Today I flew from Burbank back to OKC and I was so thankful to avoid the LAX madness. This airport formerly was called the Bob Hope Airport and I wish it was still named in his honor. The amenities are showing some age, but you can never discount the speed at which you make it through security and get to your gate. I'd absolutely fly here again. read more

American should be ashamed of their employees named Brandon and Shelly. I had the worst experience ever today and was treated like a criminal when I was just trying to get help. The security lady gave more customer service than this guy Brandon. Brandon completely failed. He never once tried to find out what was going on or help, instead he pretty much came over in attack mode. I was treated like I was threatening to blow the place up when all I kept doing was asking for someone to help me after THEY gave me a gate pass for a different airport. Shelly... I fear she may have underwent a lobotomy before her shift because huh!? It worked out in the end. My tickets ended up cheaper with Southwest. Southwest counter had good vibes all around and helped me when I had questions. I also learned they have different rules with certain things and it will forever save me money. I'm a 3 million miler with executive platinum status for many years. I am very loyal but recently, I have had occasion to fly on United and Delta. They are both far superior in so many ways. So I wasn't surprised when I read that those other airlines are doing so much better financially than American. I tried to speak with someone at American, maybe take part in a focus group to try and help them and I couldn't fine anyone to even express that to. The staff have solved problems for me, often before I knew I had one (proactively notifying me of a need to change flight plans when they anticipate delays/cancelations, etc). On the few occasions my flight was delayed and I miss a connection, they have not hesitated to rebook me on rival Airlines to get me to my destination. read more

If you don't value your time, and possess a lot of patience, by all means fly American. The staff is under-trained and overwhelmed with the constant stream of delays and cancelations. So, if you need to re-book or be re-routed (their fault), be prepared to wait another 2 hours for assistance. Just NO! I've been a Southwest member for years but, they don't fly everywhere. I just flew to Gulfport, MS with a stop in Dallas. I left out of Burbank & it was okay. The longer flights have larger planes & while this flight was packed, the seats were comfy & seemed roomier than SW. Coming back the gate arrival & departures were changed midflight. Arriving went from B44 to B14 and A28 to A9. Come on; Dallas airport is like a city FGS. I had to use a sky cab & even then it took over 30 minutes to get to my gate. Because of the change ... no Texas BBQ for me. The plane was smaller and so were the overheads. For some reason AA passengers are aggressive and try to deboard before their turn. This was booked for my parents. The flight was delayed from Burbank to Dallas and Dallas to Beaumont same situation coming back. Also gate changed numerous times. For both going and coming back. We requested for wheelchair services by the time they got to Dallas wheelchair person left and they ended up walking more then 3 miles due to gate changed. Same thing happened on their way back. Outbound -- arrived SIX HOURS LATE: Return Flight -- ridiculously small-sized "passenger(?)" aircraft now used primarily by some airlines to "maximize their profits" -- informed us that our "Carry On's" were actually going to be taken away and "collectively stored" somewhere (because the overhead compartments were completely inadequate). Upon arrival at Dallas (which is MONSTROUSLY HUGE -- MILES ACROSS -- and which REQUIRES use of trams, and multiple terminals, miles apart, on circuitous routing, etc.) we were informed that our "Carry On's" were not going to be given to us for a "little while" (there was a "delay(?)") -- but our connecting flight was LEAVING in TWENTY EIGHT MINUTES!!! From a very far removed Terminal. I politely wanted to verify that our connecting flight would be held -- since this was THEIR ERROR -- and was snippishly (almost gleefully) told "NO!" (as though she thought it was ridiculous to consider the travel needs of their clientele). Worst experience ever! Tickets were purchased months in advance for Thanksgiving travel. Our flight was to leave at 12:49 and received e-mail advising it was changed to 2:49. It is now 4:05 pm and we have not left because pilot had to return for gas after waiting for travelers to change flights for $1,500. Time off was requested by my son for this trip. I booked an American Airlines flight #AA2599 leaving Burbank CA on 09/07/24 at 7am connecting in Dallas with my final destination to Laquadia Airport NY. The boarding agent insisted that l check my small carry on bag.I explained that I had one personal item and my Carry-on bag which was my allowance, and that my connecting flight with them was delayed for 2 hours , so l had to try to get on another flight once I get to Dallas. I also explained that l'm participating in an event that same evening. She didn't seem to care and insisted that she will not allow be to board with my Carry-on. She stated that my options were either to check the bag or look for another flight, and that she will be closing the gate in 5 minutes. It was an impossible and stressful situation since there were no other flights leaving at that time. She was very rigid and rude and even when I explained the situation to her she would not budge. When l finally boarded,there were plenty of room to store my bag. When l got to Dallas that same delayed flight was delayed twice. Horrible. I check in a day early, arrive 2 hours early, and go to he terminal their app tells me to go to. Then I found out they traded gates with Southwest, so the flight I'm standing in line for, going to the city I'm flying to, at the gate their app tells me to be at, is for another airline. I have to leave the terminal by completely exiting and go thru security again at another terminal (which of course doesn't honor TSA precheck. Sure enough, missed my flight and the gate attendant looks dumbfounded and asks why I didn't check the board to confirm the gate. I asked why does AA put the info on the app if it's not accurate? I had an amazing departure, but a horrible return flight. So I guess that averages out to 3 stars. My departure: partnered with us airways on a canadian regional plane where you have to valet your bag at the gate because the overhead compartment is so small. Never experienced this, but it was not a huge issue. The flight was originally going to be late but it turned out to be on time and we left on time. My return however was the exact opposite. It was out of Phoenix airport and it waa again another partnered airline. I was supoosed to board at 8:40 for a 9:05pm flight. We didn't board until 9:45 due to the airline changing a tire on the runaway. The plane arrived at 8 but they had yo do this maintenance, which took forever. You would think that was it, but no...then they took more time to refuel the plane. I did not end up leaving phoenix until close to 10:00pm. Which is crazy because Burbank airport has a niise curfew which means my flight whuch arrived after 11:30 pm at Burbank was the last flight of the day. That should never happen!!! It sucks that it is hit or miss but what can you do. That's traveling for you... have patience or you will have a horrible experience read more

