a response was difficult. Eventually, I had to contact his supervisor just to get the project moving again. Work Quality When they finally said the work was complete, I decided to inspect the crawl space myself. I'm glad I did. I found areas where insulation had not been installed correctly and sections that had been completely missed. To their credit, they agreed the work was incomplete and came back to fix it. However, it makes me wonder if those issues would have ever been addressed if I hadn't crawled under my house myself. I also discovered ductwork that had been knocked down during the job. Despite reporting it, no one came back to repair it, so I ended up fixing it myself. Pest Control Results What has been even more disappointing is the pest control service that was supposed to follow the encapsulation. Since the project was completed, I've actually seen more rats than I ever did before, along with an increase in bugs. I eventually started treating the property myself because I wasn't seeing results. On the few occasions they claimed they came out to spray, the visits lasted only a few minutes. It takes me nearly one hour to thoroughly treat my property's perimeter, so it's difficult to understand how an effective service could be completed in such a short time. Final Verdict This entire experience has been frustrating from beginning to end. For the amount of money I invested, I expected professional communication, quality workmanship, and reliable follow-up service. Instead, I had to constantly follow up, inspect their work myself, point out incomplete items, and even make repairs on my own. I hope Universal Pest & Termite, Inc. takes this feedback seriously and improves its communication, quality control, and customer service. As for me, I cannot recommend them based on my experience. read more

I currently am a customer for the last 6 months, they have neglected to assist my home after I paid a couple thousand of dollars. One of the techs Dave came out a couple of times and is familiar with my issue. Every time I call to schedule what I need treated for termites the lady's who answer the phone are great but that's it. When the tech comes out they never do what I requested and the very last time the tech came he literally showed up with another tech name Dave and said "ok well I gotta go drop off Dave before 6pm" mind you why did you show up to my house to treat my house if you had to go. The company waisted my time and I have to take off work early every time a tech comes out. I had been very frustrated with the lack of management with the company over the last couple months and neglect to treat my house. I finally had escalated my concerns to the operations manager named tanner and we had a good conversation and he then said he will come to my house the following Wednesday and check out what's going on and bring supplies to treat my house, the following Wednesday comes and no one shows up. It has now been 3 weeks since that Wednesday and I had called last week to let them know the "operations manager" no showed me ! And what's going on why is no one helping?! The lady said she would leave a message for tanner to call me the next day .well no call as the next day came. The lack of management and communication is terrible, mind you they neglect to treat your house and don't care about the concerns . My floor is now about to fall through due to the joists under my house are about to break due to termite damage. I am going to report them to the pest control board this is just crazy . I would like a full refund and to find a new company and never work with them again . read more

Continue to withdrawal money from my acct for services NOT rendered for the 2nd year in a row. Canceled my Termite and Fungus contract prior to last years renewal because I was disatisfied with their service. They continue to withdrawal my annual fee. It was refunded last year but am still waiting for this year's refund. I continue to get the run around and no return calls. I cancelled my service because all they seemed to want to do is sell me expensive repairs that were unnecessary. read more

Because our usual pest control was unavailable, we phoned Universal Pest and Termite. As soon as Barbara picked up the phone, I knew that this business was going to be the right one for us. She wanted to make sure she had all the information to provide the technician, and she was really nice and helpful in doing so. They were at my place of work in less than twenty minutes, no kidding. My mind is at rest knowing that our problems will be resolved shortly because the technicians were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. Thank You Universal! read more

We had them encapsulate and seal our crawl space. They did shoddy work at an inflated price. My husband checked behind them and had them come back several times to fix their mistakes, but they never got fixed. High pressure sales for terrible results. read more

Provided a great service taking care of my crawl space! Replaced my crawl space vapor barrier and installed a new dehumidifier. The price was great and they got the service knocked out in under a week! Highly recommend! read more

I love working with Universal Pest. They are so organized. They contact me in advance when it's time for my pest control. The technician is always on time! Today I had "DJ". He was wonderful. He went over several things at the house with me, including it would be helpful if I switched from pine straw to mulch. Less moisture. Will continue to use Universal for a long time. read more

We have been with Universal for eight months have not been happy with their service at all. I have spoken to Angie, Monica, and Tanner of the Virginia Beach office several times over the last month. In addition to phone calls, voicemails, left messages, emails and text messages do Tanner's personal business cell phone I have yet to have any of my issues resolved because no one will return my calls, emails, or texts. I have had two inspections of my crawlspace and received multiple quotes. I have tried to get an accurate pricing to schedule but no one will return my messages. After doing further research of the company I'm convinced these delays were for my best interest because there is no way I will allow Universal to perform any work on my crawlspace or HVAC. Thank you Yelp for allowing customers to leave honest reviews, they have been extremely helpful. read more

