Had these guys come and install a water heater just before Christmas. (this was the second time we have asked this company to our house) Still waiting for someone to come back to Trinidad to fix a leak in the newly installed water heater. Damaged our floor and is still leaking. Almost a month has gone by and now we're not getting any kind of response from them. No plans to come and even take a look at their own work. Just wanted our money before the holidays. Family of four and now we have to come up with more money to fix the water heater AND the floor. We installed a new Nest Thermostat and the furnace was not blowing out hot air. Joe took at least 30 mins running up and down between the main floor and basement to double check everything in the furnace. He finally concluded that the Nest Thermostat is defective. At the end, he charged us $65 as he stated on the call. Joe is very professional and honest. We definitely will call him for all the AC's matters. We highly recommend him! read more

We bought our house in the winter. First time we go to turn on the A/C...nothing. No air flow. After some Yelp research, we reached out to Under The Sun and Joe responded very quickly and came out the same day! He communicated well about everything from the beginning, including being up-front about the cost for him to come out. We are very happy with his service! He came right out, diagnosed the issue, and let us know what the cost would be (which was reasonable) before proceeding. He showed me everything, talked me through what the issue was, and even made some recommendations to keep it in good shape. Joe came to our house to repair the a/c. He diagnosed the system needed cleaning and refrigerant adjustment. He charged us $575 for that service. That did not fix the problem. We called/texted/voiced mail Joe multiple times to set up an appointment to re-diagnose the system and he never called back or replied. We wasted our time and money. Too bad he's starting his business on the wrong foot. We could've given him more future work and referred him to family/friends. read more

Over this summer when temperatures were over 100 degrees our central air unit was not working and being home was miserable. I called and was connected with Joe. I explained what was going on with the central air and he was able to squeeze us in his schedule that evening. He showed up right when he said he would he even called to say he was a few minutes away and in just a few minutes after arriving he was able to diagnose the problem. Jose was really responsive. He texted to confirm and then let me know he had an earlier option open up, and came right over. The problem I had been seeing, of course, didn't show up when he was there, but he still checked out the whole system and did a cleaning for the same price as the service call. Wow, before I get into it, I couldn't recommend Under the Sun Heating and Cooling more! Not only did Joe save me THOUSANDS of dollars, his professionalism, timeliness, and honesty are second to none. I had 4 other businesses come into my house to give me quotes for installing air conditioning, and they were all well over $10,000. Joe came in and was the only person to make the effort to look at my existing furnace. He very well could have told me what other people did, but he walked me through how he could work with what I already had in place to install air conditioning with replacing anything and without cutting additional holes in my ceiling/floor. Joe was the last person I had come by my house, but the first to text me with updates and quotes. Joe wouldn't even accept payment for the job until EVERYTHING was complete, even though it was over the course of multiple visits and multiple hours. Our A/C went out during a heat wave. These guys were at our house the same day to get it up and running. Lifesavers! The tech was very knowledgeable and friendly. He had the issue diagnosed in minutes and didn't leave until glorious cool air was blowing again. He was super thorough, testing the system till he was satisfied the problem was fully solved. He answered all of my questions, and even gave me a few maintenance tips to keep it running strong. Every time he came in the house he put his foot covers on to not track dirt in the house. Please read this entire review. We contracted with Under the Sun Heating and Cooling, Mr. Joe Mendez on November 2, 2021 to replace the heating and air conditioning systems in our home. Joe was great to work with during the design and installation of the systems. I was honest with Joe when we signed the contract that I was a nervous about hiring a one person company that had only been in business a few months but that we prefer to deal with small businesses and wanted to go ahead and give him a chance. He began with the installation of the furnace on November 3rd and completed the initial charge of the a/c system on December 3, 2021. Joe requested half down on November 2nd and another payment on November 22nd so he could pay the warehouse for the equipment. We paid the remaining balance on December 3 with the understanding that Joe would submit the Xcel rebate ( estimated $500) application shortly after and that he would return on May 9,2022 to complete the installation. He agreed to complete the repair of the brick where the exhaust and intake pipes were installed and balance the a/c system when the weather was warmer to ensure it would operate properly. In addition he committed to answer any questions that we had with the systems and warranty the installation and operation of the system for 1 year. I contacted Joe in late December by phone to find out the status of our rebate submission. He indicated he needed a certification of some type from Xcel and that he would be getting that the first week of January 2022. I called Joe the week of January 10th, no answer so I left him a voicemail message requesting a status. I did not receive a return call. I left a second voicemail later that week, requesting a status, no return call. I sent him a text on January 17th, no response. I contacted Xcel to see if they could give me any information on the status of the rebate. They indicated that Joe had not received the required certification and no rebate application had been submitted. I was able to submit the application for the rebate associated with the furnace but they require that a certified installation technician submit the rebate application for the a/c system. I sent Joe a second text on January 20th giving him an update on the furnace rebate and asking if he plans to complete the certification and submit the application, no response. My 5th attempt to contact Joe was an email message on February 3, 2022. I recapped my attempts to contact him and told him my assumption is that since I have received no response to any of 4 previous attempts that he has no intention of submitting the rebate and that I am just out the $200-300. I also asked him 2 additional questions: 1) "If we have questions or problems with the installation, operation or performance of our heating and a/c system are you available and will you respond? " and 2)" Do you plan to keep our May 9th appointment to complete installation of our systems as you committed? We agreed that the a/c system needs to be balanced (since it was installed in the winter) and the repair of the brick around the intake and exhaust pipes need to be completed." I also indicated "If I do not receive a response and commitment from you in the next few days I will assume that I need to find another company to provide those services." As of March 22nd NO RESPONSE! I told him how disappointed we were and that we gave a newly established one man company an opportunity and he let us down. I even recommended (early on) Joe to my son for a much larger heating and a/c system replacement. He did stop by my sons house and promised to send him an estimate but never did. To date, I have not received a response to any of the 5 attempts to communicate. Under the Sum Heating and Cooling, Joe Mendez did not complete the installation, never submitted the rebate application for the a/c unit and is apparently not going to honor (or at least won't commit) the installation warranty as promised.
