I appreciated the flight detail confirmation text and email leading up to my flight with United Airlines back to Chicago Illinois. The confirmations not only reminded me of the actual time of my flight, but when I could check-in, as well as delays and gate changes. Three days before my outbound flight back to Chicago, I was informed via text message that my flight had been canceled due to FAA-mandated airspace restrictions during the government shutdown. I reacted immediately, booking a new flight which ended up being an earlier time than the previous. It is situations like that where I appreciate updates because I would not have wanted to find out the day of. Now rather than download the United Airlines mobile application, I visited www.united.com where I was able to check-in for my flight early, as well as send my boarding pass to my phone via text in the process. As someone who had just a carry-on bag with me, it allowed me to head straight to TSA rather than to see a United Airlines agent once I arrived at Indianapolis International Airport. As for my airport experience, TSA was not crowded at all despite it being Indianapolis International Airport. I always dread going through security because of the possibility of congested lines, but all went smoothly! The only things I removed from my body were my jacket, and my bracelets placing each item inside either the bin, or my jacket pocket. After that, I was well on my way to locate the gate. The United Airlines gate was easy to find, thanks to posted signage within the terminal; the gate appeared professional with a very well-maintained seating area in comparison to other airlines I have flown out of. I rarely encounter boarding areas with clean seats and no trash left behind, which is just hard to unsee. I loved that there were charging outlets that worked because it gave me the chance to charge my cell phone before boarding my flight back to Chicago. Whether it be the individual booths or the workstations, I was grateful to see so many areas and seats with charging outlets. Boarding with this airline was very painless! Announcements were made which gave me the time to browse around the terminal prior to the time my boarding group boarded. It was by far one of the best boarding experiences I have ever had out of my many times of flying. I feared that my flight back to Chicago would be delayed, but thankfully it was not. With having to change my flight 3 days ago, I was very concerned and glad that it did not happen. As for the airplane interior, I loved that the seat was spacious enough to where I could adjust myself while seated. I had an acceptable amount of foot space to where my military-style backpack could fit underneath the seat in front of me. There were no charging outlets within my seat, but thankfully I was able to charge my phone prior to boarding the airplane. While onboard the flight, I got some rest during this short flight back to Chicago, which I am grateful for. Onboard, the only communication I had with the flight attendants was the boarding flight hello, and the airplane departure "thank you" and "goodbye" greeting. In closing, I am very open to choosing and recommending United Airlines to a friend, relative or colleague after this experience. The airline attendant was collecting trash. My husband was handing her all of his trash and she very rudely commented to not give her all the trash at once. It was her job to take it but by bit. He was just handing it to her. She dropped some of it and said very rudely this time that that is why you don't hand me all of your trash at once. She was a very nasty person. Indy's United staff are great. Check in is easy and convenient, gates are easy to access with amenities aplenty, and there are lots of great food options. As far as airlines go, United is as good as it gets. I fly 200+ flights a year on an array of international airlines, and while they all have issues from time to time, United offers the most reliable service and accessibility when things go awry. read more

Check in and gate agents were all helpful. The flight in was delayed but return flight was on time. Considering this is allegedly United's worst on time route I felt this was a minor victory. Gate area could use more charging areas as they are limited. read more

By far the WORST customer experience I have ever encountered. Canceled my flight and rebooked me on one more than 12 hours different. Customer "Care" only has operating hours for what seems like a 3 hour window. No phone number to call them directly ???? Customer "Service" tried their best but had no authority and apparently absolutely NO way to transfer you to Customer Care, which would process a refund. Absolutely absurd. Whatever money you save by flying United isn't worth it. Can't stress this enough. Never flying again. read more

My flight from Indianapolis to Washington Dulles went surprisingly well. My flight was the first flight in the morning so everyone was helpful. We boarded and departed on time. United offered a free non-alcoholic beverage and small snack. read more

Communications to passengers & customer service representatives of United Various airport, Newark, Dulles, & Indianapolis is ABYSMAL! Arrival / departure boards not being updated on flights out of Newark to London 3hours late. Level of communication of agents was good if it were being fed TO THEM by United, however, it wasn't. Lufthansa ---was compensated 50euros for loss of luggage, until Monday's return, 1 item of clothing$ 49Euros. Star Alliance did give out PeterThomasRoth toiletries & sundries $$$$$$$$. read more

