Careful Sending to or from this office I had an important package that was marked as delivered but never arrived. After several phone calls and Wasted time they were able to retrieve that package and it had not only been delivered to the wrong house but it had been opened up! read more

Not good. Sent an envelope from this post office to my accountant (who has had the same address for years)...it came back ten days later undeliverable although the address is correct (verified it with the addressee and online) and printed by a printer (so it's not a handwriting issue). The tracking number given on the receipt is not identified by the USPS website. I won't trust this post office with my outgoing mail again. Did it actually even get mailed or was it just sent back to me? The business in question assures me that it is getting mail from its other clients. If you use the general post office phone number for help with a problem you are on hold indefinitely. If you call the Island Lake Post Office directly the phone rings and rings for about five minutes and then hangs up on you. How is a customer supposed to get assistance? read more

Always a pleasant experience going there in the past, but recently a new employee there, African American woman, and she could not be any more rude or unfriendly if she tried. Is it the goal of the post office to actually make people avoid going there at all costs? Lost my business, will be going to Wauconda PO from now on, where they have always been friendly and do not treat you as an inconvenience as this hostile person does, and hopefully will not follow suit and hire a hostile individual such as this one. read more

The people that work at this post office should be ashamed of themselves. They epitomize the stereotype of lazy, unhelpful, government employee. I live in Island Lake and went to mail a package to a friend in New Jersey. She was in the very late stages of cancer and I was sending her a care package. Because I needed a Flat Rate Priority box, I brought in all the items I was shipping her to the post office, and assembled it there. When I got to the counter to pay for postage, I politely asked the worker if I could just use some tape to seal up the box. He refused to give me any tape. I couldn't believe it. I actually said to him, "Really? I just need a piece of tape; the package is all ready to go after I pay for the postage." He again refused saying they do not provide tape. He also refused to allow me to pay for the postage at that time -- I was thinking I could pay for postage, and then I would only have to drop the package off after I was able to seal it. Because of his singular unhelpful attitude, I had no choice but to take the package back home with me, seal it up there, and return to the post office the next day to pay for postage (I did not have time to come back the same day). My friend that I was shipping the package to died the next day. Because of this jackass at the post office, she didn't receive my package before she passed away. If I had been able to mail it the original day I went in, she would have received it. So, miserable post office worker, I hope you are happy. Because of your refusal to allow me to use A PIECE OF TAPE, my dear friend died before receiving a package that might have brightened her spirits a bit. I know she knew I loved & cared about her, but I was beyond upset. The kicker? My husband -- who worked in shipping & receiving at a company for several years -- informed me when I told him this that there is special Priority tape the post office has that they are supposed to let you use when you are shipping something Priority mail. Super slow post office. If you want your packages to sit there for 4-5 days before they even arrive at Elk Grove distribution, then, by all means drop them off here!!! I guess they just throw them in a pile in back and forget about them? Couple of slow-moving clerks walk out of the back room like they're hiding back there, eating their lunch or doing nothing. Horrid. Mr. Han, who was mentioned in several negative reviews here refused to accept the package, claiming its oversized. Didn't even measure it. When I told him that this very package in this very box was delivered to me by USPS he said that he doesn't care. I asked him for the number of the post master, he asked me "Do you want to get me into trouble? Good luck with that, nobody can get me into trouble". He gave me wrong number. When I came back and asked for real number he refused to give it to me, telling me that I should call the 800 number. When the number and name of manager was given to me at the other post office and I called, Han picked up the phone, and as soon as I asked for Carol Woosh he hung up. Apparently, the post master on this office, Ms. Carol Woosh is NOT reading the reviews and does NOT care about the reputation of the office, as Mr. Han still works there, even though his name was mentioned personally in half of the negative reviews for this office. Awful office, horrid customer service, rude, condescending arrogant workers When an employee tells you "Good luck getting me into trouble, you can't nobody can", you know that this office is managed very very incompetently. read more

Island Lake PO employees are back to the same old crap. Yesterday my neighbor brought my mail to me because it was in his mailbox. Today I received the mail of another neighbor and no mail for my home,. The PO put our name inside the mailbox so they would not mistake the mail again. I guess you do not have to be able to read to be a post carrier. This has been going on for about 10 years now. Any ideas how to get them to deliver the mail properly? read more

I don't understand why the post office can not deliver the mail to the correct house. I get mail for other addresses 2 to 3 times a week!! the lady down the street, who I deliver mail to on a regular basis, thinks I should be paid by the post office. I also get mail for addresses on other streets. This is not new to me. I have lived at the same address for over 13 years and this has been happening from the day I moved in. I can only wonder where my mail goes, and hope no one can steal my identity from receiving my important mail, do to the incompetence of our postal service. Not long ago I mailed 6 envelopes Inside at Island Lake, only 5 were received and 1 was lost. I received that lost envelope back about 6 weeks later shredded with only the corner with the return address attached. Another incident....my daughter moved and put in a change of address. To my surprise they delivered my mail to her new address. Here is the thing, we do not have the same last name so I checked with the post master to stop my mail from going to her house. She. the postmaster, could not tell me why this was happening and told me there was nothing she could do about it because the paperwork was filed correctly from the start. WHAT??? There have been so many mistakes made by this Post Office on a regular basis, I really can not remember them all. Needless to say I no longer do any business with them. All I can say is good luck to the good people of Island Lake! You may want to consider a PO box in a different town!!! read more
