The worker, Melanie, kept commenting on my daughter's acne as she was doing her pedicure. I was sitting next to my daughter getting a pedi as well. After asking why she has acne, she then told her that she should take a pill like her cousin did and it may go away. My daughter had to say, "I'm a teenager. Sometimes I break out." It was embarrassing and uncomfortable. I had to tell her to stop talking about it. It's not nice. I understand that Melanie is obviously ignorant to the social norms of this culture but they just lost business as we will never go back. We were regular, high tipping customers and this is not the first time she said something rude. Attentive service. Showed up on a Friday before lunch and they were able to take me right away. Had a Mani and pedi with polish and it took about one hour in total for both things. Unfortunately, they do not use the quick dry polish that most other places use. So it took about 30 to 45 minutes for my polish to finish drying while sitting under fans. I did witness them cleaning out the foot baths very carefully between customers. I also saw that they sanitized their equipment after each customer in a microwave looking sanitizer. They also wear masks and gloves for each customer and continually change their gloves, depending on the procedure they're doing at the time. They also continue to use plexiglass between the customer and the therapist. I was asked if I wanted to pay before my nail polish was applied to avoid messing up my nails later. Good idea. I did not see signs posted anywhere for the prices and when I came in and asked for a mani-pedi, they just went ahead and I guess assumed that I had been there before. The best powder dip I've been had. The tech was very gentle on removing my old dip and detailed when adding my new dip. She also got under my nails which I love. She topped it off gel top coat with UV. She then added hand cream at the end which I find places rarely do with a dip service. The pedi was nice too. $65 for a regular pedi and dip powder mani. This has become my go-to nail salon in Pittsburgh. They always do and excellent job with my gel manicure (it lasts about three weeks!) and pedicure. They do have an issue sometimes when even if you make an appointment ahead of time, you end up waiting 30-40 minutes. It seems like they need to hire more people because their demand is high. I would recommend going on an off day like a Monday, Tuesday, or Wednesday. They are always polite and try to get me in ASAP. read more

Really terrible service. The elderly lady that waited on me couldn't have been more rude. I told her I didn't want my nails filed - she sawed away at my natural nail with the harshest file for acrylics and left them uneven and jagged. I chose a burgundy color and she painted them a candy apple red. She put 2 coats on my left hand and 3 coats on my right. The application was messy and she was just generally aggressive with handling my hands and nails. She did not hid her disdain when I gave her a $2 tip (which was overly generous considering the service). I'll never go back. There's too many nail salons in the surrounding area. Ok, my 8 year old loves mani/pedis & it is a special treat. So with school starting, I took her. We've been here several times & once they know I'm not getting one, they dismiss us & make us wait. Fine, I get it. You aren't going to rush us back, but I always leave $5 bucks on a $20 dollar mani/pedi. This time, my patience was maxed. We went at 7, hoping it would not be crowded & it still was, but there were 3 nail techs just looking at us waiting for 20 minutes. I still tried to maintain my Zen, but then 3 adults come in, sans appointment, & they start waiting on them! Oh heck no! I stood up & got ready to leave & they took us back, knowing I was mad. Cold water for her, rush job & a massage on her legs that was 30 seconds. No offer of a drink, but everyone else was offered. trifling, I know, but really! If you are going to offer this & don't want to put any effort into it, charge more & give a real experience. I still tipped, but that is the last of the money they'll get from me. I don't care what we asked for, we deserve basic respect & good customer service. Oh, I think I need to call Edgar Snyder for the black lung or mesothelioma or DNA mutation that I am sure we both have after breathing in paint fumes. Get some exhaust fans for future customers (which WON'T be us, lol). Too bad, because I would come back & spend money had they taken proper care if us. read more

They do not honor your reservation, I had to wait 45 minutes until they sat me after I called ahead for my time. I got the dip powder and honestly it looks like I did them at home, there is still paint on my skin around the nails and near the cuticles it looks pretty poor. They also kept filing and filing and filing my nails so now they are so incredibly short they hurt all the time, especially when I pick things up. Do not recommend going at all, many better places near by, especially if they won't honor your reservation/appointment. read more

Not this time. I guess it all depends on who is working the day that you go here. Yesterday, I went to get a gel manicure and the guy that did my nails was extremely aggressive with cutting my cuticles. I wasn't bleeding but he trimmed and trimmed to the point that I thought it was almost deliberate with how much he hacked, as there was no point to cutting this much. It was my fault for not putting a stop to what was going on. I never allow them to use the electric sanding tool, but he was scraping my nails with the metal nail edger. It's going to take a while for my nails to become thick and healthy again. However, it was my fault to not putting a stop to it and asking for one of the other ladies. read more

