I stopped by Uncle Seven for lunch and I'd give it a solid 4 out of 5. I ordered the lunch box with chicken wings and fries, and I loved it--the flavor on the wings was amazing, definitely some of the best Asian wings I've had in Norwalk! The only reason I didn't give it a full 5 is because the portion size could've been a little bigger for the price. I think its something they should really consider --there should have been a few more wings and a little more fries. That said, the service when I picked up my order was really good. Everyone was very nice and welcoming. Overall, really good food and a great experience. I'd definitely go back and highly recommend them! read more

The best Chinese food in norwalk. The best ive ever had. Uncle seven is located in the sono mall in norwalk which i absolutely despise, but that's for another review. It's a sit down restaurant that has alcohol options if you're one of the its-5'oclock-somewhere types. It was a dead Tuesday afternoon and I ordered from the lunch special. Beef ginger wok sauce with rice. Good price, ample portions and you can taste the quality. It's not that gross panda express/pf changs filler slop you get from other malls. Perfect sweet and savory combo and fresh veggies and im not a veggie eater. It was too good to take a picture. I felt bad that my server was an elderly man, but he was polite and service was honestly fine. Nothing extraordinary but acceptable and adequate service. Minus an impatient screaming child with an exhausted parent sitting not too far from me it was a peaceful quiet area. What's preventing me from giving it 5 stars is the location. I'm always looking for a good authentic Chinese place and this was just OK. The restaurant itself is really nicely done as are all the eateries at the Sono. The menu is very small, and there were a few things they didn't have available in addition to the small menu, which was frustrating but not a total deal breaker. The apps were ok. My daughter and I were really jonesing for some dumplings and theirs were nothing great. I would recommend skipping the Peking Duck buns - the dough was too thick and there was hardly any duck inside. The lo mein had nice sized pieces of chicken and baby bok Choi which was a nice surprise, but the sauce was way too salty (too much soy sauce) and also too heavy on the garlic. The short rib clay pot was pretty good, fresh veggies and the meat were perfect but the rice was burnt on the bottom and there wasn't enough of it so we were eating crunchy rice with the rest of the dish. It is rare to find a southeast Asian influenced Asian fusion place in the middle of the Fairfield county right at Norwalk! Set in a very spacious and high rise setting, the decor is fairly upscale, though the ambience could be improved if not for the fact the mall closes early in the evenings. The SONO mall hardly offers any other comparable sit down dining choices. The menu items are quite selective and refined. Food is very dense and rich with sauce reduction so the portion is even more generous than it seems. Clay pot dishes are unique and hearty. Downside: the place could be short staffed at times and I've seen patrons walk out after not being served with any drink or water after being seated for a while. We've been to this Chinese restaurant several times and each time their menu and dishes continue to amaze us. Although the restaurant is actually inside the Norwalk Sono Mall top floor, once inside, you'd think you were in a Soho Manhattan restaurant. They recently added a cocktails menu so even better. Cocktails were superb. The food was absolutely delicious and it's presentation was outstanding. Prices were reasonable, excellent portions and their service was incredible. There I was in the SoNo mall having a lovely family outing and my fiance spots Uncle Seven. Nothing gets my bones jumping like some fancy Asian cuisine and let me tell you, if I could've made love to this food. I would've. Service was top notch and son at the front was so kind. Now back to the food. The Mrs started off with some coconut shrimp with a side of sweet tangy sauce. Shrimp was so GAS we forgot to take pics. I the wings, fried to perfection, bathed in a honey chili sauce, scallion and sesame seeds layed on top ever so gently. For our main we each got a lunch bento box, general tsos dark meat for the Mrs, and the sesame chicken white me for. The best sesame chicken I've ever had, the fry was PERFECT, juicy white meat, and the sauce had me ready to ask for it in a cup to drink!! My ONLY regret was not getting a bigger portion. This isn't the best Chinese restaurant out there. My preference is Hong Kong Chinese food, and I usually compare my experiences to the food I've tried in Hong Kong. IMHO, this restaurant isn't authentic Chinese food. It's more Chinese -American, so if you're looking for that, this place elevates it a bit and might be someThing worth trying for you. That said, this is my opinion of the place: The pork siomai is called "dimsum" on their menu and when it arrived was red, split up, and looked dry. There was one piece of siomai that looked cooked - it was weird how they were all the same dumpling, but didn't look anything alike. On the poster at the front of the store, the images of the siomai looked good w a piece of shrimp on top. When it actually gets to you there is no shrimp. And our waiter didn't seem to know anything about what was on the menu. It was frustrating, but eventually another waiter came along, and was able to explain things better. The lo mein was ok. It had a very strong soy sauce flavor -- like, that's all they put in it. I guess it works. But I don't plan to order it again. The fried rice was ok too. Nothing special. I wouldn't order it again. Not for $17 anyway. The sesame chicken was good. A bit sweet but I appreciate that all the pieces were white meat / breast meat. It's a big portion, and is good for "family style" even though the waiter (the first one who didn't know anything) said all portions were single servings and not servings for "family style" -- why is this waiter so oblivious to Chinese food? I saw the Peking duck in the menu and it was a bit too expensive. $89 for a Peking duck -- and the way they did the dimsum (or siomai), I didn't feel like I could trust their Peking duck. Will I come back to this restaurant? Probably not. Not at all worth the high price tag either. Customer service was nice. The knowledgeable waiter acknowledged that the siomai didn't look right. I miss the good old days of having a "Panda Express" restaurant located inside of a mall near me. This place is located on the top floor of the Sono Mall and has a pretty decent area dedicated to it both inside and outside. It seems to be very popular with the mall goers as it has been crowded each time I have been there. The prices are decent, service is quick and the food is tasty too. A lot of the Chinese food places by me that I have been to use a ton of oil and after I eat it I feel sluggish and sick, there are great flavors to be had but there is just too much oil to get to. Not the case with Uncle Seven! I ordered the Kong Pao Chicken with white rice, my business associate ordered the Wok Ginger Glaze and we shared a plate of Vegetable Lo Mein. As soon as the food came out and I smelled it, I was already sold. Our dishes were flavorful, perfectly seasoned and with just the right amount of oil. My Kong Pao chicken has the perfect amount of spice so that it warmed you up and gave a kick but allowed you to taste and savor every flavor. Everything was so fresh, the vegetables had that wonderful soft crispness you expect in a good Chinese food dish. This is by far my favorite Chinese restaurant. We had the pork belly Cantonese pot and the ginger chicken. Both were outstanding. The veggies were perfectly cooked as was the chicken and the pork. So disappointed in this place. We experienced this restaurant while shopping in the mall and it was really good. However, we ordered through Uber Eats and it was horrible. We ordered 2 orders of General Tso chicken for the price of 17.95 and asked for it well done as sometimes it can be too soft and soggy. Well not only was it overcooked but it was visibly burnt. The only reason I can't give this a five star is becauSe the clay pot is never the same. The consistency of their food is a big issue for me. I always order the vegetable tofu clay pot and most of the times is bland and lacking flavor. I only once had it actually full of flavor, but that was the only time out of many. Also the tofu they put in it is so oily, it's almost disgusting how much oil is in my plate from the tofu. It needs to be drained of its oil before added to the plate. Wow! This was a great find! Our first venture into the SoNo Collection mall. We stumbled upon Uncle 7 and we are so pleased we did. The restaurant is spotless and the dining room is well spaced for social distancing. Upon being seated we were informed that Happy Hour was all day Tori ordered a Grapefruit Refresher (see below)... it was tasty and a GOOD pour... it was not sweet at all. $5 I had the hot saki... one of my favorites and this one did not disappoint. $5 We started with cocoanut shrimp... they were large and juicy. Six came in a fry basket with an aioli... they were very good. $13 We ordered the five spice short rib clay pot $18 (glazed short ribs over seasonal veggies and jasmine rice)... it was WONDERFUL! We split it and there was plenty... I wanted to get more, but that was because I have an issue with portion control, not because I was hungry. Our only note, was the main was a little slow coming out (about 20 minutes) but it was well worth it and with half price drinks, time went quickly We will definitely be back (soon!) read more

