My favorite excursion in Cancun. This is a must do while in Cancun area. We were picked up from our hotel and had an amazing day in the cave plus lunch plus a visit to Tulum. Our guide Jorge was the best. He was super fun and very knowledgeable. Inside the cave is super cool. The water is cool and refreshing. I chose to not use the wetsuit and so glad because the water felt amazing. The water is crystal clear and the inside of the cave is so beautiful. Would definitely do again.

Lunch buffet, the shredded meat was the best part.

I wanted to try some activities other than just the resort and the beach. So I booked this trip through my hotel concierge in the front lobby. The drive from Isla Mujeres to the location was about 1.5 hours in a crowded van. Then when you got there they divided you up in to groups depending on your primary language. Then you had another 15 -20 minute drive in a van over rough bumpy roads that they described as a "Mayan massage". Then you picked up water shoes and a wet suit that was included in the ticket price. I would advise you bring your own water shoes as the ones I was given had holes in the toes and rocks got in. The actual underground portion was very dark with only your head lamp to see by. The pictures they take are the only time you see the cave lit up like that. The walk/hike felt very unsafe with several sudden drop offs and slippery areas that was passed down verbally down the line of people. I would recommend all ages taking the walking stick offered at the beginning. I did not have one and wished I did. The lunch at the end was in a little buffet restaurant and was just ok. Overall my curiosity was satisfied but it was too rough and dirty to recommend or do again.

Proof that the booking site said transportation was provided when Rio Secreto had the nerve to say I was mistaken.

THIS DISHONEST COMPANY IS RUN BY CROOKS AND LIARS! They advertise false information on these travel sites to get clients to book their tours and disappear after they have collected your money. I purchased tickets for the Cancun/Playa del Carmen Rio Secreto tour via GetYourGuide.com. We selected this tour because it stated on the website that pick up would be available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday in the Costa Mujeres area only. We were staying in the Costa Mujeres area, and our tour was on Friday so we thought everything would be okay. We contacted Rio Secreto right after we booked the tour to arrange pick up. That is when they told us they would not be able to pick us up, and they were not even doing pick ups close to the area. They didn't offer us any alternative and when we requested a refund due the incorrect information advertised, told us he was not able to offer a refund without any explanation and ghosted us. Because of the lack of transportation, we weren't able to go on the tour and felt very scammed. After several emails, they continued with the scam and replied that they would not offer a refund and turned it around on me as if I booked the wrong tour. This is the worst experience I have had with any company.

This was the best thing we did in the trip. Our excursion included seeing Tulum then visiting Rio Secreto. It was the perfect temperature and I highly recommend picking up a walking stick for the cenote. The cochinita pibil was the best on this vacation. It was so tender! Definitely give it a try. Our guide and photographer were both fantastic.

Such a once in a lifetime experience to hike, explore, and swim through one of the oldest (millions of years old) cave systems in the Mayan Riviera. Mesmerized by the crystal clear blue fresh water, stalactites, stalagmites, & myriad of geological formations. LOVE LOVE LOVE!!!

To say this was spectacular is an understatement! I HIGHLY recommend this tour! I was so afraid it'd be too cold, too buggy, too something...it was perfect! Ana the tour guide was hilarious and so attentive to guests, guests were fantastic, the tour was beautiful and educational. I hope you'll give this a try! I did the Rui Secreto + Mayan Ruins tour and honestly would have been just as content with just Riu Secreto. The Ruins made for a very long, hot day. Lunch after RiU Secreto was quite the treat too! I never knew cactus was so tart! SO good, and the lime soup was SO good! As a lime lover, I hope I can recreate this at home! I took my own wet suit and layered on one of their as recommended, and temperature was just perfect one you get in. A little nippy at first but it quickly dissipated and being in water actually felt better than when out. I do recommend taking your med. for motion sickness if needed as the ride in and out of the area is a bit bumpy.

Rio Secreto is located in Playa Del Carmen. If you book through their website they have a ton of different options that include transportation from hotel, etc. We booked the basic tour with transportation from Cancun for $109. Our tour guide was Gustavo and he was nothing short of AMAZING. He took care of us and made sure we had a great but safe trip through the mayan caves! The mayan caves are 65 feet underground and over 25 miles long. The general tour was about 2 hours under ground and was grueling but amazing at the same time. We were required to do a mayan ritual before which was basically asking for safety and no injury within the cave-- not going to lie made me nervous and was thinking what are we getting ourselves into?! Plenty of areas that are rocky and will have you second guessing yourself but with mind over matter then anything is possible! Tip: wear your bathing suit upon arrival! They will provide water shoes and life jackets. This activity can be done with non- swimmers just let your tour guide know and they will take care of you! Also be prepared to hop into a cold shower before entering the caves to prepare you for the cold water. Otherwise, enjoy! Do not recommend this activity if you are not fit for hiking or afraid of enclosed spaces.

