That balance is what makes secondhand stores so valuable, especially for families who may not always be able to afford retail prices. I have donated to this location several times throughout the years because I genuinely believed my donations were going back into the community and helping families find good-quality clothing and other items at reasonable prices. I have also shopped here many times. Unfortunately, over time, I have started noticing a huge difference between the mission of a secondhand store and the way items are actually being priced and handled at this location. I have personally seen items that I donated later being sold for $15-$20, while other used clothing in good condition is routinely priced at $10 or more. At that point, I have to ask myself: How is this still considered affordable for the community? Another frustrating issue is the lack of Apple Pay. In today's world, contactless payment has become extremely common, and not accepting Apple Pay is a major inconvenience for customers. I have also experienced situations where two identical items were priced differently. When I pointed this out to an employee, the store refused to honor the lower price and told me the other item would simply be put back on the floor in three or more days. When the products are essentially identical, that kind of response feels unnecessarily difficult and disappointing from a customer-service standpoint. After giving this location numerous chances, I have decided that I will no longer be donating here. Instead, I have started seeking out local mothers and families who are actually in need and giving my items to them for free. Honestly, I feel much better knowing that my donations are going directly to someone who needs them rather than being marked up and resold. I understand that organizations such as Goodwill and the Salvation Army need to make money in order to operate. I completely understand that these businesses have expenses and need to generate revenue. However, when used items are being priced so high that they are comparable to or sometimes not much cheaper than what you could purchase brand-new at Walmart or Target, I have to question who the store is really serving. Growing up, my parents didn't always have the money to buy brand-new clothes and shoes for me at the beginning of the school year. Being able to find clean, good-quality clothing at an affordable price made a huge difference for my family. Now that I am in a better financial position, I could easily go to Walmart or Target and spend $25 or more on something brand-new. Instead, I have intentionally chosen to shop at secondhand stores because I want to support businesses that I believe are helping the community. Unfortunately, the pricing, customer service, cleanliness, and overall management at this location have left me extremely disappointed. I truly hope management takes feedback like this seriously. Please do better not just for yourselves as a business, but for the community you are supposed to be serving. There are families who genuinely rely on secondhand stores to find affordable necessities, and they deserve better.

I went to Deseret Industries for clothes to wear while gardening. I found some great items like a men's long sleeve linen shirt and a pair of women's scrubs with pockets inside pockets. So many pockets (where I can put so many gardening tools). Because I was there I walked the whole store and left with a knick knack or two. The clothes all seemed to be marked at $6 each regardless. This was fine for what I got. The 2 men's shirts and 2 women's pants with pockets were in great condition and would have retailed for way more than $6. But I think part of the fun of thrifting is finding items at great prices. A men's linen shirt for $6 is great a regular tshirt for $6 is not great. It's a really big store with a big collections of items ranging from things looking near new to things looking like they came out of grandma's garage. I'll probably be back but won't be a regular.

Once I find the books, I debate on if I plan to purchase because their pricing is high. Compared to libraries where books can range from .50 cents to $1. At most for a used a book, I've paid $4 when I've gotten the same book for $1 at local library. It's always worth a stop to check out, but be prepared you may find items are sold here for a premium price. Plenty of parking. Store hours are funky.

The same cashier was checking out my sister and me, and I'm not sure if the way we were treated had anything to do with us being two younger brown adults, but the interaction was incredibly uncomfortable and humiliating. My sister tried to explain the price of the hangers she was purchasing. Rather than simply listening to her, the cashier questioned her and refused to believe what she was saying, even after my sister showed her a physical picture she had taken showing the price. To be clear, this review is not about the price. We completely understand that employees need to verify prices. What was upsetting was the unnecessary attitude and the way my sister was made to feel as though she was being dishonest. Then, completely unnecessarily, the cashier commented that the hangers were too "small" for our clothes. What exactly was she implying by that? Was she making a comment about our bodies or our size? Regardless of what she meant, it was an extremely inappropriate thing to say to a customer. My sister politely explained that she was purchasing the hangers to hang her pants. Instead of simply moving on, the cashier responded with "ew, that's disgusting." Who says something like that to a customer? There was absolutely no reason for that comment. It was rude, disrespectful, embarrassing, and completely inappropriate. A customer should never have to stand at a register and be spoken to in a way that makes them feel humiliated for something as simple as purchasing clothing hangers. What makes this even more upsetting is that I had been excited to support this organization because I respect what thrift stores and volunteer-based organizations represent. Unfortunately, one employee's behavior completely ruined that experience for me. I left feeling angry, disappointed, and, most importantly, humiliated on behalf of my sister. Watching someone speak to her that way while she remained polite was incredibly upsetting. I genuinely wish I had recorded the interaction because it was one of those situations where you leave thinking, Did that really just happen? I will never be returning to this location. I hope management takes complaints like this seriously and understands that volunteering or working for an organization does not give anyone the right to belittle, embarrass, or disrespect customers. People come into these stores to shop, donate, and support the organization. The absolute least they deserve is basic kindness and respect. One star is honestly generous.
