We booked the ferry round trip tickets from ultramar website for $35 USD very nice service you need to get your tickets scanned at the ticket counter as soon as you reach the port at playa del Carmen (there's no parking here you will get a parking spot 10 minutes walking distance before coming to the port search on google maps and you will find directions while you're there the parking costed us $10 USD for all day) After scanning your tickets you can go upstairs to the ferry station it's highly advisable to reach 30-40 minutes prior to your departure time. The ferry has restrooms, a bar (not complimentary), and first class and premium class seats. The premium class is second floor uncovered with ocean views and first class is first floor covered and air conditioned. The service was entertaining there was a guy who was playing good music while we were on the ride! And the crew or staff waves you goodbye when you leave for your next stop!

Heading to Cozumel for a day trip, so decided on going by ferry to get us to the island then on to a private vessel for exploration. Being a catamaran hull I really thought we would hit a higher cruising speed, as the seas are a bit choppy and the additional speed would help to stabilize the journey. Anyhow a 45min jump across to the island in an air conditioned cabin.

We rode the Ultramar Ferry from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen for a tour with Cancun Adventures. The ferry had luxury seating, a bar and seating both in the sun and shade. They also had bathrooms on the ferry.

My mom and I took this from Cozumel to Playa del Carmen. Go directly to the WinJet desk or purchase them online. In Cozumel you enter in the ground level, go through security sen up the escalato a. They theb scan your pass and you can board immediately. When you board the boat you have an option of inside or outside. We opted for outside right in front of the on board entertainment.. The onboard entertainment was absolutely wonderful and a welcome distraction during the journey. The staff was also very nice. This experience was markedly better than our experience in Winjet (see review) and we will take Ultramar from now on. To get from the port to our hotel, we had to take a taxi for approximately $8 one way. You do have to navigate through the mall to arrive at the tax stand. If you want to get to your destination in style, I'd say this is the best option.

One of 2 ferry companies that operate ferries between Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. The ticket purchasing process was easy, boarding was pedantic and took a long time, and the crossing itself was about 30 minutes pending weather conditions. The only issue was that they do not offer advanced warning when they change (read cancel) scheduled runs. There was a singer/guitarist on board who entertained us during the journey. The Winjet company will NOT honor a return ticket from Ultramar and vice versa.

From the cruise ship yout you start off with a short walk from the boat along the pier to the Ultramar ferry. There are guards and dogs checking you out to make sure you are not bringing anything bad into the port. You let them know what excursion and they tell you which ferry to hop on. It is about a 30-35 minute ride from Cozumel once you get started, they go about 20 knots, pretty smooth sailing a few bumps here and there. There are TVs with music videos and other things playing and they offer drinks and snacks for purchase. The ride was smooth that day and with the TV going it did not seem to be 30 minutes long.

We used this ferry system to travel from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel during our "Excursion Travel" arrangement to the Atlantis Submarine ride. It was raining and the water a bit choppy, but still a pretty smooth ride all the way there and during the return ride back. The seats were comfortable enough to relax in. They also have a refreshment stand with snacks, drinks and even cocktails! Flat screen TV's are displayed so you can get up to the minute weather reports, destination times, and safety information. On our journey back to Playa del Carmen, we were lucky enough to get on their newest and more modern ferry boats! It was beautifully designed and more luxurious then expected! But I suspect that since it wasn't very full, we just happened to wander into the first class section. They didn't kick us out, so it turned out to be an even nicer ride all the way back! I enjoyed using the Ultramar ferries, which seem to be one of the more popular water crossing transportation companies of the Cancun area. The employees have always been helpful and efficient in getting us to the places we wanted to visit! Taking the ferry somewhere is a MUST to really enjoy the local flavors of the areas!

Excellent service, both in transport and luggage handling. I'm not sure about the other ferry service since these guys are such good salespeople. What I can tell you is that this one is comfy and relatively quick from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel -- and back. We bought the "first class" tickets, although I don't think that's necessary. (I think it only lets you skip the line a little.) On the way over, we were on an older boat and sat outside. On the way back (see photos) it was more modern and comfortable. On both trips, the crew handled our slew of luggage with care. The old boat is a 2-star experience. The new boat is around 4 stars ... hence my three stars for the rating. We'll use this company again, for sure.

Top deck seating, feeling the sea breeze on a very humid day.

Followed the advise of our hotel to buy a round trip ticket day of. We were advised that some will take advantage of people needing a return ticket and gouge the price. This was one of only two ferry lines operating during our stay in Playa. We tried this one day and Winjet another day. This one has a top level with seats which feels great when the ferry is in motion. I preferred Ultramar to winjet. This one has individual seats which were comfier than Winjet's bench seats.

