New solar on new roof!
Amanda I.

We used United Better Homes to install a new roof and solar panels and I can't say enough good things about this company!!! I was not in the market for solar (my husband was all for it) & to pacify him I had entertained a quote. I still was a "no" & thought his solar dreams were over. Then UBH put solar on our neighbor's house & wanted to talk to us about installing solar. I agreed and was SO glad that I did!!! Solar Steve from UBH came and thoroughly explained exactly how going solar works & both the benefits and the limitations of solar. He spent a lot of time with us & was so straightforward, honest & easy to understand. He answered all of my questions and pacified all of my concerns and when he left there was no pressure at all to commit. We thought about it and when Steve came back a week later with a quote we were both all in!!! Once our project began (within a couple of days) we felt like we became part of a family. I have never dealt with a company that had such great, constant communication & such friendly team members!! UBH did everything (setting up inspections, permits, etc)- it was so easy!!! They constantly kept us abreast of the progression of our project. I also could call them at any time of the day and someone from the team would answer or call me back with the answer to my question. Just talking to/dealing with this company was enough to have me recommend them to anyone 1000 times over! And then there was the work!!! Next level!!! The roofers arrived and worked tirelessly. It took them all day to do our roof due to the steep pitches. They worked nonstop and it came out absolutely beautiful. And then, when they left, they left not even a nail behind! If it weren't for our new flashy roof you would never even have known that they were there! Then a week later our solar was installed. Another outstanding, amazingly beautiful job!! The solar panels look so good (a big concern of mine). They are flat, thin and dark and actually look pretty sharp!! And again, as seems to be standard with this company, both the roof and solar installers were SO NICE!!! I am so happy that I gave UBH a chance. My husband & I are both super happy with our roof & solar project & would definitely recommend UBH to anyone!

Here are some before and during and after of the project United better homes worked on. This is the after picture.

I called this company over 3 weeks ago for a quote and never heard back from them. I also filled out the online contact form, and nothing.

I cannot express how thrilled I am that I found Chris and Stergis supply. I need railings on both…read moremy front and side doors, shutters and a front door. Chris came over measured and installed everything himself. He answered every question quickly and was extremely responsible (in addition to being so very nice). The work he did truly did transform my home. If you are looking into hiring this company, I would say don't look any further, you found the only solution.

A year and a half ago, Chris Stergis and I made a simple handshake, man-to-man agreement. He would…read morerent us the space behind his building so my wife, our Siberian husky, and I could live in our 17-foot camper for a fair monthly price. No contracts, no complications, just a parking spot and a little corner of his warehouse. Nothing else. That was the deal. We were desperate. Almost no one would rent to us because of our dog's breed, even though she is well trained. This arrangement let us stay loyal to her. It felt like a no-brainer. Day 1 we moved in. The first thing Chris did was break the agreement by turning the small corner into a full garage. Then he commented that he did not want to see us "rocking the camper" on the security cameras at night. Not a good sign, but we still had our dog, so we stayed quiet. Before we arrived I had asked him clearly to treat us like regular people, no special treatment. On Day 2 he showed up with two camping chairs and a massive tent. I asked if he bought them with the rent money we had just paid. He said yes, that he did not need the money. That stung; we were broke. He then offered water and electricity. I agreed to both at a fair price. Day 3 brought more. He arrived with laundry machines, a microwave, and a refrigerator. I told him straight out to stop we did not need or want any of it. I managed to refuse the laundry and microwave, but he pushed the fridge anyway. It sat unused in the garage. Everything felt increasingly uncomfortable because none of this was part of the original deal. We only wanted to be treated as normal tenants, not as his personal charity case. Then came the food invitations. Coming from poverty, I rarely turn food away. After the pattern of unwanted favors, I began declining. The line was crossed when he bought food for me, I accepted it intending to give it to a nearby homeless woman, and he got angry, saying he had gotten it for me, implying not for her. He also started bringing our mail. At first I did not mind; later I asked him to stop and he refused. One day neighbors said good morning. I mentioned it to Chris. He became upset and told me not to be friendly with them because of something they had done to him. I answered that they had done nothing to me, so I would not treat them that way. Months in, he told me I did not have to worry about being kicked out for four years, until he planned to retire or sell. Over time his comments revealed more. After a neighbor's house burned, he criticized the single mother with kids for losing the home by not paying the bank. I told him he did not know their situation and that not everyone has his resources. He also criticized his own friend and tenant Wayne for still needing to work another ten years to retire, adding that this meant Wayne had "no money." He once said we "deserved some luxury" and should not just stay there working and walking the dog. We were trying to save money. I began wondering what we had gotten into. A month later he appeared with a formal lease, asking me to sign after we had agreed on no contracts. I refused. He said okay and left, but I knew he would return. He kept creating unnecessary situations. Still, we stayed for the dog. One day he mowed without noticing our vehicle and chipped the windshield with debris. I said nothing. The one request I made was that he keep his own dog Max's water bowl full. For over a year I saw it nearly empty and asked him to fill it. He argued as if it were a contest. One morning I reminded him politely; he mocked me. I posted a review mentioning it. When he printed the review he made a loud public scene, which gave it more attention than the site ever had (it had zero views at the time of deletion). He shut off our electricity, denied us entry, and threatened eviction until I removed it. I did. We never missed a payment until the final two months, and only because he refused to accept the money, giving him another excuse. He evicted us anyway. Now the eviction record makes renting an apartment nearly impossible. Three months in he had already threatened eviction over a text. I'll leave it to people to decide what kind of person he is.

