It went yesterday because .... why not? The store is nice sized and well organized. I found a 12 month shirt from Children's Place ($2), a Chicago baseball jersey ($3), tons of socks ($0.40 each) and some material ($3). When I took everything up to the counter, it turns out that it was half price day. Whoo hoo! I got all that and a few extra things for $7. I was just at the outlet mall in Aurora and saw a similar children's shirt for $16 full price and $6 at the outlet. I got mine for $1 in perfect condition. =) I will be returning. read more

I often find some hidden gems here. Great prices, a different deal every day. (Pay attention to the color of the tags and the signs in the store! A blue tag could mean 50% off one day!) I've bought some really cute clothes here. I've also bought some not-so-nice things to make a costume with for really, really cheap. A lot of miscellaneous goodies could be found, as well. We're talking board games, wall decor, pretty pillows, bags of toys, costumes, etc. Only giving it four stars because a) there's no fitting room and b) the place is overwhelmingly disorganized. read more

I seem to do the opposite of what most people do, I DON'T come for the clothes but come for the housewares & nic-nacs. Keep in mind, my inner interior decorator is 80 years old and 13 years old at the same time without any irony. The store is relatively well organized for it's brood, it's still sloppy drunk but it's organized like most thrift stores. The clothes are really unpredictable and it's hard to find something good, it's a good place for costume stuff on half price Mondays. I get all of the housewares here as well as the many plaques with quotes about friendship or a warm home. I tend to find awesome toys here, from my mini megaphone to my Disney chalkboard. The jewelery usually sucks and I'm not adventurous enough to look at the shoes. The books are relatively outdated and irrelevant unless you really are looking for the Da Vinci Code, children's books or cheesy romance novels. I also don't understand why people have to check their bags now. I'm sorry, but I wouldn't try to steal this stuff even if I were a kleptomaniac. I admit I have bought fabric and blankets here which my mom still thinks is completely absurd. I generally recommend this place to people who are into that hipster dirty look, not for people trying to find vintage Dior with little effort. You have to dig. Also, lots of strange materials for art students to play around with. Bring cash and survive the cashiers, that is my main advice. read more

Half off days at Unique are super addicting! They have them every Monday and major holidays such as Memorial Day. This location is high traffic, so I feel that you need to frequent often to find good stuff. I've picked up a few items on the last few visits, but haven't had as much luck in the women's section as the other locations, but men's items have been decent! We found men's American Eagle hoodies, and GAP/Club Monaco button down shirts for $4.99. Since it is by Chinatown, there's been a few times where I spotted tea sets and silk qipao dresses for under $10. Among my favorite finds is a pair of new Argo Tea mugs for only $0.49 after the 50% off. Great neighborhood place to hunt for deals! read more

You've really got to look through the items here. Most of it is pretty lackluster. But, if you dig around, you'll find a thing or two. also, they hang all of their pants by the top corner. it's kind of strange looking and makes looking through them quite a task. no dressing room. dress to try things on in the aisle. found a great skirt, a great pair of vintage pumps and a cute scarf. just so happened to but again, i had to really search. read more

Do not come here expecting great customer service. In fact, do not expect customer service at all. And, expect to be berated and mistreated by belligerent, ignorant staff. Expect to be left to wait for an interminable period if you want to see any jewelry. Additionally, if you complain, expect to be maltreated by both the Manager and the staff when you are a return visitor. Also, expect to hear the Manager bellow out to the whole world that one of his employees is "pregnant"! "Oh", he says, very loudly, "I didn't know that you were PREGNANT!" Best thrift store chain around. Mondays are completely insane, and your chances of finding good stuff diminish exponentially as the day passes. This location has a bit less both in terms of people and stuff, however. Their parking lot is ridiculous. Best to not drive or park on the street next to the park/baseball field. Finding cool, old (rare?) stuff is great. People smelling funny in close proximity to you isn't. Same goes for the store's taste in radio stations. read more

