The menu seemed to be really busy and I had a hard time narrowing in. They had pictures of combos but no actual combos on the menu which was a bit confusing. The cashier and owners were quite friendly and I wish I could rate this higher but the truth is that the fish quality was a good step lower than most supermarket sushi. We ordered 2 rolls, nigiri and a kids chicken teriyaki. The service is very fast which I appreciate when eating out with a toddler. The fish is fresh however it is very pricey for the amount of sushi you get. The kids chicken teriyaki is worth it though, tasted great and was a pretty big portion. We ordered the OMG roll ($16) and the Ronin roll ($18). The Ronin roll was good and love the marbled seaweed but a very small portion and it did not justify the price. The Omg roll was also decent but once again a small portion. I wish the rolls were bigger. We also ordered the two nigiri salmon pieces for $6 which was okay. It is definitely hard to find a good express hibachi and this place here, *chef kiss* Definitely recommend! I been here a few times already and it's been good every time! I got the chicken teriyaki (which is pretty much chicken hibachi) it comes with rice or noodles (I got fried rice), veggies (sweet carrots, cabbage, shredded carrots, broccoli), and shrimp sauce/yum yum sauce. The flavor of the chicken is delicious. I also got the volcano roll, pretty standard of what a volcano roll is but it is good as well! The spring rolls/eggrolls come two to an order and that was okay, nothing to spectacular. I also got a side of plain noodles. The place itself is easy to find, a nice small restaurant. we came around 11:45am and it wasn't busy at all. The customer service was great and the teriyaki sushi roll was amazing 10/10! However, the chicken and shrimp hibachi was gross. The chicken tasted boiled and had literally no seasoning on it. The rice was also super bland. The hibachi plate came with a buttload of veggies (carrots, broccoli). We spent $40.29 and only ate a few bites (besides the yummy sushi). All in all, only come for the sushi. Anything else is a waste of money and utter disappointment. read more

I'm perplexed by the reviews here. I was expecting more. I will say that service was excellent and they did not get annoyed when I asked for a side of Sriracha and then another side of spicy mayo which by the way was not spicy. This restaurant is good for people who are on the go. There's no sit down sushi bar. You go to the register and order what you want and then they bring it to your table. The sushi is very reasonable, but after tasting it I could see why. I decided to try the Umami roll which contained whitefish, cooked salmon avocado and spicy mayo. The avocado and scallions were completely lost in the roll. The rice was okay but didn't taste like sushi rice. It was unmemorable. I also decided to try their tofu teriyaki. I was not expecting the enormous portion that came out but it was served with a side of rice and a bunch of vegetables. The tofu was pretty good. I couldn't finish the teriyaki, but I got enough of it to say it was just also okay. Nothing to rave about. They do serve boba tea which I would have liked to have tried but I was really full. A few of the sushi spots around my area happened to be closed on Sunday so my options were limited. Got on Yelp and this place popped up with some good reviews. So I had to check it out to see how good it really was. In terms of design Umami is very modern and elegant. It doesn't over do it too much though. The interior is bright and spacious. Lots of warm tones and hardwood as the choice for dining tables. In Umami, you walk up and order at the counter as if you were going to fast food restaurant. This is becoming a bit more common as I've seen lately. The menu is located on the TV screen that located above the menu. You have options for sushi rolls and nigiri. They offer entree dishes as well like teriyaki and hibachi style dishes too for those who don't want to eat strictly seafood. On top of all that they also offer some bubble tea options. The menu is a bit of hybrid to attract all sorts of crowds. Kind of felt a bit Americanized. The sushi itself isn't too bad actually quite flavorful. The portions are kind of small compared to the offerings other establishments. Depending how hungry you are this may or may not fill you up. Also aesthetically the rolls were not the best looking as well. In terms of the bubble tea, it was a bit too sweet. Average at best and you definitely tell it's not their specialty. Overall, it was a good experience. It's a great option for the area. Kind of out of the way for me though. The price is bit up there for the amount you get. The service is almost non existent after you get your food delivered to the table. The taste of the sushi itself was actually really good, still the look was not that impressive. For the area, this restaurant is a gem. I liked that they zoned into an area where bunch of us drive through everyday for work, with nothing else like it surrounding it. Lets face it, the Suwanee-Alpharetta area on 141 is very limited. Either way, like always, decided to check it out! You know, the adventurous side of me usually gets me in trouble, but not here! Usually I've zoned into the Hibachi part, which is what they seem to be most popular part (You know, quick lunch, get in - get out) I have ordered the Teriyaki Chicken numerous times, as well as Beef, and they have always been consistent. Great flavor. By the way, something they offer that brings me back every time.... the sweet carrots that come with the platter. Boy are they delicious, works well with the saltiness of the teriyaki chicken, well played Umami! Finally, only thing that I'm still not convinced on is the Thai Tea. Needed a tad more flavor, or maybe my palate is used to the Gwinnett Bubble tea shops. I will try it one more time and see. But overall, I recommend this for lunch if you are in the