Hands down pick.. ANY other airline. I've never had the issues I've had today with any other airline. & I fly yearly. First off take off and landing took an abnormally long amount of time. And then I got off my plane with two babies and our stroller wasn't ready. Not to mention we landed with 30 minutes to get to our connecting flight and we landed at terminal C and our next flight was at F.. so needless to say once waiting 15 minutes to receive our stroller and running across the airport having to take 2 elevators on the way we made it there 1 minute late and the lady said sorry go see customer service.. we get to customer service and "Ana" and her partner and crime whoever was on shift with her at 1pm on December 23rd 2018, were super rude. Told us it was our fault for picking the flight, I mean they're not wrong I won't ever fly United again and I'll make sure everyone I know doesn't either. They were super disrespectful and unprofessional, didn't apologize or compensate us in any way. If United spent as much money hiring new staff as they do on their cheesy commercials about how "great" their customer service is maybe they would actually have good customer service that speaks for its self. This airline is full of it. My daughter's ticket was paid for, as well as her bag! Someone help me understand why they're trying to make her REPAY for her bag! Although her receipt shows it's paid for but their system doesn't, for whatever reason! Then had the nerve to tell her that her purse has to go in her bag, not as a personal item, which is allowed! "United, we don't have to care about you and know it". 1) my flight home was cancelled and I was informed 9 minutes after a southwest flight departed to the same destination 2) United refused to comp my hotel while simultaneously offering other passengers at a different flight $800 credit and a free hotel to volunteer to not take a flight due to overbooking. I was informed that this was because of weather and not their fault so they didn't have to pay. Strangely, southwest was able to fly to the same destination without weather issues. 3) upon arrival the next morning a carry on bag that worked in the last four flights over the last few days with them was suddenly too big and I was asked, rudely, to pay them $25 dollars plane side to check my bag. 4) No coffee on the 6am flight. 5) total additional expenses due to United = $105. How much they cared or helped or even showed a modicum of empathy or professional customer service = 0. I will go out of my way to avoid this airline in the future whenever humanly possible. read more

United not so friendly: I grew up with United. Just joined all their special clubs not that I'm flying to and from Mexico more. Three trips in two months. 1. Plane late 2. Plane late 3.Gates changed but flight boards not updated until I got to the gate. Agent told me it was changed a 1/2 hour prior. 4.Here's a laugh. No electricity under the seat receptacles and they told me the power did not flow that far back when the front of the ship had demand. That's scary! 5. No crew to fly the ship. lost $100s on the end of the trip. They apologized and offered me $150 certificate to spend more money with them again. I DON"T THINK SO. Airline personnel should be more aware of the carry ons that travelers bring on board! The sizes of the luggage being brought on board were clearly not "carry on" size and thus affected the rest of us who had carry on items. Thankfully my carry on item fits underneath the seat. But the rest of the passengers had to check in their luggage. As we arrived in Indianapolis, the ramp was not ready for our arrival. It took 30 additional minutes for them to set up the ramp. The car rental company had closed by the time I got my luggage. Smh. read more

Not at all surprised to see the reviews here. What terrible terrible customer service. I understand a flight being diverted, cancelled or late.... But there is absolutely no excuse for the customer service or how things were handled. To make a long story short things were so so bad we decided to drive to our destination rather than continue to deal with the incompetent, rude and unbearable employees. Save yourself the hassle and fly with a different airline. I will say that there are few and I emphasize few employees who went above and beyond and I certainly hope United compensates them well, because without those few, this airline would certainly not make it. read more

I can't rate it ZERO STARS unfortunately. They have to be among the worst airlines out there. They made my 80 year old mother LEAVE HER CARRY ON at the airport because she had one extra one while other passengers went gingerly ahead with bigger than authorized carry-ons, made her pay $300 extra luggage because she had already checked 2 suitcases. I explained she had been here 8 months but who cares? NOT THE FRIENDLY SKIES. What a crock. Whether domestic or international, I will take a bunch of stops before I fly United again. I have never experienced such poor, abrasive and unprofessional customer service anywhere. The United Airlines representative with whom I spoke at the ticketing desk refused to help me with my ticket. When I called to speak to someone else over the phone, they were immediately helpful. There was no one waiting in line behind me in Indianapolis, so it was apparent that this woman was simply choosing to be unhelpful. Aside from an expensive mix-up, granted, during a busy travel time, the Indianapolis desk made my trip a complete nightmare. I booked my flight for Thanksgiving, rebooked, and am still waiting for the $100 refund they owe me. I travel all over the world as part of my job. This includes some very out of the way places. Even so, I have never, in any one of these destinations, had a worse experience than I had here. I will never book business trips through United again. Truly abysmal. read more