I planned to go back to Hong Kong on Feb 2, 2019 and arrive in HK on Feb 4, 2019, which is Chinese New Year Eve, by Flight 193. Same as Christmas Eve, Chinese New Year Eve is also a ritual that children go home to accompany parents. All family members gather together in Chinese New Year Eve means a completion of a family. I haven't been home for Chinese New Year for 25 years due to my job and timing. I grabbed the chance this year to buy the ticket from AA to Hong Kong and I was thinking that I could do this family ritual by returning to my parents to celebrate the Chinese Year. But my dream was broken by this 20 hour delay. Instead of departing on at 11:50 pm Feb 2, 2019 the flight delayed till 8:30 pm Feb 3, 2019 to depart. In the plane, we kept receiving ambiguous messages about different departure times. Finally, Instead of arriving home on the Chinese New Year Eve on Feb 4, 2019, I will arrive Hong Kong on Feb 5, at 4am. I felt so disappointed to the ground crew's service. After we deplaned, the ground crew only told that there were two options, either stay in a hotel or provide transportation voucher to go home. I tried to explain my urgency to go back to Hong Kong, but what I received just a piece of note of what to do instead of an actual person talk to me, such as if there was a chance that I could change to other code sharing airlines. I would die in aircraft due to having breath shortage resulted by narrow space and non removable iron for the sides of chair and being tortuned there for hours , caused me stress and breath shortage . I asked a male hostes to bring me an oxygen to survive, he went to ask whether there is doctor in aircraft or not, but he came and said SORRY WE DON'T HAVE ANY DOCTOR AND NO ANY OXYGEN TUBE IN THE AIRCRAFT. i asked him at least give me a water and he brought. and we landed after half an hour. meanwhile my feets had blown due to stucking my chair for long hours. otherwise all other chairs were having removable iron . it was said that emergency exit seat is wider couple of inches , but it was not like that. it would be better to make the emergency seats removable irons so that heavy set people could fly comfirtably , or before buying the ticket on that chair to be asked the weight and tall of the passenger. and to be sold ticket accordingly. read more

Worst airline service I've experienced in 30 years! We flew from Los Angeles to Pensacola round trip. While connecting through Dallas on our outbound flight, the connection plane was put out of service due to hydraulic failure. It took over 3.5 hours to get another plane and instead of arriving in Florida by 2:58 pm, we arrived at 6:30 pm. Unbelievably, on our return, we were delayed over 5 hours with our Dallas connection plane also taken out of service because after scheduled maintenance that found that the oxygen masks would not deploy if needed. We were loaded and unloaded on our connection plane. Once reloaded, we had to wait another 1.10 hours for the catering truck, and then another 20 minutes for someone to push the plane back -- all in DALLAS, American Airlines' hub! The pilot was clearly apologetic and frustrated, stating that he had no access to the catering vendor, calling repeatedly for service and for help pushing back the plane. No amount of first round only free cocktails will make up for this disorganized, poor quality service. I'm also cutting up my American Airlines credit card! read more

I have been a member of American Advantage MC for several years. Their customer service is horrendous. I was on the phone for an hour and still did not get my issue resolved and they tried to pass me off to do what I needed online but I stated I already had done that and it did not work and the hoops they make you go through to use your points is ridiculous. They also have an annual fee but do not give you any extra points for being a loyal member. They are also much more expensive most of the time. I highly recommend if possible just to use/apply the Southwest credit card with miles. SW also gives you 30K points for signing up. I will be cancelling my AA card soon. read more

American Airlines saved my trip to Cuba. being a disabled American they offered many amenities I was first to board and well taken care of. I had a personal flight attendant push me through several airports and help me with all my carry-on. Customer service even moved my seat to the bulkhead for extra legroom.
