This antique store and I was just a tourist today. Lots to look at, lots to examine, lots of interesting history going on here. You'll find things that you will not find anywhere else, not even on eBay. Road signs, ash trays, taxidermy, weird designs of plates and cups and saucers, books, wall signs, globes, lamps, old postcards, too many to name. Prices range from cheap to expensive, as things tend to do. It's definitely worth a browse. [Review 10191 overall, 1777 of 2018.] read more

A little overpriced and the staff is very rude. They look down their noses at you like they're so much better than you.

An antique store by any other name would delight much. Lots of fun slowly perusing and exploring with a friend. The staff were so friendly. I truly believe they would have taken every item out of the jewelry case for me if I asked, and I asked them to take out a lot! I never got the sense that I was a nuisance like I have felt at other places. Loved visiting this place during my time in Austin! read more

I admit, I'm eccentric. I collect things. Weird things. I get a wild hair, and I have to have it. In comes UnCommon Objects. For whatever reason, while at lunch, I decided I wanted a mummified bat. Correction: Needed a mummified bat. Well, here it is. A dried bat in my hands less than an hour later. Uh, thanks I guess? read more

My yearning for a trinket is much more uncommon than I can say. I may slither through the aisle searching my beady eye for a an object I will capture. What joy. My wife will never recover after reading the price on the receipt but she will not judge after she casts her gaze upon the glorious marsupial. Cheers! read more

Was in the neighborhood and saw this cute little place. We easily found parking right in front of the store and noticed lots of people of all ages walking in. As I walked in there was an array of unique items that really intrigued me to walk in and enjoy the hunt for something fun. Everything was nicely displayed and sometimes color coded, which I particularly loved. This place was filled with trinkets, old photos, records and the list goes on. This place is a wonder trove of things from the past, so if you like that sort of stuff, this place is for you! My husband found an amethyst crystal that was very unique and reasonably priced at $40. At check out the staff was very nice and wished us good day. If you have time, check out this place and have fun check out all the fun finds! read more

You can really get lost in this shop. No literally lost, but like lost in thought. So many things to look at and can be a bit overwhelming. Although it may look chaotic in the shop, it's actually quite well organized. I enjoy how they group some things by different shades of the same primary color. So many interesting things I have never seen before and makes you wonder what the stories are behind some items. I especially enjoyed looking through a box of old photographs. I bent down to reach for a shiny metal device and started squeezing the handle and turning the screw thingy, when this lady started laughing and asked if I knew what I was holding? Obviously I didn't, so she told me it was a gynecological device. I just didn't have any words after that. I dropped it back where I found it, and walked away praying and hoping it was sanitized. A great shop to explore and look at some cool stuff. One could easily spend hours before realizing it. Prices are well, pricey. Take a peruse if in the area and you might just walk away with a treasure or two. read more

If you Google "Weird things to do in Austin"(or something like that), Uncommon Objects will likely come up. If you've never been inside an antique store, this place will be novel and exciting. If you're a geeky weirdo like me who has been to many a antique store in America, small and large, this place is still relatively fun but not thrilling and not the best use if your time if have limited vacation time in Austin. If dead animals creep you out, such as dead mice heads glued onto toy dolls and holiday cards, then you might want to avoid this place. Friendly and welcoming staff! Amurr'ca! read more

More like "uncommonly expensive objects". Cool shop and all, but why is everything extremely overpriced? The shop was full of people, but not once did I see anyone buy anything. Seems more like a tourist trap than an actual vintage store. read more

This place is filled with some of the most eclectic, weird, downright cool, and 100% not haunted items. I fell in love with a taxidermy bull mastiff they have by the front door. It's enormous, like the size of a bear. I know that dog has a story to tell, I need to know where it came from! That's next to a bust of an Abraham Lincoln and some excellent taxidermy specimens on the wall. This place is great for gifts for your quirky loved one or your bruja friend. The people are nice here too. read more

