One which was holding personal items and several others at our business. We recently requested to empty our home unit. They delivered it to our driveway about two weeks ago. It's been sitting in our driveway so long now that our Home Owner Association has cited us and demanded its removal. We needed a pod for about a week to store 4 rooms of our house because we were having the floors re-finished. I had already called the nationally recognized pod company, and felt that their customer service left something to be desired. Their prices were very expensive, and their availability was all about their convenience. I called Heidi at UNITS and quickly made arrangements for a pod to be delivered within a few days. Our moving company recommended UNITS Moving & Portable Storage as a local company that provided excellent service. Because of the narrowness of our driveway, Heidi offered a special narrower, taller pod that would work. And indeed it did! It fit perfectly and gave us enough room to squeeze by. It also held all of our furniture. The price was so reasonable and the drivers very nice. When I spoke to Heidi or Tom during the week, they were always helpful--including changing the pickup date. This company put a storage unit in the driveway of our neighbor. The pictures speak for them selves. I was concerned for the safety of any kids or pets who might happen to crawl under there and retrieve a ball or something. This looks highly unstable and is too high off the ground! I called Adam Martin at Units, and he told me they have never had any problems with liability and have never had an accident. All it takes is one accident and a fatality, Adam! Do we really have to wait for that before this company will come and fix this? When I first called him, his attitude was "that's how we have always done it." That was not comforting, so then my dad called him from out of town (after seeing the pictures I sent him), and the guy gave my dad the same song and dance. Then my dad mentioned Units would have a lawsuit into the millions if someone gets hurt. Adam finally agreed to send someone to fix it. We are still waiting. We told them about our specific logistical problem, for which they recommended a 4-UNIT solution. Of course, because we "knew better", we ignored them and mandated they only send one initially. After all was said and done, we ended up with exactly 4. Our needs were quirky and went well beyond what I'd imagine a typical customer would require, which Tom and Heidi deftly and expertly handled. When there were problems (as there always are with any project), they were resolved quickly, professionally and completely. We have since moved into a larger facility with "plenty" of storage, which we have already started to outgrow. When we do, we'll certainly be giving Tom and Heidi a call. read more

We used two UNITS to store our belongings when we sold our last house and were waiting for our new home (which is new construction) to be built. The entire UNITS staff was always responsive to emails and phone calls, and our items arrived in perfect condition at the end of the three months. I found no bugs in our boxes, and everything was clean. The main driver Dee was also great with communication; he always called to let me know when the storage units would be delivered and would be picked up, and was able to get them picked up on both ends of the move earlier than was promised, which was great. They were safe and secure and offered us a ton of storage safe that we could enter and exit at street level. In years past we have used commercial trucks for storage and have found it dangerous and exhausting to climb in and out at the elevated height using a hydraulic lift. Started by looking at reviews for PODS and quickly backed off for a myriad of reasons. Chose UNITS and am happy that I did. Their facility is clean and temperature controlled. Owner/Management is LOCAL, just a phone call away if there is a problem (and there were none). We needed both a 16 and 12 footer. Both UNITS arrived at the time that was promised, drivers were friendly and professional. Two months later we moved into our new home. Both UNITS again arrived as promised and were removed the same day per my request. Both drivers again were professional and friendly. Our point of contact was Grace. LOOK NO FURTHER FOR STORAGE--UNITS IS REPUTABLE AND THEIR CUSTOMER SERVICE IS TOP NOTCH!!! I cannot say enough good things about UNITS. We had a slab leak at our house, right before Christmas (good times!). I was spending Sunday morning frantically calling and researching mobile-storage companies to find one that could quickly and efficiently provide a "pod" for us to move the art and breakables into (out of the house while there was construction going on). The first few places I called either 1) did not have the size we needed, 2) would not be able to deliver the pod for at least another day or two, or 3) were way expensive or had hidden fees. The big chain companies had terrible reviews online, which didn't make me feel warm & fuzzy while already feeling vulnerable due to the situation. When I called UNITS, I was lucky enough to speak with Frank, who listened to our dilemma, offered suggestions and assistance, and then went above and beyond to help us out. And on a day where he wasn't even technically on call! Not only did Frank PERSONALLY deliver our unit THAT AFTERNOON--about 3 hours later!--he was professional, kind, and made what had so far been a hellacious, stressful experience into something manageable, thanks to our ability to save our nice things from being ruined. The pod/unit itself was clean, and has functioned great and the contents have stayed dry in the rain. I've been remiss in not writing this review until now, as our lives are just now going back to some sense of normalcy; but I had to let folks know that I was not only pleasantly surprised, but grateful and fully satisfied with this awesome local company. We sold our house and bought a new house, so we needed UNITS to store our stuff for a month in between transactions. We chose UNITS based on the positive feedback I saw on the web and boy was I glad. Although the price was slightly more, they truly make up for it with great service. Plus, I don't think its worth cheaping out on a few dollars when you're dealing with somebody storing all your worldly possessions. I had two UNITS thinking we could get both onto our driveway. Due to some narrow streets, Tom had to come out from the main office and barely got one on to my driveway. We quickly came up with a back up plan for my move out. Their storage units were clean. The warehouse was easily accessible, I was able to drive my car right up to my unit to get what I needed (with just a day's notice). Our move in was difficult as well due to some steep streets, again they were very flexible with delivery/pick-up of the units. Overall, they were proactive, responsive and very accommodating. With all the stress we had between moves, this is one thing we didn't have to stress about. After my experience with them, I would recommend UNITS to anybody I know that has an upcoming move. read more

