Mediocre donuts at best - they don't like donuts - and specifically don't like customers. Lots of signs saying "no running" "no playing" "don't touch the glass" . There's no place for customers to wash their hands- as the bathrooms are closed to customers- which may be against county health codes. I got there a mid day on a Sunday, so selection had been pretty picked over, but I found some that caught my eye, and even a delicious Apple fritter. Totally was expecting to be wowed reading reviews: definitely had too high of expectations! The place was clean, small with two tables and service was quick and kind. There was a short line and we were up: got a strawberry frosted, glazed, banana cream filled and a few donut holes: lemon, chocolate and red velvet. They threw in a few extra holes which was nice. The donuts themselves were good: solid base! The issue was how sugary they were: Strawberry: basically inedible because of how much frosting/icing, pure sugar and no flavor. Glazed: best of the bunch! Solid base. Banana cream filled: no banana, just more icing inside. Holes: Lemon + chocolate: pretty traditional for these fillings Red velvet: this was nice and had good flavor! All in all not really worth the 20 min drive we took. They beat Dunkin' (although all donut places best Dunkin'!!!!) you can't get better donuts than Granny's. They offer donut holes, and every type of donut you can imagine. They also have coffee drinks and smoothies. I work close by and the best days at work are when a coworker grabs Granny's for everyone. They make donuts all day so they really don't run out. From the other reviews I expected to be completely wowed by Granny's Bakery, however when I arrived, I was instantly disappointed. I expected to get the feels of sweets being baked and lightly fried goodness. This Donut Shop was not like that. The donuts were CLEARLY NOT fresh, freshly glazed or even warm. The reviews said these donuts were a mix between Krispy Kreme and Donkin, but it was more like dried out Donkin quality. I notice that there were gnats flying around in the bottom of the unwrapped apple fritters and bear claws, but I still purchased an apple fritter that was wrapped. The flavors were ok but again I could tell that the donuts were days old, they were tough and dry and not moist and flaky. To finish out my half dozen I also tried a banana creme filled donut, a maple bacon donut and a cinnamon toast crunch donut. My favorite donuts are chocolate covered, creme filled donuts, so I got 2 of those. The cashier added 4-5 donut holes for free to the bag, which was a nice touch and easy to try out for the way home. The doughnuts were much better warmed up in the microwave especially the maple bacon! I just wished that these donuts were rotated and thrown out properly. From the gnats and the dried donuts that I tasted here. I probably would not return, as I didn't even finish eating the ones I purchased on this trip. read more
