The exterior has not changed in over 40 years, it is on the corner of Bush & Powell streets and you can't miss it if you are ever on the Powell Street cable cars. The interior has been updated and now they have a full service kitchen. On this visit, we ordered: Antipasto salad- a well portioned salad with salami, Swiss and mozzarella cheese, ham, tomatoes, pepperoncini, red onions on a lettuce bed, tossed with Italian dressing. Fresh, tasty and a good sized portion to share. Mountain pizza - pepperoni, salami, sausages, onions, peppers, with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese. What a great pizza should taste like. Has not changed after all these years. This visit brought back many fond memories, but even more so because the restaurant still serve very genuine food. read more

We visited Uncle Vito's Pizza on my husband's birthday, right before heading to Quest Room. Since he's a big fan of pizza, we decided to give this nearby spot a try, and we're so glad we did! We didn't have high expectations going in, but the pizza turned out to be incredibly fresh and full of flavor. We both love a good crunchy crust with plenty of toppings, and this place nailed it. I especially enjoyed the one with zucchini. It was delicious! The ambience is okay, they have outdoor seating which is a good bonus for a nice weather. Had a great meal at Uncle Vito's. Archie was our server and was terrific. Very attentive to our needs. My husband had a Turkey with Avocado and cheese sandwich and I had the Spaghettini Olio. The bread for the sandwich was soft but held up to the turkey and avocado. The pasta was so fresh and garlicky. The broccoli was cooked perfectly. A great meal and wonderful atmosphere. A group of friends 11 total (2 kids /9 adults) went to Vito's as one friend in the group had been coming to Vito's for 20 years and raved about the food. Well, when seated the group was separated for some odd reason . Strangely , the group sitting upstairs 5 adults had vacant tables around their area. Just made no sense how the group couldn't sit together. From what other reviews report similar situations. Food : Pasta primavera was excellent . It came with fettuccine with mushrooms, olives, artichokes, broccoli, cream sauce and I added chicken . Ordered a house salad, garlic bread . Portions large enough to share. Came here for a quick dinner. they were fairly busy but we seated immediately. The waitress was awesome and took care of us really well. The food was decent - the pasta dishes we tried were good, but not great. The pizza was one of the better pizzas amongst the local eateries. Really enjoyed our meal at Uncle Vito's. I had Sienna fettuccini - delicious! Hubby had bbq burger - loved it. Was about 9 pm on a Sunday, we felt quite safe walking to the restaurant. We were seated right away, and attended to regularly. The staff were friendly. The portions are generous. The space can be noisy when several tables have patrons engaged in lively conversation. We ordered takeout: garlic bread, caesar salad, mountain pizza. I would have to say this place was pretty darn good. We got in on a later flight and this place was open near our hotel. We were happy to see a restaurant open somewhat later so we quickly dropped our bags and headed there. We got a pizza and deep fried raviolis. Both were good. I enjoyed the raviolis more than the pizza but then again I am probably used to a different style of pizza then they served here. As we were there, many people stopped by to grab a slice, dine in and just come by to hang out which made me think this was the place to be. The inside was aok, just like a "regular" pizza joint, nothing fancy but it was clean and had a joyful atmosphere. The waitress was quite busy since she was working alone but got our order correct and was nice and courteous. We love this place. The food is pretty darn good and we've tried almost everything on the menu. We fell in love with the calzone this last trip. We shared one amongst 4 of us with our meals. I had a big fresh tasty salad and we shared some different pastas, too. The crew is friendly and busy moving around or making fresh food right in front of you in the open kitchen area. Seating downstairs is limited,like everything in SF. We've sat upstairs and that is small but cool. Uncle Vito's is a family favorite whenever we go to the city on the hill. read more

