We love the Allen location! They not only have the sour cream enchiladas but they make a pollo blanco off menu. And if you want they customize meals for you. Omar is the best bar tender we come for him and his great customer service, he makes us feel welcome every time. Went to this location 7-5-2023 for lunch. At 12:00, the restaurant was about 20% filled. Sure, it was a day after a holiday. The server was quite attentive and professional. Food was very good. But the problem was on the check. As I was handed an electronic machine to pay for the meal, the computer screen recommended that I tip 18%, 20% or 22% on the taxed total. What ever happened to 15%? A manager came by the table and asked how everything was and I asked "Why are we and all the other customers being requested to give money for taxes?" The manager replied "That's a good question. I don't know. I'll have to aske corporate." ANY PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED MANAGER SHOULD KNOW THE INDUSTRY HISTORY OF TIPPING. So, let's do the math. Our subtotal for 2 lunch entrees was $36. If I tip industry accepted standard of 15%, that is $3.90. Uncle Julio's is telling the customers to tip $7.02 for 18%, %7.80 for 20% and $8.58 for 22%. Of course, our bill will be considered very low. But for the sake of volume, let's say this location runs 150 tables on a slow day. The difference on non-taxed tipping at 15% @$3.90 to $8.58 @22% is $4.68, x 150 (tables) = $702.00. And if that equates to being open 360 days a year (excluding closed holidays) = $252,720.00 per year extra that "corporate Uncle Julio's" is asking the public to pay to sustain their tipped employees wages JUST AT THIS LOCATION. The wait staff that I saw was much older and experienced looking in their dress and age than what many other Mexican restaurants I have visited. Now I know why. Corporate has learned how to make the public pay more for their inability to cover respectful wage. read more

My family came in on early Saturday afternoon and didn't seem to busy.. arrived at the host stand were the host were chatting and I didn't wanna interrupt.. when they were aware of my family and I they greeted us and sat us promptly. This is the 1st time visiting this location and everything was a big disappointment. From our server who was rude and seemed to be annoyed with any request.. to the food being overpriced for the type of upscale Tex mex it's trying to pre tray. It definitely wasn't worth the time and money spent. I feel if we're gonna spend $200 dinning out service should be more 5 stars for sure! Our waiter was awful tonight. We got in to eat around 6:30 and should have taken a tip from the tables around us. It took forever to see our waiter, then when we did he didn't really want to take anything but our drink order. We waited forever for our food- I get it, it's 7:00 on a Saturday night. By 7:00 the place was pretty bare. We were charged for multiple orders of food we didn't order or even receive. I won't be back. To be accosted when my husband asked about an item that was on the menu labeled differently was insulting. And we watched this same waiter battle with other tables. i would say i love uncle julio's in allen,tx. but they recently changed their mexican rice. it used to be the best tasting rice in the dfw area but now since they changed how they make it...it now sucks and tastes as bland as every other chain returaunt out there!!!!!! please go back to the original way of making it. it was 1,000,000 time better. read more

I wouldn't advise this place. My experience started off with trying to get a margarita at the bar that so "safely" separates people with a standing plastic barricade. I politely asked a manager walking around with an iPad if there was a protocol to get a margarita without messing up their covid barriers; it was a 35 minute wait so I figured I'd have a drink while I waited. "His response was a cold, stand behind someone and wait for them to leave..." while he stomped off to bark orders. We finally get our table and asked for a children's menu and crayons to keep them entertained due to the wait time, "no we don't do those because of COVID." I guess I missed the memo where they repackage those and they are a high risk for spreading.... We place our order upon sitting down since we had ample time to review the menu and nothing better to do with our time and about 12 minutes later our waiter notices we don't have our queso. Another 4 minutes passes and he brings out a half melted bowl. Our meal arrived some 10-12 minutes later and it was actually quite delicious. The presentation was good and we were happy. They messed up the fajita chicken instead of shredded, but we didn't make a big fuss about it. The waiter recognized the issue and decided to give us free Sopapilla's which were absolutely delicious. Overall the waiter was good and the food was good, but the policies, treatment by management and overall experience was terrible. Which arrived 40 min after we finished eating when though we pre ordered the chocolate piñata when we ordered our meals. GM was non-existent the entire time. This place has cute decor and warm yummy tortilla chips with salsa. We stumbled on a taco Tuesday so we tried the Tuesday special, and OMG, there were so much food. It was chicken and beef with all sorts of corn, pickled onions, cheese and comes with soft and hard shell tortilla (all are unlimited except meat, just ask for it) the Shrimp platter my dad got was amazing, my toddler was fighting over it. I've been an Uncle Julio's customer for 20 years. I used to frequent the now-defunct Greenville Avenue location, with fond memories. I've been to the Dallas Parkway location more times than I can count. Unfortunately, in the 2 or 3 years since my last visit, things have went downhill. We visited late on a Thursday night, with the main dining area mostly empty. Our server, Said, was new to this location, but was a veteran server and did a great job. I selected the Herschell's Platter (chicken enchilada, cheese chile relleno, pork tamale and a substituted beef enchilada); my wife had the Juanita's Platter (two cheese enchiladas, crispy taco (beef) and pork tamale). My rellano was average at best, with a mushy, doughy breading. Chicken enchilada was the best of the bunch, with lots of good, shredded chicken with some nice spice. Both of our tamales, though, were very disappointing. Uncle Julio's used to feature hand made tamales of prodigious size, with much filling. These examples were just sad. They were decent size, but only a small "vein" of filling was inside, the bulk being an unremarkable masa. We ordered a shrimp fajita dinner to go, but it, too, did not fare well. Very small shrimp with only a few onion strands, and a small amount of pico, guacamole and salsa. Overall, I was quite disappointed in this meal, particularly for the premium prices charged. The issues seemed systemic rather than just a bad night (good tamales are never going to come out of that machine in it's current form), so Uncle Julio's may have lost a customer. There are simply too many good Tex-Mex choices today, including a good number within a few miles' drive of this location. read more