Do not come here expecting great customer service. Do come here expecting great deals. I outfitted my kitchen for less than $20 and managed to snag matching cups, plates and bowls. Parking lot is packed! Free parking but packed to the gills. Go ahead and pay for parking on Halsted. You are saving tons of money anyways shopping here. Save yourself the headache. read more

This place is sorta hit or miss. It's definitely more of your goodwill/salvation army/junk you would never wear and don't even know where people would buy this stuff. But then, there will be a random find in there that's worth it. So yeah.. definitely a treasure hunt! Since you've been warned.. you really do have to dig deep and have some energy to find some stuff here. I prefer this store to other thrift stores, but maybe that's just because I've gotten used to it. I have found so many name brands here: Hilfiger, London Fog, Columbia, Nike, Fila, among others. If you're willing to search, you'll find it! Their prices are occasionally high but you can't blame them for knowing the worth of some of the pieces they're selling; that's why you go on half-price Mondays. The only downside is that a bunch of hipsters/competition come here, so look out for them. read more

I just came in here for a quick glance while my food was getting prepared (ordered at Triple Crown express in the same plaza). They had really cheap books that are in good condition. Moreover, everything seems to be organized though there are a little bit of everything. I got a bit exited over the fancy dresses (prom/ evening gowns/etc) that were at the far right of the store. They were second (maybe even more hands...) hands that are at a reasonable price. I didn't examine too closely, but they seemed relatively new to me. There are a lot of slim dresses. People might do well if they are in a dress emergency with an extremely tight budget. Who can tell that the dress was previously owned by someone else?? read more

This location is the first Unique Store I have found. I REALLY liked it because: 1) there is free, available parking (in a lot) 2) the clothes are by sizes, not color like Goodwill seems to do 3) they have deals by color of tags, and on their website they have TONs of sales on varying days of the week. 4) books are uber cheap! I think it's something like 10 soft covers for 0.99? Great for kids books! 5) the place was clean and was pleasant, and cool (in hot weather). 6) TONS of shoe selection, it outranks Target and their shoes 7) Their curtains and sheets were all hung up nicely instead of shoved on a shelf 8) It's a pretty big store-though I've only been to 1 so far. Cons or Wish List: I wish they had shelving units for the office supplies, wooden knickknacks, housewares, all the 'other stuff' that I like to peruse. They currently have them on the top of the clothing racks, which is a little under eye level for me. read more

This location used to have some good finds, but lately it's a dump. Not only is the merchandise sub-par, but there are always hangers, books, clothing and shoes on the ground over which it is impossible to navigate your cart. Today I almost bought scarves but then decided that my money would be better spent at McDonald's Express a couple doors down. And once my friend got her wallet stolen here and no, she is not an idiot who is just asking to be robbed. The one star is for the vintage Sunbeam mixer with mint condition bowls I found here once. I was pleasantly surprised at this Unique store (before I realized that all Uniques are pretty great) because the neighborhood isn't that great, and it's right by the train tracks and the parking lot isn't very well lit. That said, they have a big parking lot all to themselves, which is very nice. I've only been once, but will be coming again the next time I'm on the south side. We lucked out that everything we bought was 50% off, we bought about 5 games, 3 skirts and 2 shirts for about $10! The guy at the cash register was really nice. (this is the same as my reviews for the other 2 Uniques I've been to:) Check which tag colors are 25 or 50% off! As with all Unique stores, everything is 50% off on Mondays (excluding shoes and jewelry I think). Check their website or go to the store for more specials, usually around a holiday weekend, everything will be 50% off that Saturday and Sunday. We went on a weekend AFTER a holiday sale, and it was totally not worth it, everything had been picked over and while there was still alot of stuff, it wasn't quality items. So far I've been to 3 Unique stores, and all have been pretty great in terms of selection of clothing, games & housewares. I think the Unique stores are some of the best thrift stores in the city. read more

