Tonight was the worst experience I've had at a restaurant in quite awhile. Until tonight, my wife and I had no complaints about Uncle Julio's staff. However the hostess staff seemed completely incompetent tonight. Upon arrival we were told there was a 45-60 minute wait. We waited until an hour had gone by before checking the status of when we'd be seated. My wife and I both were told, on separate occasions, that we were the next group to be seated, however we saw three groups that had arrived after us be seated before us. After 90 minutes of waiting and seeing multiple groups that had arrived after us be seated, I asked to speak to a manager. Once I asked for a manager, we were seated in approx 5mins. Our group consisted of three people and there were two groups of three and one group of two that were seated before us. The group of two had just walked in and were given a booth that seats four. The table that we were seated at was unstable and we were not given any "silverware". I walked around the restaurant before we were sat and saw multiple clean tables that would have seated four that were open for longer than the one we were sat at. I felt that we were sat at a less than ideal table for some spiteful reason that amplified our terrible experience. A manager did not come to speak with us while we waited for our table or before the server introduced themself. I had to ask the server if they could ask a manager to come speak to my wife and I. That makes me feel as though the hostess put no effort into finding a manager as requested. After speaking to the manager, my wife, daughter and I left. Even though the manager tried to make things right, we were too turned off by the experience. The three hostesses never once seemed to show any understanding, apologize for the wait or experience or give any explanation of why we were passed over multiple times. All three seemed to be more concerned with talking amongst themselves and looking put out over anyone asking them a question. I hate to be this person but I feel completely insulted by this experience. I'm sure we'll eventually go back here but for now if we want uncle Julio's I guess we're going to the one in Ft. I heard a lot of good things at the other UJ locations over the years and had not tried it. But having tried it last night in Arlington, man, oh man, oh man, this was sensational. The new location, of course, was packed at 5:15PM. We were told to show up closer to 4PM to avoid the rush OR make reservations even online! Our server, George, filled us in that the smokey salsa I like so much is because of the fire roasting the vegetables get on a daily basis on their grill and incorporated in the salsa. Truly a unique and filling flavor. George took our order and looked out for us through the meal, but there was a person delegated to chips and salsa, one to deliver my wife's Margarita, and another to serve. I thought there'd be another to wipe my face but fortunately, no. We both ordered the Juanita's special consisting of a beef tamale, beef and chicken enchilada, and a crunchy beef taco with rice and beans. Everything had its own texture and special flavor and were PRETTY THICK as opposed to most limp enchiladas served in the area. The sauce on the chicken was just as uniquely flavorful as the SEASONED ground beef. The red sauce on the corn tamale bordered the hot/too hot fence which was perfect. I was super floored by the distinct flavors without it all blending together on the plate as a lot of Mexican dishes do. This was a true gastronomic experience. Sitting on the other side of the I-20 is the Highlands Mall where my wife and I often go. I love the enormous and meat generous taco salad at Mercado Jaurez and LOVED the roasted chicken burrito at Chuy's, and we'll still go to these places, (and Chuy's has some excellent fare,) but I think if we really want to treat ourselves with something outstanding and bring visitors to, it'll be here. Andre was the best waiter -not overly, annoying attentive but still right there without wondering where he went. He offered recommendations without me asking. The food was great but his customer service made the Uncle Julio's experience even better. Order the cowboy queso. I don't know who's back there beating that steak until it is so tendery gooT (yes, with a "T" because a "D" just won't justify the gooTness) but let me tell you... that ish is GOOT GOOT! One of our favorite Mexican food restaurants, it is our go-to. We are so excited that it is now in Arlington. The El Jefe is off the chain as well as the spicy margarita. We have not had a bad dish there. Just make sure that when you order sopapillas that you only get 1 order, they come out as a heaping platter of them. First time here! Took my mom out for her birthday dinner. Signed up for the rewards and I got a free tableside guacamole ! I didn't know they actually made it next to you which was pretty cool and real good! It is pricey but well worth it definetly will be coming back for a bday celebration! We were there on Natl. Margarita Day--thought they'd have a special, but did not. No big deal, but got to looking around while we waited too long for our meal and all of the windows as well as the partitions between tables were so gross. These pictures don't do it justice, but I'd