SUCH a bad experience last night! We used to be big fans of this location and ate here regularly for many years, but no more. We arrived at 8pm last night with the intention of sitting at the bar for dinner and watching some NCAA basketball. When we walked in, the bar seemed full, but we spied 2 empty spots at the corner so we grabbed them. One of the 2 bartenders gave us 2 cloth napkins to use as placemats on the bar, he handed us menus, then he left to serve other customers. As we started looking at our menus, we realized that only half the bar was actually full of people - the other half of the bar was full of dirty dishes, glasses, and leftover linens that had not been cleared after the previous (many!) customers had left. We looked around the rest of the bar area and realized that LITERALLY every high-top table that didn't have customers seated at it was piled with more dirty dishes, glasses, and used linens as well. Spilled tortilla chips littered the floor throughout the place, and chairs around the high-tops were abandoned at whatever angle their last occupants had left them. The whole place looked like it hadn't been bussed in about 2 hours. GROSS! At the same time we were noticing all the dirty tables, we realized that there was a faint, very off-putting sour smell in the area we were sitting, almost like old pickles that had been left out in the sun, an old gym bag forgotten in the trunk of a car, or sewer gas? GROSS #2!! As we were trying to figure out what was causing the offensive smell, we watched another couple walk up to the other side of the bar (the side that was devoid of people but filled with dirty dishes) - they stared at the mess for a moment, presumably trying to figure out whether anyone was still sitting there. When they realized not, they then looked around to identify a bartender who could clear some space for them. When the bartender finally noticed them standing there, he came over to them - but instead of properly clearing the mess around where they wanted to sit, wiping the counter clean, and giving these customers a refreshed space at the bar, he simply lifted the pile of dirty dishes and glasses that were in front of them down to the lower level of the bar (still right in front of them, where they could still see the dirty mess), then he plopped down 2 new cloth napkins/placemats for them ON THE UNWASHED BAR. GROSS #3!!! Three GROSS strikes and you're out, Uncle Julio's! Between the unappetizing mess we saw littered throughout the bar, the bad smell, and the very questionable cleanliness practices of the bartender that we observed as he served the other couple, we were DONE - so we quickly left and headed back to our favorite neighborhood pub, which is where we probably should have started in the first place. What a disappointing experience. This is clearly a MANAGEMENT issue - Uncle Julio's, if you don't have enough staff to keep your tables bussed, then CLOSE OFF a section of the restaurant so your staff can focus on delivering good service to the rest of the place! (Heck, if things are in a jam like we observed last night, then get in there and bus the tables YOURSELF! During the 20 minutes we sat at the bar, we saw NO managers come into the area - where were you?) If your staff isn't following restaurant hygiene best-practices or they're not aware that a clean environment is an important component of a positive dining experience, then TRAIN THEM BETTER! We understand that it's a tough labor market, but what we experienced last night would have been TOTALLY AVOIDABLE with better manager engagement. (Except for maybe the bad odor - we're still not sure where this came from, but it certainly didn't help things last night.) In any case, we used to LOVE this location, but sad to say that after what we saw (and smelled) last night, we won't be back. read more

We waited at our table once seated for 10 min without being waited on. I went to the hostess to let them know, they said they would work on sending someone over. After another 10 minutes we still had no service, we let the hostess know she apologized and we left. Both hostess were friendly, disappointed in the rest of the short experience we had. read more

Slow seating, Chips were stale and cold, service was slow, Beans and rice were cold, Ordered Beef Fajitas and there was only 2 small slices of pepper and practically no onions on the grill platter. I quit going there about 5 years ago but decided to give them another try, big mistake. Place needs to be freshened up and the sign needs to be repaired outside. read more

I chose Uncle Julio's to celebrate a dinner with my husband, adult son & daughter. We'd dined there a couple of times in previous yrs & I enjoyed it despite it being more Tex than Mex. This time? Not so much. The steak Nachos were flavorless & the meat was chewy. My ground beef Enchiladas were salty, that's it - no flavor, no other flavors, just salty, oily & cheese. My daughter's shrip/crab enchiladas were runny & flavorless with thick jalapeño wheels providing the only source of flavor. My husband's entree included a ground beef taco that he said was good, however, he found his beef enchilada to be similar to mine. Our son (who'll eat anything) rated his chicken enchiladas "decent ". We all agreed the best offering was the rice which helped make the flavorless Pico/Cabbage mixture palatable. I was so disappointed I refused my family's last ditch effort to salvage the outing wirh a Chocolate piñata & was just ready to leave. Service was slow (more than 20 minutes to receive our appetizer & another 10+ min for our entrees). Our waiter was gracious, but seemed to lack knowledge/ confidence or both. Maybe he was new? The menu has changed-unfortunately, so has the quality. Granted, it was very busy, but Saturday evenings usually are in restaurants. We don't plan to return. read more

This is some of the better TexMex in the Dallas area. In San Antonio I would be more inclined to go 3 stars but that would not be fair. Highly recommend making reservations ahead of time through their website. It will save on wait time and improve your experience. Their staff also appear overworked. The service was not spectacular but so many places nowadays are understaffed. The food was good and the chips and salsa in my opinion were very tasty. Quality control on food leaves little to be desired. The chips were the consistency o confetti with a few whole chips on top. I ordered a shredded chicken and beef enchilada, the chicken must have been so shredded that it was completely nonexistent. There was no chicken at all. Our server never checked on us. I had to flag down the hostess in order to get a manager. When the manager finally made her way to us she did comp the meal but the night out was done by that point. Would not recommend coming here. Go to Rosa's cafe for the same meal but cheaper. read more

