Whole Pan - The Figgie
Isabel S.

I stopped by on my lunch break to get an Uncle G's lunch combo - 1 slice of pan pizza and drink for around $10. You order at the register and they have two open tables to wait at as they transitioned to more of a takeout spot. I got the figgie to eat and it was delicious. I was caught off guard with the fig as the sauce since I didn't read it thoroughly before ordering. It blended well with the goat cheese, arugula, and prosciutto. It definitely can get sweet overtime so if you're in the mood for something more savory and less adventurous I would try a different flavor

Not sure how I went so long without knowing about this place, but I found it and gave it a try and am happy to report that it's pretty awesome. It's clean, bright, spacious, and has a really friendly crew that can help you navigate its somewhat expansive menu. They've got apps, more than one style of pizza, (Detroit and NY styles), beer and fountain drinks and so many specials that it's borderline confusing. I had the buffet on my first visit and so I got to sample a wide variety of their offerings and would order any of them again. Not sure the names of all the pizzas, but the one with the white sauce and ricotta stood out. Really good. On my 2nd trip I ordered a small, (which is big enough for 2 people), with all the meats, and their burrata. The pizza was quickly cooked to order and came out piping hot and loaded with toppings. Loved it. The burrata came with generously portioned cups of hot honey and a balsamic glaze which really set it off. Good stuff. Will order this every single time I go in the future. Long story short this place has something for everyone, is putting out good food and is an overall nice, casual environment that's worth visiting and could easily become a go-to spot for anyone who frequents the area. I'll definitely be back when I'm over there.

Pizza buffet

Met my brother with two kids for their pizza buffet on a Thursday evening. Great selection on buffet and lower buffet price for my 4 year old. The staff serve your picks from the buffet bar. They had a variety of pizzas, bread, knots, and sweets. I'm sad to see they are closing their dining room and doing take out only. My son will miss their pin ball machines!

I tried the Uncle G's buffet for dinner and it was well worth the price while still maintaining the quality we've all come to know from them. If you've ever wanted to try every pizza they offer, Thursdays are your chance! While they don't have everything out all at once, they're constantly making more pizza to fill up the empty trays. The slices are a little smaller than the usual slices, which is great because you can try a lot more that way. There's also a combo of Detroit style, ny style, garlic knots and desserts. You don't get to just grab your own slice, but you tell the staff what you want and they prepare it for you. The one thing I love about the buffet is that they add some of the toppings only after you choose what you want. That way they do not get soggy. Everything tasted great like always especially my personal favorite The Figgy, which I lost count of how many slices I had!

A bunch of people waiting around for pizzas to come out....

This review is specific to their pizza buffet on Thursdays. Uncle G's has a pizza buffet available on Thursdays during set lunch and dinner time frames. They advertise it as having all of their Detroit style pizza as well as a couple of the NY style pizza. Also present would be rotating appetizers and cinnamon rolls and cookies. The description above is kind of accurate, except for a few issues: 1) They seem to be short-handed, especially for a buffet. I saw 4 employees total manning the register and the back. So often there would be a huge line waiting either for pizza (as they serve it to you at the buffet, it's not self-serve) or waiting to order. 2) Often, there is very little pizza available on the buffet when you hit the prime dinner time...and since buffet only runs for 3 hours at dinner time, it's mostly prime time, ha. Instead of all the variety, only a couple would be available and you would have to wait for a variety you want to come out.....sometimes it never comes out. For example, for over an hour, a NY style pizza never came out....or at least not long enough for you to get a slice if you are not standing there waiting. 3) There does not seem to be a good warming mechanism for the pizza on the bar. So if you settle for an unpopular flavor that's available on the bar because you don't want to wait, that pizza is likely to be cold to lukewarm at best. The first 3 slices I got on my first run to the bar were cold. So...I have heard some people love cold pizzas, unfortunately I am not one of them with all that congealed cheese, cold sauce, and cold toppings. So after that I waited for new pizzas to come out...which means dinner took a very long time. As far as the food itself. If you are able to catch the pizza hot, it's actually pretty tasty. The cinnamon rolls are cold and hard, not at all good. The cookie is good for people that likes very soft centers. There are NO greens or salad of ANY KIND on the buffet! So nothing to balance out the huge carb intake, makes it a pretty unhealthy meal. I did have some rather unpleasant customer service interactions on this visit that would make my visit a one-star experience....and greatly decreases the chance of me returning or bringing family/friends here in the future. However, after some consideration, the chance of the exact same situation happening to someone else is probably not terribly high, so the rating does not reflect that.

Okay- I came to support Uncle G's after seeing a Tik Tok they made about how 15 more customers a day could save their local business. Of course I always want to support local. My first note is over the KC musgraves salad. I'm incredibly disappointed, as you can see it came with 1.5 pieces of prosciutto and basically no berries or cranberries. For $8 it's pathetic- I feel robbed. Ultimately everything is alright, However for $60 for a meal I expected it to be bigger, least prepared with what it was supposed to have. I probably will be back to give another chance and support locally. Keep it up

In the debate of New York style vs Chicago style pizza my answer has forever been Detroit. This is an amazing take on Detriot style pizza turned gourmet. I think if you think you are going to be getting a cheap slice of pizza you will be upset at the price but i loved it. I visited the food truck while they were in alabaster. The lady taking my order was amazing, and the chef was one of those uncles who you think is mean but he gives you $50 on your birthday type. I ordered two slices one more traditional there take on a meat lovers and the other a whipped ricotta hot honey dream. I cannot wait to visit in store next time I'm in town.