Thankfully it was only about 20 minutes from our hotel so it didn't take half a day just to get there. In total the whole experience was under four hours. There were 4 other people in our group we didn't know, staying in hotels much farther away. Lots of waiting around when you get there. There are free lockers to store your things and clean restroom and changing facilities. If you have an underwater camera pouch, bring it. It's the only way you're allowed to have a phone on the ATVs (around your neck) and you can use it both above and under water at the cenote. It was our first time doing ATV's and didn't know what to expect. I had no interest in driving one myself so I decided to ride as a passenger with my bf. This was the worst decision EVER! Granted I am a small person and struggled to get both of my feet firmly planted, so I basically held onto the back handlebars for dear life while I was thrown around like a ragdoll. My back was literally bruised from hitting the seat with the abrupt motions. I felt like I had whiplash and at one point the plastic shield on my helmet came off because my head crashed into my bf's helmet. We would have enjoyed it more if the speed was higher and more in the jungle but you're basically on a narrow trail with lots of bumps and bottoming out constantly. The ride was advertised as 45 minutes but was less than 40. I did like how there's a guide with you the entire time both at the front of the pack and back. On the flip side, it also made it so that you couldn't necessarily go the speed that you wanted. After that harrowing experience we were offered a buffet lunch (nothing special but nice that it was free) and then taken to the nearby cenote. That was really the highlight of the experience. You do have to rinse off all of your sunscreen (even those that are reef safe) in a cold shower before you enter... not sure how effective this was because most people did a half assed job. I liked that you were provided a life jacket so you could also just float without having to worry about supporting yourself. The guide was very knowledgeable. And the water was very clear. I've been to caves before but none that were under water. Very cool! Be prepared for many money grabs, but that's Mexico. We were basically bullied into buying the additional insurance, felt like a huge scam. But ultimately it was $25 for the two of us and because of the manmade holes on the course I can see how an ATV can get damaged even if you drive responsibly. We thought they would be jerks at the end about every little scratch but there was barely an inspection. They also take many pictures of you throughout the experience which you are not obligated to buy. We even declined being photographed in the first place. If you have your camera pouch you can take pictures of yourself everywhere you go.

Of course we were the fastest group! Next was the zipline. I did 7! My watch said 34 flights of stairs. Better not be afraid of heights. Lunch was the typical Mexican fair. Nicely done. A cenote snorkel, complete with bat cave and a ride to Tulum with tour guide. Excellent. It was a full day. Hats off to Isaac at Atv/zipline/cenote place. Oh did II mention tequila tasting. Ya that too at Tulum market. 6 checks on my bucket list

As an English speaker, I'm not sure that the guided tour was worth it as the Spanish portion and explanations were long and the English versions were condensed (my bf understood both and said we got shortened versions). Most of what we got we already knew from googling. However, the all inclusive tour included food - which might be more worth it finances wise. The tour guide will walk and talk and show you each cenote, swim together in cenote 5 (you can't have access here as a self guide) for exactly 25 minutes. Then once the tour is done you're free to explore in your own. That lasts about 1.5 hours. We then had lunch - choice of pork chun, fish fillet or fish tacos. On the menu it ranges from 130 to 200 pesos a dish already. But included in tour, we got chips and salsa, fruit water (pineapple this time), our meal, and ice cream! After, we went back to swim and check out the spots really quick. Truly, it was pretty quiet and for the most part we had it to ourselves. 3 hours is plenty of time

We had used hotel credits to basically pay for the trip. As the only thing I actually paid for was the Mexican taxes. Here's a few highlights: ~ Started our day early around 7am, as the tour groups from several hotels gathered the tourists. ~ As the tour began, our guides introduced themselves as Walter and Fernando. Both bilingual and really nice guys. ~ Breakfast consisted of two types of tamales and a traditional balché Mayan drink. ~ On our way to Chichen Itza, Fernando and Walter referenced many historical facts about the Maya people and how they live today. They passed around artifacts as well. ~ We visited their local gift shop that they specifically support. And they do take credit card, even though I only carried cash. ~ Watched a video in a dome theater, about the Mayan culture and how it all began. ~ In the heat, Walter showed us all around the Chichen Itza grounds. Simply amazing! ~ For lunch we all met up at The Lodge at Chichen Itza (beautiful hotel btw). It was a buffet filled with freshly made tacos and other time-honored traditional dishes. A bit salty for me though. ~ After that, we trucked along to the cenote. Now this was probably my favorite highlight of my entire trip. To swim and relax in a natural pool of fresh water was just exhilarating! I loved seeing it, taking pics of it, and just disconnecting from that thing called "work". ~ On our way back, our final stop, we went to the town of Valladolid. I enjoyed it, and still would recommend going with these guys.
