I was able to make an appointment online to renew my driver's license. When I arrived a few minutes early, I got in line to check in. The line moved quickly and I was checked in right on time. They gathered the information I brought to get a license with Real ID and I was handed a number and told to get in line for my photo. The line went very quickly. They took a photo (not too bad actually) and I was given a number and told to sit and wait until I was called. Literally five minutes after I sat down, my number was called. I had to do a vision test, which they administered. When done, I went to the cashier. Note, they charge a fee if you use a credit card. The renewal was inexpensive enough that I had cash to pay for it. They took my money and I was sent to check out. I walked right up with no wait and was given a temporary driver's license and was told I'd get my permanent one in the mail in five to ten days. Everyone I worked with was pleasant and friendly. Times have really changed. It was a good experience overall.

Let's address the unprofessional conduct of one of your officers arriving at a MVA yesterday…read moreevening at the intersection of Roosevelt road and President Street. I was on scene when the above accident occurred and immediately pulled into the gas station and was informed that emergency personnel were contacted. I then proceeded to help secure the scene until emergency personnel arrived and verifying their were no serious injuries involved. I pulled into the adjacent bank parking lot and went to the intersection and still observed no emergency personnel. I then assisted in clearing some of the waiting traffic at the intersection until I heard sirens of emergency personnel approaching from both the south, fire/ambulance and west police. I proceeded to stop all pending traffic in all directions because of emergency traffic approaching from multiple directions and didn't want any vehicles entering the intersection. After assuring police and fire/ambulance personnel got positioned. I moved myself out of the way when I was aggressively approached by a Wheaton police officer demanding i get off the street out of the investigation blah blah blah. I then got on the sidewalk and again he started getting aggressive with his demeanor with me telling me to leave even though I was definitely far enough and in no way interfering with his non investigating investigation as the injured parties were conversing with medical staff. As he was not happy with my location he ILLEGALLY RAN MY CAR PLATES THAT WERE PARKED IN A PRIVATE LOT. I was on private property now. 2 other officers came over and I spoke of my displeasure and his I feel gestapo tactics when I was out there on scene making sure him and all his emergency personnel got to the scene safely. Only reason for the 2 stars was the 2 other officers that spoke with me at my car otherwise it would be 0 stars.

These officers are special, the Palatine Police Department and Fire Department are truly behind…read moreevery citizen to protect and SERVE. I'm having a medical problem, I got real angry neighbors called the police. They gave me transport to my urgent care clinic and told me "911 isn't just for full on emergencies. It's also for things that can become an emergency if not rapidly treated. Treat it like you would the rapid response button in a hospital" They couldn't have an ambulance transport me to urgent care so they arranged for me to ride the back of their Ford Interceptor police cruiser which I found super cool! It was a very safe and comfortable transport. Plastic seats are plastic seats they're comparable to riding the CTA 'L'. In fact a bit more comfortable than the older CTA 'L' trains, so that's saying something. These cars are nice transports. so don't complain if officers offer you transport. These people are here to help and they are eager to help the needy and people with special needs. The officer was very nice and conversational in the car and had a good rock'n'roll station on the radio offering a nice backdrop to the journey. I wonder when Uber will add Uber: Black&White to the service tiers. Free for people in emergent need of medical transportation These officers and our fire and ambulance service deserve a trophy for what they do. Not only have they provided me service today that triggered this review. They've provided many helpful services in my history of living in Palatine, helping me track down and terminate noise issues in the neighborhood, to massive medical emergencies years ago including three near death events that if it weren't for the skilled and speedy EMS response and caring staff I would be dead. Their response rate is extremely fast. When you call for an ambulance it's there in a minute or two tops. When you call for non ambulance medical assist they're there the same speed. We had a power line catch fire at our old residence, the fire department was fast to respond, about two minutes and a pumper and hook and ladder were there. Back then I was a little child so I was super scared. The fire department firefighters were extremely calming and reassuring after extinguishing the fire and shutting down the utility, they also helped me handle calling the utility company to get our service restored after the line was repaired. I don't understand why people are trashing the police department and fire department, these people are true servants of the public and they deserve recognition for their service to us.