I've been holding onto this review for some time now and I can't wait for yall to check this one out. Everyone knows how much I love pizza and how I'm always trying to find the best pizza. Uncle G's Pizza has been on my list for a long time and a few weeks ago I was finally able to hunt them down and try their Detroit style pizza for the first time. I got four slices with 3 of them being Margarita, Pepperoni, and a Meatlovers. I'll start with the Margarita pizza since this one was my least favorite. Don't get me wrong it was good just not to my liking. The reason for that was whenever I have had a Margarita pizza it was always basically a thinner crust pizza so the doughyness of it threw me off a bit but like I said was still good still very flavorful. 3/5 Next up the Pepperoni which was probably my favorite. I grabbed the sauce they give you to pour on top and like a Food Wars: character my shirt nearly came off. Everything here was perfectly balances from the amount of Pepperoni to the edge to edge cheese and the marinara sauce! 5/5 The meatlovers slice not much to say here it was great as well you got your sausage, bacon, Pepperoni what more could you ask for besides poring that marinara sauce on top and watching your eyes roll in the back of your head. 5/5 The 4th slice went to Tony and he loved it as well it was a meatlovers slice. If you have not had Uncle G's Pizza before you need to check them out asap which it's their food truck or there new brick and mortar restaurant set to open up March 27 of 2024 in Hoover, AL! Uncle G's is now in my top 10 favorite pizzas of all time and they get a solid 9.2/10 from me. Honorable mention to the cinnamon rolls that they have. I forgot to mention it. 8/10

Pepperoni pizza

Heard many good things about this place so decided to give it a try. The service was great, very friendly, but I couldn't finish a single slice it was that bad. Maybe it was an off night but the cheese and pepperoni tasted stale (as it looks in the picture). Was not a fan of the no-sauce pizza.

We were seriously disappointed after all the great online marketing and hype. Takeaways: - No sauce on a pepperoni pizza, just on the side? Why? This is really just pepperoni cheese bread with a side of tomato sauce. - The crust was chewy, no crispness. - We added pepperoni to The Cool It Down(whole pie). It had more pepperoni than the Pepperoni pizza! - $49 for 2ea 9"x9" pizzas (before tax and delivery fees) is outrageously expensive. On the positive side the tomato sauce was really good, but not enough to make up for this very average and expensive pizza.

The best pizza in Alabama.

Amazing pizza. Been the best in the food truck world for years and now, BAM. We get a physical spot. So happy They specialize in deep dish pizza, but they also do a killer thin crust called a Crispy boy. Try the cool it down pizza. Not your traditional toppings, and it's unreal. The old school pepperoni is top in my book. They use the small pepperoni and the curl up so nice. Great service, clean restaurant. You won't be disappointed. The pizza is made to order so, it's not a walk in and it's waiting for you. Worth The wait!! If you save room for desert, the cinnamon rolls are the best you'll ever have. Huge and have about 2 cups of frosting. I may be exaggerating, but, not much. Wow, they are great cause they are cooked in the pizza over. Crispy on the top and that makes all the difference. Eat local, support your local folks. This isn't a huge chain, so don't expect to see em anywhere else but bham. It's worth the trip.

Love the Dal! It's delicious! It is kind of pricey (but definitely worth it) so I try to order on Wednesdays when it's BOGO.

First all of the lamb was SO tender it was all falling off the bone! We did not need any extra seasoning, though if you run on the salty side you may need to request... Then as we were headed out talking to one of our hosts, come to find out the lamb is from a local farmer/rancher, which in this old/ex chefs mind took this to yet another level. I will absolutely be back again and am so mad that I waited so long to try it! Please treat yourself to the local gem!

We were seated pretty quickly but waited about 30 minutes before the server came back to give us menus. He appeared to be the only person working so I tried to cut him some slack but it was another 20-30 minutes before we were even able to place our order. They brought out salad appetizers, which were essentially just fresh-cut lettuce with no dressing or flavor. Our food finally came out after about 45 minutes of waiting. I ordered the Beef Kebob and my husband got the Lamb Mandi. The beef itself was flavorful and tender, but there were only about 4-5 small pieces sitting on top of a huge portion of rice. The rice was bland and dry. The lamb mandi also lacked flavor, and the lamb was very dry and bland as well. Overall, it was a pretty underwhelming experience.

The sandwich features a large fried chicken breast topped with bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and buttermilk ranch dressing. All of the ingredients complemented each other nicely, making for a very tasty and satisfying meal. David L. and I shared a regular order of fries. The fries were thin, crispy, and perfect for dipping. One of my favorite things at Super Chix is trying the different sauces with the fries. There are about eight unique sauces available at the self-service condiment station. While they would be amazing on the chicken tenders, they also work really well with the fries. For dessert, I ordered the Reese's Peanut Butter Cup Cold Fusion--yum! I've always experienced excellent service here. The staff is friendly and attentive, and orders are prepared in a timely manner. Overall, another great visit to Super Chix.

The large selection of self-serve dipping sauces is a nice touch although some were not to my liking; good thing the selection is large. Now the bad. They do not offer combo meals; you have to order everything à la carte. But that's not nearly as bad as the fries. I've seen the Five Guys meme about the greasy bag full of fries. These fries could have been from that meme. It was a huge portion, which I guess makes up for it being an à la carte item. But they were so soggy and greasy they were practically inedible. I'm going to be hard pressed to go back.
