At my age to start taking Pilates was not what I was looking for with that being said the Instructor Kathy brought so much energy to a 6:30am class it was unbelievable! Well, after all these years of thinking this place is more for the opposite sex, I got an offer from my daughter to take an hour Warm Raja Deep Stretch Yoga class with her at Ellen's. Since I have been on a workout regiment in another gym, I realized how tight my muscles and ligaments have become and ironically my trainer recommended I take Yoga once a week anyways. I have never done any Yoga before of any kind but I will try anything and with the help of Christine, our Yoga instructor, pushing my position a step further than I thought I could accomplish, it made me realize my body can do just a little more than I thought, no different than my weight training experience I regularly do three times a week. Once she got us into position, she talked us through a relaxing hold on our stretches by talking us through it and directing our breathing. It made my first time a GREAT experience, because in the end, my body naturally feels a little more flexible and I feel a "good" kind of tired and relaxed. I did not realize Ellen's Ultimate Workout offered so much. What a large Spinning room with rows of spinning bikes, definitely much more high tech and advanced than what I have been used to. They do hour classes 2-3 times a day during the week, 2 on Saturday and 1 on Sunday, per the current schedule. The "Ultimate" workout area is very impressive where they do light and heavy "boot camp" style workouts. It is an amazing room, with cardio and weight machines that they use to maximize these workouts for those who want to do extreme conditioning. Ellen's offers quite a number of Pilate classes , in a separate Pilates room. They offer 5-9 classes a day, and 3-4 classes on Fridays-Sunday. They also offer Ballet Bar and even have a fitness program for baby's and toddlers. Although you can walk in or make a reservation for the classes, it is better to purchase the Packages where you pay in advance for 5, 10 or 20 classes and use them anytime you want to for Cycle, Yoga, Ultimate, and other "Studio Package" classes including Ballet Barre. The more classes you purchase in advance, the less it costs per class. There is a separate pricing structure for Pilates classes or Pilate 1 on 1 classes as well. Looks to me like Ellen has covered EVERYTHING here, and the instructors are very professional. How do I know this? Because my daughter and my wife have been going here for 12 years. It definitely made me feel better as I walked up to Ellen's that I saw men waiting outside or just finishing classes. I will definitely be back Saturday mornings for the Stretch Yoga because it helped me, and now thinking about trying their spinning classes on my off weight training days. A long overdue review for Ellen's. First, lets address the elephant on the table. Ellen's is expensive. However, when it comes down to it, Ellen's is not more any more expensive than another studio in the area offering quality exercise classes. Ellen's has 4 studios and offers a multitude of classes: Ultimate, Pilates, Spin, Ballet Barre, Hot Yoga, etc. Ellen is known for her Ultimate class which is a cardio and weights class. For those of you who go to Orange Theory, it is pretty much the same thing. Ellen actually created the Orange Theory class concept. Ultimate is not really for me. I don't really feel I need a class for treadmill work (they do rowing as well) and I get my strength training at Pilates. I do love the Pilates classes at Ellen's. I have taken all of the instructors and these ladies never seem to do the same exercise twice. It is never boring! One would not believe all of the contraptions including rings, band, balls, weights, etc. they will use with the Pilates reformer and what I call the "torture chair". All of the instructors are first rate As with any class, some instructors will suit different personalities more than others. If you live in West Broward, your first class is free. By the way, for those guys wondering if you should give it a try? Yes, there are plenty of men who go to Ellen's. They also offer a few kid's classes! However, as a working mom, Ellen's is not for my husband or kids. It is a place just for me. That Pilates room is like my sanctuary; where I can take an hour "off" and just concentrate on myself! read more

This review is specifically for the Ms. Sue Mommy & Me classes. I cannot rave enough about Ms. Sue's classes. I stumbled across Ms. Sue's incredible M&M classes over the summer when some of my mommy friends invited me to join them for a series of free music sessions for LO's. Being free, this class was PACKED, but it did not take away from the realization that these were the best M&M classes that I had ever been to. Ms. Sue was so warm and welcoming. The class that I attended was meant for younger babies, but since half of the class was comprised of my Mommy friends and my cousin, I decided to stay until the summer was over. Even though the class was intended for younger ones, my LO still loved every minute of it especially the egg shakers. At the end of the summer, Ms. Sue let me know that she would be at EUW during the year. After settling into the new school year, I looked up Ms. Sue and signed up! Ms. Sue offers some weekdays and Saturday morning, so if you are a mamma looking for something to do with your LO 3 -12 mo. during the day, this is definitely the place to go. Ms. Sue is absolutely amazing and has been in early education for over a decade. There are many different manipulatives that Ms. Sue incorporates in each of her sessions that keep young ones engaged every week - with just enough repetition that they feel a sense of routine. One added benefit of being in a fitness location is that there are trampolines for the LO's to jump on as well as various sizes exercise balls for them to safely practice kicking, throwing, or just playing around. There is enough free time and circle time that keeps you and the LO moving the entire time. It isn't just that Ms. Sue is so fantastic, but the