Cute little restaurant in the Target complex in Suwanee on Peachtree Parkway serving fresh, nice food. There are very few choices for hibachi and sushi in this area, so when Umami was opened I was quite excited since I like Sushi. This restaurant did not disappoint. Their sushi was fresh and nice, I have tried Spicy Tuna and California Rolls, both were quite good. The prices are very reasonable. The staff is very welcoming and the decor is nice and modern. I have also had Chicken Teryiaki here and it was equally good, with a price around $6.99 for a plate this is bang for the buck without compromising the taste. They have quite a number of offerings in sushi, I wish to try other flavors again, especially the spicy flavors - may be get blown on a "Dynamite" or jump on a "Volcano" or tame a "Green Dragon" :) read more

The hibachi was good. The sushi's portion was small for the price, and they tasted like Publix sushi. Nothing special. You'd be better off going to Roll and Pho nearby for cheaper rolls, bigger portions, and better taste. They upped the price of bubble tea. How can you justify charging higher than Quickly when it took at least 15mins to get the drinks and they tasted so bland?.. Very slow service. I understand that they're new but they should at least hire someone who is somewhat knowledgeable about sushi or train their staff better. We had the shrimp Bento box for dinner and it was very good and reasonable price (less than most Japanese restaurants). Fried rice was good and I thought the California roll was one of the better ones and I have had. I liked the amount of crab meat that was in it. The portions were good but not huge. I would definitely go back again. However, I'd probably not go back for dinner. But I would go in for lunch or take out. It's very nice and very clean but the dining area has a "upscale Panda Express" feel to it, with a walk up counter for you to order the food. Again there's nothing wrong with that. Okay, So now I have been here 40 times. Umami has been very consistent. I have not had a bad piece of sushi. The prices and quality of food (and the nice staff) have kept me coming back again and again. I love sushi but I hate paying high dollar prices to walk out hungry. With Umami, I pay around $10-$12 dollars, I walk out full and happy. The owner told me once I reach 100 visits, I get a prize (lol), at this rate I should have it by next year. Keep it up. I really enjoy seeing "mom and pop" restaurants thrive in today's world of Applebee's, Chili's and the like. Just wish they could get some hamachi. My sushi world would be complete. Umami has recently raised their prices on their 6 piece nigiri special but increasing it one dollar and a few of the other maki's have also gone up in price. I hate to say these small increases has slowed my pace a little bit In coming in. I understand, Umami has to keep up with the bill collector and they have to make their money. My quandary now is that with the raised priced, I'm essentially paying the few dollars more now with the same, stand in line, order, pick up your plastic ramekin with no soup or salad and no table service. For the money we are now paying, I can get 6 pieces, a few rolls, soup and salad with real porcelain ramekin at Mr.Lees. So I just you all to be aware that those little increases could have a deleterious effect down the road... maybe not. My boyfriend and i've been here three times in total. I've been meaning to write a review but I always forget to. The interior is modern, simple and clean. The prices here are great. The portion size is more than enough, and the flavoring is oh so yummy. The first two times we got the chicken teriyaki. The second time we tried the BBQ Eel roll and it was pretty good. Then the third time around we wanted to try something new so we went with the Beef teriyaki. The beef teriyaki is great. I just wish the mushrooms were cooked just a bit longer. Umami is a family favorite in my house. We love getting the bento boxes to-go, and I especially love the expansive list of delicious sushi. They have wonderful iced fruit teas, which I drink all the time (try the passionfruit, trust me!) which are the perfect way to beat the summer heat. The only glaring issue we have is that many times we experience very long wait times when getting our food to-go. With that being said, the food is always very much worth the wait! It's a very casual setup, warm atmosphere, and the grand menu shouldn't scare you but more like, welcome you! It's nestled on the side of like a few other stores and a Walmart as well, but it just looks humble. The food was warm and great, and I can't wait to try more! There's no stress when you're inside and I'm currently wondering whether they do delivery... anyway! Very affordable teppanyaki menu, sushi, and bento box items. I walked in, got a shrimp teriyaki with fried rice and veggies to go, under $9. Lots of food, very good for the price and speed. I was not impressed. The reviews led me here, but the food was not good enough for me to return. I went during a pretty quiet time and had one on one time with the order taker/waitress. She was pleasant but kept calling me "girl" more in a familiar way, like "girl you're going to love it" "omg that's an awesome choice girl". Maybe it was her way of relating, she even threw in a "sweetie" at the end. It was a bit weird for me because I'm a grown woman used to being called ma'am in the south. She recommended the volcano roll after I told her I had never been there before, and wanted to try one of their specialties. Perhaps my expectations were too high but I was thinking "I'm going to blown away by this sushi". It was meh. Even though I said light mayo, the whole thing was drowning in spicy mayo. I shudder to think what it would be like if I didn't specify light mayo. The nori was super chewy and mushy making me think this was old sushi, or sushi made a while ago, and they just the added the mayo topping. The sushi is made with fresh ingredients; the nigiri is very satisfying. The hibachi dishes come out with servings large enough to fill me up. Of course, bubble tea is ON POINT here. My favorite teriyaki here is the salmon teriyaki. It's very surprising how the teriyaki sauce complements the salmon, which is very tender, despite the amount of time it takes to grill. This is now my favorite hibachi restaurant! I love the prices. I came here with my best friend. I got the shrimp hibachi for about $9.00. They give you a lot of shrimp along with rice, and also yummy sweet carrots and vegetables. My best friend got the salmon hibachi ($10.00) and let me try some of her food.
