    Took a flight from Milan to Chicago 5/22. The steward caught a glimpse of me quietly crying as I looked at the clouds. He approached me after the plane took off and sat next to me and asked if I was alright. I shared I was returning home and about to celebrate a birthday without my dad for the first time, whom I shared a birthday with and lost recently. He later returned with a beautiful birthday pastry. The big things we remember are small moments of compassion and connection.

    This is the space in front of the seat that I paid for where all the white people were coming to stretch. But black people are not allowed

    Part1 of2 My nightmare began as I entered Terminal C to board flight UA2043. I didn't know where quick bag check was. I waved to JAIME. His eye caught me as he stood doing nothing. I had 3 LARGE SUITCASES, A CARRY ON AND A BACK PACK hoping he would walk the ONE yard to hear me. He wouldn't MOVE. He yelled, " Yeah what you want? " I spoke, " Where is quick bag check please"? Huh? He responded as he reluctantly walked 5 inches closer. I REPEATED 4 times as he would not move After the fifth time he FINALLY walked near enough to hear. He responded with a pointed finger ,nothing specific. When I asked, he responded with a question. I'd had ENOUGH as I knew my flight was boarding soon. Off to bag check I went to be BARELY cared for by a big mean looking black woman with long orange braids!! She walks over to the counter, says ABSOLUTELY NOTHING and starts taking my luggage and THROWING IT ON THE BELT LIKE ITS GARBAGE, SOME OF IT LANDING ON ITS SIDE, UPSIDEDOWN. WHATEVER...SERIOUSLY??? I headed to wheelchair assistance where I meet Andrea, bossy, quick talking west Indian with NO friendly customer service manner AT ALL!! A blank mean stare was her greeting along with a bland hi. She requested my boarding pass which I held up on my phone. I have a weak immune system.I prefer not to have my belongings touched by dirty hands. She reached for my phone without ASKING. I pulled my phone away as I didn't want the contact and knew she could do a touch less scan. I requested one. She rattled her quick tongue with plenty to say about the request. I asked how long before a pick up will happen as by that time my flight was boarding in 40 minutes. She saw my departure time and said, " Up to 30 minutes! " I said nothing and waited. In about 20 minutes, she asked to see my boarding pass a SECOND TIMEas if she hadn't scanned it in already. I asked if something was wrong, as of course I was worried about it. SHE IGNOREDME AND CONTINUED SPEAKING WITH JAMES, THE escort who'd just brought a chair. I repeated my question. She responded, Yeah, I'm telling him to take you!! I took a seat in his chair. I loaded all my bags on my lap. As James was a about to take off, she tried to stop him stating two other people had to go to Terminal 2. Jane's seemed confused about why she was trying to change his route after taking. I spoke up expressing concern as i.knew at this point she was deliberately being insensitive to the time I had left. She changed her decision AGAIN releasing him. It was BAIT to upset me for sport. Is this what United Airlines stands for? James wisked me away to my gate bearing the brunt of how upset I was. I could do nothing but calm down and beg his apologies and a positive review on his post delivery feedback He deserved it. As I looked around at the gate I'd finally arrived to, I dared to quietly sigh relief. All that was left was to board. Our flight was FULL !! I was so exhausted. I chose to hang back and be among the last as I hung near the final checkpoint. There I could hear Pauline G speaking with each person asking for boarding passes. Once they approached, she scanned thier phones,said NOTHING more and let them pass. She let them move on to the plane. I breathed my sigh of relief too soon.When it was my turn, Pauline G took one look at my black skin, and let me have it. Boarding pass please" My weary arm held up the pass on my phone. Though I'd hoped for equal treatment, that was NOT going to happen. As I continued to HOLD the phone up because she REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE she didn't need it anymore. She launched into phase 2 of her HARASSMENT TECHNIQUES RESERVED FOR BLACK PEOPLE. She exclaimed, "You know your going to have to store your CARRY ON BAG, MS. " I responded, Why am I getting special instructions when you said NOTHING about that to last 40 people who boarded, ALL carrying 2 bags? She started raising her voice," I HAVE TO DO MY JOB, I HAVE TO DO MY JOB !! while simultaneously smirking and looked at a WHITE onlookers seeking non verbal.support for her aggregously BIGGOTED behavior. I hoped in vain this nightmare would end. As our scheduled 5 hour flight turned into a 7.5 hour flight due to high winds. The cabin was stir crazy as people began walking around, looking for any space to stretch thier legs, bend over and relive sore muscles. I had seat 42K. That is the exit isle. After hour number 5, I was in need of a stretch too. I have 3 herniated disks in my back and two in my neck. Why did I think I would have the same privilege? As I stood in the IDENTICAL spot the WHITE customers stood to stretch my BLACK MUSCLES,the rules SUDDENLY CHANGED. TAYLOR, a lead stewardess confronted me as though I was going to take the plane down. I WAS LEANING ON THE HANDLE NEXT TO THE DOOR. WHERE MY SEAT WAS. She ran up to me like I was a hardened criminal and said, " PLEASE DONT TOUCH THE DOOR! I told her I was not touching the door, but i complied. -see part2

    Just wanted to be the 9th Yelp profile to leave more than 1 star on here. Flight is on time. Price was right. No one sitting next to me. Life is good.