We've never been to this location, and since we're still getting moved into our new home in McKinney we decided to check it out! They were really busy but we found seats at the bar and enjoyed a swirl margarita so the 20 minute wait went fast! Our server was great & the food was amazing! The portions were huge, too! I ordered the chicken fajita quesadillas, which were absolutely wonderful, but I ordered a side to refried beans and they were nothing but water. It was the first time I'd ever had an issue with uncle Julio's. Unfortunately, there seems to be a water leak and mold issue at this location from the extent of stains seen around all air vents, and a large mold patch on ceiling above our table. We looked up because water dripped on my husband's shoulder, then continued to drip on the booth bench after he moved. It's clear that this isn't new, but has been going on for a long time. We went today (Sunday) at 5:30pm and told the host there are 5 of us. The place was fairly empty and he asked if we have a reservation and we said no. The host then said we have to wait 45 minutes because they only have 4 servers. We left and ate elsewhere. read more

We recently ordered through Door Dash. Delivery was prompt. The food, however, was not as expected. The enchilada dinner was so salty as to be almost inedible. The accompanying beans and rice were also excessively salted. We will find another option for delivery. read more

I attended a luncheon at Uncle Julio's Allen with about 20 other ladies. We were given one server for our entire party who was rude, discourteous and would disappear for long periods of time. When I approached management with feedback about this issue, he stated that our party "trickled in", thus his decision to only give us the one server. That was his entire response. Please note, most of the party was at the restaurant within 15 minutes of the reservation time. Regardless, this was unprofessional and unhelpful in our current situation. After that, the waiter became aggressive and started slamming down drinking and throwing checks. When I asked him to please stop he started exaggerating his movements to set things down slowly, so as to mock us. I haven't had a dining experience quite like this. I won't be returning. When I asked the assistant manager for the GM email he told me he was the GM. When I asked him for a regional manager's contact information he gave me a fake email address. read more

I was quickly contacted by the Uncle Julio's team and gave them another shot this weekend, it was a great experience! Our server was Brian and he was awesome. Our chicken/beef fajitas were cooked perfectly this time. We also tried the white queso with ground beef this time and oh my goodness, so delicious! I come to this location quite often and haven't made it completely thru the menu, but haven't found anything I dislike yet. I was asked if I wanted to start with their Mixed Berry margarita of the month. Sounded delicious, if only I drank alcohol. Someone that does, would sure love it I'm sure. I did enjoy my Topo Chico with lime tho. The honey habanero shrimp is by far my favorite to start with. For my entree' I ordered the mixed fajitas and added on the Lobster. The Lobster they told me is only for a limited time so for only $20 more I couldn't resist. Asked my nice server for a to go box (I don't remember her name but she had mentioned she had been working all day) Sweet as can be for being there all day (-: She mentioned the churro cake and sold me on that too. I had placed on order on their website for steak/chicken fajitas. The order arrived early (yay) but I only received the meat and rice/beans. They forgot all the fixings! As you can imagine, I was very disappointed because I love Uncle Julio's. Since they use a 3rd party delivery service, I figured there was no way to get the rest of the order but I decided to call the restaurant anyway. Stopped in during happy hour and sat at the bar. Waiter was slow to greet me and only had a few customers. I ordered a rum and coke. He brought chips and hot sauce. After a while I ordered another drink. He finally brings the next drink which was a margarita. I explained I had a rum and coke and he argued I was wrong. I quickly asked for a check and was presented a bill for 11.37 for one rum and coke during happy hour... I paid the check with no tip. Should have consulted the manager...but hoped I would forget about it...its been a few hours and I am still upset. I go there all the time and didn't realize their score on Yelp. I love the colorful decor of Uncle Julio's. So much to look at! Warm inviting fireplace on the patio and festive music make a pleasant environment to dine. My server was very friendly and attentive, the manager made a point to stop by, great customer service. The salsa has a nice roasted flavor. I got the Tex Mex Combo, it was delicious. Horrible experience! It was our first time dining at this location we usually dine in at the new Frisco location and never had a problem. We were in the area doing some shopping and stopped by for a bite to eat. Upon walking in I could already tell this was an older location with the lack of up keep. We requested to sit towards the back because I noticed there was a fire place. As we were guided to the back, you could smell a strong Odor of methane gas coming from the restroom smelling like straight up sewage that should have been my first red flag. We order the fajita to share when they hit the table the "Sizzling fajitas" were not sizzling and the meat had an odd flavor to it as if It was soured. I went to bathroom and as I was approaching I saw something in my peripheral vision looked over and OMG! I saw the biggest RAT! I've ever seen! Oh HELL NO! At that point I was floored! Never Ever coming back to this disgusting location and I will be contacting Health/ Code Enforcement worst restaurant experience ever! read more

I enjoyed all of the food here and I also had a great $5 sangria twist margarita. They have good fajitas and beef enchiladas. The beef enchiladas were better than enchiladas I've had from other restaurants. Today I met my siblings here for lunch. I had not been to this particular location. It has a very nice ambience, very large and clean feeling. Our waitress was very attentive and personable. I had the mushroom street tacos, and they were excellent. They came with a side of rice and my choice of beans. I chose the Charro beans. Their flavor was excellent with lots of bacon. I ordered iced tea, and it tasted freshly made rather than as if it had been sitting in the kettle for hours. It was an enjoyable experience, and I would return. read more

I have been here a few times and as always this place does not disappoint! Great food and drinks! So happy you can make reservations because that is a life saver! The only downside to this restaurant is it is very loud and you sometimes have to yell to be heard by others. The staff is great and very attentive to you. Spicy Pina was great, except that it took 20 minutes to get it after ordering. The food is decent, but the slowness to actually get your food is brutal. We waited 25 minutes for churros. It's also sad they can't have bussers so the managers spend more time bussing tables than actually making sure things run smoothly. If a restaurant can't handle a busy service they should limit the number of customers at any given time. read more
