I'm disappointed in the service and customer experience at this location. I came in for moisturizer and noticed a Prada fragrance promotion offering a free pouch with a $175+ purchase. I confirmed with an employee, who seemed to be looking at a paper packet behind the register for awhile, that they had the gift so I bought the perfume. At checkout, I had to decline three times to sign up for the credit card, which was uncomfortable. After leaving, I realized I had been given a cologne case instead. When I returned the next day, the cashier explained that's all they had left--despite my asking specifically about the pouch beforehand. It feels like I was misled just to secure a sale, which was not an insignificant amount of money on my end. I ended up doing a full return to go to the Naperville location. I've also noticed inconsistent store practices: one employee is quick to damage out fragrances if customers spray a non-tester bottle, yet testers like the Touchland fragrances have sat empty for over a week. Today I took my daughters to Ulta, Wheaton for the first time. An employee at the entrance was handing out bags to customers to fill with their potential purchases. She looked at us and walked away. Although now feeling unwelcomed, I wasn't going to let one bad employee ruin our mother-daughter outing. We then made our way to the nailpolishes. My daughters and I picked out several polishes when I hear someone loudly tell me that I'm not allowed to try on polishes at Ulta and demanded I tell her which I tried on. It took a second to realize the employee was talking to me. I told her that I looked at, not tried on the polish that I was holding. She then asked me if there were anymore that I tried on despite the fact that I had told her that I did not try on any polishes. She then looked at my youngest daughter and asked which polishes she had tried on. My daughter did not understand her, so I told her my daughter had not tried on any polishes. Before I could ask for her name, the employee was gone. My youngest daughter really wanted to purchase the polishes that we had picked out, so we checked out; however, my oldest daughter noticed the look of shock and sadness on my face. I know I am not a fancy person and maybe I do not fit the look of a typical Ulta shopper and/ or employee, but I just cannot believe how mean the employees were to us from the moment we walked in the door. And to loudly accuse me of trying on polishes in a crouded store and making my daughters and me feel embarrassed as well as unwelcomed was completely uncalled for. This review is specifically for the hair and makeup services I received. Emma C. did my makeup for a formal event. She was AMAZING! So sweet, listened to my concerns (I don't often wear foundation and was afraid of it being caked on), looked at my reference photos I had for some ideas, and was able to give me a gorgeous face of makeup! I would recommend her in a heartbeat. I was very impressed and the makeup lasted all night (applied at 1pm and event lasted until midnight with no issues!) CJ did my updo and it was fantastic as well. I had a few photos for ideas but basically said I wanted a softer updo with curls in a loose bun. She was quick, efficient, and my hair (that normally has issues holding a curl) stayed perfect all night. Overall, all the girls I encountered at the beauty/makeup/brow bar were are super nice and encouraging. I'm going to be returning for brow services. If you need makeup or hair done for a formal occasion that won't break the bank, I'd recommend these two at Ulta! read more

I don't know why an appointment was booked (that is at least a two hour appointment) when they only had an hour to do it and the person was coming from work to get to the appointment and when you're paying over $200 to get your hair done you would like to enjoy it without feeling rushed or sledgehammers going and drilling and sawdust (store renovation) and some thing that should've been a relaxing experience ends up not being so relaxing! In my opinion, there should've been a phone call made asking if we could reschedule and if we wanted to deal with a renovation being done at the same time so you're not having a splitting headache for the whole day ! I had an EXCELLENT experience here with Raquel at the Clinique counter! And it was a Saturday! Due to lots of eye infections, I've had to switch my makeup and I needed some help. I'm a little challenged in the makeup area, so I knew I had to get help. I chose Ulta because I heard that the Clinique reps there were not paid on commission (true!), so I knew they wouldn't be pushy. Raquel greeted me right away, listened to what I wanted and showed me a few things. She applied eye makeup and when I told her that $25 seemed expensive for a small brush, she showed me other options. She suggested that I take pictures of products I liked but decided not to buy right them, so I would know for the future. And most importantly, she did not suggest stuff that wasn't for me (deep red lipstick, etc.) The checkout experience was VERY SLOW as other reviewers have mentioned. They did get backup after the line got kind of long, so that was good. I was glad I went in the store and that is not something I would normally have done since I could have bought my stash online. read more

