I recently visited Uncle Cheesecake in High Point and really enjoyed hearing the story behind the business. The owner shared that the idea started because he couldn't find cheesecake around the Triad that he really loved, so he started baking his own. After making them for friends and hearing constant encouragement, he decided to turn it into a business. It's always interesting hearing how local businesses get started, and this one felt very organic and community driven. He's even appeared on Food Network shows like Holiday Baking Championship and Chopped, which has helped bring visitors from out of state to High Point just to try the cheesecake. We arrived at 1:30 PM on Sunday, but the business was closed. Before making the 1.5 HOUR drive, I verified their hours of operations, and there was no notice online or on the their door indicating the unexpected closure. Stopped in to Uncle Cheesecakes on Valentine's Day to pick up something sweet for my wife and I. Greeted by Uncle cheesecake himself, I was a bit alarmed to walk in to an almost empty cooler, but he quickly assured me he had plenty of fresh cakes in the back getting cut up and put in containers. He was very friendly, and quick to offer me their valentines specials, but I was on a mission and knew what I wanted. Knowing what my wife likes, and what I like, it was quick, to pick, a slice of peanut butter cup (not pictured) for her and a slice of Oreo cheesecake for me. Both looked fantastic, and after dinner, I was able to confirm they were even better tasting than they looked, creamy with the perfect amount of sweetness. Uncle Cheesecake is a newer discovery, and one I'm so glad to have found. Uncle Cheesecake himself has always been behind the counter when we have visited. We have gone later in the evening each visit but the available selection has always been outstanding! The inside has a modern vibe to it and Uncle Cheesecake made sure to let us know what flavors were available outside of what was in the display case. The taste of his cheesecakes are incomparable to any other cheesecake I have tried! I look forward to going back just to see what new and creative flavors he comes up with! This is my second time within a week driving to Uncle Cheeaecake only to find it closed with the Open sign blinking and a note on the door indicating the time they'd return. The first time I stopped it was 2 pm and the sign indicated they'd be back at 5pm. Today I stopped at 3:30 pm and the time indicated they'd return at 2:50 pm. Very disappointing when you check operating times online and nothing warns you beforehand that they will be closed when the drive is out of your normal route home. read more

The man working was really sweet. When I went with a friend no one else was there, so we stayed and played cards to catch up. They didn't have a lot of cheesecake options available at that time. I've wanted to check this dessert place for a while--I'm a food network fan and saw the owner on Chopped. I was so pumped to see a local! My husband got the OG cheesecake, which is a traditional style cheesecake. I tried a bite and he wasn't wrong! It was super tasty and very good. I got a chocolate cupcake. Holy cow! Super rich chocolatey taste. I ate half and saved the rest for later (it was just as good the next day!) Our service was good! We were there towards the end of their hours--about an hour before closing so they were working on restocking the case and prepping for the next day. This is the place that made me like cheesecake again. I know what you are thinking... what kind of monster doesn't like cheesecake, and why is he in charge of Yelp in the Triad? Very simple. Every cheesecake I've had in my life was extremely rich, very dense, and mostly just in one very plain traditional flavor. The cheesecake at Uncle Cheesecake is different, and to me, in the best way. His cheesecake not only comes in a huge variety of flavors, but the cheesecake is more airy and light, it makes it so that a small spoonful isn't going to overpower you, I really enjoy it, though I am sure it is personal preference. My favorite is the Reese's cup cheesecake, which is no surprise, chocolate and peanut butter were meant to be together. Following that, it's the strawberry shortcake for me, which he says is his signature item. I can see why. It is so well balanced. This would be one I could order a whole cake, no problem. His store is mainly designed for take out, but there are a few tables inside and out. It's a great place to have dessert if you are dining at one of the many good restaurants in this area. I came here because a friend recommended it and I'm