It was time to renew my CCW, so I reached out to the original place I used, twice, and got complete radio silence. I hopped on the Monterey Sheriff's Department website and saw that Uncle Ed's offers an online course in addition to their in-person classes. I paid for it, started right away, and was pleasantly surprised. It was super informative and nowhere near as dry or monotonous as I expected. I finished the material, passed the online test, and got my certificate. When I contacted them about the live-fire certification, they responded immediately with available dates and let me pick what worked best for my schedule. On the day of the range test, I caught the tail end of their in-person class and was blown away by the difference between Uncle Ed's and the original place I went to. I almost regretted not taking the whole thing in person, but doing it online was a lifesaver for my work schedule. Once class wrapped up, we headed out to the range. Jake went over all the ground rules clearly before we started. During the live-fire test, both Jake and Tracy were incredibly patient, helpful, and friendly. We all had a great time and shared a few laughs. You could tell they genuinely wanted everyone to feel comfortable asking questions without any judgment, and they were truly invested in helping everyone pass. All in all, it was a fantastic experience. I'll definitely be back for my next renewal, and I'm already looking into some of their advanced classes. Huge thanks to Jake and Tracy read more

Located in the GuestHouse shopping center, is Uncle Ed's Outfitters. When entered, greeted with a smile and great customer service. They have a good selection of ammo and guns. If you want to shop local, this is it. read more

A great selection of parts for those that like to build their own. Friendly staff who are happy to help.

Great place great selection friendly service, have a good selection of used firearms.

Went in for my first ever handgun purchase and it went amazing. After looking at a handful of other shops in SLO/Atascadero area I settled with Uncle Ed's and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Everyone there was attentive and gave me advice on my purchase. They told me they would suggest a gun but they wouldn't outright tell me what I should purchase because that decision was up to me (which is not what I experienced with other stores). The whole process went smoothly and they told me exactly what I needed to go through with the whole process. They laid out everything, educated me on the laws and even offered to order me guns online. They're completely transparent and sell everything for their MSRP. So the prices are about as fair as it can be aside from a literal discount. They have a computer that faces the customer and they'll look up guns for you if they don't have anything you like in stock. If they can order a Cali-compliant gun, they'll do it for you. AMAZING service and I'm so happy I chose to go with this shop. Ended up settling with a P320 and I couldn't be happier. They even offered to help me put on and sight in my red dot. One thing to note is if you're purchasing a gun bring cash to buy the gun. They don't take credit because of people in the past charging back the purchases (makes total sense because crappy people always mess things up for honest people). read more

The guys there were very patient with my many questions. Their selection is really good and their knowledge is top notch. They're tucked away in an area you might not expect to find a gun shop but it's definitely worth the visit! read more

I had them work on my gun. They did an ok job. They do need to work on the way they talk to customers and how they welcome a new customer. They are expensive if you are getting ammo shipped there. Go to Bridges and it's $3 per box. Go to Uncle Eds and it's $50 per box. Probably won't come back. Sorry. read more

What a fantastic local business! We were in a time crunch to find our annual donation to the FNRA dinner in PR and they made it happen. Friendly, knowledgeable and oh so helpful, got the item here in time for our event. Uncle Ed's ROCKS!!! Thank you. Mike & Sallie Molina read more

Jacob and the staff are the best! All are very knowledgeable and all have a great attitude. In my opinion the best prices in North County for sure, probably the best prices in all of San Luis Obispo County. If they don't have what you are looking for, they will find it quickly. I recommend them to everyone!!! read more

I have been doing business with Uncle Ed's for years now, buying and selling dozens of weapons. Everyone that works there is knowledgeable and friendly. They are always very helpful in educating me not only on the firearms but also on the ever confusing, ever changing gun laws in California. They even helped me retrieve a rifle that had been wrongfully confiscated and turned over to the Sherriff by another FFL in the county. Believe me, they know what they're talking about, especially when nothing less than an expert will do. Everyone needs a Doctor, a barber and, a gun store they can trust. Uncle Ed's is that gun store. read more

I was there Saturday the 9th of May. 4 guys were inside when I walked in. One appeared to not work there, maybe was a friend. The other 3 did appear to work there. I walked all over the store for 15 minutes or better and no one offered to assist me or ask what I was looking for. I was very disappointed because wanted to buy a rifle. From there I drove up the road the Big 5 where I bought a rifle. I prefer to support local small business, but I guess they had better things to do. read more

Staff more concerned with talking about race politics than helping me get my gun attachment. Outdated stock, archery section in disarray, rude staff. Bad business for the 2A read more

Jake did an outstanding job teaching me how to build an AR in his shop. He's been gunsmithing for over 20 years and it shows. He has all the tools and know how. He knows all the good brands and parts. I'm very happy with the competition AR with high end parts he helped me put together. He was generous with his time and was very patient. Dan K. read more

Uncle Ed's is by far the best sporting good shop in SLO county. They have fair prices on guns and ammo and a knowledgeable staff. Jacob is the best gun smith in our county. I've bought several rifles and pistols used and new at Uncle Ed's and I've never had a bad experience. read more

Uncle Ed's Outfitters is my favorite shop in the county . The Staff is knowledgeable, kind, respectful and patient .The owner Jake goes above and beyond to meet your needs and answer any questions. They have a wide variety of firearms, ammunition and accessories to meet your needs . including alot of stuff you wont see at any other shop in the county read more

Always low on stock, very rude. They are not willing to help you. I've been in there several times and they never have anything I need nor do they ever greet you warmly. You walk in and they make you feel like you owe them something. My mother went in their asking about a taser and they were not helpful and did not care about the safety of her. Try another gun shop before these guys read more

