I'm not sure what the issue is lately with this particular Branch but it leaves Alot to be desired that far sure.. 2 complaints. #1. Bad attitude! To the woman who is taking the Passport applications on the morning of Saturday March 6,2021. If you don't like your job go find a new one. Stop treating people like shit! Have some compassion. Sitting in line to mail packages and watching and listening to you treat these people like shit, how dare you! Telling the people with the baby they needed to make a new appointment because some of the paperwork was incorrect. How about helping them to get it completely correctly? And the other people standing in line at 10:15 waiting on you and then giving them shit saying they should have been here 15 minutes early. They were here on time. You are not their boss at their job. They were on time for the appointment set by you. If you have a grudge about having to work with the public in your job, get a new job where you are stuck in a factory or somewhere not dealing with the public. My last words on this. Worst mail delivery in 3 states. Can't simply follow neon green tape with the individual's name and address on it and places random people's mail in the mail slot for over 1.5 years. Unable to get priority mail delivered correctly. read more

We have issues with our mail delivery several times a year. Our neighbors have had to bring mail that was delivered to the wrong address at least 5 times in the last 2 years. Our current dilemma is that we use a neighborhood gang box. We had a good snow storm a few weeks ago that interrupted service for one week. Fine, we can understand that. However, our mail has only delivered one more time since that storm. And now the delivery person claims the entire box is broken. We were instructed to call the HOA to get it fixed. Did that, HOA said they were getting the run around by the post office and no one can tell them exactly what is wrong with the box. My husband went and took a look and he can't see anything wrong with it. We have been forced to pick up our mail from the post office. And even they got some of our mail mixed in at our neighbors AGAIN. WHY is this so hard to get right?! HOA filed a complaint with the post master. If we had any other option I would never use the USPS ever again. I am now feeling like we are being gaslighted and harassed. This is completely insane. read more

I took a package to Wonder Lake and the clerk just gave it a glance and literally threw my package back at me. he said the address or something was missing a digit. Most the staff here act like DMV staff (unhappy & underpaid) minus a couple cool exceptions. This place needs more staff or to be upgraded because if you've got a package moving through here it'll take DAYS maybe even WEEKS longer than anticipated regardless of the shipping method. Plus they've missent multiple items to towns far away when I'm like ten minutes away. It's horrifying, this branch needs to get their sh*t together, period. read more

I've been to this location more than I'd like to admit, but each visit has been relatively painless and, depending on the time of day, I've been in and out quickly. My ONLY gripe is that lately USPS (in EVERY location I've been to) has had working automated machines after-hours, but lock their drop boxes! What they hey?! (And, really, please explain why I'd want to be able to PAY for postage but have to make a return trip to send the box?) So much for eBaying or sending packages at off-times.. read more

As long as I've lived here, going to the post office hasn't been a pleasant experience. I've definitely put off sending packages before just because I don't feel like wrestling with this USPS location. There is always a line of at least three people waiting to be helped. They only ever have two clerks at a time when there are five or six desks. And the clerks that they have aren't extremely efficient. Sometimes they'll chat with customers or disappear into the back for a couple of minutes while helping someone (I'm sure whatever they're doing back there is related to the transaction, but they certainly aren't hurried). I've had kind clerks and rude clerks, but the manager of this location is my least favorite to deal with. He's always been short with me and doesn't like to answer questions. When I went to get my passport renewed, I was told that I needed to make an appointment. I found this kind of silly as all I needed to do was turn in some paperwork, but I complied. When I showed up for my appointment time, they were running behind by 30 minutes. There is also no separate room for the passport procedure, so they take you at the desk like everyone else. It can get confusing, as there is only one line for the passport customers and the mail customers. They really should rethink the logistics of their passport renewal process. Basically, the service is meh and don't come here when you're in a rush! They do have a package machine in the front lobby that's open 24 hours a day, which is pretty convenient. read more

TERRIBLE!!! Sent two packages and one made it and one did not. Have spoken to a postal service in Florida who told me that I should file a claim as it is most likely lost. The person at McHenry was rude and uncaring. He is like it shows it in transit WHICH I was told once the package is scanned in it automatically generates a ticket out. I will NEVER us through post office again. This is horrible-horrible-horrible. Oh and I paid for 3 day shipping and he was like it is big guaranteed - well then don't make people pay for so many day shipping if you aren't going to honor it. McHenry post office has been nothing short of amazing!! I have a small home business and am at the post office just about every other day. They have been working throughout this entire pandemic and they have been nothing short of amazing! It's times like these we need to express our appreciation to these unsung heroes. It makes you really realize all they do for our country. If you can't see that then I'm sorry but you need your eyes checked! The abuse that I have heard their supervisors, clerks and mail carriers take is horrible yet day after day, there they are-reliable and trustworthy.. ready and prepared to take another beating. The United States Post office in McHenry city has the most miserable group of people that I've ever met in my life just completely unhappy with their life with their their job and who knows what else I came in and asked a simple question because I wasn't sure about a tracking issue and basically was told that the package was at my door maybe I should check there got home no package. read more

I cancelled a forwarding mail request when I realized my son forwarded his mail to another state after he moved and my mail was also going there (we have the same first and last name). I went into the mail office and did this and was told the forwarding was cancelled. Now 8 months later several packages were forwarded to that address and stolen. Now, I am told that it wasn't cancelled by postal employees. WTF! Previous to this my experience is that the post office sometimes delivered my mail to a similar address in a different part of town. I also received their mail sometimes including checks from the state. Im most upset about being told the forward was stopped and it wasn't! That is total incompetence! read more

I called the post office in McHenry last Friday because I was tacking a package I really needed that day but I had put the correct city but wrong zip code on the address label. So I knew it wasn't going to make it to me and possibly would be sent back to the place of origin. So I called the post office and spoke to Howard to see if he could find the package there since the zip code was on the label as McHenry. He put me on hold, he couldn't find it, then asked for more information about the package, put me on hold, and then came back and said he found it. Needless to say he went above and beyond to make my day! I was so happy that he held it for me and I drove there to get it. He is definitely an asset to the US post office and went above and beyond to help a customer out. I truly appreciated his help. read more

I would give a negative 10 if it was possible. It's as if they literally do not want to work. I've always heard government employees were lazy but this is beyond that. I had 100 flat envelopes to send for my company. A company that manufactures American made products and employs Americans. The woman acted as if I was completely putting her out by making her do her job!!! She had to be one of the rudest people ever, if she worked for me she would have been fired on the spot. The only saving grace was another woman took over for her and atleast she did her best to pretend to be slightly professional. I had first stopped at the Island Lake post office but their credit card machine was down. The woman there apologized and said she wished she could have done it because she would have liked the revenue. I will never return here.