    Horrible service this is the closest you can get to hell stay away from this airline 3rd world country airfare better than this guys

I will try to mix this review as both the company as a whole, and the Burbank location, as I had a much better experience with the location in Arcata, CA. Firstly, the price. Man oh man, there is absolutely no better price for an airline ticket that I have experienced since. I believe I had a $15 round-trip ticket from Burbank to McKinleyville and back once. That alone would give them a 5 star, no questions asked. And if I had reviewed them directly after my first few flights, this would be 5 stars. Let me get to the negatives, and circle back to the positives. My main concern was my most-recent visit to the Burbank location, and obviously the last one I will ever do because they closed (I even had a ticket to use that they cancelled on my with no warning but that's a separate issue). Active-duty military get two free checked bags. At the time I was active-duty, and this wasn't my first time using my military ID with them, and the other few times went off without any hitch whatsoever. But this time, the lady at the checked bag area said that my ID said an incorrect birthday. To her credit, the DOB is printed in black, and it overlays the black and white photo of me on it, so it's hard to see. She confused the 5 in "1995" for a 6, and said that my ID is invalid. I told her if she looked harder it is obviously a 5, but she accused me of essentially having confirmation bias and only seeing a 5 because I want there to be a 5. It's a government issued ID I was using for years to that point to get onto literal military bases. She then said I had to pay for my luggage. The problem with that is she is essentially accusing me of having a fake ID, military no-less. That's a federal crime, so if she truly believed that, she should have called the police. But instead it was just grounds for not wanting to give me a bag check. The ironic part of the "confirmation bias" is funny because she would ask a coworker and instead of saying, "what number do you think this is?" She would instead ask "This looks like a 6, right?" What coworker would say anything other than yes? After asking to see someone higher up (probably the only time I have ever done that in my life actually), one eventually came and saw me, told me my ID was good, gave me a checked bag, and just recommended I asked to military to issue me a new ID with a more clear 5. They never did because it was obviously a 5 and that would count as wasting time. I was worried the entire trip about the checked bags for the plane ride home, but it went off literally without a hitch. I guess that happens when people can tell the difference between a 5 and a 6. My last point that I want to bring up is that I had one more round-trip planned with them, but the cleared out of the West Coast way earlier than they said they would. That meant they gave me a flight credit of roughly $100 for an airline I could never use again. It took me many back-and-forths with the customer support team to finally get that money back not as a credit, but they eventually did it. So mainly, this airline was mostly pretty good, but gave me one very sour experience where they implied that I was some criminal, but not only criminal enough to not give something they said they would. That experience was a one star, most of the experiences are in the 4-5 star range, but the dishonest early closing brings them down to a 3, which I would argue should be a 2 but like I said, I got a $15 round trip once.     So not every airport trip involves waiting for security, that anxious moment where you wait for…read moreyour luggage etc, the indifferent service, bad food etc. For the 1% it's private aviation terminals and little in the way of lines. My complete and utter failure to win the lottery has me watching these oh so lucky travelers with quite a bit of envy. They roll up in the Escalade, and walk ten feet or so into a private aircraft (most often the assistant (s) has delivered the luggage) the plane buttons up and roars off to no doubt an exotic location where more luxuriating occurs (at least that's the way I imagine it). For those of us in the medical transport game, these private terminals are where we get fuel and meet our ambulance to head off to the referring hospital. Some are spartan affairs offering a clean bathroom, some hard candy, or fresh baked cookies. Other are quite big and decked out In the case of our stop in Burbank it was Million Air, and Million Air terminal is one of those decked out places. It was immediately apparent when we pulled in that we were the poor cousins in our King Air. From G650's to Global Expresses and all manner of planes in between there was probably 150 million at least parked around us (and yes one had an Escalade unloading people). This review is from the perspective of someone who get out of the plane and uses the facilities. I cannot comment on fuel prices, landing fees, or how the ground handlers were. Inside, the terminal was clean and well appointed. the furnishings were comfortable. The bathrooms were clean, and had the biggest bottle of Listerine I have ever seen. For us the big plus was the food. They had a mini 7-11 like set up with fountain drinks, snacks, and donuts that are on the house. It hit the spot. The staff was friendly as well.

The airline service, its credit card, Savings Club, all of which I participate in, has come a long way. No complaints. Calling customer service is a nightmare. Yet, Spirit has been fine tuning all along. Now as I observe, their digital boarding pass, is one of the best in the business. All this serious improvement, can only materialize with a competent management team. This incudes the vital check in personnel and gate staff, all important components, for an enjoyable flight. I have always observed consistent and high class service, when flying from BUR to LAS, on my favorite flight path. In this context, I am talking about Supervisor Sukhmani and her colleague, Melissa. Almost always, encounter them before embarking. Both provide high class customer service. A caliber of fine friendly touches, I don't experience on any major US carrier like for example (cough, cough), American. Yes' it's true. Spirit, though still growing, embodies customer care, everytime, consistency, always smiling, and providing top notch customer service.