Of course it is a thrift store, so they only have what's donated. What was there was cheaply made. A bit disorganized, a little grungy feeling. Disengaged employees. BEWARE OF THIS STORE! STAFFS ARE SUSPECTED THIEFS. I was browsing through products in store and I left my bag on the cart next to me. While browsing, one of the staff strike a conversation with me to distract my attention away from my bag. Little did I know, my bag was missing after that conversation. Purchased over a hundred dollars worth of merchandise for a less fortunate male. Unfortunately the clothes did not fit. I went back to the store asked the manager (Trina) if I could do an exchange she says yes. I spent over three hours searching for merchandise to do an even exchange only to be told at the register that they have a seven day return policy. I was not made aware of this policy on my first visit. They were very insensitive and refused to accommodate me pointing to the receipt stating "it's policy." I asked for a superior manager, I was told there was absolutely nothing they could do across the board of all Uniques and Savors stores. I then called another Uniques and told them what I wanted to do and they told me to come in and they would do a one time exception no fuss or questions asked! After I got off the phone with the other store I asked to speak back to the manager (not Trina) and was shockingly told that there was only one manager there who was the original lady I spoke with (Trina). I then realized that the manager had a regular employee come out to pose as her manager. I will not return to this particular Uniques. Btw I was very polite and mild mannered so this is by no means a angry review. I just did not appreciate being lied to. Also they are overpriced, Most stuff you can buy new in stores. read more

This store is pretty clean and well organized, though the selection isn't as huge as other places. Location-wise, this store is quite convenient--right in front of a Halsted bus stop, and walking distance to great restaurants. However, if you're driving, the parking lot is a bit crazy as it shares its parking with a few other popular stores/restaurants in a strip mall. I will say that the prices here do seem to be a bit high in comparison to other Unique locations, Goodwill, and Salvation Army stores. However, like all thrift stores, if you stop in frequently enough or happen to get lucky, you can find some great stuff. I usually find the best things in the housewares section; the clothing and shoes tend to be more hit or miss, and the furniture section is next to non-existent. Another downside is that there don't seem to be color tags on sale, just the usual half-off Mondays. Overall, this is a decent location, worth a stop in if you're in the area, or want to make a afternoon of it and stop for lunch at the many surrounding restaurants. read more

Its a thrift store, just like any other thrift store. I live a few blocks away so I stop in at least once a week. Whoever makes up the random prices here isn't too insane, but there's the occasional $50 broken VCR. Got some great records and shirts here, and my prized thrift store find of the moment, a fully-functioning CD/LP/Radio/Dual tape deck-was-$500-in-1988 stereo system for $40. Better than the Unique near Archer and Damen. Nightmare parking lot, but hey, at least they have one. read more

I came here about three weeks ago on a Saturday with the 50% off before 3pm. We got there at 2:40-yea, not cool. HOWEVER, I found 2 skirts and a pair of peep-toe shoes and I got them all for $13!!! Yep, what a deal! And the shoes were basically brand new--I don't think they were ever worn outside...ever! I was please all around. read more

Be patient when looking and perhaps, you too, will score a decent find. I also found a black halter Laundry cocktail dress for $6.99 size 4 - one can never have too many black dresses. I have been shopping there for a number of years. I love the store, the ONLY problem I have is with the staff. I purchased a bracelet, and misc items from the store which did not make it into my bag, this is the third time that I did not receive what I paid for. There is NO WAY that I have lost these item. I find the staff to be unfriendly & uncaring. Be careful, people will take items out of your cart (happened to me twice already). I have been told that the pick pockets are in the store, someone stole car keys and took the vehicle. Just be careful and watch what you purchase. This is my favorite thrift store, I usually come here once a month. On Mondays the entire store is half off. I'm talking 15 cent books, dollar shirts, 3 bucks for a pair of jeans. Unique, like many thrift stores requires a lot of searching. Everything is pretty much organized, but on Mondays things get pretty out of hand. In my last visit, I bought. A juicy couture sweater, express shirt, vs pink top, Bitten shirt, old navy shirt, two pairs of nike shorts and a pair of adidas shorts for....... *drum roll* 25 bucks. That's amazing especially compared to places like Plato's closet. Since I've discovered this place the only thing I buy new now are jewelry and shoes. I've heard stories of people buying designer shoes like Louboutins here but i've never been that lucky =/ The Good - Cheap! - Designer clothes like Juicy Couture, 7 jeans, true religion, Vera Wang stuff like that. The Bad - The store smells like really strong perfume. - The tags are stapled to the clothes, so you have to be careful when taking them off so you don't rip them. - Some clothes have stains and rips on them so be sure to watch out before buying. - Requires A LOT of searching, but it's worth it. 5 stars :-) Best thrift store in chicago! read more

