Their fish were very healthy. I wanted a new 10 gallon tank set up and the man that helped me was great.

The staff were SUPER knowledgeable, kind to our kids and patient. We had made the decision to get a few fish as pets and they helped us pick what made sense based on our tank and desires. No oversell, no pressure just well thought insights and they answered to 1000 questions are kids had too! It was also cool to see that they've built a community around their shop too. Beyond those of us in to buy stuff some they were just hanging out to talk fish--they also gave great feedback and advice! read more

We've gotten plants, blue fancy shrimp, and the tall Y shaped cholla wood decor. Come to this store if you're looking for knowledgeable staff to answer your questions or looking for something specific. Ned's has a wide selection of plants, tanks, stands, accessories, and aquatic life (fish, shrimp, snails, and today I also noticed some little frogs.) Anything you need, they are likely to have or can order and get in a timely manner. You may have a faster checkout from a major chain pet store, however, you'd absolutely be sacrificing the selection, knowledgeable staff, value for money, and great experience that awaits you at Ned's. read more

On Wednesday I bought eight hatchetfish 4 marble and 4 silver. As I was chatting with Ned I made sure he knew that I had an hour and a half drive. Ned then put all eight fish in one bag. Ok the bags pretty big. Take them home, soak them for 45 minutes per the instructions on the bag and put them in Extremely sluggish and the marbled wouldn't get off the deck. Gave the. good squirt of brine shrimp and left them in peace. The next morning the silver are perking up but the marbles had gone bye bye. I called Ned and went over the parameters etc and he told me to come down and replace them. So I get to the shop and Ned tells me I suffocated them. Ok, well I told you what my drive was and followed the instructions on the bag (when I told him about the bag he said oh that's wrong). I bought some other items including some hard goods I don't really need and checked out. When I got home I checked the bill. I got two free fish and he charged me for the other two. In two days I spent over $180 there. Well that's my story take from it what you will. read more

The professional service, knowledge and just nice people makes this place a rare gem.

Place is disorganized and tanks are filthy. Bought 6 fish and 5 died....should have realized it would be a disaster when I walked in. Sorry, will find another place. read more

When I go to chain pet stores like Petsmart I see sick looking fish lying on bottom of tank looking unhappy, I see none of this at Uncle Ned's...all the fish are happy, lively and well taken care of. The owners have years experience in the business. I only go here for "fish shopping" :) read more

I have visited this shop a couple of times so far since they seem to have a ton of fans. I'll be honest... I was rather disappointed. The entire place isn't exactly "pristine". I know there are a LOT of tanks to take care of, and that water must get all over the floors, but I don't expect to see such filthy, clogged sponge filters in the tanks. I understand some people feel dirty filters work better than clean ones, but... Other tanks looked nasty. Perhaps they were just full of tannins for certain breeds... Their equipment and supply stock is hit-or-miss. Prices are a bit high. They do have Finnex lights, which is nice, and I picked up some small sponge filters. The plants for sale were covered in algae the day I was there. Some nice aquascaping wood in that room, though. The staff wasn't at all personable. Each visit, they asked if I needed any help, and I politely said no. Then they walked off like I was wasting their time. I WANT to like this shop, but they could stand to put in more effort into making new customers feel welcome. read more

Staff was very helpful. The inside temperature is very comfortable. Staff helped my get all of the stuff I needed for my first tank. He told me all of setup instructions and put me on my way. read more

Forget Petco, and Petsmart - if you want to get serious about anything relating to having a fish tank, or pond, whether an amateur or hobbyist, this place is where you go. With ample, free parking and an unparalleled selection of tanks, fish, plants and everything else one might need - there is literally no need to go anywhere else. But where does this place shine best? It's the support and knowledge that they share. I spent nearly 45 minutes with one of their staff members going over every single option, size, question and pricing options and they fielded everything incredibly well and gave me a ton of options which was also great. Even though I live nearly 40 minutes away, this is now my go-to place. Best of all, their fish selection is awesome and they look really, really healthy. Much more so than at the large pet stores that I've been to. read more

Visiting here is better than taking a trip to the aquarium. Uncle Ned's has the most knowledgeable employees, amazing and HEALTHY stock of animals, and great prices. Look no further for all of your aquatic needs! read more

Best in New England. All you need for your aquarium hobbies!! Great location on the mills Medwaylune!