parents that follow Ms. Sue are such great people, friendly, nice and welcoming, that it makes the sessions enjoyable not just for baby, but for the adults as well. Yes, of course when going to Mommy and Me it is about engaging your child in stimulating activities and socialization - but all of that can be very taxing if you go to sessions where the adults that go aren't friendly. Sure your kid leaves happy, but you don't. And I have done that over and over trying out different places, and definitely these parents are the nicest that I have ever met, and so are their children. I love Ellen's. In general it is a fitness studio with several different work out rooms. One room is for spinning, another for pilates, another one for the ultimate fitness, and another room for yoga and misc classes. You can reserve their classes on line at their website http://www.ellensultimateworkout.com/ or you can use the mindbody app which is my preferred choice. First the spinning room has bikes stacked pretty close to each other, so they are definitely maximizing space. I like the fact that there are hooks on the back of the wall so that you can hang your bag. The bikes are all genuine Johnny G spinning bikes with a tachometer on them. The spinning room has a strobe light and other lighing which will give you a great vibe when the music is on point. In addition, it has a screen if you would like to show video to go with the music. Well, let's say all instructors are not alike as anywhere. Some are good, some need improvement, but my favorite is Susan Andreoni. Her class is just fun. She is superb at providing instruction, reminding you of where your goal is and motivating to step it up for 30 seconds or one minute. More so, her class is just fun! She varies the music for all types and you will almost feel like you are at a party- but no - it's workout!! I honestly look forward to her class- I feel so pumped when I am done and have had the best workout. Susan A I would give 5 stars, but the bikes are so close together and some of the other instructors have room for improvement ( although I know to each their own)...so I will give 3.5 stars here. I have not taken a pilates class yet here but I will soon and will share more when I do. However, the room is full of pilates equipment and as you can see, the reviews on it are great. Then you have the ultimate room. This room has lots of treadmills, rowers, weights, benches, balls, etc. Get the picture? Ellen's was doing Orange Theory before it was Orange Theory. This is what they do, mix up cardio and strength training for 60 minutes and push you to the core with great coaching! You will definitely push yourself with the motiviating coach to where you can while everyone is on different levels. I have taken several classes here with Vinny and he is good at explaining and continuing to try to push yourself. I also like the fact that he high fives everyone and celebrates their effort when they leave. 5 stars Next you have the yoga room. They have heated yoga and vinyasa. So vinyasa is a flow with many poses and in one particular class the instructor changes poses so fast you can't keep up. Now while one can say maybe it is just me, but I have been in her class a few times and when I look around the room, if two people are following it is amazing. So I think she needs to pay attention more to her audience and their form. The classes are overall good, but I can't say that I have had one that is amazing yet. Actually I did have one instructor that was on point, but the class went over 15 minutes past schedule so it lost points for me as I had something to do after, and I hate feeling rude and walking out! So the instructors while passionate about their practice, should be conscious of people's time. 2.5 stars Last but not least, my favorite yet most painful class is Ballet Barre with Jen Mirk. Jen teaches several classes and they are all packed. She is really amazing. Motivating encouraging, pushes you to a hilt. Her instruction is stellar she will be sure to correct form and push you to limits you didn't know. I have a whole new respect for ballerina. I come out of that class as sweaty as hot yoga! She definitely earns 5 stars for her classes and she starts and ends on time! She wants you to get your money's worth ;-) Now Ellen's is not cheap, but you have class variety ( many more which I did not review) with mostly top notch instructors who really coach and guide you as would a trainer. Membership starts at $99 for 8 classes or you can pay per class or buy packages. Honestly, for the variety and the instructors which are great- the bang for the buck is pretty great. I would highly recommend them!!! I pay for Ellen's on top of my gym membership because usually classes at the gym are just blah...meh...so you get what you pay for. First class is always free, so I would encourage you to give them a try!!! Overall, the facility is kept very clean. The location is in Davie right off of University slightly South of Griffin. I drive all the way from Sunrise as I love their facility and instructors that much. I just hop on the turnpike to Griffin and head West on over there! My review is long overdue. I come here only for ballet bar with Jen. Today my daughter who is in town from New York wanted to do Jen's ballet bar class. She's a big fan of Jen's and has been going here for years. This class is so killer you are going to feel it for days! The studio offer pilates, hot yoga, P3 cycle, ultimate workout, ballet bar, fit baby/toddler and stretch yoga. So you see there's something for everyone. The instructors are all top notch. The studio is clean and has showers. They have a huge following so book ahead. They offer many packages and that's the way to go. I use to take a hip hope class here but they no longer offer it. This place is a hidden gem. The energy is great from the moment you walk in the door and are greeted by the front desk staff to the various instructors. I have been going here steadily for the last 5 months and tried the cycling and ultimate workout classes (which are excellent) but my favorite by far is their reformer Pilates. Their