Do not input your information on the online form unless you want to get spammed by 15 different moving companies in the span of 5 minutes (both by phone and email). It seems like this was brought up to the company several months ago but it doesn't seem like anything was done about it. I'm actually somewhat thankful that they do not service the city I will be moving to in a few weeks. UPDATE: As of 7/10/14, I have received 25 phone calls with the majority of them being in the first two hours of filling out the online form and after each phone call, I received 2-4 emails. I really hope the company does something to rectify this or at least put a note on their website giving an option to not be spammed. read more

Apparently, the data mining was not arranged by Units San Diego, but rather by their franchisor. Units San Diego was unaware of what was happening with the online form until I brought it to their attention. Lisa was extremely gracious and wanted to rectify the situation with me, which I very much appreciate. I was unable to use their service at this time, but I can tell that this is a local business that is very concerned about their customers and reputation. I have been using units for about a year now and have had overall a good experience. I really enjoyed their Manager Adam who always provided superior service. I am now moving and have had to do a lot of back and forth with the team regarding my unit. Five stars are not enough! After a pipe burst in the apartment above my garage, I had to move everything out quickly and soon realized the damage was widespread and I was going to need to put my stuff in storage. Of course this realization came late on a Saturday afternoon when most storage unit places were closed. Tom saved me! I called and he offered to bring the storage unit to my house himself - first thing Sunday morning before a family event. Wow. I was impressed by so many things about this operation - I live at the beach on an alley street, so the spot was tight. Tom first helped figure out what size was needed, then he looked on Google Maps to make sure that his truck and the UNIT would actually fit, then set up the delivery. When he showed up - on time - Sunday morning, I was even more impressed. Tom was extremely nice, knowledgeable, and helpful and the UNIT was ideal. The UNIT itself was great - I didn't really know what to expect but it was clean and well-built and very sturdy. I filled it up and then just as planned, it was picked up the next day. The delivery process was identical and went just as smoothly. Tom called and set up the delivery, then kept me posted of the driver's location and ETA. The UNIT was delivered, all of my belongings were just exactly as I left them, and again the UNIT was efficiently picked up the next morning. I highly recommend UNITS Moving & Portable Storage!!! I can not say enough great things about this company. They are wonderful to work with, have an excellent product, and are competatively priced as well. We recently moved our whole house into temporary storage and I am so glad that we chose UNITS. Their UNITS are constructed out of metal and have metal supports under the floor. Others are not made this way. We had a LOT of stuff to store and it was heavy. Without the sturdy contruction of the UNITS, we would have run into a real problem on moving day. In addition, we ran into a last minute issue and needed another UNIT ASAP. They bent over backwards to make it happen for us AND worked extra late to pick up all 3 UNITS before our close of escrow. This is a great idea that they have perfected. Mobile storage is one of the greatest inventions for being efficient. If you are looking at a normal storage unit, but may not keep it for long, these mobile units can save you a lot of time and headache. Rather than load a car or truck, drive to the facility, unload, and then reverse the process later, they simply bring a container to you, you load it at home, they pick it up, and deliver it when you're ready. Simple! UNITS has well-made storage units that go well beyond the old wooden crate that Public Storage, Door 2 Door, and some of the others still employ. These are essentially nice shipping containers with a roll door and tie-downs on the side. You can even rent or buy tie-downs from them that are really simple and sturdy. The company was easy to work with and did what they said. The price was not only reasonable, we ran a couple days over our term, and they did not charge extra. Plus, they don't have the hidden "drop off" charge that many of the competitors do. Everything is up front; this is the kind of company that is looking to provide a great service so they can get repeat and referral business, instead of gouging customers once.