Huge variety of fish. Tons and tons to see. However, it was ALL overpriced. Like, crazy overpriced!! $3.99 per half inch neon tetra? Ghost cat fish for $17?! Petsmart has better prices. Also, I noticed a whole lot of parasite snails and eggs all over the plants they were selling. No thank you!!! However, I've gotta say, their Bettas are absolutely stunning. The craziest colors and patterns I've ever seen. They are also kept in nice little bowls with gravel and plants instead of cups like other shops. This is what pushed the review from three stars to four. read more

I told them I was an hour away. Asked if they have any big Rosie barbs. Was told they have 25 of them around 3.5 inches get out there and they're inch an a half. A little ridiculous if you ask me. Told you guys they were going in an Oscar tank told you how big the oscars are and was told they'd be fine. Well they weren't fine. Will not be returning. Was not worth the drive. And prices are outrageous. Figured support a small business but petco can get the size I want for half the price. Update: tried speaking the owner on the phone and he had an attitude and said "I never said they were that size put them in a bucket and bring them back" great customer service Ned. Like I said will not be back guys straight up lied to me on the phone just to get me there. Great business. read more

Waited over an hour to get into this place after being told it would only be 20 mins. We stuck it out because we were intrigued figured they would have some pretty cool fish we didn't see anywhere else. Nope. Basic fish like cichlids, angel fish and Tetras, so not worth the time we spent waiting to get in. Staff was not welcoming at all, and each time I had a question the person had to get someone else because no one knew about the fish I was inquiring about, disappointing. read more

The best fresh water aquarium fish store I have ever visited. The staff are as awesome as the fish. Worth the drive and be ready to spend as this a place where you will want to keep buying and buying fish as quality and selection is just too good to pass up. read more

This place has a really good selection of fish and aquarium supplies. I bought some tetras today and was really impressed with the customer service. I was there for about 30 min, and young lady there was helping me out and explaining everything about different types of fish. Prices are not cheap, but fair. I strongly recommend visiting this store. read more

I would highly recommend this store to anyone who lives around Boston! This place is so much better than tropical isle, good price, professional service and they are really helpful and friendly. Got some happy Farlowella catfish and done great advice. Knowledgeable employees and awesome selection

I visited Uncle Ned's Fish factory on July 16, 2011. I needed some Amano Shrimp and some plants for my Betta Tank. I tried to purchase them at a few local pet stores, but they did not stock them or had tanks with more dead fish than live fish and that really turns me away. Instead of ordering by mail, I decided to make a field trip to Uncle Ned's. I had read good things about it so I was willing to travel. I expected to walk into the store, tell the clerk what I wanted, then jet right home. Instead when I walked through the door I was greeted by rows of and shelf full of tanks that just begged to be explored and gawked at. Most tanks do not have lids so the store is full of bubbling and water noises. I wandered through the tanks and marveled at the variety of fishes. I could have stayed and looked for hours. They honestly should charge admission. The amazing thing is that the tanks are very plain. Not a lot of decorations. But they are clean and each type of fish had the environment that it needed to live comfortably. Dan helped me pick out a plant that would work in my tanks and bagged my Amano Shrimp with care. I will be returning to this awesome store. read more

Probably the best fish store I have gone to. He has some of the best collection of fish I have seen. The interesting variety of fish, and always has new interesting ones every time I go. The store is a little out of the way, but I always enjoy making the trip out to this one. The owner(s) have been very helpful in answering any of my questions, or just to talk about fish they are getting in. They also update their website (forum) with new in stock items, so you can get an idea of products they just get in before heading down to the shop. Like other's are saying, this place and Tropical Isle are the 2 shops I go to in the area. Also to note, they do not have a large selection of the average fishes, (freshwater) Swordtails, guppies and so on. They just make more room for the cool interesting ones. But this is one thing I enjoy about this store as well. read more

This is easily one of the best aqaurium hobbyist stores I've ever been too! Staff is always helpful and are also hobbyists themselves! They are always willing to look for a hard to find species, or to do special orders. They also carry a very wide variety of species, and they are the healthiest fish you can find in the area! If you are a true aquarium hobbyist, make a stop at uncle neds!! read more

This is a great store to purchase your fish from! Unlike other aquarium stores, they actually take care of ALL their tanks! Every tank that I saw was clean, happy, and healthy. I purchased two fish from them a few a months ago and they are both very active and vibrant. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. The gentleman that waited on me was siphoning out a tank when I was browsing and stopped what he was doing to help me. Great customer service! In addition to being friendly, they are knowledgable! I showed them a videoclip of my tank to make sure the new guys would get along with what I've got and they were able to identify them all. I only wish it wasn't so far from me here in Providence! I definitely suggest a trip to Uncle Ned's! read more

Super nice cichlids got 5 brought home a geo sadly got ick signs the next day infected my main tank my fault for not quarantining

