Hair in chicken
Ebony L.

Ahhh I'm really disappointed. My partner and I really wanted to like Uncle C's Chicken and Waffles on Richmond Highway. We've eaten here before (probably back in 2023) and were hoping to have another good experience. Unfortunately, this time around was a total letdown. We ordered chicken and waffles with mac and cheese. The mac was way too greasy and overly cheesy, to the point where there was barely any actual macaroni. The deal breaker was that my partner found a hair fried into the chicken, not on it, but actually cooked into the batter. We almost threw up. That was enough for us to toss everything. I try to be fair in my reviews, but after this experience, we won't be going back.

Takeout (candied yams, Mac and cheese, and fried chicken)
Shernell H.

Let me first start by saying, I was pleasantly impressed! So, a friend had decided on Uncle C's Chicken & Waffles as takeout for her birthdate celebration and the food was soo goodt! So much so that I had three plates lol andddd that I intentionally saved Uncle C's on my visit again list on Yelp. First thing to note, I'm not one that ever buys fried chicken, it's just not my preference. But, I thoroughly enjoyed their fried chicken! The batch was bussing! Then the candied yams... just absolutely scrumptious. Now on to the Mac and cheese... simply perfection. My taste buds were experiencing fireworks for each plate. If ever I am craving some good Mac and cheese, with candied yams, and some bussing friend chicken, I definitely know where to go!

Wings and cornbread

Today was a borderline miss, but I did go against my rule of not going to places an hour before closing. I had to wait a little longer than I liked... there were people who came after me who left before me. All I ordered was a five-piece wing with cornbread. By the time they called my number, they only had four wings left. So she gave me one tinder, and one half of a tinder ‍. The food was lukewarm. Luckily I live nearby, so I just took it home and heated it. I've been here many times before, so I give them a pass on this one. I used to be usually get three wings with waffles. And it's always great. No more late night excursions!

i have told many of my clients about this place to get a good meal. however, this morning i placed an order online for the first time and it was scheduled for pickup at 7:45am. apparently, you may not open until 8am or so because the problems i encountered on my paid for order: 1) i entered at 7:52am & ethopian lady was sweeping the middle of the floor & she looked at me strange for coming in -- i responded i ordered my breakfast online? she put broom down laying against middle table immediately went behind counter and look at a few stack to go plates looking inside & reading labels. i explained it was a small order with eggs & grits, etc for terri. she went in back & to find my order slip from upper shelf area by this time its 8:03am. and she instructed the cooks to prepare it because im here. then this lady maybe acting manager went to front cook chicken & other fried meat/fish? rack and started moving it around with the utensil & waiting on customers bagging up food and such ---- the problem is she never once after putting broom down from sweeping floor when i entered did she go """wash her hands prior to going behind the counter: * looking in food trays * moving around the cook fried chicken & meats * waiting on customers ****never washing hands from sweeping the floor**** omg! problem 2 (waiting) i had to wait 10 to 12 minutes for my food to bee prepared & 8:10am or so the same ethopian woman with (bun hairdress type on top of hair), she called out my name for my bag to be picked up! problem 3 - she gave me bag & fortunately i was waiting at window bar type table and i opened bag my eggs & grits with butter was there. and i noticed a missing item -- & thought thank god i didnt leave and drive off because my cornbread muffins were not inside my bag???? here mistake made! problem 4) i return to counter & ask a tall young gentleman for my cornbread muffins & show him order slip on front of bag. he gives me small bag with one tiny cornbread muffin & i said its two or three on the picture when i ordered & he said its only one -- i questioned -- im paying nearly $1 for one tiny muffin that has several on the picture for 89 cents¿¿¿ then ms ethopian lady comes over & says its only one !!! im shock , i showed her the picture on the order page when i ordered and she said -- sorry! i said you have three cornbread muffins on the picture? my food wasnt ready & had to wait nearly 15 mins for my online order? you gave me my order in bag and it was missing the muffin and had i drove off -- i would of been without muffin? which she never apologized for leaving out of my bag? and i said in light of the misleading picture, waiting on order, you not completing order properly = with these problems; ""the least you can do is give me a 2nd tiny cornbread muffin and she said no, no, no, - i cant do that? i reinerated: with the problems waiting, missing item in bag & misleading picture the least she could do to correct these multiple problems -- a small muffin was a small way to correct these multiple problems & she refused repeatedly!!! then i said keep the tiny muffin which i would never pay $89 plus tax for "one" tiny muffin & to give me my .89 refund! too which she also refused!!! i dont know who put this person in charge who sweeps floor leave broom middle of floor and dont go wash hands & immediately start working with food and customers with dirty hands from cleaning??? and plus she doesnt know any customer service -- with all these inconveniences i have encountered early this morning at the start of my day and my food now completely cold -- because i had too immediately write this complaint and its now 8:44am & my food still awaiting me to complete -- reporting this complaint!!!! this awfull experience has put a very bad taste in my mouth & loss of appetite-- to have to go thru this very fustrating series of problems as oppose to enjoying my breakfast ~ its shamefull!!! ms terri at sat may 9th at 8:48am.