We came on a crazy, busy Saturday night. The wait was an hour and a half long. People were lined up out the door and it was a cold winter night. Now, in this situation I always think.... if I can find a seat at the bar, I'm going to eat there. Here is the crazy thing. The bar was wide open. No one was sitting at the bar or the cocktail area. We immediately sat down. We were waited on by Jose and he was very attentive. He even found a larger table for us to eat at, because our first table was a bit small. Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I really expected more from Julio's. Maybe it was our completely incompetent waitress who didn't know the menu or the fact that none of our food seemed to be as amazing as described in all of the reviews, but I couldn't give it an A-OK. It's meh. I had originally ordered a chile relleno after confirming with the waitress twice that it didn't have tomatoes only to have it come out, stick my fork in and she says "oh, i think there's tomatoes with the chicken". Ugh. Then it took 10 minutes to get fajita chicken and some tortillas just so I could eat while my ravenous family chowed down (much to my chagrin). The manager was nice enough to come by and apologize and check on us as I was attempting to get tipsy off their watered down margaritas, but I was unsuccessful. When I eventually got my food it was actually pretty good, I would be willing to believe the tortillas were freshly made and the rest of my family seemed to like what they were eating. The tortilla chips are dangerously addictive but I think they, sadly, might have been the favorite part of my meal! read more

I love Uncle Julio's, they always have good food here and good service. We went to a restaurant across the street, and there was over an hour wait. We came here, and we waited about 20 minutes. This restaurant is huge, ample amount of seating, and you don't have to wait long to get seated. Their chips and salsa are always fresh here. I ordered a cup of the tortilla soup, and it was amazing. The food here is good, so if you're in the area, come check it out for quick service. They offer skinny drinks here if you are in the mood for an adult beverage. read more

The meats were cooked well and came with plenty of toppings and tortillas. I really liked the mexican rice too. But it's definitely not the best I've had. The chips were great since they were thin and crispy. The salsa had a smokey flavor but it was not spicy at all. I will say the service was outstanding when we were in the bar area! Wait staff doesn't pay attention to us, took their time cleaning the space from the customers before us so we stood for a while before the dishes were finally taken up and we then had to ask for the space to be wiped down. Menus need to be cleaned those too are sticky and nasty. Service as I sit here typing is like we are not here at all. Bar environment is dirty and door to the cooler is broken and leaning. We have empty drinks and our dinner order hasn't been taken. This is the most disappointing experience to date! IF we come back maybe it will be a better experience. I'm basing this review solely on service! This doesn't mean the food was bad, just that the service was excellent. I called ahead to make a reservation for 15 people. We ended up with 13 but that wasn't an issue. Upon arrival, drink orders were quickly taken and delivered along with plentiful amounts of chips and salsa for the quite long table. Ordinarily, with large groups since the gratuity is included, the service can be lackluster. That was not the case here at all. Multiple servers were hustling to bring our meal, refill drinks and take care of any requests. At the end, it was no problem to split the bill 6 ways, even though no one was sitting together from each bill. There were no mistakes either. As for the food, it's the normal Uncle Julio's Tex-Mex. Choices at our table included quesadillas, fajitas, tacos and bowls. The teenagers at the table really loved the surprise order we placed for a chocolate pinata. I'm glad we did this with a crowd because it would have been far too much for my own family of four. read more

My family and I went to Uncle Julio's for the first time tonight. It was fantastic! Our waiter, Brennan, was amazingly awesome! He made us feel like we were the only table in the restaurant and we were the only table that mattered (they were packed). He took the time to tell us about the restaurant. He suggested drinks and food for us. I am a vegetarian and my meal came with a side of beans. I asked if the beans had meat in them. He told me they did. I explained I am a vegetarian, he offered to switch out my beans for black beans. He immediately took the beans, walked back to the kitchen, and brought out the black beans. Wanting to revisit home of amazing queso, I decided to go to Uncle Julio's again to relive the experience. Chicken&Steak Fajitas - insanely expensive for an order of 1! Lots of condiments come with it: rice, beans, guac, cheese, pico, etc. the presentation of the meat looked really sad - 4 tiny strips of steak & 4 tiny strips of chicken. Even though it looked like little meat, it was enough to make 4 tacos and we weren't even able to finish all 4 between two people! The meats weren't good in my opinion - no significance flavor. $18.99/single order for one Queso w/ Ground Beef - what I came for! It was still amazing as I had remembered!! I YOLO'd and added ground beef for an extra $2. Let's just say... They add a spoonful worth of ground beef. I guess that's proportionate to the size of the queso as shown in the picture. Cup of queso $6 + $2 for meat. Definitely really good, but the size is not worth it at all. Overall really expensive place for mediocre food. The service was really good but I felt like the waiter kept pressuring me to order more. We didn't order much but couldn't even finish our food! read more
