My absolute favorite matcha--not only in Ann Arbor but maybe even in California (my home state) Ann Arbor is so so so lucky to have such an amazing and potently strong matcha place! The color is rich & so vibrant--you can tell this would be a great matcha spot to hit. The ratio from milk to matcha is insane; genuinely such a great ratio where the matcha balances the milk perfectly! The sweetness isn't too sweet, and if you like a real, grassy matcha tasting matcha, Unitea is the place for you! The mango milk tea and matcha soft serve is also the best--huge fan of this combination and incredible kudos to Lina and the team at Unitea! My favorite matcha in Ann Arbor! I'm so glad I got to try this with a friend. They have a stocked menu with so many matcha and Vietnamese coffee staples and everything is high quality and tasty and customizable. They offer different types of matcha also which is something I haven't seen at other cafes. There are two kiosks to order from right along the wall to the left when you enter and the order counter is where you pick up your drink when they call your name. They offer oat milk but only for the matchas or basic lattes/coffees - the cold foams and condensed milk is dairy. A great new addition to my cafe break spots - check them out! read more

I stopped by Unitea to try their matcha latte recently and it was perfect! I'm very picky about matcha drinks, I prefer a more robust matcha taste and unique flavor pairings. Unitea has very unique flavors that are hard to find elsewhere in Michigan like Pandan and Mango. I tried the mango matcha and it was the perfect balance of sweet. The mango flavor is from a jam so it's not overly sweet and slightly tart. The matcha is ceremonial grade and the quality is apparent from both taste and appearance. I would highly recommend Unitea! read more

Very refreshing to see a change in management and a revamped menu by the new owners! I was visiting the area and stopped by to grab some coffee and was surprised to see the new shop layout and menu. Our previous UniTea experiences were all delivery and I'm happy to report I finally physically made it in yesterday and it was great! A few things in particular made me very happy: 1. The return of the taiyaki. I'm not sure how long it was gone exactly but I have not seen it available for quite some time. Not sure if it's available via delivery yet but signage inside said "taiyaki is back" and it was on their in store menu so that was at least an option! You can also order them solo if you want or with ice cream. Whoo! 2. Way more options in store than online ordering. I was shocked at how much I was missing just by going through an app. You order at a kiosk which I also actually really liked since I was able to take my time looking through the menu and customizing things easily. I can imagine it might be a little more frustrating when they're busy but when I was the only one in there it was nice to have the space to dive in without feeling bad I was holding a cashier up. My order was also ready in like 5 minutes which was very speedy! 3. MOCHI DONUTS. To the best of my knowledge they're the first place in Ann Arbor to offer them. I had never had them before and I have to say I like them quite a bit. A bit chewier than a standard donut but they taste great and very cute and photogenic. The place isn't huge but they have a few tables if you want to eat there. It's a cute atmosphere so I'll definitely be doing that in the future (I immediately texted my husband "I demand a date night here."). Not sure how crowded they get during peak times but on a Wednesday around 6pm I was the only one in there. And they're open late-ish which is also a bonus! read more

We visited A2 and decided to have some drinks at unitea café. My family had a wonderful experience there with the new management. Lina (the manager) was very pleasant and patient; she helped a young family member choose and order a drink. There are so many drink choices and all are great choices. The numerous add-ons are great too. The purpose of so many choices is for customers to order the very drink they want. (Note: You can place your orders on touch screens conveniently located to your left immediately after you enter.) The ambiance is quiet and comfortable. There are a few small tables and a short bench. About 10-15 people fit comfortably. The place is small and cozy so the business model is to serve customers quickly. Loved the drinks and customer service. Did I mention that Lina is awesome?! We'll visit unitea café anytime we're in A2. read more

I'm a bubble tea lover, and I just loved the wide selection here and the ease of browsing and ordering. I ordered the Ube milk tea with boba. Next time, I'm going to try the Ube smoothie. Wish I lived closer to here. The only reason I took away one star is that the place is so cramped and difficult on moving around. There's so space to social distance, and no sign that the kiosks are cleaned between use. read more

Quite literally my FAVORITE boba place just for the iced thai milk green tea! If youve never tried you have to try it! It is pretty sweet but not overpowering! Doesnt taste similar to regular thai tea a bit of a lighter taste? I also like how the ice is in smaller chunks! read more

Can I just say the music at Unitea really hits different. They have good throwbacks and they have good quality boba and different unique flavors. I was a huge fan of the thai green milk tea but now my new favorite is genmaicha milk tea. I am telling it is so hard to find genmaicha at different boba places so this is my new go to boba place for AA. It takes like brown rice tea and it has a roasty nutty flavor :) I have always been milk tea than fruit tea. read more