3piece 3pc Chicken & 1 Waffle

I decided to stop by Uncle C's Chicken and Waffles because I was craving some good chicken and waffles. I've been here before, and it's an easy, convenient spot right off the highway with plenty of parking. That said, things have definitely changed over the years, especially the prices. For three pieces of chicken and one waffle, my total was $13.99, which honestly feels a bit high for what you get. The cool part is that you can mix and match between wings, dark meat, or chicken tenders. The service was fairly quick since the chicken is already pre-cooked and waiting -- the only thing made fresh is the waffle. The waffle itself was good soft, fluffy, and flavorful though I personally like mine a bit more crispy. They provide the usual condiments (hot sauce, honey mustard, ketchup, syrup), but I brought my own 100% pure maple syrup. The chicken was solid fried hard, nicely seasoned, not too much breading, and with a good crunch. It tastes like your typical "chicken box" style fried chicken, which isn't a bad thing. I wouldn't go out of my way to get it, but it definitely hits the spot when you're craving that combo. Still, $14 for three pieces of chicken and a waffle (no drink included) feels steep. The restaurant does have other soul food-style sides like yams, mac and cheese, and greens. It's not clear if the place is Black-owned ,the staff working there weren't ,but it gives that carryout, chicken box type of vibe. There's plenty of seating inside, and while they ask if you're dining in or taking out, everything is served in a bag ,so you just grab it and sit down if you want. They also have a few dessert options. Overall, if you're a chicken and waffle lover, you won't be disappointed by the taste. It's not extraordinary, but it's good comfort food just a little overpriced for what it is.

Was entirely worth the wait !! Everything was fresh and hot .. took 17 minu.. but I would absolutely wait again!! Mashed potatoes, waffles , fried chicken fried fish !! Wow !!!!!

This restaurant specializes in fried chicken. They have chicken sandwiches, fried chicken parts, wraps, and breakfast sandwiches. They also have fish and shrimp. There is a modest sized dining area here and the available parking is also kind of limited. Even hough my interaction with them was limited, the staff seemed helpful and friendly. I ordered the Atlanta, a crispy chicken smothered in honey butter, topped with cheese on a brioche bun. I also go a side of fries. It took them about 10 minutes to prepare my food. It was fresh, hot and very delicious. There was a ton of food and I could not eat it all. I highly recommend getting some of their lemonade if you like sweet lemonade. mmmmmm. The chicken was flavorful and well seasoned. This is an underrated spot in my book. If their friend chicken tastes half as good as it looks, it will taste amazing. I did really like my meal though. I highly recommend checking this place out. You will not be disappointed.

Mac and cheese

Decided to visit uncle C's after seeing the hyper on TikTok. I got the 5 piece fried chicken with 2 waffles, Mac & cheese, candied yams, 2 sides of cornbread, banana pudding. Fried chicken- 5/5. Got dark meat, chicken tasted home cooked, crispy and seasoned. Delicious. Waffles- 4/5 good waffles. Nothing crazy. Great size! Mac & cheese- 2/5 mainly cheese, no macaroni and no flavor. Candied yams-4.5/5 pretty sweet, but really good. May be a little too sweet for some people. Cornbread-4/5 good! Moist, small size, only 89 cents a piece. Banana pudding- 1/5 too much real banana was in it. I love banana pudding but this tasted like it was made for banana lovers with extra bananas which I don't personally care for. Overall, food was fairly good! We visited on Sunday around 1pm and it was pretty packed. After waiting a few minutes for a food, a table became ready! There is ample parking in a parking lot. Everyone is helpful. The restaurant is very clean!

This was OK chicken and waffles experience. They serve southern style breakfast, lunch, and dinner food including fried chicken and seafood; they also serve traditional southern sides like mac and cheese and sweet potatoes. On this occasion I ordered a few menu items, all of which tasted OK. The menu options and quality are similar to other mid-tier fried chicken and waffles restaurants in the area and region. This restaurant is perfect for your hankering for fried food considering their vast menu options. There is ample seating in the dining room if you desire to eat in. The customer service was OK. This restaurant gets no shortage of customers, so I'll certainly give them another try when in the area again to confirm their quality.

Leg, tender, 3 wings; waffle; banana pudding; 6 shrimp w/cornbread

I almost wanna gatekeep this one. Just go. I haven't tried anything I didn't like. From the waffles, to the chicken, fish, shrimp, rice, banana pudding, it doesn't matter as you can't go wrong. The place is very casual. It looks like a converted McDonald's or something. They have regular tables and high tables that they keep fairly clean. Although they have a parking lot, you may be hard pressed to find an available spot during busy hours, especially brunch. They're quite efficient, but you may be in for a long wait at times. Since they have online ordering, I sometimes place an online order for takeout on my way home to Richmond.