Had Universal treatment for termites ($900+) They left a terrible mess: pulled up the moisture barrier in the crawl space, dug up landscaping and drainage systems, and pulled out the gutter downspout drains, which caused moisture to build up in the foundation. Terrible company. It's been 2 years since they re applied insulation in my attic and they still haven't come back to finish in the gapped missing areas. If you do use them please do not use the smart pay option!!! Even at a zero balance they will continue to draw money from your account monthly , "credit" you and you'll have to call and beg for a check to get your money back. Actively working my hardest to cut all ties with this company. read more

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR AIR DUCT CLEANING! I used their pest control service since 2003. I have no complaints about this service. Two years ago, I paid them over $900 to clean air ducts because of the gray dust and musty smell coming from them. When the person came to do the cleaning, all he had with him was a small handheld apparatus that was similar to an air compressor. I was accustomed to having more elaborate machinery for this process. The supervisor who accompanied the service person told me their system was different. Now, two years later, I still have gray dust coming out of the vents and a musty smell in the house. I have called, sent emails, and left messages asking for a call. No on ever called me unless it was to schedule pest control. I finally canceled the service and stopped the automatic payments. I still received calls and demands for payment. I told the person I had canceled service and requested a call from a manager or owner multiple times. No one returned my calls. read more

I strongly recommend Universal Pest & Termite for Moisture and Termite Inspections. Andrew Normand and his team always go above and beyond to thoroughly inspect and provide treatments. As a realtor, I strongly recommend them when I am representing both sellers and buyers-- I even used him as the inspector on my own home. They understand the strain of a real estate transaction but never let that affect their inspection standards. Andrew, is always available to answer any questions I may have and has saved several transactions from falling apart. He makes my clients feel at ease even when he finds evidence of termites. He knows the process of a real estate transaction and is always a professional. I can always count on them to answer my questions and concerns. I also keep their quarterly pest treatment on my personal home because of their service on the inspection side. read more

My house flooded out last year. Due to the moisture in the house, I developed an issue with all sorts of pests. I found Universal and was impressed by the reviews. I gave them a try, not really expecting much (bad experience with the last company I had years ago). Dave is my tech who has now been out to the house three times. After two months, my house is virtually bug free. A couple of weeks ago, I discovered I now have a rodent in my attic. Dave was out here this weekend, getting traps baited. I am truly impressed with how thorough Daves is, how efficient and how professional he is. I was truly embarrassed my house had a bug issue, and he was not condescending at all. He mentioned this area is prone to bugs because of the swamps. I am grateful for his attitude towards it. And to his credit, the problem is virtually gone! read more

I was willing to give a local company a try. Very disappointed! Salesperson was "shady" (but I gave him the benefit of the doubt). Customer service was "horrible". Did not keep 3 scheduled appointments BUT installments very taken out on time EACH MONTH! Did NOT return calls or voicemails when I tried to find out where the exterminators were for my scheduled appointments. Once I got in touch with the company, asked what happened to the exterminator & my appointment, the response was, "I don't know." When I called to cancel my (lack of ) service, the agent was happy to cancel & did not attempt to retain my business. Please DO NOT use THIS company! read more

I waited over a year since my new ducting and moisture barrier install to write this review. Last summer, I had new ducting put in with a moisture barrier. The ducting came unhooked 5 separate times and I had to call Jacob, the installer, to come "fix" it 4 of those 5 times. He does not work there anymore and I am assuming it is due to his quality of work. He was a nice person, though. I had an outside company come do a wood destroying insect inspection for a refi and they informed me the moisture barrier was done sloppily. I called Universal and Ben and Jeff came and fixed it AND my ducting that had somehow came unhooked, again. I discontinued my pest service with them when I complained about a possible rodent issue, they came and said there was no evidence of that. My WDI inspection said otherwise. I ended up trapping two rats myself. Their service is too expensive for them to kill some ants, I can put granules down myself. Appointments. In the past they were pretty prompt with getting out here for immediate issues. I can say, after I discontinued the pest service, it's an act of God for them to get out here. Coincidence? I don't know. The last appointment was rescheduled by them 2x's after my initial scheduled appointment, 11 days later my ducting was reconnected. My electric bill the last month was stupid high, now I know why. Previous to this appointment, I had a guy come by to look at the moisture barrier issue while I was not home. He left no invoice, the company had no record he came out, but he was here. My camera saw him. I am also going to assume he knocked my ducting loose while in my crawlspace. They must use cheap materials if it is disconnecting that easily. I am going to bet that I will likely have to update this post because my ducting will come unhooked again in the future. This company is a jack of all trades and a master at none. The people who work there are polite. The guy who came to my house to do the initial inspection and sold me on the moisture barrier and ducting was a little "used car salesman-ish." Overall, I would recommend using another company. read more

My last experience with Universal Pest was fantastic. We really needed to seal up our house against a major rodent problem and everyone from Tanner to David Schultz to the receptionist (I can't remember her name) did amazing work. Especially David. He came out to our house and worked tirelessly in the unbearable heat and boy is he a perfectionist. He would not leave until every area was sealed. Definitely ask for David if you need this work done at your house!!!! read more