I love this place!!! Great people! Very knowledgeable. Cool variety of fish. They took in some fish I had that where to aggressive for my tank. I even received store credit. The fish where vibrant, colorful and beautiful. I have gone quite a few times and will be returning. I received assistance from Ned and I think Dan. Who where so helpful. They knew everything about the fish they sell. They are honest. They explained to me about discus which are a pricey fish. They could have just sold me one but they explained everything and unfortunately it wasn't the right fish for me. They really look out for you and the fish. They found me some fish that I had the appropriate set up for. That shows they care and that is why I am a repeat customer. read more

My go-to destination for all things fish related! Definitely worth the 40 minute drive. Great selection of fish and plants. I've been coming here for well over 20 years and have never been disappointed. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. I truly can't say enough great things about Uncle Ned's and the staff. A must visit destination. read more

I had been planning on visiting this store for a couple weeks now, but due to the wonderful weather we have been having in Boston every weekend, I have been putting it off, not wanting to be driving in the snow storms. This weekend, even with the storm, I decided to make it happen, and I am quite glad I did. It is a small, cozy fish store, with a wide variety of cichlids, and many other fishes available. Their selection of goldfish wasn't the largest, which upset my friend a little bit, but I found what I had been looking for for months; they are the first store I have seen to carry Elephant Nose Fish, and you better believe I snatched one up. They also get their Discus from Discus Hans in Maryland, the same guy I got my discus from, and they were beautiful. They also carry Rabbit Snails, something my friend had been looking for quite a while, and it was awesome! Just a quick note on how they treated the Elephant Nose Fish when the guy got him in a bag for me: I am used to being outraged at how a lot of places treat the fish when putting them in bags, and scared for my new baby that they may have really stressed them out. This guy caught the ENF in a plastic container, not using a net, by allowing him to swim into the container himself without stressing him out too much, and then when he tied the bag, he didn't spin it around a hundred times, he set it back into the container and twisted the top of the back not shaking it up. I was highly impressed. And then he set it in a brown paper bag with the worms I bought as to prevent even more stress. Overall the aquarium was really nice. I do feel that they overprice their aquarium products... i.e. they had a heater for 70 USD that I have found on Amazon for 13 USD. But I would still go back and check out their fish again in a heart beat. read more

Been going to meds for years now. Always helpful with my fish and helps me keep them healthy. The plants stock they have is really nice

I LOVE THIS PLACE!! My boyfriend has been going for about 10 years now and is an avid fish keeper with tanks from 16 gal to 125. I recently decided to try the hobby for myself and will never go anywhere else but here! I've gone to Tropical Isle in Framingham and various other tropical fish stores in the MA and RI area and none of them even come close to the wide selection of fish and the helpfulness and friendliness of staff. They sold me my 5 male Endlers and my female Apisto Panduro, as well as some plants who are all doing spectacularly in my 10 gallon right now. Will be going back for a small school of Corys in a few weeks and I'm counting down the days until I get to go back! read more

I had been hearing about Ned's for years before I finally got out to Millis. I was told in advance that they didn't do marine, which is disappointing, but they do have a small section with all the basics. If you want a certain fish, Ned's has it. If you don't see it, you probably didn't look hard enough. Otherwise, they'll special order anything. The tanks are clean and surprisingly well-labeled. Everyone who works there from college girls to old guys is a fish person. If they can't answer your question (a rare occurance) they admit that they don't know and find someone that does. The fact that it's in Millis is my only complaint. I need this store to be closer! read more

I've never had an issue with any mom and pop stores before now. Bought a $25 angelfish for my 40 breeder tank that has been established for years. I test it religiously along with all of my other tanks. I breed and show fish. Yet, the excuse for the angel dying in less than 24 hours was that it was my tank, a fish must have killed it or my test kit is old (bought replacements a year ago). Instead of a refund or exchange, Dan instead said for me to bring them my water. I live an hour away and yet would make specific trips to visit their selection. No more, especially since the purchase before was a ryukin goldfish for my 80 gallon fancy goldfish tank, and it distributed out viral hemorrhagic septicemia to all of the other goldfish in the tank which are all slowly dying off no matter what treatment I throw at them. I will stick to my mom and pop shops like Tropic Isle or Aqua Life Central. I advise avoiding making any large purchases here so you don't waste your money. read more

I called ahead to make sure it was ok to come down to this store. I traveled an hour and a half. I get to Ned's and was in the store less then 10 min. And the owner approaches me and says. "Hurry up there is people waiting." Mean while I had a list of over $100 dollars in fish I was going to get on top of what I was going to get my girlfriend. That being said the one sale he made in there was under 30 dollars. So since i was rushed out of the establishment before I could even look at everything he had. I left. As I got out side there was NO ONE outside waiting. I will never return to this store. If you like to be treated as a worthless costomer. Uncle Neds is the fish store for you. Worst customer experience if ever had in a LFS. read more