Love that they have so many spice levels to choose from. I asked for the medium level and honestly it could be considered spicy to some. So if you're sensitive maybe go one lower than you think. The flavor is more than just spice though. The chicken is really well cooked and battered. The outside was crispy even with sauce all over. Also the fried okra was a sleeper agent, it was so addicting we all kept reaching for it. I'm personally not the biggest fan of waffle fries but these were cooked great. For context, I regularly enjoy spicy food: always top my pizza with crushed red pepper flakes, eat deli sandwiches with a layer of pickled jalapeños or banana peppers, and generally order medium-to-spicy levels for Thai, Chinese, and other cuisines. But I'm not one of those ghost pepper extremists, so I hesitated to try Wooboi's Code Red or Blue on my first visit and ordered Level 3 (Hot). Let me be clear: Level 3 is spicy, but I was proud of myself and ate the whole thing with no drama. It's got a little delayed effect and will make your tummy feel warm the rest of the day. Overall, a delicious spicy sandwich I'd make another trip to Alexandria for. I will be brave and try Code Red next. Tip: If you're going to go spicy, order cold bottled water (maybe 2) and the banana pudding - the dairy helped in between particularly spicy bites. Wish they served milk or milkshakes!

My first memory of Jollibee's, a Filipino-based chain, was from Southcenter in Seattle, where I discovered their very good fried chicken. The Seattle location was wildly popular, and so is this Alexandria outlet. So practically speaking, due to the popularity, it may take some time for your order to be prepared. Be patient! The kiosks help with getting your order in, but when I used the kiosk, it errored out when I tried to order a fountain Pepsi. That's OK, I'd rather have Coke anyway, which they do not have at Jollibee's. Even though chicken is Jollibee's specialty, I wanted to try the Angus Cheeseburger. I also ordered an Ube pie. The burger was pretty good. The bun was great and so were the toppings. But unfortunately, the meat was salty as all get out. I don't know if that was a one-off experience or that's how they do their burgers. I have very fond recollections of Ube ice cream in the Filipino halo-halo dessert, so I had high hopes for Jollibee's Ube pie. It was nice that they heat their Ube pies. The crust is very good. But the Ube filling was disappointing. It had zilch Ube flavor and was kinda runny. Still, I'm glad there's a Jollibee's here in NoVA (there's also one in Chantilly).

Capo Italian Deli - Old Town Alexandria…read more I reviewed our new Old Town neighbor - Capo Italian Deli - early in 2026. Time for an update. The deli is outstanding. Taking up a tiny footprint on the N. Washington Avenue thoroughfare, a few seconds from King Street, the deli delivers both hot and cold deli entrees, soft drinks, and salads. There's maybe half a dozen tables inside and a couple of tables outside, but from what I have seen thus far, most of the trade is with carry-out service, drawing from the excellent reputation Capo brought with it as it arrived in Old Town (the restaurant has siblings in Shaw NW, and Western Market in the District, Tyson's Corner in Vienna, VA, Annapolis and Potomac, MD). Fresh Philly rolls for those seeking a traditional hero sandwich, with go-to seasonings and all of the essential protein groups. My favorite is a large half roast beef half turkey with lettuce, tomato, and mayo (I skip the Italian dressing, which is part of the default, and I skip the cheese). I can and have made this $18 sandwich last three meals (so I ask them to cut the sandwich into three pieces), and the ingredients stay fresh for the next 24 hours. The last time I did this the sandwich fed me from 4:45 a.m. to 9 p.m., as I served as an election officer at one of Alexandria's polling places. Neat, trim, and completely satisfying. Just a point of concern: given its location, the opportunity to double-park while picking up an order seems to be just too tempting. This location, however, cannot over the long term sustain double-parkers. The deli is about 100 feet from the intersection of King Street and N. Washington Street. There is a dedicated lane for cars seeking to park adjacent to the deli. And then there are two northbound lanes on N. Washington Street. That's it - just two lanes serving one of the busiest intersections in Old Town. If a delivery-service car pulls up alongside one of the parked cars, all hell will break loose by drivers who suddenly find a delivery vehicle double-parking in front of Capo, leaving but one northbound lane open for however long it takes for the delivery agent to gather the order and beat it out of there. This happens with remarkable frequency, starting at about 11 a.m. and running throughout the day. That's not going to make good neighbors of Capo's nearby shops. Alexandria Parking has its work cut out for it, but here the rule prohibiting double-parking has to be enforced - it's both a safety issue and an issue of common courtesy. Doesn't matter if you think you'll just be in and out of the deli in seconds. We know it doesn't work that way, not always, and here - not even often. More often than not the double-parker will be creating a traffic hazard just by parking alongside a parked car in front of the deli. Please, don't do this.

This review is based solely on the customer service I received over the phone…read more I had placed a $62 order through DoorDash and chose Capo even though there are plenty of other deli spots nearby, because they normally make really good sandwiches. Unfortunately, the customer service this time was extremely disappointing. I called with a simple question about the bread since I have braces and needed something soft. The person who answered the phone was rude and dismissive, acting as if my call was an inconvenience. When I asked which bread was the softest, he cut me off to say they were "super busy" and could only change the bread on one sandwich, not both. I asked again for clarification, and he continued sounding irritated and uninterested in helping. He repeated that they had a line of people and needed to know which one sandwich I wanted to change. For the amount I paid, the lack of basic courtesy and willingness to answer a straightforward question was unacceptable. This will be my last time ordering from Capo in Alexandria, VA.
