While in Largo on vacation we were craving Sushi.. When we walked in and were greeted by a very friendly Hostess.. After being seated we were quickly greeted by a sweet waitress who took our drink order, then appy order, then dinner order.. Had a nice crab rangoon, followed by a nice salad.. The sushi was OUTSTANDING.. We eat a lot of sushi in NY and we loved their rolls that they offered and the variety. The bussing staff was quick to provide water or anything else we needed. This is a recently opened sushi bar. It's located in a rundown plaza on Missouri in Clearwater but don't -by any means -let that put you off. Place is large and looks like it might have been another type of restaurants in a prior life. Nice sushi bar with many seats. We ordered the seaweed salmon skin salad and three rolls (with soup and salad), and it was excellent. Kudos for the salmon skin salad. Amazing, not large, but so tasty. The sushi rolls were fresh, as was the salmon and tuna. The waitstaff was courteous and very open to my request for no mayonnaise on anything. I'll be back. read more

The fish in several of the rolls did not taste fresh. Each of the rolls had a TINY amount of fish in them and some of the fish meat was bland. Ginger was the cheap, pink type instead of the natural yellow type. Overall, food taste and quality was sub par. read more

Having only ordered through Uber Eats, I cannot speak of the restaurant as a whole, but from what I've ordered I've been quite happy. Their sushi isn't very fancy, but it's fresh, well prepared, and the prices are very fair. The three roll lunch special for 12 dollars is a steal! Where most places give you smaller 6 peice rolls with their specials, Umai gives you a full 8 peice roll. 24 peices in total and I order it quite often. Their signature rolls are a little more creative and my personal favorites include the monster roll and the crystal roll. I haven't tried their main Japanese cuisine yet, but their sushi has been in my regular rotation. Bous points go to an excellent spicy scallop roll (I always add cucumber and tempura flakes) and for having by far the best ponzu sauce I've ever had in any sushi restaurant. Period. Not even close! Don't let the location fool you! Going into the restaurant I had low expectations because the ambiance didn't feel right but that is the only area that needs improvement. The staff was very helpful in making recommendations for what to order and quickly yet efficiently took our orders. The lunch specials are fantastic and you definitely get the best bang for your buck here. The food itself was phenomenal, presentation, quality, and quantity were perfect. We had 3 people in our party and we went on our lunch break so time was limited, we ordered, were served, and cashed out in 30 minutes! **Do not be turned away by the surrounding plaza!** It's true - the location has zero appeal on the outside. However, inside is clean and open. We went around 4pm for an early dinner. THIS PLACE IS AWESOME! We ordered 3 rolls (Mexican, volcano, and sweet potato + cream cheese). All were VERY good. The volcano has chopped bits on fish and scollops in the baked topping. Best volcano I've had ever. We also ordered the hibachi chicken dinner to share. Big portion of chicken, veggies, rice, and noodles. I brought my bride here after having my earlier guinea pig visit was promising. We started off with clear soup for her, miso soup for me and steamed gyoza to share. This place is awful. I rarely leave reviews but this place should be inspected by the department of food safety. I ordered a spicy tuna roll, which is typically expected to be raw tuna with spicy Mayo. No. It was warm, dry tuna from a can, and it tasted like something I wouldn't even feed my cat. The food made my boyfriend sick. The miso soup was cold and disgusting, and I didn't even know it was possible to mess up broth. The spicy Mayo wasn't even mixed. It was packaged Mayo and sriracha squirted next to each other. My stomach cringes at the thought of this place. You have a better shot at making a better sushi roll on an episode of survivor with a dirty fish torn apart with your bare hands. I wish I would have taken a photo of this food. For the health and safety of others, I highly recommend not ordering food from this place. Giving 1 star is generous. read more

I was so excited to eat sushi today. So I looked up a local restaurant with great reviews and I found Umai sushi. I mean the food didn't look like the pictures, but I still ate. With all the sauces I didn't feel anything different on the taste, but it only took me 20min to run to the bathroom. Between diahrrea and vomiting I never felt so bad in my life after a meal. Omg, I'm just hoping it's not some sort of bacteria or something worse that can affect my life forever. Is this even sushi graded meat? I regret my choice and don't recommend anyone to eat here. Christmas time and my friends were looking for a bite to eat before seeing the Christmas lights out at Largo Central Park. This was nearby so we decided to stop in. Don't be fooled by the outside! It was dark and deserted. I was kind of wary since it's in a strip plaza but the inside was pleasant. There is tons of parking though! Seems like it's a family owned business since their kids were also playing at one of the tables. I love these kind of hole in the wall places! The prices were really affordable. I'm beginning to question Yelps relevance. I had an interesting conversation with a chef/restaurant owner a couple weeks ago that gave me concern but that's another story. Yelp certainly missed the mark on this one. This Sushi is really a step or two down from mediocre. Upon entry into this restaurant it was apparent we were the only patrons. Unusual for a Sunday at lunchtime. The smell was interesting as well. It smelled like wood stain, as if someone had been refinishing furniture. The waiter was efficient and friendly as we ordered four rolls, all of which were pretty paltry and somewhat anemic looking. Wimpy little rolls with really no pizzazz to them. The taste definitely matched their appearance. The spider roll was the "better" of the four, in spite of the soft shell crab tasting old and freezer burned. I'm one hundred percent serious when I say "save your money, the sushi at Publix is better than this"!! read more

More than a few of delivered items were half the quantity of what we have paid for and one item the most expensive of all was entirely missed. The total of missed item was close to $30. How would the restaurant expect us to pay for unfulfilled orders without any follow up? This restaurant shorted multiple orders and left no instructions to door dash delivery person. A true diamond in the rough. Honestly one of the best and extremely affordable. As soon as you enter you are being welcomed at the door. We sit where we like and the waiter is extremely helpful and inviting. This was our first time in here so the waiter explains how the menu works and suggest on a couple of the most popular sushi rolls. Right away we were sold one them. We get our home made sangria and automatically begin to love it. Sushi came right away. We left and usually when we leave a sushi place we leave like why did we eat so much, not here.