area. My favorite hibachi takeout place (temporarily closed as of March 2020 due to the pandemic). I would recommend the hibachi over the sushi here. The sushi is not bad by any means, it is decent and cheap. But this is a casual dining/takeout place where you place your order at the front counter, so I would not come in expecting high quality fresh sushi - you get what you pay for here. The menu consist of a variety of sushi/sushi rolls, fried appetizers, bento boxes, teriyaki/hibachi entrees, and salads. Everything is very affordable and priced reasonably for what you get. I'm a huge fan of the beef and shrimp hibachi plate (listed as teriyaki on the menu). The hibachi entrees come with fried or steamed rice, vegetables, carrots, and yum yum sauce. All I can say is that the food is delicious. They give you generous, filling portions and they don't skimp out on the meat. Everything is seasoned well. The beef has a nice char to it and is in small, thinner chunks compared to other places. I've seen other places put large, tough chunks of beef in their hibachi which taste dry and unseasoned. But they nailed the texture and taste here. Fried rice is delicious. It's a simple detail to note, but I really enjoyed it. Vegetables are good. I am not a fan of the candied carrots. I don't really like sweetened carrots so maybe I'll ask if there is a way of making them unsweetened next time. Yum yum sauce is tasty as well. Good mix of savory and slightly sweet. Some places make their yum yum sauce too sweet but once again these guys do it just right. Customer service is always good. These guys are friendly, quick, and efficient. I understand they have to temporarily close due to the pandemic. It just made me realize I shouldn't take them for granted haha, I've been having hibachi cravings and miss them that much more now. My first time here tonight and I was kinda skeptical. I checked Yelp and saw an 'A' health rating and I was in the door. It's a counter-order setup and they bring the food to you. It's a mix of everything from Sushi to chicken teriyaki to noodles. I had the salmon sashimi (6 for $7) and a tuna avocado roll ($5). Hubs had chicken teriyaki which came with mixed veg. I guess the reason why it was somewhat fast was because it was me and another family there. This place is good for something quick and easy, not too greasy, friendly, and clean. I haven't had the sushi here because we usually get the hibachi items. I'm not a big fan of hibachi restaurants because I feel like they are usually over priced for what the food is. This is more of the fast food hibachi style but that works for me. Everyone is very friendly and a few of them have come out to talk to my 2 year old. I love the teriyaki chicken to share with my daughter and then it comes with grilled vegetables and sweet carrots and rice. The amount of food is a decent portion too. One day as I am driving through the Target parking lot, I notice this restaurant. For some reason it seemed out of place, (too good to be true), but I felt that it deserved further investigation. When I checked the Yelp reviews, I noticed that the reviews were very favorable so I stored the information. On the day before Valentine's Day, we start thinking about a place for lunch because when it comes to eating out, we prefer lunch to dinner and we never eat out on Valentine's evening. We wanted something close and quick and different from our regular choices. This was the perfect choice because we walked in shortly after 11am and well ahead of the crowd. This restaurant has a very simple and clean aesthetic with wooden tables and chairs. We almost sat at a high-top but changed our mind when I realized that the food would not fit. To the right of the door, you can sit on a bench and to your left, you will notice the traditional tables. Once you walk to the counter and place your order, have a seat and your order will be delivered when it is ready. After looking over the menu, we finally decided to order the following: Crunchy Shrimp roll, A Boston roll with shrimp, avocado, cucumber and spicy mayo, AAC roll with (asparagus, avocado and cucumber), a side of fried rice, spring rolls, Beef Teriyaki with noodles, mixed vegetables and cooked carrots. We decided to go all in so that we could try a variety of items and get a clear picture of their menu. My husband loved his vegetable roll and I REALLY loved my Shrimp and Boston rolls. They were delicious and they are still calling my name! The beef and noodles had great flavor but a bit too much oil. If you order them, you may want to request them light on the oil. I found that the egg rolls were a bit heavy on the oil as well, so that needs to be addressed. Finally, the "fried rice" isn't really fried and it isn't salted. I like my fried rice to be truly fried, along with onions, garlic, eggs and vegetables. However, I surmise that this rice is prepared in a simple manner so that it can be paired with savory dishes and sauces. No problem because rice "in no way" affected my enjoyment of those incredible (fresh and flavorful), rolls. I just slid it to the side and kept eating. Yes Honey! The service was great and it was an employee who actually suggested that I try the popular crispy shrimp roll. It was a great choice! My boyfriend and I tried this place for the second time and it's just not good. We ordered $30 worth of food and left both hungry. We ordered gyoza, shrimp tempura, volcano roll, spicy salmon roll, spicy tuna roll, and spicy salmon handroll. The gyoza, shrimp tempura, and handroll was good but the other 3 rolls were very mediocre. I love volcano rolls but at Umami their volcano roll is 10% meat and 90% spicy mayo sauce. It was actually kinda gross it was just basically rice and sauce. If you go to Sam's in Duluth, their volcano roll is around the same price and they PACK the rolls inside and on top. Idk the spicy tuna and salmon were very basic. It's just mediocre. You'll leave hungry. read more
