Yesterday I really wanted some good Chinese. I've been out of the tri-state area for a while and frankly, the Chinese up here just hits different. Dragon 168, does NOT disappoint. I ordered a Pu-Pu platter, Wonton soup and Hunan Shrimp. Everything was hot, fresh and delicious!! The shrimp was jumbo and plentiful. Hunan sauce was seasoned to perfection. The fried items in the appetizer were crispy and NOT greasy. The service was great, my order was ready when I arrived. The place is a take out so ambiance was irrelevant to me. Every "true foodie" knows that some of the best spots are a "hole in the wall"! I'm checking out the menu right now for their lunch specials. Not for today because I've got LEFTOVERS! First time here and the reviews are NOT kidding: this place is TINY! It's so small that the customer waiting to place their order behind me needed to wait for me to come out of the store to get in. I won't be coming back however as the food was insipid and bland. Broccoli was undercooked; the steamed dumplings were very overcooked to the point they were swollen and watery, while the pork filling was VERY bland. The sesame chicken combo was mediocre are best: not very crunchy, and not a very strong flavor. The fried rice was very underseasoned and needed soy sauce to taste close to what it should be. Unfortunately, Dragon 168 was mediocre at best. Ordered General Tso's chicken, chicken with mixed vegetables, and pan fried dumplings. Both chicken dishes were extremely lackluster with absolutely no flavor. I was shocked to say the least given the amazing reviews this place has. I expected thicker, flavorful sauce but the dishes were extremely watery and lacking taste. The dumplings were good and they give you a TON for the price but it was just too much. The dumplings themselves were gigantic and just fall apart if you can't stuff the entire thing in your mouth at once. I felt like the dumplings were a full meal. Rice was just okay. I find it really hard to find some real good Chinese food in the Fairfield area and have tried multiple places. Because of this I've always been skeptical when my friends want Chinese food; however, I am super glad that I found Dragon 168 on yelp. This place has a very tiny parking lot shared with other stores so keep an eye out when looking because you might drive right past it. The store is really small and has one table with a couple chairs. My friend and I stayed just because we were so hungry but it seemed like most people ordered it just for takeout anyway. The staff was very friends and the food was great! I ordered sesame chicken and my friend ordered sweet and sour chicken. I was pleasantly surprised when I started eating and am happy that I decided to give this place a try. If you're looking for Chinese food, come here! read more

Only take out, but if you want a feel of NYC style Chinese this is the place. The food is top notch and always delicious. The staff is really nice and accommodating to the wifes gluten allergies. Dragon 168 is our go to Chinese food source and we have been going there for years. The owners are very pleasant and we have watched their kids grow up. They are now going to some great colleges. We love seeing the American dream in action. The food is ready typically in 15 minutes, so don't lallygag at home if you like you food hot! The food is generally very good, but there have been a few letdowns over the years, but we continue to visit there regularly. Friday nights are usually the best night of the week for us. I don't particularly like Chinese food in this area. At least, I didn't, until my husband finally convinced me to try Dragon 168. Here's the thing; it's this tiny takeout place that looks so nondescript, you might not even notice it if you aren't looking for it. But when you find it, oh boy! First, the food itself is fresh and delicious. The meats they use in their dishes are all delectable and distinct. And they do not skimp at all. You get a container of wonton soup and it is filled to the brim with delicious wontons, then topped with yummy broth and fresh scallions. You get pork fried rice, and it's completely packed with chunks of tasty pork. And I could happily make a meal out of their spring rolls and vegetarian hot and sour soup alone! Their prices are extremely reasonable, too. I'm always surprised by the quality to cost ratio when we order! The best thing? This is a local family business, and everyone is super friendly. Ahhh, my dear Dragon 168. How often you are forgotten because you are tucked away, but fear not, because you are always in my heart. Just so you know, I am generally weary about trying yet another Chinese take-out place. Many have been sub-par if not downright awful. The first time I came here was by accident or maybe by fate. My coworker told me about a Dragon 168 in another town (which btw, I found, and was NOT too please with at all), but good thing the Take-Out Food Gods nudged me into this one first. This place is small, no seating except for the two chairs in the corner, for those awaiting their orders. Although, on my first visit, the owner did put out a little fold-able table next to the two chairs for me and my bf. He was very nice and pleasant. Since then, I've ordered many a times for take-out. There are lots of yum-things on the menu. My favorites are sweet & sour pork, sesame chicken, mixed-vegetables with tofu and their fried rice. Be forewarned, the fried rice ain't fancy, but it's tasty. I never worry about the quality because it's always been fresh. Give this place a try for lunch if you've never been. If you're in Fairfield, you can't be more then a few minutes away from this place, which is a good thing since they don't deliver and don't have any space for eating in; this is a take-out only location. Orders can be called in or placed in-person, although I recommend you call it in and give it a good half hour. Menu is pretty extensive and most items are rather tasty, though not the best I've ever had. Restaurant is family owned (so I'm told) and everyone is quite pleasant. The general tso's had a weird tabasco flavor to it, but my chicken and veggie dish was incredibly flavorful - though sauce too watery. We've been here several times and never been disappointed, but we'd always gone for the same simple things (soup, dumplings, lo-mein). This time we decided to try something new and got the Bao Bao platter (pu pu in many places) and the Sub Gum Wonton entree. So glad we did! The appetizer platter had Crab Rangoons that my wife loved and I can't comment on because she took them all, but everything else in it was great. The spare ribs were meaty and tender, the chicken wings and fried shrimp were crispy, and the steak skewers were delicious. The Sub Gum Wonton dish with shrimp, chicken, beef and mixed veggies in a rich sauce was chock full of value--not a lot of filler with one piece of each type of meat the way some places do. The place is small and not designed for dine in so we will still occasionally go other places if we are dining out for table service, but we won't just rely on this for simple take-out any more. I don't know why everyone loves this place. I have been dying for a good Chinese place. I've tried this take out quite a few times and I find it like most other chinese take out...too sweet, too gelatinous and too quickly prepared. None of the food tastes like it was cooked in a searing wok. The chicken and broccoli we got was surely precooked...probably steamed...and then it was just topped with a sauce. Very underwhelming. The breading on the general tsaos was thick and soggy. The dumplings were huge with a very thick outside. The fried rice wasn't fried rice at all, seemed like white rice that they seasoning and little pieces of pork in. Would not go back. read more

Pros: Quick, cheap, & DELICIOUS!!! I work across the street and have only a half hour for lunch. I rarely have a chance to call Dragon 168 with more than 5-10 minutes notice. By the time I walk across the street and pay, my food is in my hands. I love this place. While I like their food, I've had a few occasions where I've had weird reactions after eating it which makes me think they use a lot of MSG. If you are MSG sensitive, you may want to look elsewhere for Chinese food. read more

How do you give negative stars? This was the WORST Chinese food I've ever eaten... scratch that... I couldn't get past bite 1. First off, they said 20 minutes which, apparently, means show up in 20 minutes and we'll start "cooking". I use that term loosely since the fried rice was barely in the pan. It is still white and the onions are raw. Aside from a bit of roast pork, that was all that made it into the rice. I also got General Tso's chicken that was so mushy I can't believe it was once chicken. It went right into the trash and we're now ordering from somewhere else. I am pretty accepting of average Chinese food around this area. This was so far below average it was unbelievable. read more