Uncle Seven is definitely a great new spot. I stopped in here on a Tuesday while checking out the new mall and definitely was drawn to the decor in here. It's very Western and modern but still with some Eastern touches. The menu is simple enough that you're not overwhelmed by choice but there are still the staples that you can choose from. I was drawn to to Coconut Curry because I saw that it had both taro and Japanese eggplant, both of which I loved. I'm still not convinced that what I received is actually coconut curry (see my photo) but they were insisting that it is - seems more like a stir fry with black bean sauce. Either way, whatever it is was really good and packed with all different types of veggies. I would definitely like to try more things here so hope to come back soon! read more

I have been to this place twice already. The 3 items pictured are my go to on the menu. Lo Mein very flavorful with huge shrimp and plated nicely. I usually don't go for sweet food but the honey spicy chicken is amazing!!! There's usually sesame seeds in it but my daughter is allergic so we asked for them to do without them. On to the dumplings!!! They are huge, flavorful and juicy!! The owner is very friendly and checks to see how you're liking the food. I noticed that they don't have many waiters/waitresses, so if you're going around lunch time it can be a struggle trying to get your order taken. Hopefully they hire more staff. This place needs a lot of help. Potential there but serious help is needed. I'll the lo mein was very fresh and tasty. Dumplings as well were good. Otherwise things went way downhill in every way. Please note they have only been opened a week, so I almost feel bad leaving a review but will comE back to try agaIn in a month. Walking in a couple was steaming out saying how bad the service is and not to go in. Yep, service was a disaster. Walter however was awesome, only one seemingly knowing what he was doing. Where do I start, the tables were not cleaned the entire time we were there. Owner was standing around and could have cleaned tables but was oblivious. Waters brought out one seltzer by mistake somehow. Never asked if we wanted drinks. Water spilt no one came to us, asked waitress for water never happened. Soup was ice cold then brought out seemingly microwaved for 5 minus (told otherwise). Bottom line, they need some serious management to fix things, and were caught off guard with not realizing it would be a busy Monday with MLK day. Food done right was very tasty. Farm breed shrimp or fishes are bad for you because the farmer use a lots of antibiotics in their feeding to keep the fishes strong to avoid sickness and diseases. I had been to Uncle Seven for many months and finally write this review. Their lunch menu dishes make me coming back again and again. KG is our favorite server he really deserve my praises. I decided to hold off on leaving a review twice trying to give them a second and third chance but they have defiantly lost their touch. I ordered beef with broccoli and my chicken was RAW! Coming from a place i like so much is disappointing! I went back no apologies given and i can say i was thankfully given a return. But i paid with Apple Pay and he made me run out and get my card(if you pay Apple Pay they don't refund without the physical card) I'm on lunch and have NO time to run back and forth but he made me, either that or they give me a new batch of raw chicken.
