My wife and I dropped by Ultimate Canine (UC) to visit, Maverick, a Black English Labrador that they are training to be a service dog for me, who will be coming home in November. Dogs are being walked, going through training exercises, resting, being groomed, praised, corrected, it's a bit like watching a very small bee hive in slow motion. We met Maverick and Julie Case in the "Barn" which contain a training area, beds, a grooming area, portable and fixed kennels, toys, and more, it's a lot to take in in a short amount to time. We spent about 1-1/2 hours with Maverick and Julie along with a small amount of time with another woman (sorry, I don't remember your name, but I do recall your suggestion to separate potty time from play/exercise during a rest stop during a road trip). We talked about Maverick's training and our future with him, played ball, practiced recall (Maverick come), sit, and place (rest where I'm pointing to), I also walking with him in heel (I only stepped on him once). Julie is intensely focused on the training and care of the dogs in her charge, it was a bit off-putting for someone who suffers from agoraphobia and high anxiety. Prior to meeting Julie in person, I'd had at least two phone conversations with her, one where she told me UC had a candidate match and then the next day, a Sunday, confirming that Maverick had been paired with me and would be graduating in early November. During those calls she was very patient, understanding and compassionate, finally being paired was an overwhelming experience for me and Julie was very supportive. I've traded e-mails and a couple of other phone calls with other people at UC and they've all been kind, professional and understanding. The folks at UC, Julie, Jackie, Annie, Michelle, etc. are all wonderful.

Our Goldendoodle (Winston) completed a 4 week stay and train with Ultimate Canine with Carissa Abney. Both Winston and my wife and I are so happy after the experience. He learned all basic manners and how to walk off leash with his new ecollar. We could not be more happy with the results and are so grateful to have found such a wonderful trainer. Carissa has proven to be the perfect trainer - firm but kind with Winston and his humans (we required just as much training as he did!) If you do the stay and train your pet does receive the best care (vet visits, training, lodging, and socialization). Walking into their facility with 20 pets is shockingly quiet; however, all pets are trained and are kept to their best manners during their stay. This has led to a much less stressful time away for Winston and he comes home happy. Only 5 STARS for Ultimate Canine and 4 PAWS UP as well.

This PetSmart always seems to be well-stocked on food, treats, and supplies. It's fun to browse the toy aisles, even though my dog definitely doesn't need more toys. Occasionally I can't resist when I find something new or unique. The employees are always super friendly, and it is easy to find someone if you have questions or need assistance. The grooming department has convenient hours and excellent groomers. I actually started coming to this location after following our groomer here from her former location.

My dogs are cocker spaniels - known for chronic ear infections. I have her ears treated constantly for this and never had a groomer turn us away before for this, or any other reason. I should note that the reason we tried PetSmart for grooming is because our regular grooming service was experiencing some staffing issues. Well we took our dogs home and I called the manager at PetSmart to complain about this situation. He agreed that an attempt should have been made to groom the cocker spaniel with the matted ears, and that the ear infection on the other dog may have been a judgement call, but he did offer for us to bring our dogs back to have them groomed at a 50% discount. I agreed and we scheduled that for a couple of weeks later. During those two weeks, we trimmed the matted ears on our own (did not take long) and continued treating the ear infection on the other dog. When we returned for our second appointment, the groomer accepted the dogs and said it would take about three to four hours (understandable). I had not even made it home from dropping the dogs off when I got a call that the dogs were ready to go home, and that they only partially groomed them both. They partially shaved one cocker spaniel but didn't finish her face and left three paws untouched. They told us "The one paw is all that she would let us do." She looks incredibly goofy. The other cocker spaniel (which we had previously trimmed the matted ears ourselves) looks even goofier. They said he has matting under his arms that they can't take care of. Took getting him hime I so find some very MINOR matting. It is nothing I can't cut out with a pair of scissors in about two minutes! Maybe had they groomed him the first time, that matting would not have been an issue. Now, keep in mind they only worked on my dogs for a half hour of what should have been a three to four hour session. They said nothing about him being matted in those areas during our first trip. Even so, isn't a groomer supposed to take care of such issues?! They went so far as to say that we need to take him to the vet to have the matting cut out. We have been dog owners all our lives and have NEVER been turned away by ANY groomer in the past for ANY reason! I called our vet and our regular groomer who both agree that this is just laziness on the part of PetsMart's grooming service. I have now scheduled them for grooming services with our regular groomer even though it will be a little while based on staffing issues. I will not name our regular groomer but they are very reputable in this area. They do a great job, and they shared with me that they are not surprised by our experience with PetSmart and that they have heard the same kinds of complaints from several others. Never again will we give this place a penny's worth of business. Stay away from this place and go somewhere else that actually cares about dogs and enjoys grooming them. This is pure laziness and incompetence.

