We enjoyed sitting on their outside tables with a great view of Downtown Los Angeles and Mariachi Plaza. Somehow this little restaurant does not get its fair share of applause in the LA vegan community. The food is fresh, flavorful, and healthy, and I'm so glad we finally tried it. The owner was so friendly and helpful, and he took a moment to share his mission of making health food that doesn't just avoid animal products, but also nourishes the body. I ordered the enchiladas (one Paula's Mix and one the Chickpea Mix filling). They were stuffed with so many beans and veggies and piled with more veggies on top. The veggies were seasoned so well and the salsas (both red and green) were delicious. It came with a choice of sides and a side salad as well. My husband got the 16 oz Al Pastor Bowl and a pupusa on the side. Both were delicious. The restaurant was small inside, but very clean and had a friendly atmosphere. Parking was a bit of a hassle - street parking only in a jam-packed neighborhood, but it was well worth circling to find a spot. We will definitely be back. read more

Solid Vegan and the food is not only to nourish the body, but your mind and soul. We had an excellent meal today! This was my first outing since my recent hospitalization and rehab to build my body back in fighting cancer. What a sweet little find! My friends and I were in the area for a conference and were looking for a quick vegetarian bite. To our delight, we found this awesome vegan Mexican/Indian fusion spot in the heart of Boyle Heights. Our server, who I am assuming was the owner of the place took so much pride in explaining to us how everything he was going to serve us was vegan and made in house. We ordered chips and guacamole, taco platter (pastor, choya- chickpea stew), tacos de picadillo, and taco de nopales. The platter came with rice and beans and my friend and I ordered agua de sandía and agua de guanábana. The pastor was made with mushrooms in a pastor marinade, choya was made with chickpeas, and picadillo was made with a blend of lentils that had been stewed spices for hours. As the owner explained, nothing they use is made with inflammatory artificial meats. The chips were baked, the guacamole and aguas frescas were made on the spot and nothing was over sweetened. 5 stars because this place is offering the community real health on a plate! The flavors offer you that, real healthy and flavor infused guisados that come from using real ingredients. Don't come here expecting to satisfy a salty fried filled craving. Un Solo Sol is such a delight that even my carnivorous husband loves it! I love everything about this restaurant. It's as home style as it gets. The decor is simple, but the art on the walls is colorful, eye catching and thought provoking. It celebrates Boyle Heights, and the Mexican and Central American experience. I like sitting by the window so I can people watch the mariachis across the street or the skaters doing their tricks. Everything on the menu seems delicious so I try something new every time. This week I went with my husband who had the Al Pastor Bowl and I had the Diana's Pupusa plate. I'd been really interested in trying these because they are made with yellow corn and the fillings can include the traditional loroco and beans, but also nopales and I love nopales! As a plus the plate was delivered with delicious steamed platanos. The food is well cooked, fairly priced and served at a reasonable time. No long waits. Carlos, the owner is often there to greet you and even though you can place your order via the QR code, he comes by and takes your order. I need to eat here more. I have tried many dishes and they have been nutritious, comforting, and delicious. My mom is an amazing hispanic cook, and I grew up with many of these dishes. She has competition now LOL! I tried their pupusas and they're the absolute best, fresh maize dough (masa), no lard, not greasy, no unhealthy and toxic vegan cheese, simply great. We made the (not-so) mistake of watching a vegan food show on YouTube that featured vegan pupusas. While the vegan pupusas they featured were not from here, this prompted an impromptu vegan pupusa date night. We got two chipilin and bean pupusas and one loroco and bean. They didn't have a cheese option (or I missed it), and I admit, I was a bit apprehensive to have a pupusa without cheese, but I should not have been. The masa's consistency was chewy and moist and delicious, and balanced the mashed beans and the veggies perfectly. I just wish they gave more of the curtido and salsa. My partner got a pozole verde with mushrooms. We also got a champurrado and some fried plantains. Everything was so delicious. This is a small space, so I can imagine it can get crowded (although when we went, it was ok - got filled up the later it got) -- we parked on the street a couple blocks down. read more

Finally had the opportunity to come back again and now it's a 100% vegan restaurant. Spoke with the owner and he said he focuses on using natural food and not the processed stuff. He was really nice and told me about his journey. I ordered Sandra's Saltado (Peruvian entree. Choice of tofu or Portobello mushroom, cooked with tomato, red and yellow bell peppers, red onions, and home fries. Brown rice and house salsa on the side.) I also ordered the nopalitos and cholay (Indian curry chickpeas ) tacos on the side. My girlfriend had the Picadillo (lentils) burrito. Food was extremely flavorful. We weren't a fan of the cholay. Nopalitos taco was the favorite! It's a small place with one large table of about 8 in the middle of the room and two tall chairs tables for 2. It was a chill ambiance. People picked up Togo orders and left. There is one gender neutral restroom in the back. Parking can get tricky. Glad we easily found one on the street on a Saturday early evening.