Uncommon Objects Not your typical junk antique store where items are perfectly organized by color, type and style. Every time I have been here it has always been packed with people (mostly tourists) browsing around. I would define this place like as if someone raided your grandmother's home and sold every little trinket. You can spend hours digging around and even long if you take your parents with you where they will just talked you how they used to use one of these trinkets as a child. If looking for some unusual items for home decor then this place is for you. Enjoy! read more

I adore this place! I've been to many antique shops, but this really screams 'antique'. I love how everything here is oh so different. There isn't two of the same things. It's pretty big, but the amount of amazing things to see will definitely have you waking around, "ooh-ing" and "ahhh-ing" at everything! read more

Now this place isn't for everyone but if you like odd stuff, cool trinkets, history this place is awesome. I could spend hours wandering around looking at things. It's like American pickers meets pawn stars meets ricks restoration. The place seems a little intimidating the staff is friendly there too. Some stuff can be spendy but can't put a price collectibles or things that are one offs. read more

Great little vintage store if you are looking for something to do. The store is much easier to get to with no parking issues and really laid and staged beautifully. They have a huge inventory with a lot of cool things however the prices are pretty outrageous. So all of you resellers looking to flip stuff - this will be a total waste of your time. Antique / vintage store prices have definitely gone up like everything else since the pandemic. Either way, it's a cool store to browse, you will definitely find some interesting items here. read more

The title says it all. Definitely very many uncommon objects in this store. Some creepy, some odd (such as a giant ball made out of a ton of buttons and wire), some historical, and some unique. I was interested in the various ethnic, cultural, and religious artifacts they had on display, as well as the stuffed animals and artwork. Cool store! read more

If you're ever looking for clear evidence on what keeps Austin weird (their slogan, not mine), you need to come to this wildly eclectic thrift shop that has anything and everything a dedicated tschotske collector could possibly want in his or her overstuffed home. Located on South Congress Avenue where its innate funkiness probably influences the retail attitude of this entire stretch of South Austin pavement, Uncommon Objects is the type of store where browsing becomes sport. There is an organized sense of chaos in here because you feel the tireless staff knows exactly where everything is displayed. Costume jewelry for every taste including the tasteless. Toothpicks with bulls' heads on top to indicate the temperature of your steak. Vintage tumblers that carry maps of every state in the union (probably before Alaska and Hawaii even became states). Taxidermied chicks that look almost too real. Signs for every type of small business. Antique dolls that have a macabre touch of "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?" about them. A stack of Bibles (see photo). Yes, you can finally swear on a stack of Bibles. Oh forget it, no one will believe you. eBay fanatics should take some sedatives before entering because you may get light-headed from the massive inventory of self-described "junk". If you end up leaving the store without making some purchase no matter how kitschy the item, then you showed more goodwill than I was willing to demonstrate in here. See my photos to get a good sense of what you're missing... read more

EVERYONE can find something to love about Uncommon Objects. If you like antiques, bingo. If you like junk, got you covered too. If you like pretty much any era of the 20th century, start hunting because you'll probably find something from your favorite decade. If you're the type who likes to imagine the past lives of all these treasures, your creative juices will really get flowing. It's busy on the week-end, so if you want to avoid elbow-jostling you may wish to go on a week-day. Most people are patient and realize that if you are hunched down over a box of postcards you will be a while and so they'll cycle back later. Prices are not rock bottom, because this is not a thrift, it's more of an antique mall. Still, nothing struck me as absolutely outrageous. This is a great place to go on a boring day to inspire your mind. Check out the range of strange that's out there and enjoy yourself among the Uncommon. read more

Amazing. So many things. Taxidermy has a whole other realm here (I'm a big fan of old school frames & the eyes were made of lead glass), it's an oddities museum where you can pretty much purchase the displays. Depending on the booth, the prices fluctuate between reasonable ($350 for a taxidermy bobcat) to outrageous. That being said, it's amazingly fun to walk around & gasp. I'll be back when I have more permanent living quarters. read more

