Great skin and crunch and very juicy chicken. But it was the sides that were even better. Had Mac and Cheese and Slaw. Slaw was perfect and the portion big enough that I took the mac home as I couldn't even start it while dining there. Gobbled the mac as a midnight snack later and, even having to nuke it warm again, the mac and cheese was flavorful with cheesy goodness. Whenever we pop over to Virginia we have to stop by Uncle C's Chicken & Waffles. The restaurant is always clean and offer plenty of sitting if you decide to eat there. The service is quick and friendly. Ahhh I'm really disappointed. My partner and I really wanted to like Uncle C's Chicken and Waffles on Richmond Highway. We've eaten here before (probably back in 2023) and were hoping to have another good experience. Unfortunately, this time around was a total letdown. We ordered chicken and waffles with mac and cheese. The mac was way too greasy and overly cheesy, to the point where there was barely any actual macaroni. I decided to stop by Uncle C's Chicken and Waffles because I was craving some good chicken and waffles. I've been here before, and it's an easy, convenient spot right off the highway with plenty of parking. That said, things have definitely changed over the years, especially the prices. For three pieces of chicken and one waffle, my total was $13.99, which honestly feels a bit high for what you get. The cool part is that you can mix and match between wings, dark meat, or chicken tenders. The service was fairly quick since the chicken is already pre-cooked and waiting -- the only thing made fresh is the waffle. The waffle itself was good soft, fluffy, and flavorful though I personally like mine a bit more crispy. They provide the usual condiments (hot sauce, honey mustard, ketchup, syrup), but I brought my own 100% pure maple syrup. The chicken was solid fried hard, nicely seasoned, not too much breading, and with a good crunch. It tastes like your typical "chicken box" style fried chicken, which isn't a bad thing. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it, but it definitely hits the spot when you're craving that combo. Still, $14 for three pieces of chicken and a waffle (no drink included) feels steep. The restaurant does have other soul food-style sides like yams, mac and cheese, and greens. It's not clear if the place is Black-owned ,the staff working there weren't ,but it gives that carryout, chicken box type of vibe. There's plenty of seating inside, and while they ask if you're dining in or taking out, everything is served in a bag ,so you just grab it and sit down if you want. I ordered the Atlanta, a crispy chicken smothered in honey butter, topped with cheese on a brioche bun. I also go a side of fries. It took them about 10 minutes to prepare my food. It was fresh, hot and very delicious. There was a ton of food and I could not eat it all. I highly recommend getting some of their lemonade if you like sweet lemonade. mmmmmm. Got dark meat, chicken tasted home cooked, crispy and seasoned. Delicious. Waffles- 4/5 good waffles. Nothing crazy. Great size! Mac & cheese- 2/5 mainly cheese, no macaroni and no flavor. Candied yams-4.5/5 pretty sweet, but really good. May be a little too sweet for some people. Cornbread-4/5 good! Moist, small size, only 89 cents a piece. Banana pudding- 1/5 too much real banana was in it. I love banana pudding but this tasted like it was made for banana lovers with extra bananas which I don't personally care for. Overall, food was fairly good! We visited on Sunday around 1pm and it was pretty packed. After waiting a few minutes for a food, a table became ready! There is ample parking in a parking lot. Very disappointed during my last visit. Our normal order is %pc Chicken with 2 sides (all Thighs). On this visit I was told it was "not possible" to order all thighs. When I asked when this policy was changed the server just repeated Not Possible. There were plenty of thighs available in the pass-through window. I also heard through the reviews that their cornbread is amazing, so I added that on the side to give a try too. Bonus it's only $.89 to add on. The wait time for the food was pretty standard considering I was expecting them to make my waffle fresh And based off of the time I waited I expected that that's exactly what happened. Once my food was ready, they packed it up for me, and also threw in one each of their two sauces plus some hot sauce to go grabbed my bag, hopped in the car and headed back to my room Once back to the room with my food, I checked everything and it held up very nicely. I did only need to go maybe 2-3 minutes away, but still I forgot to ask for the butter on the side of the waffle so I expected that to be completely melted by the time I got back and was pleasantly surprised to find that it wasn't. The hot sauce that they give you is like a Texas Pete hot sauce pretty standard for fried chicken and was good usually my go to as well. Look no further for your favorite fried chicken spot. I visited Uncle C's around 9:30pm on a Saturday night after day partying all day and I was starving! Me and my friends had never been here but it always looks crowded so we wanted to see what the hype was about. The line was not long at All. I got the 3 piece fried chicken with Mac and cheese and candied yams plus sweet tea. I requested 3 drum sticks. We got our food to go even though there was plenty of seating space. The sides come in little aluminum pans and all the food was so hot when we took it back. My drunk taste buds thought I was in heaven. The sweet tea was too sweet so I added a bunch of ice but still yummy. The fried chicken is salty but I like it that way, my bestfriend was a little iffy on it. It was so crispy and hot I loved it. The yams were so sweet and the Mac and cheese has a great flavor. I don't think any fast food place has better Mac and cheese. The little corn bread was not good to me. There is so much food you will have enough for left overs. It reheats well the next day. I wish I would have just shared the sides because the flavor is so rich. Customer service A1, super nice and helpful navigating the menu also making sure we had everything we needed. Limited seating plus a crowd, so grab a table when you can! Mimi and RiRi (my mom) opted to try the 3 pc tenders (crispy and flavorful 4.3/5) one with mashed potatoes (not pictured but 3.9/5 wouldn't been perfect with gravy) and one with mac and cheese (recommended by staff was super cheesy and baked to perfection 4.2/5). The meal comes with two yummy mini corn muffins (3.9/5 just wished they were warmer). I opted for the classic chicken sandwich combo (comes with fries and a drink). Ok. I had some of the best chicken I've had in a long time from Uncle C's on Route 1. I have passed by this place several times and said I would try it and did so on 9/10. I went in at a not so busy time, but the food was hot and fresh. The restaurant was clean and the young lady that waited on me was friendly. I ordered the 3 piece with one side, a half and half and banana pudding. The wings were hot, crispy and well-seasoned. The cornbread minis are a sweet touch and the sauces are pretty good. Now the mac and cheese... is like that! Best Mac from a fast food chicken spot in the area. The ice machine was down, but the tea/lemonade was cold and SWEET. Everything was delicious--that waffle was the perfect balance of crisp and soggy--the chicken was crunchy and seasoned damn well--the hot sauce was just an added layer of flavor. This place was definitely hyped up online, so me and my friends decided to stop by after visiting the local trails. Overall, the food was alright, no worth the hype but also not bad either. We had a big bucket of chicken with a large waffle for each. The waffle was full of butter, but the chicken itself was solid. Would definitely like to try the sandwich if we ever come back. Uncle C's is easily in my top 3 favorite places to eat in Alexandria. Although it looks kind of like a corporate franchise from the outside, it's not. We have eaten here several times, and each time, the food is perfect. Literally everything we have tried on the menu is great. The fried chicken is perfectly seasoned and super crispy...and still crispy when you get home! The Mac n cheese is rich and gooey with REAL melted cheese, not that cheap powdery stuff. The creamed spinach is better than any steakhouse I've been to and the candied yams are so good I could eat them for days. The Cheesecake is also perfect. Not too heavy and not too rich. If you haven't been to Uncle C's yet, do yourself a favor and go. You won't regret it. read more