UniTea is the newest bubble tea shop to open in Ann Arbor, and unlike the others they're not a chain! They're located in Iorio's previous spot and just had their grand opening today, but they've been in soft opening for the last week. They have a variety of drinks as well as soft serve, which you can also choose to get in a taiyaki or egg waffle! I believe they have the same owners as V Kitchen, and their menu also includes Vietnamese coffee and a pandan coconut flavor option for the waffles. They're currently running a 25% off grand opening promotion until the 29th. We tried a few items and liked the desserts more than the drinks. Our favorite was the taiyaki soft serve with milk and matcha swirl ($7.50). The egg waffle was also good, but the strawberry and mango swirl soft serve didn't pair that well with it imo. We didn't like the drinks as much though: the black milk tea with boba was the best, with a nice strong tea flavor, but wasn't very milky. The Ube Swirl was mostly milk and not that much ube (it's mostly swirled on the sides). We got it without the cheese cap though so maybe the original is better. We really didn't like the Unitea fruit tea, which is black tea and fruits (passionfruit, pineapple...). We added boba to all the drinks and it was just ok - on the harder and chewier side. They have a lot of drinks on their menu though, so maybe other options are better. The inside of the store is pretty narrow but the have a few seats. The interior decoration is super cute, with lots of balloons and smiley faces. FYI as of today (July 27) masks aren't required inside, and employees weren't wearing masks. They do provide hand sanitizer. Overall 3/5 but bumping up the rating since they're new and have a lot of room to grow, and the milk and matcha soft serve was good. I'd recommend trying them out and supporting a new, local boba shop! read more

This would be the 5th bubble tea location in the area.... explosion of bubble tea shops in Ann Arbor. This place took over Iorio Gelato location... while they do offer bubble tea, they also offer Vietnamese coffee, soft serve, in hopes of differentiating itself from four other bubble shops around the corner. I got the Mangonada and Vietnamese coffee. The coffee was decent, didn't taste that strong Vietnamese coffee flavor that I'm used too. Mangonada was awesome, would recommend this for sure. read more

This store is super cute and I had a great experience. I ordered the Strawberry Matcha and Mango Matcha for a friend. As someone who isn't big on Matcha, this was the best tasting Matcha i've ever had. They use Ceremonial Matcha which makes all the difference and it's quite literally the perfect taste! Good drinks and food. My only regret was not having enough space in my stomach to order a fish waffle and ice cream in addition to my bubble tea. Hope to try this on my next visit! While the store is small, service is quick and speedy. I like to order my drink ahead of time on my mobile Snackpass app and time my walk to the store to ensure little to no wait time. My bubble tea drinks have certainly made for tasty beverages while strolling around downtown and the Diag on campus. Tried the gold leaf before, but I'm not sure it added much flavor wise though it did make my drink look like a beautiful piece of art. One of my favorite boba shops on campus!! They have super taiyaki ice creams and they're not too sweet but make up for it in softness and smoothness. Furthermore, I love their drinks. My favorite is the thai matcha milk tea but honestly I've never been disappointed here. Their drink sizes are also much larger than other places for about the same prices. read more

Not sure if the boba has gotten better since I first had it but I really love the Taiyaki! My friend and I shared one and we got the matcha ice cream and 3x strawberries toppings. The ice cream itself was pretty average - not a lot of matcha flavor. But the taiyaki was perfect! It wasn't overly crispy - just bready, cakey goodness. Yum! it was delicious. This place is an awesome little boba shop right on campus that recently opened up. While I had anticipated going out for boba they sell an assortment of shakes and desserts that were so beautifully dressed I had to put my boba on hold. On the inside you can order on an electronic kiosk and your order is ready in ~3-5min. There is some indoor seating which is limited (roughly 2 tables) though depending on the time of day it may be too crowded and you might want to make a to go order. We had the pineapple and mango shakes which were rich with fruit chunks and blended to perfection. The Tajin seasoning and candy straw was really unique and worked so well with the sweetness of the fruit masterfully balancing out the flavors with spice and tart. This shake is one of the most unique takes on familiar flavors that I have ever tried and I will definitely be returning to try their other deserts! I liked how their shakes were fresh, flavorful without being too sweet or too rich, and well decorated. I highly recommend dropping by and checking them out. read more

I just started coming here after their rebrand, and I can say for certain that this is THE go-to spot in Ann Arbor for any of your cafe needs. I have tried many of their new and old drinks, such as their fruit tea and all of the variations of their matcha and Vietnamese coffee. They are beyond exceptional, and you can truly taste the quality and care they put into every drink. Although I go there often, I never find myself getting tired of the flavor. It is always so good and a great part of my day. In addition to that, their employees are the sweetest ever! They are always willing to assist customers with the menu options and are extremely receptive to what their customers like. They are also one of the only places on campus to offer unique and authentic Asian flavors, such as Ube, Pandan, and more! So, if you are missing that piece of home you'll certainly be brought back with their drinks. Looked online and saw they had decent reviews, but I guess you can never judge a book by its cover. The most disgusting boba tea I have ever had. Ordered two ubae smoothies , no details are provided what's in it . Tastes like baby food. When asked to replace Atleast one of them for another drink. He refused and said that's what you ordered, and didn't care that I told him , basically told me it's too bad no one's going to drink it and it will go in the trash, especially the fact i told him it was my first time there. Over priced boba as well. Little does he know it's still going to be trashed becuase it tastes disgusting. Palgong tea it's ten times better and cheaper. Saw great reviews so we visited. We got the matcha soft serve wish 'fish' waffle, germinate brown rice boba tea. Well the soft serve was sloppy made. They said they ran out of it. Uh...and they still charged the full price . The 'Fish' waffle turned out to be a regular one. They said they don't have the machine. The boba milk tea was bland. It had very little boba and they were hard bobas. Overall it wasn't good experience for us. We wont come back. read more

