I contacted Unity via their website and and someone got back to me in a couple days. They asked for some information, which I gave them plus pictures. More than 10 days later I have not heard back from the individual despite sending two more texts. I used to go to this salon often, and now I can't even get a return call or text. I'm immensely saddened because I feel there is one of two reasons: One is because I'm non-binary, the second is because of laziness. I only hope that it is the later not the former. My wife has been going to Crystal for at least 10 years for cuts and colour. She's been extremely happy with her work, hence the return visits for 10 years. After taking my 5 year old daughter to a few of those "kids salons" to get uneven hair cuts and bad styling, we decided to take her to see Crystal and I wanted to slap myself for not taking her there sooner. My daughter has very wavy, dry hair and Crystal knows just how to work with it, rather than try to make it do something it just doesn't want to. She really pays attention to my daughter and engages in conversations with her; it's very cute watching the my daughter "gossip" with her stylist and both of them seem to enjoy it. Here is my disclaimer: I only went to this salon because my stylist Breanna - who I've followed for YEARS plopped herself here. I love Breanna and I have been following her around this whole time. I will follow her wherever she goes. Even though it's super early - getting in a 8am on a Saturday was kinda nice. I had the whole day left afterwards. I love this salon! It's such an adorable salon in downtown Fullerton! Very welcoming & friendly! Receptionist is always super sweet! I've been going there for almost 2 years now to Shelby. She is truly AMAZING with my color & extensions! I had been wanting to go to her for a while (I know other people who go to her and their hair is just gorgeous) but I had a stylist I was already going to at another salon. Sure, everyone at Unity Salon is super friendly and seem competent at their things. I even see return customers, once in a while, so I know they have a steady business. Tbh, I've ever only had Melinda work on my hair. Melinda has been coloring and cutting my hair for quite a many years. She's the best. Living in Los Angeles for many years, I've been around the block with quite a few colorists and cut specialists, and there's nobody I've been able to afford that's better than Melinda. Now, my super blonde hair is super healthy, too, and I basically don't do anything special to it. I use to have to have to condition and repair my hair, and they would still muck it up, either with banding from uneven lightener application, or overprocessing. I happened to be working in the area for the last year, so have been going to her consistently. In the future, I will travel for Melinda, when I don't work in the area anymore. read more

(deep sigh) I was really hoping that I would like this salon and after reading such good things about Crystal, I hoped that she would be able to cut and style my crazy, curly hair. Sadly, this was not the case. The salon is nice, but Crystal (despite being a very nice person - I actually really liked her) gets the dubious honor of giving me one of the worst cuts since I moved to Orange County seven years ago. It is too short, a little uneven, and there is a huge chunk of hair missing from one side of my head. The back is okay (except for the shortness). The color isn't bad, but it isn't very good. The styling was horrific - think electrified poodle. I just don't get it - at least when I got bad cuts in San Diego, the stylist would at least style my hair really well before I left. My hair is actually really easy to style - the curl makes it easy and someone can actually cover a bad cut really well. But everyone in Orange County seems to want to send me out the door with a frizzy mess. If only stylists would LISTEN to me. I tell them exactly what my hair is like and exactly what they should do to get the best cut (I have, after all, had the most experience with my own hair). And Crystal, like all the others, refused to do what I suggested. Maybe I will just start cutting my own hair. read more

This is a review about Penny as she is the one who butchered my hair. I had come to this salon after reading all the great reviews on Yelp and I desperately need to fix my hair since a different salon had given me way to many layers when I had asked for just an inch or two of layers. I showed Penny a picture of exactly what I wanted (which was a chin length bob) and what she did was nowhere near it. She gave me a pixi cut...When she asked me how I thought, I calmly told her that I didn't like it and pointed out that it wasn't what I had asked for. Her response? "Maybe you have issues with people who cut your hair." REALLY?! Maybe you should just give me the hair cut I asked for. Her reason why she cut my hair shorter than the woman in the picture was that I was Asian and the woman in the picture was white......ooookaaay.... On top of that, it was $65!!! I went to this salon because of it's rave reviews from other members and let me tell ya, it did not disappoint! I requested Heather, also from what others have said about her, and she was phenomenal! I chose a hair color that was a bit difficult to do, too much red, it would look orange, too much yellow it would look blond, I wanted neither, and it came out PERFECT! My sister left a few things out during our visit at Unity Salon. In addition to Penny's comment about maybe my sister having an issue of people cutting her hair, she responded to my request to curl my sister's hair to see what it would like styled after the cut, "I don't curl hair." Wait. What do you mean you do not curl hair? Even though we didn't have a great (let alone a good) experience, we each still tipped 15-20% My hair cut was difficult to butcher and was fine (though not worth $65 excluding tip). Regardless, the horrible experience for my sister has turned me off of this place forever. Listen, if your potential clients specifically asks for someone who is comfortable cutting short hair, please do so. read more

