The explanation felt questionable at the time, but I accepted it. However, shortly after, my Caucasian friend went into the salon and was immediately offered an appointment without any mention of the same issue. This stark difference in treatment raised serious concerns for me about how customers are being treated based on race. I have also since learned that another woman of color reportedly experienced a very similar situation, which adds to my concern that this may not have been an isolated incident. Based on what I personally experienced and observed, I felt there was unequal and unfair treatment. I would advise others--especially women of color--to proceed with caution when considering this business.

Once I got home and had my own glasses on, I saw how shoddy the job was. I had nail polish all over my toes and missing on some parts of the nails. I did a gel manicure and the coats are inconsistent, don't cover the whole nail (on several nails but most severely the thumbs), and in other cases the cuticles were also covered with polish. It looked like that time I let my friend's 8 year-old daughter paint my nails around a campfire. I spent two hours and $73 (plus a generous tip before I could see the damage) for this experience. I didn't call this morning to complain mostly because I don't have the time to spare to redo the paint jobs. It's unfortunate that I will not be returning, as they are close by and friendly.

I went in to Crush Nails in Shrewsbury for a Dazzle Dry pedicure as a last resort last week because…read moreall other spa appointments elsewhere were booked for the time frame I needed. I say last resort because, I had visted Crush Nails several times before when it first opened a few years ago (2022) and stopped going because of inexperienced aestheticians who filed my nails down too far; however, everyone then under the original owner was very welcoming and the spa was beautiful inside, very clean and zen like with herbal teas offered, soaps, jewelry, clothing, etc. They were attentive to making the client feel special and a bit pampered. I really liked the vibe and mindset, but not the inexperienced services (3-4) / raw skin on the tops of my toes from filing down too far. This last visit (June 30, 2025), once I walked in, I knew something was further off as the vibe has totally changed: no tea, more cluttered and disorganized throughout the salon, very few clients (1 aside from myself), a chipped/dirty nail sample board, and lack of communication between client and nail tech. When I chose the color/s I wanted for a dazzle dry pedicure, I was told they didn't have those colors... A manager who had significantly better communication skills came over and tried her best to accommodate my color selection, but the colors just weren't there. At that point, I just wanted to leave and settled for a neutral color that I didn't really like as my 1 hr. appointment had turned into 1 hr 40 minutes and the other issues. (Again, all I had for a service was a standard pedicure w/ Dazzle Dry.) I would also agree with the other reviewers that the chairs were quite uncomfortable. Finally, the nail tech did a great job on the nail prep and massage; however, the application of the polish was not acceptable. (See photos below)

I have been coming here for a couple of years, and while the staff are friendly -the service is very inconsistent. I am constantly being taken late (15-30 minutes or more) and with different technicians than I book. I feel as though I'm a walk-in every time. If you're not on a schedule whatsoever, and have no preference for who does your service, then this is the place for you. The woman next to me was taken 45 minutes late for her appointment. I agree with what others say in that they are way overbooked, which definitely contributes the issues. Today was my last appointment with them.

Yesterday I went in for a mani and pedi. I asked for a Lincoln Park After Dark dip on my hands. The manicurist was struggling with the powder not drying, and kept having to redo it. I asked her several times if I should pick another color and she said no each time. By the end, my nails still had uneven spots so she said not to worry she was going to put gel on it. She actually proceeded to put gel polish and top coat on top of my nails with the powder on them. I really didn't want gel on my hands but I didn't complain because I had sat there for so long. Last evening, I saw that most of my nails had large smudges on them. I emailed the salon and when I never got a reply, I went in this morning to have them repaired. I spoke to the owner and said I thought I just needed a new color because there was something not right with what I had got. She wanted to rewrap all of the smudged nails and I had no interest in doing the gel thing again- I don't want gel and I payed for a dip powder. I said I knew I didn't have an appt and might need to wait a bit or come back in a few- she actually had the gaul to ask me to come back on Friday. Today is Wednesday, New Year's Eve. I told her I could not wait til Friday and would need to go somewhere else to have it repaired. Well, she didn't seem to care at all so I left. Guess what? I will never be back and I won't be sending anyone to her place again.