My latest experience at this Ulta yesterday left me highly dissatisfied with their customer service. I usually go to Sephora where I'm always approached for assistance. I ended up going at this location because it is near my house where I wanted some new products to add to my collection. I was at this Ulta location in Wheaton for about 40 minutes where I aimlessly tried out some product without any help or suggestion. It was disheartening because I'm a mother of a young toddler who could really use some quick help to get me in and out of the shop but that was not the case. On top of that the beauty/waxing service center was filthy. The Asian sales associate at the Clinique section saw me several times but did not offer any assistance, nor did she say hi. At first I thought she was busy but as soon as a Caucasian customer was around, Ishe wasted no time assisting her. Even though I ended up spending a decent amount for the three products I picked out, I did not feel satisfied leaving with my purchase. First time trying the salon, overall the experience was ok. Initial first impression wasn't great, I scheduled an appointment and I literally just sat there for 20 minutes. I wasn't sure who my stylist was or how long I needed to wait. She didn't come out to greet me or say she was in the middle of a cut and would be done soon. Caiden (Kaiden?) was working in prestige and patiently helped me find a match for a concealer--trying products from three different brands because we couldn't find my shade. My long running feud with this particular Ulta is officially over. 60% of the reason the feud came to a screeching halt is because Sephora and I temporarily broke up. But the other 40% is just because they've stepped up their customer service in a major way. Example: I found myself there on Tuesday searching for a cleansing system. A very nice young man helped me find exactly what I wanted, and several nice ladies asked if I needed help as well. This should be standard, I know. Every Ulta store is the same- snotty sales people that act like it's a huge deal to assist you. Most of the time when I come to these stores, it's just to pick up my Bare Minerals powder, or maybe some mascara or eyeshadow. I never plan on being in the store for more than five minutes. Their selection is great, but every time I browse (because I've never really looked around the entire store), I always have an employee stalking me, as if to make sure I'm not shoplifting. Seriously - every. single. time. Which is why I've never really browsed the entire store. I feel like a damn deer being hunted. If I had a way to get my Bare Minerals without setting foot in this store, I would. I'm not a fan of shopping for my basics while being judged and stalked. read more

Let me start off my saying that this location has a great selection. This is a huge plus if you like to browse around and/or you already know what you are looking for. The service on this visit left quite a bit to be desired. The salon is where they truly miss the mark for me. I had mentioned that all over color, a cut and low lights would break the bank, but the stylist assured me it would be fine. It was not fine. 180 dollars later I left, though impressed with the nice coloring and style. The most unfortunate bit is that my hair was entirely over processed. Chunks of it fall out when I blow dry it to style. Now I try to deep condition it to make up for my poor damaged hair. Pretty much a nightmare. Maybe my expectations are too high. I stopped in this Ulta location since I was running some errands before meeting a friend. I only needed two things: my Benefit concealer and a can of Tresemme hairspray. Yes, I said NEED. If I ever run out of concealer and hairspray on the same day, I will refuse to leave the house until the problem has been remedied. Luckily, that hasn't happened yet. My shopping trip was successful since both items were in stock. This is one Ulta location that does a pretty nice job of keeping up with their inventory. My shopping trip was extra successful as I decided to also pick up an Urban Decay eye shadow palette that I didn't really need. They do too good of a job with their displays strategically placed with the merchandise practically begging me, "touch me! put me on your face!" The employees here are nice and knowledgeable about their sales and coupons. Nobody was on my heels while I shopped, but I did feel that the employees were accessible if I had needed help. I don't understand the bad reviews on this Ulta. There is an Ulta near my apt in the city (Lakeview) and it's horrible. This place is neatly organized and when I asked for a certain product, one of the workers actually picked it up and handed it to me. I have been a regular customer here for the past couple years and every time I come here I always have a great experience. Angie usually does my hair and she is great at what she does. She takes her time and makes my hair the way I want it to be. There was a little miscommunication when I made my last appointment, and when I came in Amanda was there and she still took care of me which was super nice of her. The prices are kind of high but it's totally worth it because the quality is outstanding. The hair dyes last awhile, and when you want your hair to be styled a certain way and you bring a picture of the hairstyle you want they can get it almost exact. I've been in this location a few times lately, and I'm not sure what it is...no matter what time of the day it is, there is always a line of about 3 people, or more!!! ALWAYS a line!!! Yesterday I was looking for two specific things, I thought for sure I'd stumble upon them but also found it amazing that the girls putting stock away didn't ask any customers if they needed help... that is their job too, not to put stock away, not to mention their roller carts were taking up all kinds of space where people were doing after-work shopping. I understand the load situation is a little nuts (If only these people reviewing things about stock knew the real story about stock shipment and ulta!) as I used to be one of those people, but get it together people... and the salon area wasn't busy, but the salon staff were chatting it up so loud, I had to do a double take to confirm if they were customers or STAFF acting like that!!! She was efficient and polite. $20 for brows is a bit much and I hate the product upsell, but she did a good job. I got my hair cut and styled. I showed the stylist 2 pictures (of myself) of how I wanted my hair. Although the cut did the job, she did not style it as I had shown. It's not a huge deal, but when you're paying AND you've shown a picture, you'd like it to get done. The gal was super nice and picked up on the cue that I didn't feel like chatting. The price was a little high ($41). All in all, I'd likely go there again for the salon, but a different stylist and I'd go elsewhere for a brow wax that can offer a better price. read more

The last year my skin was crazy broken out, and I suffer from once monthly hormonal acne, but since coming to her I see such a difference. Plus, she genuinely cares about you as a person. If I'm running late, she gives me the quickest directions. If I'm sad, she gives me life advice. I brought up a face mask that was in the bottle and asked the cashier to tell me the price it rang up 4.02 even though the price where the bottle was said 1.03. My mom goes do you want the cashier to go look maybe it was in the wrong spot. The cashier didn't even bat an eye. She didn't even go over there too look for me.
