Stopped here to get some stocking stuffers for a few of my girlfriends for our annual holiday lunching. They have so many options - travel size everything - small, purse size magnifying cards (at our age we need them for those barely lit restaurants,) hair masks, facial masks, lip gloss, small nail files, tiny hair brushes, etc. These items are in the impulse aisle as you approach the check out. They always greet you as you enter and if you need help they will walk you to the right aisle. Plenty of parking. I came here to get a signature haircut with the stylist Wendy and my experience with her was phenomenal! I happened to be on vacation when I stopped by but I was in desperate need of a haircut and Wendy made sure all of my needs were met. She frequently checked in with me to make sure I liked the length and look of my hair, which is something I look for in a stylist. She was also extremely gentle with my hair when it was washed, I typically get a little nervous when stylists wash my hair because of how heavy handed they can be but Wendy is very careful and gentle! I'm torn between rating my experience between 1 star and 2 stars. Mostly because I am happy with the outcome of my experience, however, I had to go home and fix it and finish the job myself. (Spoiler Alert - I am a former hairstylist, so it's not a big deal for me.. But if I was a random who never had the knowledge how to, access to professional products and skill set I would be LIVID.) I will spare you the details with the consultation which was excellent, my stylist was thorough and we discussed the different options we had available. I knew I could do either of these options myself. (After doing your own hair, I just wanted to feel pampered). However after talking to her I realized one option she was not comfortable with so we went with the fail safe option. Totally fine, I LOVED the color outcome we got. It is a beautiful RV, its stunning and I got so many compliments already. The haircut was perfect as well. She didn't take much length off and took off just enough on my layers to help when I use my Dry Bar Double Shot to give me a good blowout. It was amazing start to finish. I even had DoorDash bring us some coffee and lunch and had an amazing experience through the entire session. Now, lets get into why I'm peeved. Immediately after leaving the salon I visited a friend (also a previous hairstylist) and as she was admiring the color and cut, she pointed out a missed streak. You can see it in the picture of my After photo. I was a bit bummed, because I paid $300 for this. However, in the end, I was like no big deal, I can grab color at the Beauty Supply store (I knew what color line and formula she used) and fix it myself. It's totally fine I didn't mind doing that. However, after having second thoughts I decided I'd just call and let her know she missed a spot (not to get her in trouble or be a Karen about it), but because in my years behind the chair - I had my mistakes pointed out to me. It's a learning experience to grow and help stylist become better. It's just so noticeable that I wanted her to know that she shouldn't have let me leave the salon just to find it myself. So I call the salon, and obviously I get the stylist who did my hair on the phone. Immediately she gets defensive and tells me "I don't know how I could have missed a spot, like I would have seen that". I advised I had a picture and was more than happy to show her. Despite her saying she believed me, and knew I wasn't lying, she continued to state that she was sure she would noticed she missed a spot. She offered to fix it for me. But at this point I don't want her any where near my hair because of her becoming defensive towards me. She made me feel bad for even saying anything, when it was her error. At this point, it's principal for me that she realizes it wasn't necessary to get defensive and make me feel bad for letting her know she make a mistake. As a professional courtesy I will not name her in my review. If someone from Ulta Management wishes to reach out to me and get more background info, I would be happy to let them know. My goal of this review is not to bash her online, it's to merely educate her that human error is always a possibility, but the one thing is to not take it out on the customer. Woman up, own your mistake, and volunteer to fix it. Learn from the experience and do better next time. I paid $300 for my hair (not including tip), I deserve to be treated fairly. read more

I was asked for my phone number at check out. I declined to do this, even though I know there is some loyalty account involved. The young cashier was then approached by a "manager" who said to my "Oh, don't you like to save money?" I said that I prefer not to have my phone number in their system, to which she stated to the younger cashier "THAT'S OK...SHE DOESN'T WANT TO SAVE ANY MONEY TODAY." I found this extremely rude and disrespectful. I had clearly stated why I preferred not to give them my phone number, and her response was to try to shame me for it. I went into Ulta to buy some shampoo and saw that they had a salon, I was in the need of a new hairstylist as mine had just moved away and I had had her for about six years. I met Maria ( master stylist) and from the moment I met her she was very sweet and very kind and very interested in what I had to say. So I made an appointment with her, but was still very nervous about meeting with a new person as anyone would be when they're changing stylist. I came to yelp and read her reviews and she had quite a few good reviews but she also had some not good reviews. I took the bad