expect a much cleaner atmosphere especially during these COVID times. Our tortillas were cold the first time, & when I asked for a new heated batch, they were replaced with another cold batch. The waitress was young and very sweet. She did very well with what she had to work with (although I think she could've checked to make sure the tortillas were hot before she brought them to the table--a total of 3 cold batches). I had chicken burrito bowl which was excellent, but could've used more warmth. My husband's dinner was semi warm as well, but had a good taste to it. Chips were good. I liked the salsa that was served--my husband was not impressed by it. I really feel management has lost a step here with the cleanliness, the amount of time the dinners took to get to the table (we were there about 4:45 and it wasn't busy at all), as well as the temperature of the food. Totally unimpressed considering no alcohol or appetizer was purchased and the bill including tip was close to $50. Too many other good cleaner Mexican restaurants in the area to try it again, so we're one and done here. read more

We went an hour before closing. Waitress was on point and provided great service customer. We enjoyed our meal and was not even rushed even though restaurant was prepping for closure. Food was great. Great food, drinks and service! The wait for the food is slightly longer because they make everything fresh from scratch. They tell you ahead of time, so you're not surprised. They have a cool, unique dessert. It's a Chocolate Piñata! It is filled with fruits and mini churros I highly recommend this Mexican food restaurant! I'm from San Diego where we have really good authentic Mexican food and this is just as delicious with lots of choices. We each had something different from the others and we were all happy. I came here for my bday ... horrible experience. Let me start off by saying that yes food here is always great and I love uncle Julio's hence why I decided to come here for my bday..but the waitress and wait time was wow! Made me very very ups So what went wrong!? The service . We were sit within 5min, well that's great, however that was the only fast service we got. They set us towards the back by the restroom, our server a blondie.. I think her name was Danielle! She was horrible. After we sat down the host came by like 10min later saw us still waiting and shook her head and went back and then finally Daniele came up and said sorry for the wait but they had me all on their other side of the bar!! (I'm here thinking hmm not my problem) but I was still high spirited and feeling good .. so she got the drink orders, then brought the chips and salsa, we asked for an extra salsa, she came back with the drinks and forgot the extra salsa so she said oops I'll be back, she didn't, then she came back to get our order and no salsa we placed our order and asked about the salsa then she finally brought it. The food finally came, but Danielle disappeared we ate and wanted more tortillas... she finally made an appearance, brought more tortillas. Then we asked her to make sure our uncle Julio reward numbers was in the ticket so we can get points she said I don't know I'll find out, took the number down and never came back. Then we needed more drinks she came back like an eternity later (time check: we got to this place at 7:25pm, sat down by 7:29ish, got our drink order by 7:42ish.. our food by 8 something... Anyway we were ready doe the check because she was MIA. We asked her she brought the ticket we looked and our rewards not on it and we asked her to add again so she did. Then we asked her for those little electronic thing that u can just run the card yourself , she never came back .. I'm talking about 20min went by then noticed she was having issues with the table close to us, African American ladies (cute girls ) it was one their bdays too) they ordered something to go, she never came back with it then the lady went after her... and I overheard she was on the other side crying! So at this point something was going on because another waiter came by and ask if we needed help.. Danielle was just MIA again , we asked for the self check out electronic device he said he was gonna go get on... as he went Danielle came back and I said the dude was going to get me the out pay thing... she said ahh I'll take your card because those things are not working right now... I was like wtf... so I had no choice but give my card ... so here we go again with the wait.. she finally brings my charged card We signed and left.... worst experience I have ever had at uncle Julio's ... I still like the food but I'm scarred to go back and get the same treatment again. Then I was close to some other family they spilled their drink & their waitress gave them a lot of napkins & walked away. No assistance. same table had issue with no refried beans too cuz I saw the manger come up and offered them free desert and said I heard you didn't get ur bean and-rice !?! And the mom said I just want the beans and rice which are for the kids and they are hungry and boss man walked away and then like 10min later they brought them their rice and beans... This place was definitely where I was looking forward to going to - however, did not meet my expectations for a few reasons. 