I searched a few storage container options and also offsite storage units. Easily ruled out the office buildings because they were expensive and offsite (I'd have to move my stuff to it). Of the container options, the larger chains like Pods and similar had high prices and not the best reviews. I found UNITS which had similar pricing, but they are are a local Bay Area company, they have fantastic reviews, and they had a few flexible options for sizes and storage (at my property or they could pick up and store at their facility). They were super helpful and easy to work with. Delivery was seamless, the container was in great condition and it's been working out great! Would recommend especially as a local business with great service! read more

Locally owned, easy to schedule, endlessly flexible. A short step up into the unit, it was so much easier to load the heavy things versus loading them into a truck, even with a ramp. Robots load and unload the unit from the truck, so it b-a-r-e-l-y tips the unit. Contents we're undisturbed, and remained exactly as packed. Ideally, we'll never have to move again. Ugh. It was fairly old and smelled really bad. I had my clothes in garbage bags and boxes stored inside the unit for one month. I thought it just needed to be aired out BUT I cannot get the smell/funk out of my clothes and furniture I stored in the unit. From so many positive reviews, I wanted to try them out instead of using POD. I regret that as this unit smelled like a smoker lived in it? We were remodeling and needed extra storage space during construction. The more well-known storage box brands all had horrible online ratings, which is when I came across UNITS. The whole process of requesting a box, having it delivered and picked up was so easy. The box itself was clean and kept our stuff dry and secure during some heavy rain. My wife bought me a very nice storage system with workbench for a Christmas present and it was slated to be delivered by a certain date so I knew I had to take drastic measures to clean out the garage. The portable storage unit was placed in my driveway and it was so convenient just to walk out and start storing and disposing of items. The storage container was clean. I'm not sure if this place needs another review, but writing this so I won't forget who to use next time. Units really helped me through a very stressful period. I had to do a forced remodel of the first floor of my home due to a leak. I had to move all of my first floor into storage while it was getting demolished and remodeled. I called Units in Livermore and they were so understanding of my stressful situation and sent the storage pod very next day. Delivery was smooth and the storage was unit was clean. After two months, I called them for pick up and they just picked it up today. People at this location were great and I'm so thankful. This review is way overdue, but I felt it was important to let everyone know about this company. Although I had been communicating with the customer service people in the south (as in the southern part of the US), it was the Livermore franchise that actually did the work on beginning end. We were making a cross country journey during the middle of COVID and weren't sure if we were going to find movers. But, alas, they were considered "essential businesses" and Units came to the rescue. Other than do it yourself rental trucks, we have never hired any moving companies. Units was amazing! First, you are in control of moving all of your contents into the portable crates (they actually look like train cars). You decide how long you need the units at your home, fill it up, put on the lock and they haul it to your destination. It really doesn't get any easier than that. They were at least 30% cheaper than hiring a moving company, but moving companies load your items into and out of the trucks. If you need help moving items, Units probably isn't the service for you, but I wouldn't be surprised if they had companies they could recommend for that type of service. I would definitely use Units again. Everyone we spoke with was Johnny on the spot. If they were running behind they called us. They were friendly and efficient. Most importantly, all 3 pods arrived at our destination 2,600 miles away with no damage other than minor bumps and scrapes on some of our pieces (caused from our own loading). I will post a separate review on the Units franchise who received our pods and who actually delivered them to our new home. There were 3 Units franchises involved and all worked seamlessly to move our 5 bedroom home contents across the country. HIGHLY recommend this company! read more