My boyfriend and I had heard about Uncommon Objects and decided to pass by since we were going to be in Austin. There is parking right in front of the store and we were able to park right away. The store was a lot bigger than I thought it would be, and had TONS to look at. Prices were a bit higher than I thought, but I think that it is reasonable considering they are unique items/antiques (I think on average, most things started at $20, but I did see some small things like photos for $1.) There are photos, lamps, dish sets, statues, dolls and old toys, and lot's of things that could be used for decorating. I think each section is managed by a different person, and I know at least one of them is open to negotiation on pricing (so maybe everyone is?) Overall, it is a cool place and I would like to come back with more time to really look at everything. read more

Very disappointing. Not friendly staff, Extremely over priced and nothing you cant see in any old antique mall. I understand paying a premium for curated vintage and antiques but the prices in this place were far above market value. I deal with vintage and antiques in LA and NY and never see these prices. Dont know how this place is still open. I am not complaining about it being expensive - i am saying its OVER priced. Pretty decent selection but nothing worth writing home about or worth paying 5x market value for. I was excited to see this place and am now leaving empty handed and bummed read more

Uncommon Objects - $80 box , not even that old, the same size as my hand ??? - Antiques Near Me - Austin, Texas

In case you didn't know Uncommon Objects is no longer located on South Congress - they moved! The new location is in south Austin just north of 71, not too far from Radio Coffee and practically next door to Casino South Side. The new spot is nice. I honestly couldn't tell if it was bigger or smaller than the old spot, but it is definitely laid out differently. A huge benefit to the new place I would say is the open area in the back. I am not sure what they will use this for on the regular, but for the grand opening party they had tables set up outside, a DJ, food and a bar. It was pretty cool! I could totally see someone hosting a small event back there if it were an option. Uncommon Objects is full of neat, unique and special treasures. If you are into antiques or know some that is this is the perfect place to shop. Sometimes things can be on the pricey side, but there are definitely some good finds here. The staff is always super friendly too. Uncommon Objects is an Austin icon and I was sad to see them have to leave their South Congress location. I am however super excited to see what this new chapter brings to them and to South Austin! read more

Uncommon Objects - Great finds. Got two of these shelves. - Antiques Near Me - Austin, Texas

This was a very interesting Mojave. Had some wicked cool stuff, way weird, but I have to say, a lot is way over priced. One such item was an old tile desk top fan, looking at it the fan is vintage looking for sure, but closer inspection shows it's not old, it's a replica, and they wanted $1200 for this fan!!!!! Many other items we liked but the prices for a $50-60 normal purchase was over $200. Way excessive, but.... People are paying the rates, and they were busy. It's a definite cool place for off the wall and strange items, definitely worth a stop, tho bring a big credit card. read more

Each time i'm in town, I make a stop here. I never know what i'll find and even if I dont find anything to purchase, I still have a good time perusing. Each stall has a bit of a different vibe and it is well stocked. I've never seen a stall lacking in product--so what i'm saying is if vintage/antique shopping in your thing (especially if looking for some oddities type objects) this is the place for you. Parking: a few spots at the front that seem to always be filled, but plenty of room in the back. Payments: accepts card and I believe as of last visit, there is a small discount for cash payment and their was a note by the register that a service fee is applied for card payments. Here I don't recall if there was a minimum and then a fee is applied, but if you have cash and want all funds to go to support local then there you go. read more

Cool but insanely expensive. Some things where not vintage just used, but where being sold for double it's new price (knifes and watches you should look out for). Employees not super helpful and couldn't really tell you anything. A place I don't want to see go but maybe get more accurate prices and more knowledgeable employees. Meh after hearing so much about Uncommon Objects, I was let down. It's an expensive retro junkyard to sift through, and nothing amazed me or jumped out at me. This South Congress store is packed from floor to ceiling with baubles, books, silverware, home decor, dolls, furniture, jewelry, taxidermied animals, and, apparently everyone's favorite, weird antique photos. I don't know why anyone would buy strangers' photographs, but it's there. It has an all-around vintage vibe, so if you're going for that sort of thing for your home, bring your credit card. Otherwise, it's okay to walk through for ten minutes, but nothing struck my fancy. I guess not my style. read more