Appointments make sense for the weekends, but weekdays are better suited if you are a last-minute person and want to walk-in. Absolutely awful service! Brought four teens here as a treat within hours before a dance. They ran late by 60-75 minutes. No apologies. I asked the manager to consider taking some money off of each of the girl's fee. The manager not only refused but he got up and stated he would not allow two of the girls to finish getting their nails done until we all immediately paid in full. He also blamed us and said we arrived 5 minutes late. I reminded him that I called right at the appointment times, apologized, and said we were on our way and almost there.He raised his voice acted quite rude (all in front of the girls)and said the appointments were beginning an hour late because of our lateness. First, I would like to say that this review does not reflect ALL of the workers at Unique. Members of my family have been customers for over 4 years and have gotten great service in the past. However, we have NOT gotten good service from a technician named Holly. My mom is too nice to complain, but I am not. On multiple occasions, Holly has been absolutely cruel to my mother, the sweetest woman on Earth. Holly has called her a "baby" in the past, and today she publicly mocked my mother for misunderstanding another technician. I go every 2 weeks for a full in. I get great service but after reading some of the reviews I see what others are saying. They do cater to the regulars who they know are going to come back. I have seen the owner pull someone in the middle of a service to another person and now I get it. I've been going here for many years, and my most recent experience was awful. We were greeted at the door by the barking of the owner's dog. I asked for a different color on my nails, the owner rolled her eyes and yelled across the store on how it was too late. Although she couldn't find time to take off the first coat of my nails, as soon as she finished with me, she had time to take her dog out to use the restroom. I understand if it was busy and didn't have time to switch the color, but at the time there was only three people in there. The owner is rude and extremely unprofessional. I used to love this salon. But the last time I went it was under new ownership. The two women who bought it and another older woman were shreaking in Vietnamese to the tech who was doing my nails. Its not the quiet spa-like atmosphere that it used to be. And the the price for my nails went up $10.00. I loved my nail tech but I won't be back. I had a coupon for a gel manicure and pedicure and decided to give them a try. My experience was pretty terrible. Their pedicure chairs are entirely too close together and it was very crowded. I had Shellac on my toes and they filed the tops of my nails before soaking the Shellac off. Then they had me stick my toes in these little bowls to dissolve the Shellac. This was very atypical, awkward and uncomfortable. Then my polish had a thin spot on one side of my nail and she ended up putting about 6 coats on it. So my big toe color was darker than the rest b/c of the numerous coats. They did my nails while I was in the pedicure chair, which was also awkward and not relaxing. A light is needed to cure the Shellac or gel and she sat the light on my lap while she did my nails. I barely had room to put my nails in the light for them to cure b/c there wasn't a lot of room on my lap and my legs were angled since I was still in the pedicure chair. She also filed the tops of my nails with a heavy grain file. I don't mind if they buff the tops of my nails slightly but she was using a harsh file on the tops of my nails. I asked her to stop and she did. She also didn't do a fantastic job cleaning up my cuticles and my general nail shape. And dropped about 4 little baskets of nail color in my lap for me to choose a color. Before I even had time to look at the options the girl kept grabbing them and telling me "this is a good color" for all of them. It seemed if they were more speed focused then quality and relaxation. And they were $10 more expensive than my favorite nail spot, BJs, on McKnight Road. read more

I called for three pedicures and when we arrived, no one was available to start the pedicures. We waited over 10 minutes then were put at pedicure chairs and still waited another 10 minutes for someone to start. The pedicures were all rushed and not very good. I still have old dark polish left on the skin as well as new polish on my skin around my nails. I understand running a few minutes behind but this was ridiculous and not very relaxing. It was nothing really special until the last time I went and got my nails done by Anne. That was the first time I left the place actually 100% satisfied with my gel nails. She pays attention to detail and knows what she's doing. Everyone else does a mediocre job so if you do go here, definitely schedule an appointment with Anne! I have made appointments and still waited over 20 minutes past my appointment time TWICE - today I was a walk-in and treated shabbily to say the least! Right in the middle of my nail service I was LEFT by the nail technician! She told me she had to go paint a 4 year old girl's nails because her mom is a regular customer and having a pedicure on the other side of the salon!! I was told by the same technician "She (the mom) spends a lot of $$ here!!! That was her reason for leaving me and going to this little girl. I decided to take my daughter to get a maicure & pedicure as a treat for her 1st Holy Communion. I made appts for both of us one week ahead of time. When we got there we were put in pedicure chairs. Twice 2 women came over to start on us but we then called away by the owner to service other clients. The pedicures started out fine, leg massage, callus removal, but when they got to the buffing and filing of the nails it was like a quick once over. Then quick polish and off to manicure. The manicure was even worse! I had to show her the rough edges she made at the top of my nails when she did the quick filing with a very abrasive file. She did file them down then a quick polish and I was sent to the dryer. Granted, I only get a manicure or pedicure every couple of months but this was definitely one of the worst that I have received. I will not be going back here again! read more
