I was very underwhelmed by Union Pub. All i ask for in a pub-style bar is decent bar food, good service & reasonable prices. Union Pub fell short on all three. My salad was limp, soggy & very unpalatable. The tater tots "bucket" was a one-person serving in a basket. Our beers were outrageously priced (apparently only bud products were anywhere near reasonable), and our service was ridiculous. When you spend the majority of your time looking around for your server, it's a bad night. I'm definitely not likely to return! read more

I have been to this place a few times for beer. This past weekend I went with a friend for brunch. They were playing the Wimbledon finals on the huge screen they have outside. The place was not crowded and the young waitresses were very nice. I had tried their wings and tater tots before which were good, but never their brunch selection. My friend had the Eggs Chesapeake and I had the Stuffed French Toast. I could not be happier with my selection. The toasts were not soggy and had good flavor, the cream cheese/ blueberry filling was delicious. I couldn't tell you how the Eggs Chesapeake were because sadly I am allergic to shellfish :( We didn't order any alcohol so I could not tell you I usually stay away from some of the bars on the Hill because of the crowds. But on a Sunday Morning, the Pub seemed like a great place to sit down and chat with a friend and I will definitely go back as it is only a few blocks from my place. read more

I can see how the patio would be nice to sit and chat with friends. The indoor space is also pretty spacious and comfortable. But other than that, not much to write home about. The drinks were not very strong (and I needed them to be today!) and there was no beer special for happy hour. The happy hour special seems like a GREAT deal ($2.50 for rail drinks), but in reality, the drinks are not strong enough to even pay that much. This is a great place right off Capital hill. It has a large patio for outdoor eating on nice days. The food here is very good and reasonably priced. They also have very good specials each day of the week for adult beverages. My favorite items are the jalapeño carnitas sandwich, the quesadillas, and the wings. For starters, pretty much everybody that works here is awesome. That is the single best aspect of this bar. The people that work there are great, not the clientele, the actual workers. Everything at the Pub is very fairly priced. There are ridiculous specials pretty much all the time, and even when there aren't specials, there are cheap options anyway (PBR cans, etc.) The prices here, for a bar right next to the Capitol, are beyond fair. If you want to hang out with yuppy, self-entitled Hill staffers, then come here for happy hour during the week and drown yourself in self-importance. You won't be alone. Otherwise, the best time to be here is on the weekend. Watch any sporting event you want (again, the staff here is awesome), grab a bloody mary, sit outside, and take comfort in the fact that you're not a tool who thinks the world revolves around them. Union Pub is solid neighborhood bar that is in the unfortunate business of bending over backwards for losers, but I guess they have to in order to be profitable. We ordered martinis, which were decent (really it is hard to mess up a martini), but got the check when our drinks arrived as we were not sure we'd ever see the waitress again, and really just stopped in for a nightcap. If you are a 20something Senate intern or page who wants to get drunk and complain about your boss this is the place to go. It's great to have a few drinks and relax on the patio--which is right up the street from union station--it's in the middle of a little intersection but seems secluded at the same time. I can't say enough about how horrible the service was at this place. We stopped in on a Sunday and it was obvious that no one wanted to work. We waited over 15 minutes for someone to even acknowledge that we were there. They acted like it was an inconvenience to serve us. We were actually told our server will be over "when she's ready." I guess this is a good college dump to get drunk at and puke on the floor because I can't see how anyone would return after what we experienced. I used to go here all the time because it was within walking distance to my old place and it has a yappy hour thing where you can bring your dogs, and they didn't bat an eye when I showed up with my boys...who are Pitts. It's hit or miss though. Sometimes you go and they have a good crowd, and other times you go and it's dead. Sometimes you go and the server is on point, the next time the server hardly greets you and stands at the bar with the other servers chit chatting for ten minutes and then finally comes and asks you what you want only to tell you that the first two items you requested are exactly what they are out of. The food it standard bar food, but I finally quit this place when they took the hot pretzel off the menu. Shame on you, beer and pretzels just make sense. read more

Not sure how this is during the week, but I went on a Sunday for late brunch and had a really pleasurable experience. The food was really good, especially considering it's a basic pub (the tomato sauce on the Tuscany Omelet is dangerously delicious) and their beer selection is fantastic. The server was super sweet and very knowledgeable about all of the beers on the list, offering suggestions and talking at length about her own personal favorites. It was a really pleasant, enjoyable experience sitting outside- they're dog friendly, too, which led to the pleasant experience. Let me tell you she was very professional and I see why she was hired for this job. Amazing service!! Checked out Union Pub in advance of a bday happy hour - I liked it! Service at the bar was good, and the draft list is varied and interesting. The pepperoni grilled cheese is solid, and the tater tots are really good as well. They have a lot of different happy hour specials throughout the week, though they seem to mostly focus on the Bud Light crowd (I'm more of a craft beer fan). The well drinks seem to always be super cheap-- not sure if it's because I always get an amazing bartender, but I never remember paying more than $5 for a well drink no matter the time of day.