glad they did. For my first time there I ordered the Turtle Cheesecake and Bread Pudding. Both were delicious but I'll say my favorite was the Bread Pudding since I was in the mood for a warm dessert. Both desserts flavors were delicious. The Bread Pudding was moist and they poured caramel sauce on it when I bought it. The sauce it soaked in was perfect. The Turtle Cheesecake had a good Oreo crust to cheesecake ratio. I ordered my desserts early on a Saturday morning as I was close by. Thanks to the time I went there wasn't a line. I also ordered my desserts to go as I was out running errands. (3.5 stars) Greensboro firefighter Daniel Gray and his wife set up shop in this spot off Hickswood Road a few years back and have attracted quite a following since. If nothing else, the assortment justifies the hype. Uncle Cheesecake offers cheesecakes (including keto-friendly), cupcakes, bites, brownies, cake pops, dessert tacos (!!), lemonades, and slushies in a variety of flavors, several of which (such brownie bottom choco strawberry cheesecake and cherry Cheerwine cupcakes) are rarely found elsewhere. Anyone with a sweet tooth may have a hard time making decisions here. The cheesecake here is on the tangy side, which may surprise those expecting something sweeter. This actually allows the flavors of the toppings to shine, and in most cases the combinations work well. The cupcakes are more of a hit (the aforementioned Cheerwine) or miss (strawberry daiquiri - it sounds better on paper) affair, but the weekly BOGO nights are conducive to trying out different flavors. Inside, the bakery has little ambiance to speak of, which is hardly an issue given the amount of takeout business during a pandemic. Of a potentially greater concern: the number of maskless folks (owner included) you may encounter in a smallish space (though in fairness, this may not have been reflective of their norm). Alex Amoroso continues to hold the Triad's cheesecake crown, but Uncle Cheesecake should not be overlooked as an alternative. Updating my review from last time and bumping it up a star because of their cake pops. I think they need to scrap the cheesecakes and focus on other items. They do have cupcakes, which I haven't tried, but I did take a taste of my kid's cake pop and found it to be really good! This cheesecake was ok. I ordered two cheesecakes. The Oreo and the "Snickers with peanuts." The best part about the "Snickers with peanuts" was what was on top of the whipped cream and the crust. The actual cheesecake was pretty boring except for the huge chunks of peanuts throughout. The Oreo cheesecake had much more flavor and even though, purchased for someone else, I really enjoyed that one. I am a sucker for cheesecake so I was stoked to see this business pop up on my feed. I ended up going with the generic options being Oreo and Reese's. They certainly didn't disappoint and actually provided a different experience than what I'm used to! While not my favorite style, the light and fluffier texture for a cheesecake certainly was easier on the stomach than what you expect. They did a great job with the usual fan favorites of Oreo and Reese's and I highly recommend checking them out! I love cheesecake and the turtle cheesecake from Uncle Cheesecake was amazing! I feel incredibly lucky that my aunt lives around the corner from this gem. Cons- Unfortunately the slices were smaller and warmer than I prefer, they did however taste better after being refrigerated over night. It was enough for a serving size for me and I would be ok supporting good quality product as long as it tastes good .... I'm still debating this Pros-They seem to be improving in variety of choices and the location is nice Cons- Service was VERY unpleasant. I would have been fine with self check out. Definitely did not give any feelings of going and eating joyfully. No napkins, no forks, I felt blessed to be given a bag. Pros- Has potential to be a nice family friendly environment Cons- The ambiance , when we walked in , I could not smell anything sweet at all,no sugar or spices, nothing nice. I literally thought they might be edibles and had to ask if the food was "regular" because I needed to make sure the kids could eat it. The smell was so overwhelming!!! This was my first and only visit. I bought a slice, (and when I say slice it was more like a sliver), of the caramel/pecan cheesecake. The graham cracker crust was very salty and the cheesecake was just "eh." Definitely not worth the $7.00. The young lady who serve us looked and acted like she didn't want to be there and came across with an attitude like we were interrupting her day.