The salesperson left us alone with the dog for nearly 30 minutes before we could get her attention to ask for information about the parents. During that time, the three employees on the floor spent more time walking around talking with each other than following up with customers on the floor. After playing with the dog for another 10-15 minutes, we decided to inquire about price. When we finally got the attention of a second sales associate, she rudely asked if we had ever been there before (what did that matter?) and asked who we had been working with. She told us that that person was "busy with a sale" and would be another five minutes. By this point, we had been in the store for a total of 75 minutes, the puppy had fallen asleep, and we said we could no longer wait. There was no explanation why neither she nor the other sales associates who were not busy could help us. The third associate then came over to take the puppy away, and when I told her, "You just lost a sale" due to the total disregard for us as qualified buyers, her response was a snarky "Have a good day." There were no apologies ... no acknowledgement of the indifferent treatment we received along with the total disrespect for our time. This was one of the worst customer service experiences I've had and I will not return to this Petland location.

Despite seeing this go down and my wife asking for the dog to be taken away, both employees working (Alyssa and Jacqueline I believe were their names) stood by and takes amongst themselves before doing anything to assist. When I approached Alyssa about why it took so long for someone to come and remove the dog there appeared to be no empathy for the situation. In regard to the dog biting my wife, I was told "well that's what happens when we get in a room with dogs". There was no apology or sympathy. She made it seem like it wasn't an issue that the dog bit someone or that her and the other employee took their sweet time to come help.

Back in 2008 I brought my German Shepard girl here for day care and boarding twice a week for quite awhile and it was great. They treated her well and ran a clean pleasant facility that the owners took pride in. On her interview day I brought her in so they could test her temperament and they gave me a great report card with her picture and feedback. I also took a tour and met the owners an middle age couple who were charming (Michelle & Stephen Alexander) I ran into the owners several times over the period that I was taking my dog there and they were great. So now that I was wanting to try out a few other places I thought why not. I filled out paper work online and a very nice personable man called me and advised me that I would have to fill out a paper application and send it back before I could schedule her interview. I did and he called me back and everything was great. I arrived at 7:00 am and he came right out and stood in a small fenced in area. I asked if I was supposed to bring her to him and he said yes. I asked him why the lobby was closed, and if it was due to covid and he said one of their owners has a rare form of blood cancer and they need to keep them away from people as much as possible. He took her back for the evaluation and came out later and told me that she did great. I checked on her a few times through out the day and she was safe, but mostly pacing the fence. In the morning there was one employee that was in the area with the dogs mostly pacing around using their cell phone or talking on there cell phone. The dogs take a rest from 11am-1pm and have lunch if their parents packed it for them. I found this information on the paperwork they hand out and on the website. I checked in on her again in the afternoon and saw that she again was pacing the fence and laying around again resting. During the day I thought this might be a good spot for my dog to visit and I purchased a ten pack of passes. Pick up is between 4-5:30pm and I arrived a little bit after 5:00pm. I called from the parking lot as directed and the phone was picked up, and I was hung up on. I called in again and said that I was there to pick up my dog and they said she did great and they would bring her out. I inquired about their schedule today and I was told they took a rest from 11am-1pm, and from 4pm-5:30pm. As I was checking in on them on the web cam today I asked if they went to rest at 3pm today instead of 4pm and I was told that the schedule varies depending on the temperature, staffing, etc. and was hung up on. A young lady came out and said she would be with me in a minute. I asked of she was the person I was talking to on the phone and she said yes. I asked her if the space was airconditioned and she replied yes, so I asked if it was a staffing issue to which she became visible irritated and said no it wasn't a staffing issue. She went back in and came out with another dog and handed me a piece of paper and told me the break times and that they vary were on the paperwork. Again in and out with another dog, and I said I read the paperwork and didn't see anything notation of other break times and if she could show it to me. She grabbed the paper from me folded it in half and walked away. I asked if I could speak to the manager, she said I am the manager, I asked if I could speak to the owner and she said she is the owner. That she has owned the business for 16 years. At that time I asked her if she was the owner with the rare blood cancer that the other employee mentioned and she said yes, and I said I'm so sorry that must be hard. From there she became incredible rude and started insulting me, trying to shame me (I was called disgusting, and many other thing I won't type in a review). She was becoming more and more belligerent as I stood calmly holding my cell phone so I had a witness to the situation. She told me that I was on video and I said great then we have proof I wasn't doing anything. I asked if she would cancel my next appointment and the ten day pass I just purchased today and she said she would and that this wasn't going to work out. She continued to verbally assault me, I told her God Bless you and got in my car and left. From reviewing the website Michelle Rohrer (Alexander) is the owner and her two children Lauren and Justin work there. I believe it was Lauren the owners daughter who was verbally accosting me because she didn't want to answer questions about their daily schedule. Needless to say, I won't be driving 15 minutes out of my way to take my dog to a business where I get hung up on multiple times, yelled at, and insulted. I would love to have a copy of the video to share with their franchise corporate office and would welcome the opportunity to speak with Michelle the business owner.