We were having difficulty finding a place that could accommodate our timeframe and it was recommended by a friend to give Units a call. When you're calling for service you can tell straight away if someone is genuinely listening and trying to help solve a problem. When I called I was a bit frantic and expecting them to tell me we cannot help. To my surprise, they were willing to listen and stepped in when others could not. Got a quote initially via Yelp, which was delivered fast and was intelligible. Some companies that claim to offer quotes via Yelp instead just ask you to call them, so points already for that. When I called to arrange details, it was very quick and easy, with Dana (I believe) helping me out. She answered my questions and was easy to deal with. When our UNIT / pod was delivered, it came on time and was professionally 'installed' by the driver. (It also got delivered using this awesome remote controlled lifter, which the nerd in me really got a kick out of.) UNIT itself was spotless, perfect for our needs (16' got packed with 3br worth of stuff) and nothing was damaged in transit to our new house. However, where UNITS went above and beyond was for our delivery. I managed to completely forget to order the delivery of the UNIT for the day when we had movers scheduled for our unpack. Discovered this on the day of the move! Called UNITS literally 5m before their opening time. They picked up, told me it was unlikely they could deliver same day (they ask for at least one day's notice) but it would come the next day. Two hours later at our new house, the UNITS truck turned up with our stuff. Same day delivery! In two hours! That was pretty fantastic. Very happy we used them and will again. read more

It was a Friday morning...PODS had completely screwed me, canceling my delivery without notifying me and unable to get me a POD for over a week. Only problem is I had 4 more days to move. I called in a complete panic! Donna was amazing. She could very well have said I was crazy to think they could do something in my unreasonable time frame. But she didn't. I have to admit it was a little more expensive than we anticipated. However these guys are great! I called and spoke with Allison who was super curteous and able to help me right away.they scheduled us for the next day and gave us a drop off time. I received a call from the driver George about 2 hrs in advance saying he could be there a little over an hour early. I don't write a lot of reviews but felt compelled to share my experience with UNITS. As others have mentioned, it is invaluable to have a local person who can answer questions and make things happen. These people communicate and let you know what is going on and then confirm that it has taken place. We completed a move from Livermore to Pleasanton and had a great experience. Nothing even shifted inside the unit so it was evident they took care with the contents. They are up front about explaining the rental rate and there is no pro-rated rate for partial months so just keep that in mind. It's the same policy PODS has and I think it's standard. read more

This is how all businesses should operate! I called pods 1800 phone number and all that did was waste my time since I needed the pod asap since escrow got delayed and we had to move out right away. Once I called Units, Donna explained everything. I called at noon and she scheduled to have my unit dropped off at 4pm. She even called with a couple of updates of the driver's arrival time. Turns out I had to get 2 units since the one wasn't going to cut it for a 3 bedroom house and they delivered another one promptly. Both days of unloading and loading the pods, Donna kept in close contact with me on the status of the units since the final move didn't have a driveway. She went out of her way to juggle other customers to make my move go seamlessly. Since our final move was right by there headquarters she even drove to the new location to see what options we had for the units. Everything went amazing down to the minute. Is it possible to give a 5-star review for someone whose services you didn't use? YES. When we were unsure if escrow on our new place would close on time (which would mean we would be in between houses), I made a frantic call to Donna, who helped me make arrangements to reserve two storage units for all of our furniture and things. Then, when we had to back out of our reservation because we lucked out with escrow, Donna very graciously thanked us for considering her and wished us luck. We offered again and again to pay a deposit or the delivery fee for canceling at the last minute, but Donna turned us down, saying "I don't like doing business that way." I'm impressed and grateful. Donna is very understanding to your needs & after we made our move from San Ramon to Oakley, we needed to pod removed from the driveway for our Christmas party, and while the their schedule was full & that week we were in for some heavy rain with the roads being challenge to drive, she was able to squeeze our pickup and have our driveway cleared before Christmas. UNITS really saved our bacon after PODS failed us. We were having our basement finished and need to move everything out during construction. We had originally gone with PODS because they are the name brand you see all the commercials for. Unfortunately they failed to deliver our container on multiple occasions. We were running out of time with construction scheduled to start in two days. UNITS came to the rescue and was able to deliver a 16' container for the same price offered by PODS for a12' container. And they were able to deliver the same day. The container was clean and secure and it was delivered and placed with zero problems. It was picked up promptly when we were done.