I came in from out of town to visit a . Being Gun Guys, we decided to go over and check out the local gun store. Location was pretty easy to get to we parked walking to the store no one took the time to greet us or say hi. After 5 or 6 minutes later, finally an older lady came out from behind her computer screen, think she was was drunk. She did ask us if we were looking for anything in particular? We told her no thank you, just browsing and continued walking and looking around the store which at the time was very sparsely populated with guns and I think they had a few handguns that was it in the case and this was pre covid-19. They had a couple of cheap AR15s. We really did not see anything in the store that piqued our interest it was kind of run-down. So we left bid them goodbye and then the lady followed us out of the store all the way out to out to my truck and said something I didn't understand it at the time but would she was basically kind of stalking us, it was really weird. She just stood in front of our truck until we started it and then backed out and then she walked back in the store. We stopped by another store in the next town and they told us that the owner's son actually shot himself in the hand while telling a customer that he didn't like Glocks because if you push the Glock out of battery it can't fire and he did it in front of the customer and he press the trigger and shot himself in the hand. He also said that the kid has messed up a bunch of customers guns that he's had to fix that he tells people he's a gunsmith but he can't even take a Glock apart. It's just sad that this great town has to deal with stuff like that how how rudely that we were treated I'll never go back. read more

Not sure I get the reviews on UEO being rude, unhelpful, etc. I have been in a few times and they are always nice and helpful (i.e. the opposite of any negative reviews on here). I have watched them cheerfully advise people that did not have a clue about the sport with way more patience than I would have had. In fact, I had them help me with an FFL that went sideways when the seller sent me a defective item. UEO went out of their way to help me sort it out and return the item; they did not charge me a dime. They will get my business in the future, and they deserve yours. read more

Very good experience with Uncle Ed's Outfitters. These guys are knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommended

very friendly, helpful and great sense of patriotism here they also carry archery gear. Anyone that reviews badly is hurting this small business. I'm always pleased when I visit the store read more

I came in for some help with mounting my scope. I was nice and polite and gave them as much info as I had at my disposal. The information wasn't good enough. They informed me that if I mess it up I would end up bringing it back to them to have it repaired. I wasn't treated nicely and was talked down to for not knowing. I didn't have a good experience and I will not be returning. It really is very easy to go to another gun shop. Ed's is just the closest one to my house. I really wanted to support a local gun shop especially now very unfortunate. read more

These guys can seem a bit rude but they are actually very knowledgeable and nice. Jake has helped me out tremendously!

Everyone here is always extremely helpful, and willing to go above and beyond with everything. When I moved to the Central Coast I needed to find somewhere reliable and trustworthy and I have absolutely found that in Uncle Ed's Outfitters. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a fantastic firearms, ammunition, archery, and anything of the sorts shop. They are absolutely top notch for what they do. read more

Uncle Ed's is a great, local, and friendly store. They have a great selection of handguns, rifles, shotguns, ammo, and cleaning kits. I recently used Uncle Ed's as the dealer for a private handgun transfer and it was smooth, easy, and painless. Take a look at Uncle Ed's and judge them for yourself. read more

My experience here has been great. The owners were helpful and courteous in their interactions with me. They had high velocity .22 ammo when I couldn't find it anywhere else and it wasn't as ridiculously marked up as I've seen elsewhere. Got my HSC card twice and made my first handgun purchase here. I will also be going to them for FFL transfer for a recent online purchase. The owner was very grateful and thanked me for supporting them. read more

Very friendly and helpful. They helped navigate my way through California's unconstitutional gun laws. Prices are fair not great but fair. Will buy again. read more

I am sorry I have to write this but I regret that Uncle ED's did not do a job or even look at my rifle.I didn't want to blow ammo aligning in a new scope. I put the side scope mount on my M1A and felt it was just too complicated to align. They replaced the rings and remounted my scope. They never tightened down the ring mounts, nor did the align the cross hairs to be flat as it was cock eyed. There is also a parallel alignment which moves the scope face left to right. They did not have a tool to remove the muzzle break for a lazer bore site but they charged me anyways. After about 20 rounds of not even hitting the paper I figured out my trajectory was 10 ft up and 10 feet left at 100 yards. So I had to take the thing apart and start over. This is the reason I took it to a professional so I would not have these problems. After everything was set. I started at 10 yards set the alignment and repeated to 100 yards. I should have been able to shoot a few rounds, made the corrections and been done. 100 rounds later at 1.00 per round and the 111.00 they charged me and I don't even think they picked up the gun. I called to let them know of my concerns and they didn't offer any discount or store credit or???? Very disappointed. read more

I hate giving a low score to a gun shop in the local area, but... This shop is signed up to participate with one of the largest online brokers in the country. Easy money, they don't have to keep the inventory, just process for profit and bring a customer in who might make other purchases. The ordering and communication with the online sales was fantastic. It was all lined up to go to Ed's. I then tried to email Ed's but the address was no good. Same issue as the reviews in 2013??? I called the store and was assured it would be taken care of. Three days later the distributor's sales dept called me to say that the lack of communication from Ed's was outside their quality control period. In an effort to guarantee my satisfaction, the order was switched to an FFL in Nipomo and it was shipped overnight. (with a $40 reduction in price) Some businesses understand customer service and communication and some don't. Ed's doesn't. read more

i don't know about the bad reviews. but i went one day to get a gun. i needed to wait a day to be able to pay. when i went in the gun i was looking for had been sold right after i left the day before. they jumped right on it got on the internet to check if their supplier had more, the did. they did not order over the internet, but called their sales rep. so they could have it within 3 days max. it was a walther .22 semi auto, also their price out of the 3 other shops and the other 3 said they where out and had it ordered. but did not say how long it would take. i'll be going to uncle ed's again. read more