ones with a grain of salt , as sometimes the really really bad reviews have more to do with the person writing the review ,so I gave Maria a try and I'm so happy I did. She is a wonderful young lady working in a very different world than we were living in a few years ago, she did all the correct protocols everything was sanitized and clean she asked me what I wanted. She really listen to what I had to say, I asked her opinion as I really just wanted to cut my hair short because it was very very long and very heavy and I have recently completely transition to all gray after two years of not dying my hair. Maria knew this was a big deal since I was looking for a new stylist and also she would be cutting out the last part of the dye in my hair I believe she took off 6 to 8 inches I'm not sure exactly, we talked about different treatments what would work best for my hair what I was hoping for, we decided and she did a keratin relax on me and cut. I could not of been more happy. I waited until I wash my hair and did it myself before I left this review, because I wanted to make sure that the keratin relaxation treatment would really work and I would be able to do my own hair almost as good as Maria did it. I am happy to say that the end result was exactly what Maria told me it would be ,it was a bit pricey but I got about 35% off my total services, 15% off for a new customer and another 20% off because I opened an ultra card. I really feel like everyone at the store was super helpful. I even did my eyebrows with Irena and Carrie they both help me very much to pick up the correct products and I even got the tint for my eyebrows. I'm a very happy person that I found Ulta in Washington Square. I have seen a lot of reviews that are not very good , I would tell you to go onto that store and to look for yourself and determine what you think , they are just a great team trying to help in a very different world. I think they're succeeding , each and everyone of them that are working there , they're very knowledgeable they're very welcoming and their customer service to me was spot on. If I could give a negative star review I would!!!! MARIA WRIGHT COMPLETELY RUINED MY HAIR!!! I went in and asked for a nice bright and pretty blonde. The first time I saw her she said the lady before me was scared of the bleach and toner and that's why I kept getting an orange color. Well, I don't have a brassy color anymore but the breakage of my hair two weeks after the appointment scares me. My hair is now uneven and frizzy and dead looking because she demolished my hair. I by no means even got close to what I asked for. I have been having blonde put into my hair for years and have never had an experience like this one. She put in bleach and I sat for nearly two hours. She checked me ONCE!!! When she rinse my hair she was so upset at the thought of the salon closing due to COVID-19 that I had to ask her to stop because she was hurting me. I went home with a sore scalp and not much bothers my scalp. Now two weeks later, I am stuck with hair that is completely ruined and the breakage is so bad my hair feels rough and looks uneven. I have added hydration masks, deep conditioning masks and nothing is helping because she did such a terrible job. I called the same day when I got home and was told that only the salon manager could call me to take my complaint, no call! I'll NEVER GO BACK TO ULTA BEAUTY FOR ANY BEAUTY SERVICE AGAIN. I've been a faithful Ulta customer for years and I have never left a salon feeling so terrible about myself. You get your hair done to feel pretty and more often in not I am in tears because my hair looks so bad and feels even worse. Stay away from Ulta Beauty for any salon services. I have had not one, but two terrible salon experiences at this location - and both were just bang trims! I feel like they do not train their stylists to ask questions or communicate with you before making decisions. Word of warning: if you make an appointment online with one of their experienced stylists, they might stick you with the newer employee anyway. Which could be just fine, but if you have a preference they should honor it. The last time I went in, mid-October, the stylist complained the entire time about 1) wanting to GTFO as soon as possible and 2) their former manager from another job being there and how much they absolutely hated them - loud enough for that poor person (a customer) to hear. I left Ulta with crooked bangs and awkward pieces on the sides completely uncut, but feeling far too uncomfortable to ask them to fix it. I didn't intend to write this review, but I just had my hair fixed at a great salon in Tigard and the difference is night and day. I am giving two stars because I have had one good experience at Ulta's salon and the rest of the store's employees are usually great. read more

