There are real angels in Southern California. (note: the…read moreaddress listed is NOT accurate to protect the location of the animals often removed from horrific situations. This group is nationwide.) I'm not sure how many actually review charitable non profit rescue groups, but I have to review this one to tell you what kind of work they do and how truly selfless they are (they even helped me with dog that wasn't from Harlee's Angels.) I was down to my last frenchie, outliving my once 5 pack of dogs... She was lonely, wondering where everyone was, why it was so quite and why she was so alone. It was time to consider her crossing that rainbow bridge. My dogs saved me. And here I am again needing to be saved. Enter Harlee's Angels Southern California Division. I was on a site called RescueMe.org and looking into rescuing an english bulldog mix that just really captured my attention. Not much was said about him that I couldn't already see in the pictures. He looked so sweet and innocent and YOUNG. But the scars on his face said otherwise. The story said "bait dog." Harlee's Angels are about rescuing, rehabilitating and adopting out dogs that no one else thinks worthy of help. And trust me they do MORE.. Please see their site. Harlee's Angels provides: "Rescues dogs in county animal shelters that would otherwise be euthanized. Each dog is placed in foster care, receives veterinary care, and sterilization. Foster care for dog surrendered by their owners who either can no longer provide for the pets or no longer wish to have them in their homes. Adoption of rescued dogs to qualified homes that have been properly screened and counseled by our adoption coordinators and foster parents to maintain the pet in the home for a lifetime. Training of leadership team members and volunteers in the areas of humane education, animal welfare, animal behavior and care, and disaster response. Education to the public in the form of counseling, pet behavior consultation and training, Temporary assistance in whatever manner needed, when possible to help families keep their pets." Harlee's Angels Vision "Harlee's Angels is recognized as a major resource for the welfare of homeless, abandoned and abused companion animals in the United States. Our goal is to lower euthanasia rates at county animal controls by: Bringing unwanted dogs into our program for medical, social rehabilitation and re-homing. Providing resources to pet owners to encourage their responsibility and commitment to their pets and prevent them from contributing to the homeless pet population (i.e. spay/neuter awareness, microchipping, etc.). We want to be a valuable resource to our community. We believe that one person can make the difference in the life of an animal in need, so as an organization, we have more strength to help more animals." I applied for Ricky a month after I saw him. But someone had already adopted him. I guess it wasn't meant to be. I was bummed. 2months later, I continued to check out the rescueme.org site and lo and behold Ricky was back for adoption. I'm told the previous owner had personal issues that brought him back. It was fate and he was mine. Today, and 15lbs heavier Ricky is ALL that I want in a dog. Handsome, Sweet, Happy, and Gentle too... he's fit very well into the family dynamics and with training has become a truly obedient and perfect family member. To think someone used him as a bait dog, or others thought he was not rehabilitatable! Wow. I got a true GEM!!!! Please rescue.. if your interested in a dog, please check out Harlee's Angels. There are great animals here and a perfect canine for your family. They will try and match your personality with the right dog. And this group is just the best. They can also board and help you train and assimilate your current dog with the new adoptee. They work so very hard to gives second chances to homeless, abused, neglected dogs. I am low income,…read moreand didnt quite have the mandatory $50 to spend but i wanted to pay at least half of that to get fewer items... Going through a rough time today, went by several pantries and food banks. Turns out that Thursday is a popular day to not distribute any food. I was advised to come by here and that the people here are nice and accommodating. I arrived and was immediately assisted by an older woman whom was very kind and sweet, she directed me to a desk area where an annoyed looking younger woman sat, whom looked and sound like she didn't want to be bothered and was trying to get people out of her hair. When it came time to ask i attempt to ask if I can pay "half for less" and she told me its only 50 they dont offer any other help it is what it is and she couldn't direct me anywhere else. She said she can charge per item but I would end up paying more. I was stunned at the lack of dignity I recieved here....from this worker in particular. She was rude up until I didn't want to even try anymore, at that point she told me byyeeeee have a blessed day! I had brought with me paperwork and everything to show I was disabled and in need just to get by for the remainder of the week but I felt super unwelcome.
