I've been coming here for a little over a year. Last night I ordered the Shepard's pie. But let's…read morestop right there. This wasn't a pie. It was a bunch of separate ingredients slopped into a container. If these ingredients were cooked together and not just assembled into the to go container, I'll gladly eat my own shorts. It was more a stew than a pie. So much liquid (gravy?) and cheese that I remarked, this might make me sick, right before I stopped eating it. My fault, but I was so hungry. It made me sooooo sick. The grease was the most prevalent thing on the dish. I was shaking my fist at myself for eating that slop, as I wretched my well earned money into the toilet. I won't be going back here. Mostly because whoever decides what goes on the menu, has a SERIOUS judgement problem. But also because every time I pick up my to go order there's a bunch of awkwardness as I stand directly behind whatever customer is sitting at the end of the bar. Remove the stools, and no one would sit there. Has management checked out? Simple fixes.

They don't take reservations, and they don't have a waitlist you can join before arriving -- which almost deterred us since we'd been driving all day and the hangry monsters were in full effect. But we risked it and actually got seated right away. Service was great -- friendly and attentive, there just enough and exactly when you needed it. The cocktails were pretty good. I had the Proper Manhattan (Woodford Reserve whiskey, sweet vermouth, and Woodford Reserve chocolate bitters, garnished with a Luxardo maraschino cherry and orange wedge) and the Proper Pig (Crown Maple bourbon and amaretto, garnished with an orange slice and bacon). My dinner was great -- I opted for the Veggie Wedgie (house-made veggie black bean burger with fontina cheese, avocado, shredded lettuce, red onion, tomato, and a citrus chipotle aioli, served on a brioche bun), and I swapped the fries for a side salad. I also added on some mac and cheese, because you gotta be bad sometimes ;) I'd order all of it again! The others got the fried fish and fried shrimp plates and weren't as enthusiastic as I was -- they said the breading was a bit too thick. Overall, it was good, and I'd hit it up again if I'm ever back in town.

Location - Great thing about their location is there are plenty of places to kill time while waiting for your table - local shops or Waterville Creates. We were there on a Saturday and we arrived around 2:30 for an late lunch/early dinner. To our surprise, there was a 25 minute wait! It's a popular family restaurant as well. It's a lot bigger inside than it seems from the outside. When you walk in, there are mostly high tables and a long bar with seating. Walk past the bar and on the right is a dining area with a lot more tables. We had 2 kids and 4 adults and we had plenty of room at a center table. There were booths along the wall. Our server was so great. So patient, and kind. She was great. She checked in regularly, our drinks never went dry. The food was excellent. We had the food for take out during the pandemic and thought it was ok. Having it in the restaurant - HUGE difference. I got the cheese curd burger without the top bun. My nephew loved his chicken wings, my niece loved her mac and cheese. We all loved our burgers and my bro-in-law liked his reuben. I loved the fries, they seemed more the "chips" from the UK - which I loved. Parking - street or on the concourse below Main Street. We will definitely be back.

The FOS was actually really good, although had a peppery taste which I have never had before. The wings were good, 8 come per order. The side of fish was also good. The server was very nice, it just took a long time for our food to come out. It was hot & fresh, but took too long.

We also ordered two appetizers -- BBQ wings and the Pub Poutine. The margaritas were so awesome, we both had a 2nd one. Wings were excellent -- meaty, with a crispy outer coating. But I wasn't crazy about the poutine though. The gravy used was very light in color and it didn't have white cheddar cheese curds on top. It wasn't "authentic Canadian poutine". Poutine aside, the Sterlingtown Public House is a great place to kick back for a few hours at the bar. Even on a Tuesday night.

The mandatory one star is being extremely generous. If you play music on the jukebox that…read moredispleases the management, your songs might intentionally get skipped. Yes, it was poor etiquette on my part to play long songs (not sure why they are an option then), but worse etiquette is stealing someone's credits (the money they put into the machine) by refusing to allow the songs they selected to play. Another form of poor jukebox etiquette is playing gross and vulgar "music", that the majority of the other patrons don't want to have to listen to. I'm not expecting this establishment to hold themselves to some crazy high level of standards. Not stealing from your customers, and not forcing them to listen to Cardi B rap about her disease ridden genitalia every night, in my opinion would just be the beginning of having any standards at all. If you're looking for decorum, it's not here.