We're in San Francisco for the week and tried to find something walking distance from our hotel and found this place through Yelp. Definitely didn't disappoint. We got the largest size Calzone and definitely underestimated the size - it was huge and so delicious! We came to visit the Bay Area from LA. We ordered the Fettuccine Siena pesto pasta, a calzone and their most known pizza the Mountain. The pasta was 5stars quality. The canzone we ordered with jalapeño, pepperoni and pineapple. The jalapeño was NOT spicey at all (bummer). I give it a 5star to, it was really good. The pizza i rate a 3star, it was average and nothing impacting about it. The service e was decent. This was walking distance from our hotel so super convenient . We got there and were greeted right away. The service was excellent. The waiter was polite checked in during our meal and was taking care of the entire restaurant! ( host,cashier,and waiter) The food was absolutely delicious. The wife and I were in SF visiting the kid, who is in college here. After a long day of exploring the city, the kid had to go to work and we decided to head back to our hotel. We were pretty tired so I found this pizza place about a block away. It seemed like the perfect match to our current state of mind. "Don't want to go to another overpriced restaurant and deal with the crowds." The rating of 3.8 on Yelp was pretty decent for a pizza place in the SF area. Even though they deliver, I wanted to walk (in the rain? really?) to pick it up. So I ordered online and the took the walk. Unfortunately for me, while it was only a block away, the street, like many in SF, was about an 80 degree incline, so I was nice and winded when I reached the peak of Everest where Uncle Vito's was apparently located. My order was not ready, so I sat in the waiting area and grabbed a menu to see what other things they had in case we were back. The cool thing was that my dog must have visited at some time, since all of the menus showed signed of my pup chewing on them. I guess people get hungry in the waiting room. Does it take that long to get the food? When my name was called I grabbed the pizza and asked for some Parm and red pepper flakes. The first guy had no idea what I was asking for and the second guy felt it was tragedy that I asked for this secret elixir of spices to enhance my pizza experience. They reluctantly coughed up some of both. As I was putting them in the bag, I noticed that my side of marinara was not there. So I inquired about that. Another person, who seemed like a manager or owner, was delegated to deal with this high maintenance customer, me. He immediately said that it was an additional charge. "Yes, I do understand that, that is why I paid for it when I ordered it, " I said. He asked for my receipt to confirm I was not trying to embezzle the half cup of marinara. Boom, there it was, plain as day on the receipt. After some "whoop, whoop" and beating my chest, he went and gave me the half filled half cup of marinara. Grabbed my pizza, extras and the bottle of wine I bought there and headed back down Everest to base camp #1. Again, unfortunately for me, the climb down the street was more stressful than going up. It was really pouring now and my sneakers decided that rain and pavement were perfect for some spur of the moment skiing. I was almost leaning against the buildings so I would not slide down the hill and into the street. Made it home safely and the wife said, "what too you so long?" OK, back to the food review. Pizza was half pepperoni and half cheese. Somehow the pepperoni slid to one side and it was not because of the steep decent from the restaurant. The cheese looked really good after I used most of my napkins soaking up the grease. It wasn't bad, I might even try it again by eating at the place. Marinara sauce - for some reason, lately I have liked ordering sauce on the side to dip my pizza. Marinara was meh, and the 1/2 full, 1/2 cup of sauce was not worth the cost. Any cost for that matter Maybe Go. Eat OK or Somewhere Else. HAVE FUN!! read more

Good luck with parking. We ordered takeout and had a rough time finding a place to park for 5 minutes. They don't deliver to 3rd and Townsend area. The lasagna was delicious. It had so much flavor but just a bit too much sauce. The serving size was pretty large. The Ravioli was just ok on the flavor and also heavy on the sauce. The pizza hit the mark on everything. I've been coming here for decades and I must say the current staff are completely untrained amateurs. I arrived when they open at 5 to order a pizza and was told I had to wait with my glass of wine in the back by the restrooms and could not sit at a table. The restaurant was completely empty! It's easy to like pizza and this was good pizza. When we arrived, there were lots of people waiting outside the shop to do take out. We got seated in their little upstairs balcony. No view from up there; its blocked by the kitchen hood (safety first!). Pizza was satisfying, nothing ground breaking but the bread crust was very fresh and high quality. I've come here a couple times now for both takeout and dine in and haven't been disappointed! Uncle Vito's is right by Union Square, so it's the perfect place to stop in between sightseeing in the city. I was able to get a table as soon as I walked in, and the service was quick, which was perfect as we were running late for a Giants game! The pizza was delicious, and we were able to split a large pizza between two people and still have a couple leftover slices. Avoid Uncle Vito's Pizzeria on Bush Street -- A Truly Horrible Experience There are literally a million incredible food options in San Francisco -- do yourself a favor and skip Uncle Vito's Pizzeria. From the moment we stepped inside, it was clear this place wasn't worth our time, energy, or money. We were "greeted" by a man who claimed to be Uncle Vito himself -- and let me tell you, if he's the owner, this place needs a serious wake-up call. He was rude, obnoxious, and completely unprofessional. My adult son was quietly sitting in one of the very limited chairs available to wait when Uncle Vito tripped over him. Instead of offering a simple apology, he scolded my son and told him he wasn't "sitting correctly." It was appalling. As for the food -- from our quick and unfortunate glance, it looked undercooked, boring, and completely unappetizing. The atmosphere was uncomfortable, uninviting, and just unpleasant. Within minutes, I turned to my son and said, "Let's go." That should say it all. San Francisco is a world-class food city. You can find fantastic, welcoming restaurants on nearly every block. This is not one of them. Uncle Vito, if this is how you treat your customers, it might be time to retire -- and definitely not in hospitality. read more