I was feely mighty ambitious and thrifty when I called Krystal Glass to ask for a consultation regarding a big mirror project at my new dance studio. Jimmy made time to meet me at one location and to accompany me to two more nearby locations on the same visit. Together, we checked out several used 6 x 8 mirrors at a nearby gym, looked at a few other mirrors I had in storage, and did a recon trip of the mirrors' final destination. Along the way, Jimmy provided the information that I needed about the correct tools for moving and installing the mirrors myself with a friend. (I should have brought two friends and insisted upon paying them). He also consulted with me, my contractor friend and the building GC about the best way to build secure and attractive frames for the mirrors. After we completed the framing and moved a couple of the mirrors on our own, I wound up asking Jimmy to help procure, move and install the rest of the mirrors onto the frames. Jimmy and his team handled my many requests promptly, with kindness, patience and professionalism. I will be back with any and all of my glass needs and I will also be providing referrals. Thanks to Jimmy's input, we put together something amazing. Behold!

Venture Window - Steel siding

Venture Window

I am writing this review based on the quoting and sales/purchasing process, as I have not yet…read morereceived the windows I purchased, or had them installed yet. I will absolutely plan to update this review through the lifetime of the project and my windows, which I am very excited for. When you buy something you usually know instantly if you have nervous feelings (second guesses) about your decision, or if you made the right one. Right now I can confidently say I feel like I made the right one, and in actuality should have made my decision sooner. So far I have nothing but good things to say about Venture Window. The quoting process has been very straightforward, and easier than other companies I tried to get quotes through. My sales person, Scott, has been professional, honest, courteous, and dependable from the start. I have gotten other quotes from other companies and found them to be overly salesy (and some of them quoting insane prices) but Venture Window, and Scott, pretty much tell it like it is with no sugarcoating. Venture Window also had extremely competitive pricing for the tier/range of window that I wanted (mid tier). Venture Window is different from other window companies because I felt like they were the most human, and I can say I interacted with a lot of companies before making this important decision. I felt like Venture, represented by Scott, was empathetic to the reasons for my purchasing a window and more importantly to my budget. Rather than getting a one-size-fits-all glammed up sales pitch complete with a free pen and keychain, I instead got a professional conversation, two-way dialog, and some honest and valuable education on windows, to meet the specific needs I was looking to solve for (energy efficient and budget-friendly) which totally demonstrates the caliber of the staff. Another word to describe Scott is patient, which created a sense of ease in the purchasing process. There was not a moment that I felt rushed through the entire purchasing experience, and my purchasing decision probably took longer than most people. I had a chance to visit the showroom before my final purchase decision to physically compare the windows. There is quite a huge selection from to the most basic/budget-friendly window, up to the most premium cadillac of windows. They had a lot of unique windows like skylights and the fancier natural wooden ones. It was really valuable for me to see the windows in person to be able to see how they open, tilt inward, the locking mechanisms, and the construction, to see the differences in the windows that I had the options of choosing. There is only so much you can understand from a brochure. In the showroom, Scott explained the subtle differences between the windows (things you can see, as well as things you cannot), as well as how the windows I was considering differed from the most budget-friendly option, for comparison sake. This was a good learning experience because it shows that in many ways the statement 'you get what you pay for' is so true, while in other ways, any new window will be better than my current 110-year-old, super drafty and rickety windows. For example, did you know ALL windows must be manufactured to a certain minimum quality standard? I did not know this before working with Venture. I was glad to visit the showroom because I could see that for the price, the option I selected is of good quality. In fact they seem more durable and sturdy than a lot of windows in places I've lived before, or the windows in friends/family members' houses. Once I literally felt the quality and construction of the window, I could tell that I was making the right decision. If you care about your crazy heat bills and are wanting to some modernity, like me, you can't go wrong with Venture. I'm very much looking forward to getting these windows installed and the added comfort and energy efficiency that will come along with them. Will definitely update this review after installation.

During the process we mentioned many times with phone calls, and text the inconsistency of the job their crew was doing. The "project manager" would show up for 5 minutes and leave. In my opinion he has no hands on siding experience at all. We asked for meetings to go over what was going wrong with this job, and we were always stood up, no communication. The crew would work after 5pm in the dark to get the job done. I don't think they knew any of their crew that was subbed out. They came in a van from MA. we were left with a disaster siding job, as other contractors put it totally incompetent. Here are some of the problems we were left with. They did come back to try and fix a few things, but what they fixed was still not fixed such as some siding above the front window that now has a buckle in it. 11 torn screens, a broken boat trailer light, gutters dented and put back on incorrectly. We now have to replace them due to the damage removing them., A back door they put on that does not close, our new deck was chipped, and scratched, also they put screwed blocks into the deck to hold their ladders, AC unit covers incorrectly attached, broken and cracked they need to be replaced, they took it upon themselves to change the architect arch on our garage to a square opening and did not ask, electrical wires screwed onto the roof, caulking to glue together siding on the shed, shed door attached with a big space at the top, finish work on the shed is a disaster. This is a lot, but I can back it up with pictures. The owner came over after the job was done, and all our complaints, and said it looked good. I don't believe he has any experience himself with siding. We went to the town hall to check if they pulled a building permit, and they did not. They told us they did.