I am lost for words with this company. We bought a house in January, and Universal was used by the seller to perform the work. Our inspector pointed out standing water in the crawlspace, and a broken crawlspace door. Universal also provided us a clear termite letter and moisture letter. 1) Tanner agreed to address the standing water issue. Some sand was added to the crawlspace, and Universal issued a clear termite letter and moisture. Tanner informed us when we found the work wasn't done that he dropped the QA ball and would fix it. I went into the crawlspace and noticed there was still standing water, and areas where the soil was below grade, leading to pits. I pointed this out to Tanner and he agreed to fix it. Two weeks later and Tanner dispatches some guys to come out and fix it. They only did a little bit of the work. When I asked the techs why all the work wasn't done, I was informed by the techs that Tanner gave them a diagram to follow. Tanner came back to do his QA. I had Tanner come with me under the crawlspace and I pointed out areas under the house that still were not filled with sand. There was still standing water. When I informed Tanner that his techs told me they followed the diagram he gave them, Tanner proceeded to blame the issue with his techs not following directions. Tanner assured me and my wife that holes under the house would be filled with sand. This was the last we heard from Tanner. He, nor anyone from Universal came back to fix/finish their work. 2) The crawlspace door was not installed correctly. The crawlspace manufacturer was kind enough to provide a new door under warranty. read more

This company has been the just the absolute worse. I originally signed up for their pest and termite plan when I purchased my house and continued throughout the time I have had it and converted it to a rental property. I have been paying them for years for pest and termite service. As it was explained to me originally I would be covered if the their was termites, needless to say I have got termite at the rental property. The only thing they cover is to come out and retreat the property with the same bogus treatment that didn't prevent the termites in the first place. Just an FYI do your research and do you due diligence on this company. Spend very little more and get terminix or someone else ... see pics attached , some warranty ! read more

I have had a terrible experience with Universal Pest, I have been with them for years, and have constantly received "All Clear" in my crawl space for years; then I go to sell my house, I pay them over $1,000 to clean things up (vapor barrier, seal vents), and I had 3 "all Clear" inspections in over 5 months, when I got ready to close, three days after the last "clear" inspection, I was told I had wood damage that had to be repaired in order to close on my house. They charged me almost $2,000 to "repair" the damaged wood. When I sent a letter to the owner George Pilkington, asking how I could have had a clear inspection 3 days earlier, but he did not respond to my request. So I called to speak to him, and left several messages, but he would not return my call. Now I have lost $3,000. My Realtor has only heard bad remarks about them. read more

I had these guys out last year for a termite inspection, the inspector was good last year and pointed out some things. This week another inspector came back, and went to look at the attic first. He got up on a ladder and looked around from the access and pointed out some condensation on the drain pipe off the air handler and a bird nest in one of the vents, but then started to get down. I asked him, "are you not going to go up and inspect the whole attic?" He told me it was unsafe because there was no flooring, and that termites start from the bottom. I told him he could leave if he wasn't going to do a proper inspection. This would have cost me $128 to have them do this, probably wouldn't have gone very far under the crawl space either. read more

A couple of years ago my wife had Universal Pest & Termite install a crawlspace dehumidifier. The price was about $4,000 (which I thought at the time was outrageous- but it was my wife's thing so I let it go). They then charged almost $400 per maintenance visit for the unit (which, again I thought was exhorbitant- but held my peace). Finally I canceled the contract and called Universal Pest & Termite and asked for the make and model number of the unit they installed, and they told me they would call me back the next day with the information. They never called back. I called two days later and asked again for the information. They then told me they didn't have the information and couldn't give it to me. I was flabbergasted. What shoddy business practices. Now, I guess I'll have to go under the crawlspace with a flashlight and try to read the information off the unit and then try to print out an owners manual from the internet, and change the filter and check the drainage line myself. Will never do business with this outfit again. read more

Purchased our new home within the past year and Universal seemed to be highly recommended by our real estate agent and online reviews searches. Overall, we have been extremely pleased with the services they have provided that were in the contract as well as going above and beyond by our service agent, Andy Sincharge. He's given us recommendations for potential entry points that he has found during his services that we may not have seen ourselves since we rarely, if ever, go into the attic. The only reason for not giving 5 stars in this review is that they no longer offer invoicing for the services, which made it more convienient. read more

I signed up with this company to have help with a rat problem I am having. I hired the company to help find out how the rat was getting into my kitchen. The man that showed up from Universal Pest Control did not almost try to help me find out where the rat was coming in at. He only put down traps and sticky pads all in the house. He told me he would go to the crawl space and put stuff under the house. The next time I called them the same man came back and said he did not put anything under my house because the crawl space had a board with two screws in it and he did not have a screw driver. When I try to cancel my contract because they did nothing to fix my problem, then they want to charge me a $150 cancellation fee. Use another company. read more