I have only been to Ulta a couple times normally I shop at Sephora but I got a $500 gift card for Ulta so I decided to stop by and see what I could find. the store was clean and organized not very plentiful but that's understandable being a few days after Christmas. Everyone there was very helpful and I'm really writing this review to hopefully bring a little awareness to some people's mental health issues. I spent about two hours filling up my basket and emptying it out and filling it up and empltying it out. I have had a shopping issue for many years and it was the way I was taught by my therapist to fill the need to buy everything without the consequence of blowing money on things I don't need. Usually I go pretty unnoticed but today a sales associate or at least one in particular was definitely doing her job. She offered to help me a few times and I declined and the last time she offered to help me she asked me where everything went that was in my basket and I told her I have a hard time spending money and I didn't wanna deal with hearing about it from my husband and she laughed at that and told me I deserved a splurge and she might be right but I have very specific rules to how I shop right now. That comment however made me feel very embarrassed due to my issue and it was time for me to go. Anyways I ended up buying a couple things and then went to use the bathroom on my way out and when I was exiting the store the sales associate who I'm assuming is the manager by her professionalism asked me "excuse me do you happen to have the hair products from the boxes you left in the bathroom" I really was confused by the question completely and asked her what boxes and she said "you know the boxes you left in the bathroom" at that point it started to dawn on me of what she was really asking me. I asked her what boxes again and she told me I knew what boxes and I asked her to see the boxes that she's referring to because I can't think of any hair product that comes in a box. She then told me she had all my information and I told her OK and left. Once I got in my car and started processing everything I realized what she was really asking me and I would've been more than happy to stop and let her go through everything I have because clearly she had a suspicion and being a police officers wife I have no problem honoring someone doing their job. But I just want everyone to understand that just because people pick things up and then put them back or try things on and then decide against them does not mean they're up to no good, sometimes It just means they are indecisive or are dealing with other things. I would like to say the manager is doing a great job and she is doing her job well. Unfortunately in this situation she was completely wrong and really, to be honest, very confusing. I'm sorry if anyone wasted their time thinking that I was doing something wrong but this is just my process. I hope in the future they will only approach someone if they truly "find boxes" in the bathroom and don't try to b.s. a customer based on assumptions. Again the sales associate was just doing her job and I do not hold her at fault for it I actually respect it. But I think one of a lot of peoples biggest mistakes is jumping to conclusions because they don't understand what's going on. My husband said "it could be how your were dressed" but I'm praying that's not the situation because judging someone based on their clothing is not ok. And just because I was in jeans that only cost around $80 , a polo shirt and a Skii jacket and hiking boots doesn't mean I'm broke, it means I just got off work! read more

I've gone to Irina for brows ever since ever. I swear by her technique and skill. She has an eye for brows and really know what she's doing down to the nitty gritty. She's also very particular when trimming or plucking brows! I'm super picky and she always does such a job well done. I have full brows, but when trimmed the wrong way they can look bare in some areas. She's learned the way my hair grows and understands how to work around it when I have my stubborn brow days. While perusing the store yesterday I overheard a conversation on the phone between an associate and who I assumed was her significant other or friend that did something wrong by the way she was talking. A few moments pass by and I realize she's talking to a customer on the other end. I was shocked at how blatantly condescending she was being! She was speaking with so much attitude and talking down on her. I didn't even have to strain to listen in because of how loud she was. After the call ended, she complained about the customer so loud I could hear it while shopping an aisle over. I was walking on egg shells after that, afraid of how they'd treat me if I did anything wrong which is definitely not how you should feel in a store just minding your own business. I feel bad for whoever was on the other line. The store was also very disorganized. There were a number of times I grabbed a different item because it was in the wrong spot. So I had to comb through the shelves just to find the displayed product, which I've never really had to do at a store before. I used to work retail so I'm not mad but it was *very* annoying. I was feeling frumpy and went in to get a clean up cut on my bangs that had originally been cut at a Supercuts and I didn't think they looked right. The person who cut them said it wouldn't be an issue. She asked if I wanted my hair cut too. I told her I was growing it out to donate and she could clean it up. So my bangs have layers ON THE OUTSIDE. Like, when you look at me, you see the lines across the outside of my bangs, not underneath. It's totally strange and a complete pain in the ass to get to look normal and not like I'm trying to audition for "Flock of Seagulls". Then when I hop out of the chair at the end to look at my hair, she's cut off nearly 4 inches! I get that there might have been some split ends, but never in my life have I had that much cut off for a clean up. I don't remember the name of the stylist but I came in to get my hair washed and deep conditioned because I was in the process of selling my house and wanted to treat myself to something. This was six months ago and occasionally still think about it. The stylist was cruel. She shot down everything I said and insulted me on every level. I was kind to her the entire time. Anything I talked