Ben there done that! If I could have stayed on Cozumel I would have... water was rough and I got sick. They do pass out barf bags! Didn't have to use it, but have to admit I has pretty sure I was going to!. They told us it would be a 30 min ride. One way took 45 and the way back was almost a hour. Don't know if the rough sea had something to do with it, or if the 30 min time quote was just "Mexican Time"! Cozumel was great but not going back by boat!

Was able to get a First Class ticket at 0950 for the 1000 PDC to Cozumel ferry amazingly. Was told I would have Priority boarding, DIDN'T happen. A total CF leaving. No clear signs on anything. Seemed to be completely oversold, so much that regular passengers were allowed to sit in First class. Different story on the 1300 return to PDC. A CLEARLY designated First Class line and Priority boarding. First class seating was about 1/4 the size of the first leg. Only 6 First class riders on the return.

Ultramar should be specific on their times like winjet

Our tour guide rushed us to the port to make it on the 3:45 ferry back across to Cozumel. We made it on time and boarded, but then we just sat there. Our excursion was supposed to be back in Cozumel by 4:30. We didn't start moving towards Cozumel until 4:22. Lots of people were getting seasick, but that's not really the fault of the company, if you get seasick you probably shouldn't be on a ferry or any other boat. Ferry did not make it to Cozumel until 5:05. By the time we got off and through security, it was almost 5:30. Not cool when we were originally supposed to be back with enough time to get ready for our 5 pm dinner reservations.

An Unforgettable Tour Thanks to Rod and Limbert! I was lucky to experience a truly unique custom tour organized by Rod, the owner, and Limbert, our tour guide. From the very beginning, the service was impeccable--warm, personalized, and incredibly thoughtful. Limbert wasn't just a guide; he felt like a true friend welcoming us into his home. His knowledge of Mayan culture is outstanding, and visiting the ruins with him felt like traveling back in time--an educational and fascinating experience we wouldn't have had with anyone else. Swimming with the turtles was also absolutely out of this world. Limbert made sure everything was safe, smooth, and above all, magical. He also took us to amazing restaurants with authentic Mexican cuisine, far from the tourist traps and full of local flavor. Rio Secreto was an amazing experience!…read more I went to Cancun for a girls' trip, and honestly, I was very nervous because I didn't know what to expect. I tend to get anxious about new experiences, but I always try to push myself--knowing I'll be happy I did afterward. When you arrive, check-in takes place in a hidden, lush area with benches. A short video plays so you can get an idea of what Rio Secreto is all about. After that, you check in, sign your waivers, and meet your guide for the day. We totally lucked out--our guide, George, was incredible! The guide makes all the difference. George was full of life, personality, and knowledge. He truly immersed us in the caves and shared so much about Mayan culture. I can't say enough nice things about him! Your guide then takes you by van to the Rio Secreto caves, about a 15-minute drive on an unpaved, natural, and bumpy road. I don't get carsick, but if you're prone to it, you may want to take something beforehand. The ride itself is scenic and surrounded by lush greenery. Once you arrive, you'll find lockers, showers, bathrooms, and seating areas. Be prepared to remove all jewelry, as it's not allowed in the caves--the water must remain pure. You'll take a quick shower before putting on your wetsuit and water shoes (they provide them, or you can bring your own). You'll also wear a helmet with a light. The facility is extremely clean and well-maintained. I was genuinely impressed by how often they sanitized the equipment, floors, and bathrooms. Once you're geared up, you take about a 10-minute walk to the caves. Before entering, you'll participate in a beautiful Mayan ceremony meant to cleanse your spirit--and take a quick group photo. Important tip: You cannot bring your cell phone! Let it go and just enjoy the moment. A photographer will take pictures throughout the tour, and trust me, it's worth it. Walking and swimming through the caves while listening to George share stories about the Mayans, the legends, and the discovery of Rio Secreto was truly magical. The water is cool at first, but you get used to it quickly. Floating through the crystal-clear water surrounded by stunning cave formations took my breath away. After the tour, you're treated to a delicious meal--including handmade tortillas! An amazing day and an unforgettable experience. Highly recommend Rio Secreto!

It was pouring rain when we arrived, after meeting the driver, we all ran to the car. For my first trip to Mexico, this was a bit of a frightening experience. As we were waiting to check in and sitting with our guest services rep, the driver found us in the lobby and I told him we paid for this already and luckily had printed out my confirmation. He took a picture and sent it to his boss. This experience made me worried that they were not going to show up to drop us at the airport since we had booked round trip transportation. Unlike when we were arriving to Cancun, when we received confirmations about our upcoming transfer for departure we didn't receive one. I reached out the day before to make sure they would show and that they knew which lobby to get us from. It was the last flight of the day. Our driver was also coughing quite a bit, and I regretted not putting on my mask like I should have because after we got out I felt sick the rest of the weekend.