classes have really wonderful, skilled instructors who provide concise directions and create a great atmosphere. The cost per class is the cheapest you'll get in broward or dade county for a FULL Pilates set up (this isn't your cheap mat Pilates we're talking about here, this is like the full range of equipment). The Pilates workouts are full body - I've been to others where there is no upper body work included but that's not the case here. Keep in mind that this isn't some big corporate chain - you'll get a much more personal touch here and that includes trainers with their own personalities and methods (you can get the drill sergeant type or the warm-fuzzy type) - try a few different classes with a few different types of instructors to get an idea of what instructor you like to work with (that being said I have several that are awesome and I frequently go to). Bottom line - this place is excellent and you should give it a try. I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

The worst customer service !!! They are scammers. I cancelled my membership and for 8 Months they were charging the credit card. When my husband informed me and I told them after multiple back and fourths they said I only verbally cancelled and it had to be written. I am out over 800 dollars plus a package of classes. I started going to Ellen's approximately 10 years ago. Life happens and I moved down south. There is new ownership and they decided not to allow me to keep my classes so I ended up losing 7 studio and 5 Pilates classes. I don't live nearby so it's a shame because I did enjoy going when I could to get out of my routine. They do have amazing instructors but I was disappointed to lose the 12 classes I purchased and decided not to purchase anymore. Orange Theory tried doing this and they changed their policy back as they realized it was bad for their business. I hope in time Ellen's will change this and not lose the relationships Ellen worked so hard to get. I also read a review where someone had cancelled their membership but they continued to charge her and then refused to credit back a few months. Luckily, my mom lives close by so I am able to visit when I am in the area. Some of the best classes are as follows: Hot Yoga with Christine; Hot Yoga/Pilates with Kym; Any Class with Jen Mirk; Ultimate with Vinny, Casey, or Bea; Spinning with Sue; Pilates (reformer) with Octavia. If you can get into Ellen Latham's spinning class, you'll feel like you've just completed an entire motivational speaking convention in one hour. Honestly, each instructor will push you and motivate you in their own way... I've never left Ellen's studio disappointed. If you sign up for a class in advance and do not cancel 24 hours prior, you'll "lose" your class. I love that Ellen's has this policy! When I first started, I never signed up in advance out of fear that I wouldn't make the class. Eventually, I realized that this is THE BEST way to get me to my workout and feeling amazing for days afterward! I've wanted to bail so many times after work or even at 5:30 am but was constantly motivated to go. Ellen's offers one complimentary missed class for your convenience. The customer service and quality of the studio is undeniably the best I've ever experienced. People remember your name, greet you when you come in, and work hard to establish a truly genuine experience at Ellen's Ultimate Workout. I cannot say enough positive things about Ellens! I first started taking spinning classes at Ellen's a few years ago. All I can say is you don't know what you are missing until it's gone! I moved to Miami a year and a half ago and was forced to take LA fitness spinning classes. I missed the great instructors and friendly atmosphere of Ellen's. Casey happens to be my favorite spinning instructor and taking her classes is more fun than anything (not saying it's not hard though) She plays great music and keeps you motivated! An hour goes by and you may be sweating profusely and out of breath but DAMN DO YOU FEEL GOOD! Now that I am back in Broward county I will be there at least 3 times a week! I love Ellen's Ultimate Workout! Exactly the gym I was looking for, especially for the Pilates classes. I attended my first class today and thoroughly enjoyed it. The instructor was a aware it was my first time attending and she gave me guidance throughout the whole class when needed. (Unlike another gym I checked out a few months ago which made me intimidated to ever go back). I took the beginners class a little wary that it would be too easy and it wasn't. (About a year ago I checked out a different gym and felt like the beginners Pilates class was too easy, but as a new member it was required to stay in the beginners class during the 5 day trial). Needless to say I found my gym and signed up for the Ultimate membership. I'm looking forward to my next Pilates class as well as trying out the other classes that are offered. After taking a 7 month hiatus, I'm back and with a vengence. To my surprise, they've added new instructors (all of which are qualified) and even a new class called Ballet Barre. This Ballet Barre class, let me tell you. It is...nothing short of amazing. If you ever want to be sore in places that you didn't know existed or had forgotten about, this class would do it! Put it this way, I was left stumbling out of the class and waking up at 3:30am the next morning from pure muscle fatigue. OH YEAH! Here's the low down - it's a new workout that is highly recommended, very popular and a must try! It uses the ballet barre as well as weights and balls. This is the class for pure body sculpting - and even though your heart rate is up, stick to Ultimate or Spinning for the cardio. This is mostly core work..and let's not under estimate the "work" for this class. It is HARD but very rewarding. I'm glad I'm back - I just wished they offered more early morning and late evening classes (for the working/school attending people) and/or were closer to the Aventura area. Otherwise, my loyalty for this gym remains even though I'm no where near as in shape as some of the other hardcore clientele. read more