Very disappointed with the overall attitude of the people working in the ticket and baggage check in. Amanda T. Was one of the most rude people I have ever encountered. When asked a simple question she acted as though I wasn't even there and walked away while saying something like "it works just figure it out". I have always sung the praises of United Airlines, having been a Mileage Plus member for several decades; however, today they are cheating me out of several hundred dollars. I booked flights on May 9 and found out I had to cancel my trip. They've issued me a credit toward a future flight, but are charging me $200 to apply that credit. Flights to Chicago and Denver are constantly delayed probably because these tiny planes are easily affected by weather conditions. Either way sometimes it's hard to get out of Indianapolis if you're flying United. read more

We had reserved business class tickets to Tokyo from Indy. Not a cheap ticket, but the itinerary worked. At the last minute, they changed a flight that nulled the itinerary, not allowing us to make the connection in Chicago. My husband drove to the airport to attempt to fix with a ticket agent--she was too busy, and told us to sort it out after we buy the ticket (about a $10K investment). After waiting 60 minutes on hold with United customer service, I guess they are telling us to take our business elsewhere..as should you.. read more

Oh my the worst yet.. seats were sticky and dirty then all the plane changes are not necessary...the attendant in airport was rude. After 4 tries we finally shipped our dog across the county. I appreciate the fact that they have online instructions, but they are misleading. We have a 42 pounds 24 inch tall dog. Those requirements on the wall at the counter stated a cage that is 1 inch above their ears would work.Their instructions suck, their website stated that a cage 2 inch taller than the dog standing upright which is what we had, but we were rejected. The cage we got was for a large dog weighing 75-120 pounds. Take your dog put his or her noise as high as you can and if that touches the cage is too small. The employee could not find the place in the manual that quoted his (or those) requirements. He made up what he wanted to so he didn't have to service us. Update, on the return trip the second cage I purchased is for a greyhound 90-140 pound dog and was the perfect size. The age on the certificate of veterinary inspection did not specify years therefore our dog was rejected a second day. The third time the flight was canceled. So after 4 trips and 2 weeks the dog finally made the trip. I am glad I dont have to ship pets on a regular basis... read more

Flight delayed. Plane arrived two hours late. Plane boarded. Plane had mechanical issue. Plane de-boarded. Maintenance contractor must be called to diagnose the problem. Proper diagnosis will allow "estimate" for what time we will depart. For clarity, understand that the term "time" in the United operations manual is used to represent approximate month of departure rather than a given day and hour. Connection in Houston will be missed. United, I want you to know I am neither angry not the slightest bit upset. You see, I've flown United in the past, and therefore I only book tickets with your airline under duress or when no other options are available. When I purchase a ticket with United, I count on multiple delays and hassles, and therefore, I've mentally prepared prior to airport arrival for what I know will become a day (or week) from hell. It's a little like prison or doing your taxes; you know it will be a grueling and hellish experience no matter what, but you bite down on a leather strap and endure as best you can. Cheers for never failing to meet my expectations! Consistent dependability in the airline industry is a title coveted by many by achieved by few. You think I can consistently depend on Southwest to always deliver a rectum-rupturing travel experience so brutal that it leaves me clenching towels between my cheeks to slow the blood loss? Will never fly United. We had a serious family emergency occur. They told us we could transfer for a $400 fee. When we appealed them about the emergency they said we could file to get transfer fee returned with a bunch of proof of emergency, but we first had to book a flight and pay the transfer fee. Only after we paid the fee would they then review the circumstance to see if we could be refunded the fee. They could care less about anything but profits, even though now we'll never fly United nor will anyone in our network. read more

I would give them zero star if there was such an option. I had to fly from US to France and my flight was overbooked. Since I had checked in a little late they called me and asked me to volunteer by sending me on an earlier flight. I refused because I had someone to pick me up from my final destination and didn't want to mess up with schedule. The lady kept arguing me for more than 15 minutes trying to convince me to change until I got really frustrated and asked her to speak to her supervisor. She finally gave up and let me in. I had the same experience on the returning flight and the flight was delayed for an hour until they were able to find 4 volunteers. I told my company and they advised not to use them again because of the potential damage that my cause on the trip purpose. I took a decision with my entire family not to use them again. what would be worse than splitting people form their families, or messing up with their schedule because of that stupid overbooking policy..I 'm glad I didnt get dragged on the floor by security forces like that poor guy.. read more