about, she would say something mean. Even another stylist on break noticed the foul mood she was in and was trying to counteract her negativity. To add insult to injury, she body shamed me and told me that my hair was falling out. I gave her a generous tip and all of a sudden, she was nice to me. It was like a switch went off and she was a different person. I do not cry often but I went back into my car and cried. Wow. Bummed to hear about the other reviewers bad experience. I hate to be haggled over using coupons especially when I make an effort to bring them into the store. Maybe next time they will be better? This store is just outside the Washington Square Mall which has a very busy Sephora inside. I have never been to that Sephora when there was not a line. So, I was pretty pumped to see advertising about the new Ulta opening up. I especially love that they have a salon and lots of hair goodies. Also, a lot of brands you would see in both Sephora and the drug store. One stop shopping here! The store had a lot of employees and all of them seemed to have a lot of makeup experience or so it appeared by their glamorous makeup styles. I enjoyed seeing all the new trends on fresh faces. I talked to several employees and never met a nasty it unhelpful one. I went their looking for a foundation and could not make a decision on one but I did find new eyeliner, eyeshadow, hair iron and shampoo and conditioner. Actually, I found so much stuff I liked that I spent more then I planned buy it was a pure joy trying all the new stuff. My son came with me and he showed me the hair dryer testing area. It's very cool! They have something like twenty brands that are actually plugged in and you can try them. I bought an expensive hair dryer a few months ago from Sephora and I really could have used this kind of testing area to help with my decision! So, if you decide to get a new hair dryer and can't makeup your mind maybe drop by with wet hair! Lol. Lastly, I love that always have some great beauty items on sale each week. BEWARE! I've had mixed experiences at this salon. However after this I don't think I'll be going back. The first time I went I went in for a color correction and I saw Selena who did a fantastic job. I had to get a correction done after trying to bleach my roots and failing. After I had to go get my DIY fail fixed professionally I thought twice about doing it myself the next time and decided to go back to get my roots bleached. I tend to color my hair vibrant colors so the plan was for my roots to get bleached and for me to dye it pink after going home. During my appointment it seemed that my stylist Morgan wasn't applying the lightner far enough to get the bottom of my roots. I figured who was I to judge they're the professionals right? Unfortunately my worst fears were confirmed all too late after I had already applied the pink to my hair at home voiding any hope of getting things fixed. My hair is patchy and there is a band of brown where my roots meet my ends and it's clear in spots lighter never touched my hair. My hair looks about the same as it did when it first needed a color correction from me bleaching it myself. I understand why things couldn't be fixed after I applied the color however what I can not under is how I was ever allowed to leave the salon with my roots the way they are to begin with. Perhaps I should have noticed but still I can't see how it even happened to begin with let alone wasn't caught by professionals or fixed before I ever left. This is not what I would expect from a professional root touch up. Please save yourself the tears it's not worth it and stay away. read more

It is a little further away from me but they seem to carry more stuff than the one in Beaverton. People that work here are always friendly and mostly knowledgeable about the products they carry. Always clean, and organized, although I wonder why the people that work here congregate in the big brand area, (NARS, benefit, urban decay) instead of spread out to better help people. (No one is assigned in the Ulta Beauty section or hair products and accessories, or face masks, nyx, makeup revolution. Prices are reasonable and of course, quality depends on the product you are purchasing. Poor attitudes and be snobs My first visit to this location over 6 months ago truly was prob the Perk of all my ulta visits. I wanted to try the Loreal Infallible foundations. They didn't have samples.. which were fine. There was actually an employee for the first time ever Willing to help. (Truly wish I got her name) she was able to match me Perfectly. I went home and got both the Glow and Matte foundations and they were Perfect. That same visit on the Benefit area, I was thinking of getting a brow pencil. A guy with silverish- blonde hair/ beautiful eyebrows helped me. I chose to go with Anastasia pomade but he was very nice. Besides these two examples of helpful/ great customer service individuals. I've been to 4 other locations and every single one of them.. just rude an unwillingness to help workers. I've always enjoyed the range of makeup and hair products you can find at Ulta locations. They're not too high end, like Sephora for example where everything is soo expensive. (Not to knock Sephora or anything, I wish I could afford them!) You can also find drug store brands, too. I came to this store to find some gifts, and found a little something for everyone and did not kill my budget. I even found those headbands that keep the hair our of your face while you apply/remove makeup and get ready for bed/the day for myself, which was about 3x the price on Amazon. An awesome find.