1) I highly enjoy kind and personable employees - they make for a great experience and make it more likely for me to return. We were accosted by three hostesses who had very unpleasant looks on their faces and had a lot of attitude. The kind you would expect from a bunch of teenage girls. It make for an unpleasant experience from the start. Definitely felt like they didn't care much about you or their job. 2) Our waiter got our drinks but no menus. Then came back later and asked us what we'd like to eat. We hadn't gotten any menus yet so we had to ask for those. Just a lack of communication on his part. 3) Food was not very good. The subpar tasting food combined with terrible customer service made me not want to return again. My advice for management - teach your hostesses how to be inviting, welcoming, and pleasant despite whether or not they really like their job. We had a Great Birthday celebration at our new Arlington Uncle Julio's location on Friday, Dec 8th!! They were extremely crowed but we were seated on time for our large party reservation. They had plenty of staff on hand to ensure each table had a great experience. And I discovered my new favorite.... seared tuna fajitas with bib lettuce paired with an El Effe jalapeno margarita. When they opened one down the street from me (I use to have to drive to Ft Worth or Downtown Dallas), I worked out for 4 weeks and existed on lettuce and water to prepare myself for my first Uncle Julio Arlington excursion. I ran up to the doors like Rocky did up those stairs and it did not disappoint. But this review is actually for those times when you say "self, I want some UJ but I ain't finna wait no 2 hours for a table". Two of the sweetest words in the restaurant industry... CURB SIDE. OhMyLord! Sweet, professional, accurate. I called in to place my order. The young lady said when you get here call and we'll be right out. Oh and because you placed a curb side order you get a free drink. Now the real me wanted to say Patron but the law abiding citizen said "a coke, please" which there must have been an angel on my shoulder because there was a cop 1/2 mile down the road. When she return she had a cup with some queso and chips in it "for a snack". Delicious. Side notes: This location gets very busy. There is plenty of parking but it might be a bit of a hike. At first I was hesitant to come here because this location didn't open that long ago. I was surprised when we went on a Friday night and there was an hour wait. Went there for dinner last night and the food was awful. We waited about 25-30 minutes for our food which wasn't that back but when I got my food I tasted it and could tell it was old and had been reheated in the microwave. My girlfriend's order wasn't prepared as she asked so they took the food away and apologized but magically came back out three minutes later with a new plate. It was obviously reheated in the microwave. I told the manager about it and she said that they don't heat food in the microwave then in the same breath said they do to "melt" the shredded cheese. It was my first and last time eating here. They even screwed up a strawberry margarita which I'm not really sure how a Mexican style restaurant can do that. read more

I have been a loyal customer for years however I am very disappointed in my last visit. I took some out of town guests there for their first time after telling them how great the food is. However this night I was wrong, they ordered 2 quesadilla dinners (one chicken and one steak) and they both were overcooked and burnt, very thin with little meat and cheese, and very overpriced for the quality. This place has really gone downhill! The table was filthy right after they cleaned it. My shrimp fajitas were burnt AND undercooked, that's a special combination! They were also really small. I then ordered the new carnitas. The pork was rather plain with a way-too-sweet honey sauce over it. The gauc was runny. The tortillas and garlic butter were fantastic, as was our waitress. Really enjoyed the food here, for the most part! As a vegetarian, they have great offers and you can easily make substitutions. The queso and guacamole is so delicious. The taco salad was superb and the peppery ranch dressing was spicy, but good! The only downside was the cheese enchiladas...I've tried many cheese enchiladas before and these tasted gummy, and the cheese inside wasn't even melted, it was like chunks of cheddar (basically an underdone tortilla wrapped with cheddar cheese). The best part was the service! Our server was Turquoise, and she was so friendly, attentive, and kind. You're lucky if you get her at your table. The music was a bit too loud, but other than that, I would totally come again. They have chocolate piñata that sounds crazy good! read more

After waiting 15-20 minutes and having several parties walking in sat before us my husband asked about the wait. He was told they were still trying to find a server for the area. As he was being told this a waitress (ASHLEIGH) walked by and said her section was open and she would be happy to take care of us. After being sat we had drinks, chips, & salsa right away. We explained it was our first visit and Ashleigh went over the menu and made some suggestions. They happened to have a "Taco Tuesday" special going on. So, we chose this.
