USD has several locations but this one at the Time Out Market Boston was pretty stocked. Lots to choose from but the Tiramisu Cinnamon Bun called my name and who was I to not heed that call. I'm glad I did! Probably THE BEST cinnamon bun I've ever had at room temperature. I wish I could've heated it up but I understand it would've messed up the topping. Topping was AMAZING! Service was quick. Lots of seating in the market considering it was a business day. Prices were reasonable. Not the best but reasonable. We ordered 11 donuts this morning, and only received 10. When we called the store regarding this mistake the person on the phone became very defensive and accused our DoorDash driver of stealing one of the donuts, despite there being no evidence of our order being tampered with. The box was taped shut and delivered on time; and I highly doubt a driver would risk their job to steal a donut. I don't care about the donut or the refund at this point, but I am disgusted with the how store threw a likely innocent delivery driver under the bus and handled the situation. I have had this place 4-5x and recommend for gourmet donuts. The ingredients and quality are on a much different level then other donut shops. The flavors always offer such a nice variety and they have ability order online. Parking can be tough for this location but worth it. Out of the 6 (chocolate glazed, French crueler, plain, glazed, brown butter hazelnut crunch, sugar) our whole family agreed that French crueler was the winner by a landslide. The texture was very chewy and the glaze on top was not sweet at all which was perfect I'd recommend them in this order: French crueler Glazed Plain ( it was surprisingly very good, a good balance of salty and sweet) Brown butter hazelnut crunch Chocolate glazed Sugar Overall, if you're in Boston for a visit and / or want to try some quality donuts, I definitely think this place is worth going to. read more

The Crème Brûlée donut is the best iteration of that donut I've had. The caramel is deep golden brown and the donut is stuffed with an eggy, rich vanilla custard! All the best parts of crème brûlée embodied in a donut. Elsewhere is always a disappointing vanilla pudding filled sugary mess, but Union Square Donuts made this perfectly. The Vietnamese Coffee donut didn't taste particularly like Vietnamese coffee, but was really good. Not too sweet, a perfect midday snack. Will be back to try the Boston cream! We got Union Square Donuts to go for a weekend brunch. Their indoor seating is closed for now due to COVID, however, they have two small tables for outside seating. Order is taken through a window and the order will be placed on the table near the entrance- totally contactless. I am impressed by how seriously they take COVID, even when indoor seating regulation is lifted. I have no doubt they are reliable for safety! What we ordered: Honey glaze $3.25 Maple bacon $3.75 Belgian dark chocolate $3.50 Each donut is quite big and it is perfect to order various flavors amongst others so you can get a bite of different flavors. It is quite doughy instead of light and fluffy. The level of moisture is perfect and all of them were not greasy. I actually like how subtle and delicate the flavor is for the doughnut- their icing is quite strong and is a perfect balance with the doughnut. The maple bacon was my favorite. I'm someone that loves a fruity donut and after Union Square Donuts discontinued the Jumble-berry donut (still hoping it comes back one day) all of their donuts have been on the heavier side. Since I don't really like chocolate glazed donuts, the amount of options for me are cut in more than half. Of course, if you love chocolate or maple bacon or cookies and cream, this is not a problem for you, but I really wish they brought back some of their lighter, fruitier flavors year-round. Just updating to add comments/photos about their chocolate cake donut. Pros: -HUGE! -They have at least 3 types of vegan donuts in rotation! -Creative flavors -Sometimes they have MINI DONUTS. Just the cutest thing you've ever seen + portion control -Staff are super helpful and reserved an additional donut for me with my Valentine's Day mini order Cons: -Yeast dough is super heavy and a bit greasy--eat 1-2 of these donuts and you will really feel it. Not a light and fluffy situation -Cake donuts a little dry -Vegan donuts are about half the size of the non-vegan version, and they only had one left at 10am on a Saturday (they open at 7)--get there early! -Pricey @ $3-4 each, but on par with competitors like Blackbird -- Chocolate Cake ($3.21, December special) Glazed chocolate cake donut. Had a slight crisp on the outside and was soft on the inside. The bottom half without the glaze was pretty dry but the top glazed section was moist and really enjoyable! Good cocoa flavor. Best donut I've had from USD. Birthday Cake Old Fashioned ($3) Old fashioned donut dipped in chocolate (not fully covered) and covered to the max with sprinkles. Slightly crispy on the outside, but a bit soggy with grease. It was somewhat soft but a little dry on the inside. The chocolate and sprinkles on top were the best part. Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch This seemed to be the standout "must try" recommendation on Yelp. It's a good looking donut and I liked the brown butter glaze's subtly sweet taste. However, the thick hazelnut coating was way too nutty for my taste, and made the donut seem rather dry to me. If you're a Ferrero Rocher fan, this is not actually the donut for you (despite what other reviews may say) because it will just make you crave a chocolate component that this donut is missing. I wouldn't recommend this one unless you're nuts for hazelnuts. Cinnamon Sugar (Vegan) Surprisingly similar in dough taste/texture to the non-vegan donut, which impressed me! I've had some horrible vegan donuts and that's not the case here. However, the cinnamon sugar coating was fairly bland (more a textural add than anything) and seemed to make it more dry. Boston Cream The chocolate topping is too rich/bitter, and the dough is incredibly heavy. The bright side is the vanilla custard, which is very light. Blackbird's BC is executed better (less bitter chocolate and a *little* less heavy), but I wouldn't recommend that one either. MINIS ($17 for 6, Valentine's Day Special Order): All yeast raised. The dough is somewhat fluffy but fairly chewy and unfortunately pretty greasy. Orange Cardamom Poppy Thought I'd hate this one, but the orange was subtle and the flavor was light and refreshing. My favorite! Champagne Glaze Pretty subtle, nice slight tartness. Second best. Brown Butter Hazelnut Crunch The butter really comes through, and has somewhat of a savory taste. Vanilla Bean Fine, but kind of boring. Belgian Dark Chocolate The chocolate felt too thick and slightly bitter at first, but grew on me a little after a few bites. For some reason the dough on this one was even chewier and less fluffy than the others, which was a letdown. Chocolate Strawberry This one was SUPER artificially strawberry-tasting. My girlfriend said it tasted like an episode of Cake Wars where one baker says "Oh, you added the fake strawberry flavor? But I already added it!!!" The most beautiful but worst one, unless you like fake strawberry. -- Overall, I love the fun flavors and ADORE the option of Mini donuts. However, the dough here is just so heavy! I am no stranger to eating 4+ donuts a day (call it a problem if you want, I won't respond because I'll be too busy eating my next donut) and feeling great, but after eating a little more than 1 of these donuts I felt sick. If you're a person that wants one heavy donut every now and then, this might be your spot, but if you like light and fluffy donuts, seek elsewhere. I was really impressed with the mix of traditional donuts and inspiration lifted from other forms of patisserie and/or cooking. The donuts (five for me because today I'm five years sober! and one for my partner) look amazing and I'm going to have the best time getting through them all throughout the day.
