I've been to this range before and had a solid experience shot 9mm and .40 S&W with no issues. The facilities are decent, and I was initially glad to find a place nearby where I could come in to shoot recreationally. However, during my second visit, I politely asked a staff member for help selecting a firearm with a bit more recoil since I'm not fully familiar with various models and calibers. Instead of offering guidance, he loudly accused me of "giving myself away" and said he wouldn't let me shoot anything that might "damage his range." The tone and delivery were unnecessarily humiliating and completely uncalled for, especially since I approached the conversation respectfully and simply wanted to learn. I understand safety and equipment protection are important, but there's a professional and courteous way to communicate that, this wasn't it. As a new handgun owner and shooter this was a great experience shooting and buying ammo at the range. The old timer behind the counter was very helpful and dropping knowledge on steel ammo. Sold me a box of federal range ammo, and explained everything I needed to know about the range to get started. The younger guy is energetic and likewise helpful in giving tips about shooting. I'm gonna start off by saying I used to like this store but recently found out they have no understanding of the law. I went in to go get my FSC and they wouldn't give it to me, after I had already taken the test since I wasn't 21. According to their "DOJ agent" I have to be 21 to get an FSC even though on the DOJ website it states I need to be a minimum age of 18. It was embarrassing they call themselves a gun store and don't even understand basic gun laws. Came to visit family from Vegas, and as an owner of a Cerakote business, I wanted to talk to like minded folk ( so I thought ). So I came to Range Master. There was only 2 customers in there before me. As a retail store owner, you should greet everyone that walks through the door and say "We'll be right with you". I walked around for 10 mins like the invisible man. No one even looked up at me. They have almost no firearms of any kind except for range rentals. 8 of the same 7.62x39 tactical rifles and 2 DD rifles. Why have 8 on display? To make up for the lack of inventory? 3 lever guns, and about 6 shotguns. Prices are astronomical, $1000 for an sig 365 macro. I paid 700 for mine. Most of the store was 5.11 and other apparel so maybe that's their focus. I'm mainly bummed out by the lack of consideration to a potential customer. I don't care who you are, I will talk to anyone that comes in my shop. Do better read more

Great service, knowledgeable and attentive staff! The folks are happy to make a suggestion for you or help you clarify your needs. If they don't have it and think you'd be better suited for something without and unnecessary up sale, they'll be honest and steer you that direction. Plenty of gear, clothes, guns, and ammo! Range is clean and the lanes work most days for the volume of folk combing through. Prices are very reasonable, service is great, staff are good folk! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! We came, we saw, and we blew away 6 targets with 150 rounds of 9mm ammo.....they never had a chance in hell.... Since we were "experts" we overlooked that the lines were motorized and pulled the targets in & out by hand...until some genius asked if the motor was broken...duh! Motor? What Motor? ...no wonder my arms were getting tired! We eventually tired our "expert" selves out, and went to pay... ....the damage came out to be about $70 for two people. My fellow shooting friend, who was another good shot, was making a good smiley face on the paper target's brain area! So now, I have a new saying, "Come on make my day and I will trace a smiley face on your brain"! It was a clean well lite small indoor range and a well stocked gun shop. They had a better selection and cheaper prices than I had seen more North. The staff was friendly and professional. They even had some fairly good Target .22 pistols for sale, along with the usual higher caliber stuff. They also had tons of other stuff and some various sized gun safes. I also agree with Emily S's prior review about this place. After our target shooting fun...which was surprisingly tiring, we went for some great spicy Thai food, in Grover Beach, at Thai Dheva (which cost about $75 for 4.5 overstuffed people). FANTASTIC! Maybe they should start some sort of special Target Shooting then Thai food combo package....and call it the SPICY SHOOTING SPECIAL FOR THE REAL MACHO MAN (OR WOMAN)! I stopped in range masters in a law enforcement uniform on 12/05/22 to buy a handcuff key. At the counter I was asked if I had a phone number, I said no thank you. I was then told have a good day. The gentleman said his manager told him to get a phone number when a customer buys anything in the store and he said if he didn't get my phone number he will never hear the end of it from his manager. Since I needed another handcuff key I provided my phone number. I will not be doing business with range masters again and I recommend other Law Enforcement Officers don't either. I have never been to a business where you were required to provide a phone number when purchasing an item. read more

Lots of stuff to look at and buy inside the store if you need something likes clothes, knifes, guns, etc. Customer service is always super nice and personable. Parking lot is pretty decent size. Great range, great store, and great staff! They offer an excellent CCW class that will make you a better weapons handler no matter how long you have been shooting. I learned a lot from Ken in the class and from both Ken and Andrew on the range. Defending your life or the lives of your family by carrying a concealed loaded weapon in public is a right in our country. That right also carries enormous personal responsibility. These guys will demonstrate and coach you on proper technique. They will point out any bad habits you may have developed. They will teach the best possible ways to survive if you are ever forced to use your carry weapon. The first time I came here I had a great experience. I needed some patches for work & needed velcro added to them. They were able to get it done while I shopped. The next time I came in to grab a tie bar and talked to a lady about some uniform shirts I was interested in. I gave all of my info and even my credit card and NEVER HEARD ANYTHING BACK. Today I walked in to use the range for the first time. I approached the counter and didn't really know how it all worked. I asked the lady if I could rent a gun and use the new ammo I brought. She said that I couldn't rent a gun by myself and that they require two people in order to rent a gun. I was very surprised that she had nothing else to say to me and quickly moved onto another customer. I walked out in disbelief. Before I left the parking lot, I called just to verify the policy and to ask if they allow shooting from the holster. When I mentioned that I was law enforcement, the lady said "oh well that's different." But inside I was never told that I could rent a gun if I was law enforcement. Also they don't allow shooting from the holster (which is normal). I'm unsure why they wouldn't explain the policy further to each and every customer as not all law enforcement officers look the same. I won't be back for work stuff or shooting... read more

He never sounded condescending or rude when going over gun safety and rules, and he was very approachable when I had questions. My husband and I have been in the area for a long relaxing weekend. What better way to spend your Saturday than to pack your pistol and head to the shooting range. We had one attempt with the outdoor range, but the rain was a factor. Range Master is a 5 star facility. I have been to many indoor ranges and have experienced pushy sales people.... being forced to buy their ammo even if your bringing your own weapon. This place only requires you to purchase their ammo if you are renting a piece. And they have a huge inventory of pieces, holsters, accessories, clothing, safes.... I could go on and on. First things first, DO NOT bring your piece without it in a carrier or bag!! This is one of their rules for entering the building and its a great rule. My husband bought us a 9mm for protection and took my step daughter and I here to learn how to use it properly. Learned how to load it, empty it and fire it. They guys running the place didn't interact too much with us since my hubby was showing us the ropes, but they were really professional and seemed to know their stuff. We had a great time. It was $17 per person per hour and we got that price because we bought two boxes of ammo to use. It cost us $117 for the whole outing and that included a $20 case for our gun. We tried to warn my hubby that he needed to have it in a case and it was nice having one of the guys back us up on this. All in all, it was a great trip and I feel pretty comfortable around our gun now. read more