I almost want to keep the 50% off everything Monday on the hush hush. The best time to go is morning, but be warned of the crowds. I dont usually find clothing for me being a plus size but that doesnt stop me from coming in.(I did, however, find nice brand name dresses for my sister from Express, Gap, etc) On my last couple of visits I walked away with three huge bags of books, which are 20 cents a piece on their discount days, found great frames for a dollar, and nice fabric for a dollar as well. The store is nicely kept and organized but definately need more carts. My mom and I found ourselves waiting in the front a couple of times for a shopping cart. Overall, for thrift finds, I give you a three, mostly because I hate waking up before noon when the good finds have already found a home. What they are lacking in is customer service, not very nice or welcoming attitude about the employees. Ask them to find a price and they will bring the item back with a tag a lot higher than it should be. Also, the chairs they have for sale always have an employee taking a break on them. read more

As thrift stores go, I consider the entire Unique chain to be just above mediorcre in prices but definitely out of this world in terms of the kinds of merchandise that can be found. My best find ever at this particular store, and let me state for the record that I shop at thrift stores at least 3 x's a week..yes I am an addict and my closet reflects it, was 4 pairs of couture quality shoes. Two pairs of BRAND NEW Bruno Magli heels that were beyond beautiful. One pair I still have not worn is a kelly green lizard slingback with matching kidskin leather surrounding, the other a gorgeous pair of navy suede 3" cone heels that can be worn year round...the other two were Joseph brand and custom made in Italy. I feel bad to say that some woman that just happened to have a shoe fetish in my size must have died...but I was the one that was in heaven. My ex-boyfreind had taken me to this store and given me a $50 limit as a belated birthday gift. I got the shoes for about $6 a piece and spent the rest on items I can no longer recall. These shoes were the best b-day present I have recieved in years. So...guys for all you wondering what to get your lady for Valentines day...b-day...x-mas...when you are in the doghouse in general. Here it is: take her on a thrift store shopping spree you never know what she will find and remember for the rest of her life. These 4 pairs of shoes are probably valued at least $200 a piece and I paid $24 bucks for all four pairs! I have lost all trust in this store. I bought a toy that did not work when I hit the on button. Since I do not carry a screwdriver and batteries on me, I trusted that the store checked it out before slapping a price tag on it and figured it only needed new batteries. When I got home, I opened the battery compartment and found a big yellow sticky note inside that said 'BROKEN'. What kind of a store would sell a child's toy knowing it was broken? The store's no return policy makes this even worse. read more

I have never found anything to wear at this store--and a quarter of my wardrobe seems to be from Village Thrift, particular the quarter populated by cashmere and stuff from Paris. But on the sodden afternoon of 12/31/10 I walked in here off the street and forked over a few dollars for a quartet of clunky square ruby glass ashtrays with tasteful Campari labels on the bottom, and a three-quart Calphalon nonstick saute pan (sans lid) that makes reheating leftovers effortless, and which would have cost a hundred bucks new. And I also revisited my lost youth in the process by listening to bad 1980s pop music that I had been exposed to long ago and had mercifully forgotten, while rummaging through racks of bad 1980s and 1990s clothing of a type that I had been exposed to long ago but had mercifully forgotten. This part of the experience was worse than psychotherapy, but I was able to staunch the flow of traumatic memory a few minutes later and a few blocks south at Bernice's Tavern, where the enchanting Michael mixed me a manhattan and presented me with a free Lithuanian beer.