Guys... I HIGHLY recommend you see BreAnna... she is absolutely the best stylist I have ever had. I have been a client of her's for years now, and I have never left her side. She is highly experienced, authentic, and trustworthy. I literally dont trust my hair to anyone else but her. She doesn't rush through the haircut like others do.. she takes her time to make sure the cut is perfect. She is worth it! I also recommend Celeste if you guys want to get your eyebrows cleaned up. I went here to try a new salon and a new stylist. I don't remember her name but she was sweet and... mute. She didn't talk the whole time which makes me feel very awkward. My hair came out good. A little darker blonde than I usually perfer but not bad at all. Everyone else seemed to be BFF with their stylist and I felt left out because my girl didn't like me. It was expensive. When I can't see Audrey for a haircut at Dylux, I make an appointment with Crystal at Unity. She is so awesome. The salon is in the Old Town section of Fullerton. The stylist look really hip, and the place has a very New York loft look to it. They take walk-ins, but appointments are highly suggested, especially for Crystal since I have noticed lately she has been very busy. Crystal has been cutting my hair for over two years now, on and off. She is very sweet and has a great sense of style. There were a few times when I have asked her to experiment with my hair, and each time my hair looked fabulous. One of those cuts made my honey drop to his knees. Seriously. She is also excellent at taming my wild, curly hair. She has lessened the pouf and she takes the time to flatten it out when needed. Crystal will also offer refreshments for you to sip on and there are a ton of current magazines available for your reading pleasure. I usually come here for a deep condition, then a cut and style. This combo runs around $70 I believe. Yes, it is a bit pricey, which is why I only make a visit a few times a year. So the next time you want to look fierce for that new job, or make your man drop to his knees, make an appt. with Crystal. She'll take care of you. read more

I have finally found a salon that I hasn't disappointed me. I was a walk-in, waited approximately 10 minutes to get started. While I was waiting... I was offered some tea and I got started on my hair shortly. My stylist was BreAnna, she's very nice and fashionable as well. I had my roots done, she did an awesome job with matching my previous color. I had also bleached the front part of my hair, and made it look exactly how I wanted it. Plus, I had told her that I do want a trim, but I don't want my hair any shorter like how the other places just chop off my hair. She did exactly what I wanted, and she made me feel very comfortable. She even curled my hair for me at the end, because I came in with my hair curled in the beginning. Dell, and the salon, got me AND my sister in for an appointment at 7 pm the week before christmas. They CLOSE at 7. I love this place, they are so accomodating and Dell is a top notch stylist who is so good at what she does. The first time I came in i told her what i wanted, and she listened closely. The continuous bright side about unity is that you're always able to call them up and get an appointment the week that you want it. Or, if you want it, depending if your hair stylist is in that day, that day or the next. I first walked in, January 2009, unsure of what to do with my hair. It was getting skraggly, that's all I knew, but I knew nothing about the stylists here nor the location. (It's right on the corner of Harbor & Wilshire.) At the time, there were less than 10 reviews for this establishment, each and every glowing with compliments to this salon. It's so close to me! I had to try it. The first person who walked in to take me was Heather. A woman whose fire lights up so bright; you can instantly tell what kind of person she is when she starts up the conversation and keeps it continuing. She's always smiling whenever I walk in and I've never seen her bad side, which speaks more for other establishments and their stylists. She changed my blah-shoulder length hair into a short a-line sort of bob/cut that had compliments throwing at me at every corner. Yeah, I like compliments! Coming down to Unity Salon is my one serious splurge when it comes to me. A cut/trim hits me at $60, but I honestly think that Heather and her magic scissor-wielding fingers are worth every penny. read more

I was searching for a salon on yelp and came across Unity Salon. It was close to my place and got great reviews. I saw that Heather got so many good reviews, so I called in and made an appointment. I told her what I wanted and it was that simple. My hair came out great. Perfect for what I wanted. Sometimes I wake up in a cold sweat from the scariest nightmare ever, no not giant brussel sprouts or people eating washing machines..WORSE! Carmen moved and i'm left hairstylistless. Maybe you think i'm exaggerating, OR maybe you know Carmen Costescu and can totally sympathize. Carmen is ah-mazing!! Carmen's the only person that's touched my hair in about 5 years, unless its someone gently stroking my silky hair while wishing it was their own. i keep my eye (just one) on them though cuz i can't have my hair ending up in someone's weave. Color is this woman's bff. She's made my super dark hair a really nice non-yellow non-chola blonde, copper, red, plum, pink and everything in between. Last two times I got a brazilian blowout and i think it's time for another. Besides having hair skillz Carmen is an amazingly sweet/funny/nice girl and i LOVE seeing her whenever i get the chance.