The reason for the 4 star instead of 5 is because the women's bathroom was not clean, customer service can be improved, and some music can really make the cafe more inviting. I made coupe of orders, one included dessert. I was handed the cake with no fork, had to ask for one. Wasn't given napkins and didn't bother asking. I might sound petty, but honestly the product can be great. However, customer service is what brings customers back. There needs to be proper training. If I'm going to spend money and do everything myself and ask for everything that should be the basic/ standard, then I might as well make my coffee at home. It terms of music, I think it would amplify the space. When I stopped by the cafe, I was the only one in the main space and it was dead silent and all I can hear is the buzzing of the cooler that had the water and pop/ drinks. Some light music in the background would've blocked that noise. I only share this because I would love to see this business thrive.

The main thing Drip House has going for it is that it is effectively the only coffee spot to sit and study or meet someone right by the stadium (where a bunch of us live and/or work). It is also open into the early evening when a lot of other coffee spots aren't. And we do love an outside seating option. The service has always been just fine and it's a pretty cute spot (not to sound ridiculously nit-picky but while we're here--someone might wanna sheer some of the many dead leaves off the beautiful plant inside though). Also, the banana oat latte they had as a special a couple months ago was delicious. So yummy. Some things I don't love about Drip House: the blue chairs. So uncomfortable. It is expensive and, dare I say, overpriced. The first time I got my $14 piece of ricotta toast, it was delicious. And I figured, fine. It's $14 for a piece of bread with a little cheese and jam but it's so yummy, I'll splurge every once in a while and go with it. Plus, I can't eat tree nuts, so it is one of the few options for me. However, the second time I got it, it was most definitely not worth it. The "whipped" ricotta was just a sad, thin wet layer and there was practically no jam. I get it. It's expensive out here. We're living in the shadows of the avocado toast economy where espresso drinks cost minimum $7 and you effectively can't buy anything for less than $4. But just because you feel like you *can* doesn't mean you *should.* Paying $14 for a piece of bread.... Come on. It's insulting. It feels exploitative. Will i be going back? Yes, because of the proximity and sometimes a girl needs to go for a cute little walk to get a coffee--just to feel something. Would I if there was a competing coffee shop nearby? That remains to be seen. Also the size of the "large" iced drink. Come on guys.

It wasn't too strong and had the perfect sweet flavor. The staff was kind and our drinks came out quickly! The atmosphere was clean and there were plenty of seats if we had wanted to stay and chat or do work. I always appreciate having a variety of seating options. There are fabric benches that aren't pictured where we sat while we waited that were cozy. This elevated our hike and I will definitely be coming back!

The cardamom fig latte was unique and definitely tasted of both cardamom and fig. They have bagels and some pastries. I really liked the varied seating (comfy couches/chairs, tables, and bar seating) and plentiful outlets for getting work done. The wifi was fast and consistent. Most recently I came here for a meeting, ordering a vanilla latte and a sweet potato hand pie to nibble on since I hadn't eaten yet. The description of the latter sounded so good, sweet potatoes with black beans and a few other veggies, wrapped up in flaky pie dough. The filling, however, was mostly pureed, giving it more of a baby food consistency which I didn't love. The flavor was good though but I couldn't get over the mushy texture. The black beans weren't pureed in but were few and far between (I think I maybe counted 2 or 3?). In addition to my hand pie I also ordered a piece of the billionaire's shortbread but they didn't ring it up/prepare it. By the time I realized it (I had to wait for my hand pie to be heated up) it was only a few minutes before close so I didn't bother going back up to the counter to reorder. IDK if they were just in a hurry to close or genuinely didn't hear my order but it was a bummer since it did look great. The vanilla latte, however, was quite good. And for a coffee shop that's most important. And what they lacked in substantial food options they did make up for in fun, seasonal drink specials and a few sweet treats like cookies and the aforementioned shortbread. The space is very cute, as well, and made for a really comfortable meeting location. So overall I did like my visit here. I just won't be rushing back here if I'm feeling peckish. But for a caffeinated pick me up and a nice place to meet or chill, this definitely fits the bill.

"Thank you so much." 5:02 pm: I zoom into the parking lot, jump out of the car, run up to the door and knock. The door swings open and there she is...my coffee angel; coffee in hand with a smile. I know she is trying to get out of there. I grab the coffee, shove some money with a good tip into her hand. "Thank you so much. I'll write about it." I yell back. It's taken me a couple of weeks but herein lies my humble expression of gratitude to Kyra, the one who had the where with all to stop and ask herself: Who's in charge here, the clock or my heart?
